Remote wakeup across WAN

OK, I forgot the trick here. Reinstalled ZfD 7 suite and
now I have lost remote wakeup across my WAN links. I know
there is a trick here, but I can't remember what it is. Can
you help?
Thanks a bunch, Chris.

Hey Chris, I know that we have certain ports blocked on our router that
prevent WOL across the WAN. I have to use a tool by SolarWinds called
"WakeOnLan". Here is a link to their free download.
http://www.solarwinds.com/downloads/ The only drawback is you have to know
the mac and ip of the target machine. Plus you have to register on their
site to download. Hope this helps,
Tommy

  • ZCM 11.2 cannot remote control across WAN

ZCM 11.2 appliance (sole Primary). There is a satellite located across the WAN at my other office. It is still at 10.3. Just completed upgrading from ZCM 10.3 appliance to 11.2 appliance. I can remote control any PC on my LAN. But if I attempt to remote a device across the WAN, I get an error: "Rights Authentication failed. The managed device was unable to contact the ZENworks server." I tried this too many times with my satellite and now it gives me this error: "The managed device is blocked from accepting Remote Management requests since the number of consecutive unsuccessful attempts exceeded the configured limit." The only cause I have seen listed for this is time not in sync. But I believe I have everything in sync. Any suggestions for how to fix this?

PS. nntp access to the forums appears to be down. I had to use the web interface to post this.

  • FCoE VLAN with OTV or FCIP across WAN.

    Hello All,
I am wondering how would we extend a FCoE VLAN/VSAN to remote DC.
Can we use the extended VLAN from OTV and use it for FCoE or FCIP to span the SAN using N5K?
I appreciate if someone let me know what are the options to extend the VSAN/SAN across WAN.

Sorry just to elaborate on the above question. If I already have OTV on nexus 7k that is used to link between 2 remote sites, can we make use of this existing link to support FCoE? Traditionally we used FCIP on MDS, to link between remote sites to extend our VSAN traffics. So can we use FCoE to run between sites connected by OTV. Thanks.

netdestroy, that's a great question. I apologize that currently, we don't support any applications that allow this capability.

  • Mac Pro wakes up from sleep, 'wake reason UHC6' / remote wakeup from some d

Out of nowhere, my new Mac Pro started suddenly waking up from sleep. It was fine initially, but started a few days ago seemingly without reason.
    The console log states:
4/15/09 8:40:17 PM kernel USB (UHCI):Port 1 on bus 0x5a has remote wakeup from some device
    4/16/09 12:31:15 AM kernel Wake reason = UHC6
4/16/09 12:31:15 AM kernel System Wake
When checking system, and USB, I find:
    USB Bus:
Host Controller Location: Built In USB
    Host Controller Driver: AppleUSBUHCI
    PCI Device ID: 0x3a39
    PCI Revision ID: 0x0000
    PCI Vendor ID: 0x8086
    Bus Number: 0x5a
    BCM2045B2:

Now, from what I can see, the wake event comes from the Bluetooth - but I only have one BT device paired (they Apple wireless keyboard), and I have 'allows BT devices to wake up' DISABLED.
Does anyone have any suggestions or idea what could be causing the wake-ups? This seems to be happening every few hours, but at no specific times...
    Thanks,
    Dan

    Depends.
As you can see, the wake event seems to specifically point to the ONE USB bus that the BT is on - but nothing else. All other USB busses have a different hex address....
Having said that, I have - on the other bus - an RF logitech mouse (I disconnected that - no difference. And, when waking it says 'wake even on the xxx' bus - not the one that 'seems' to wake the system).
Then, a UPS, and finally an Apple 30inch CinemaDisplay.
The strange this is that is was fine the first 2 weeks I had the system. Then, one weekend being gone, I turned it off (but that wasn't the first time) and then on. Since then, the wake-up issue on that 'remote device causing event' happened - though of course I can't be sure they are really connected....
Do you think another device could cause the wake-up - even though the console would wound to BT?
For the record, I have no BT issues (adapter turning of or otherwise) that I am aware of.
Thanks for the help / suggestions!

  • Windows server 2003 Remote desktop over WAN problem.

Ok so problem is there is a 2003 windows server in my office. Any computer phone etc. can connect to it via Remote desktop if they are in the LAN network. I have port forwarded 3389 , disabled firewalls , there is no antivirus software on the server.
BUT I cannon log in over WAN. Heres the problem.
I type in the WAN ip I connect with credentials.
    This is what i get:
    Connecting...
    Negotiating credentials...
Then it just suddenly force closes.
Also tried from a Windows 8 PC , when trying to connect it INSTANTLY throws me an error saying:
This computer cant connect to the remote computer. If the problem continues contact etc..
No matter where i try , a pc , a laptop , a phone , a tablet it just force closes. I can see that the devices are able to see the server and are trying to connect , but the connection just force closes for no reason and no error is shown. Also I dont see
anything in the event viewer on the server. The credentials are correct also. And the port is forwarded correctly.
    Where could the problem be?

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
As you have commented that you have forwarded port correctly at windows end, but still suggest you to check whether you have port forwarded on Router which you are using for WAN connections.
Can your local system can make successful ping to the remote server from WAN connections?
For testing you can telnet <router ip> 3389 and if you get blank screen then it confirm that port has been forwarded.
It might happens that there is port assignment conflict taken place, so check with “netstat –a –o” and see port 3389 is not being used by other application, if that is the case then change the port.
You can refer following article for more troubleshooting steps (Point 2)

  • Remote Wakeup down

Have a problem with Remote Wakeup virtually never working for us although it has intermittently in the past. Have the Wake On Lan service running successfully at the ZEN server and configured in virtually all PC's BIOS' to allow it.
    What's is/are the most likely culprit(s)?

The first thing I would do is verify the Packet is being generated on
the server with the proper info.
A LAN Trace and examination of the logs can confirm this.
    See:
    http://www.novell.com/support/viewCo...rnalId=7004716
One you know this is working, you can look at your routers/switches to
see why its not being passed.

  • Native PULL across WAN

Does anyone know if the latest version of Coherence provides a native PULL mechanism from across a WAN replication scheme?

    To clarify the question
We know about Coherence “Push Replication Pattern”, which can be used to replicate data between Grids over WAN, and which was introduced about 4 years ago.
    Since that time,
    1)     if there are other mechanisms were introduced by Oracle/Coherence which can be used to replicate data across WAN?
    2)     and, in particular, if Coherence has its own kind of “PULL replication

  • VLANS across WANS

I am working on a project for CCNA class. I want to maintain VLAN identities across multiple WAN sites...i.e. My central Core will be in LA, remote offices at Dallas and St Louis. If I define VLANs 10, 20,30, and 40 at LA for 4 departments, with network 10.0.10.0/22, 10.0.20.0/22 etc..I have considered using EoMPLS to maintain the VLAN structure and the ability to not have to change or reassign different  network address at the remote sites. In essence, I wish to have the same subnets at all sites for all VLANS and implement NMC from the LA office. I want to have VLAN 10, with 10.0.10.0/22 at all 3 sites. Is this possible and maintainable from a management standpoint using EoMPLS. What am I missing here? Other posts I have researched state that this is not possible and not recommended. The objective is to maintain VLANs across all 3 sites.
If not, then how do we maintain VLAN identities and membership across all 3 sites with different Subnets? I am just looking for ideas, not solutions. Just some guidance, since I am a student.

I haven't personally used EoMPLS, but it seems a viable option.  The other L2 extension technologies to consider are:
    VPLS
    OTV (ASR1k or CSR1k)
L2TPv3 (can use regular IOS routers)
Typically you'd only consider extending L2 VLANs across a WAN for DCI (data center interconnect) and not branch to branch.
L2TPv3 is a neat feature that can be done cheaply using 800-series routers.  It does transmit all L2 traffic so it's possible to have spanning tree loops over the WAN (fun in the lab, but not in production).

  • WOL across WAN

    Hello all,
I am trying to configure WOL to work across our WAN but it does not appear to be working.
Our WAN is connected via Cisco routers that connect our buildings via fiber, so no outside connectivity on these links. There are 2 ethernet cards in each router, one connected to the local LAN and the other connecting to our ISPs switch to connect our fiber links.
I have configured the source of the WOL packets router's interface connected to the internal LAN with the IP helper broadcast addresses for the networks it will wake up. I have also configured the router for IP forward-protocol UDP 7 and 9.
On the remote site router, I have configured just the IP directed-broadcast for the router interface connected to the local LAN.
It still will not wake up the remote devices.
Once I get this setup and working, I will lock down the remote wake up to our ZCM server with an access list but for now, I just need to get it working.
Here are the particulars for the devices we are using:
ZCM 10.3 - latest patch levels
    Cisco 2821 routers
    Steve D.
    I have also configured

Actually, it is all working now.
    Please disregard.

  • Acrobat 8 & Acrobat Reader 8 slow to open PDFs across WAN

I'm currently having a really strange problem with the users in one of my offices when they attempt to open PDFs with either Acrobat Pro 8.1.2 or Acrobat Reader 8.1.2. These users are connecting across a WAN via a point-to-point T1 to the main location to open these PDFs. Some are nearly 8MB and yet Acrobat Reader 8 launches and displays them in about five seconds. Literally. Yet other files, around 2.5-3MB, take about a minute to a minute and a half to open. I know the larger PDFs were created with software not from Adobe, but instead were created using this PDF printer driver made by Iteksoft. It seems the Iteksoft app creates them in such a way that AcroRead can launch and then begin displaying the file even though I know there's no way an 8MB file has copied across the WAN in just a few seconds. However, the other PDFs apparently don't have that "feature" and so the entire file must be copied before AcroRead launches. Interestingly enough, when the users had AcroRead 7 or Acrobat Pro 6 all files opened "quickly" so something has changed in Acrobat/Acrobat Pro 8 in how the app opens PDFs.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
    Joe

Ok, so they are being opened directly in Acrobat/Reader.
In this case, Acrobat (or Reader) doesn't need to read the whole file
in the general case. A PDF file contains a large number of objects
describing what is on the pages, and the other aspects of the file.
There is an index to these objects.
So Acrobat starts by reading the index, then reads what it needs.
In some cases it may have to read next to nothing, to show the first
page of a document of many pages. In other cases it will have to read
all of the file, because (perhaps) it has one page and so everything
needed has to be read to show you that page.
The amount of data read has very little relation to the file size
(except that it should be no more than the file size). You have to
look at how the file is made up (e.g. page count? What is on pages?)
    to go further.

  • 0x80070035 Across WAN between Windows 2012/8 Computers

    Head scratcher on this one. Network Shares/Servers running Windows 2012 are unaccessible across the WAN but only When it is a Windows 2012 or 8 client. Here is a basic view of what is happening;
If User in NoCal tried to access information from a Windows 8.1 machine to any share on a Windows 2012 R2 Server located in SoCal, you get
"Windows cannot access \\SoCal2012" and the error is
0x80070035. If the same user tries to get information from a SoCal Windows 2008 R2 server, success. If that same NoCal user tries from a Windows 7 computer, to either a 2012 or 2008 server in the SoCal office, Success.
Same issue going from SoCal to NoCal with same outcomes using Windows 8 or 7 and accessing Windows 2008 or 2012 servers located in NoCal. This is also true when logged into a Windows 2012 Server and trying to access a Windows 2012 server across the WAN.
Locally there is no issue. Windows 8 or 7 can access the local servers with no issues.
Some of the things I've looked at was the NetBIOS over TCP/IP, Firewall settings for Domain, Private and Public, RequireSecuritySignature on SMB. Looked into Audit Policy for removable storage and Object access. Now I am posting here. It seemed to be working
for a minute lastnight before I left work, and the issue is back this morning.
Any help solving this riddle would be appreciated.

    Hi,
Above all I would like to know if it is a DNS resolution related issue.
As you are accessing server via NetBIOS name, please make sure that DNS suffix is displayed correctly in Advanced TCP/IP settings.
Also you can try an nslookup, or accessing the server with FQDN (\\server.domain.com) to see the result.
SMB negotiation could also cause issue. If this is the case you will need to capture a package with Network Monitor to get the connection process. Find the package with error and let us know the exact information.
    Detailed information could be found:
Microsoft SMB Protocol Packet Exchange Scenario
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa365236(v=vs.85).aspx
And this is the article for using Network Monitor to capture network traffic. You can upload your package to an online storage such as OneDrive - Please note the package could be accessed by anyone so it is fine if you do not willing to share it online.

  • Gatekeeper Cluster across WAN

    Hi,
Is it possible to configure two gatekeepers as elements of a cluster if they are on two sides of a WAN link. If so what are the prerequisites or restrictions?
    Regards
    Sebastian

you could put a good load of data on the wire across the wan, see if you can get 3-4mb (or whatever your maximum is) and then test your pings.
use the results added to the number of phones (BHCA) and see what the numbers 'should' look like.
be sure to use the bandwidth calculator if you haven't already. try for many or all different codecs.
see the bandwidth calculator at the following link: (requires cco account)
