We have a web application that is a .NET site with a SQL backend that is hosted as a website on one of our servers for a client. Is it possible to host something like this with Azure RemoteApp?

              We are developing a web application in team.
              We develop on Windows, but the web application runs under unix/linux.
              The unix machine has an Admin server and a Managed server (same machine).
              The web application we are developing is already deployed to the target server
              and (of course) we have a directory on the Admin Server where all the components
              are stored. The web application is in exploded format (no war - no hidden peace
              message here :) ).
              We'd like to run - locally on our windows machine - the command line "java ...
              weblogic.deploy ..." to update the Web Application as a result of a build script.
              We found that the "source" paramenter confuses us: shall we give the "remote"
              path (i.e. /var/wlhome/applications/<app name>") as given to WL Admin when we
              CONFIGURED a new web application from the console or should we give a LOCAL direcotry
              name? (i.e. D:\DEVEL\<app name>)
              Giving a remote (i.e. on the unix machine) path we have the following:
              D:\DEVEL\groc>java -classpath lib/weblogic.jar weblogic.deploy -host <managed
              host machine> -port <managed host port> update <password> <appname> /var/wlhome/applications/groc
              Bad URL or file name: /var/wlhome/applications/groc
              Giving a local (i.e. on the windows machine) path:

              Weblogic says: "Done updating groc with ./config/svildomain/.wlstaging/groc
              But when reloading the web application, changes (done to the LOCAL files) are
              not reflected in the output.
              Am I missing something? (Should the local weblogic.jar be the same service pack
              level as the ManagedServer?)

    In addition, please make sure that the port 443 is not blocked by the firewall.
    Web Application Proxy requires internal name resolution to resolve the names of backend servers, and AD FS servers. When publishing web applications via Web Application Proxy, every web application you publish requires an external URL. For clients to reach
    these web applications, a public DNS server must be able to resolve each external URL that you configure. Note that the external URL must resolve to the same IP address as the Web Application Proxy server, or the external IP address of a firewall or load-balancer
    placed in front of the Web Application Proxy server.

    I want to develop a web application which has "Browse Server" button to browse remote server. After selecting files and folders from remote server, need to read all files and folders from server and store that information in Database. Please provide some ideas and help regarding this.
    I think that i need to develop a custom component based on jfilechooser to connect to server and show the selection dialog like windows file upload.
    I don't no how to list server files and show as browse dialog to select and read those files.

    I am trying to access a WebService on Server A from a Flex application running on Server B. I assume that server A should have a crossdomain.xml file; however, I cannot seem to get it working. Could someone please tell me where the crossdomain.xml file should be placed and what the file should contain so that I do not get the following error from WLS:

    I don't really know my Flash/Flex all that well, but a shot in the dark...I think the crossdomain.xml needs to be at the server root, so you'll need to specify the root context, which can be done in weblogic.xml, for a web application containing crossdomain.xml. To see if it works, use a browser to pull back the file:
    http://serverA/crossdomain.xml

  • Where to put jndi.properties in Web application to lookup remote EJB?

    I want to use EJB deployed in an OC4J from web application deployed in another OC4J.
    I've try to put jndi.properties file into WEB-INF/classes; package it into a jarfile and put into WEB-INF/lib, ... In all case, it doesn't work.
    If I hard-coding the env properties as following, it works.
    env.put( Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY, "oracle.j2ee.rmi.RMIInitialContextFactory" );
    env.put( Context.SECURITY_PRINCIPAL, "oc4jadmin" );
    env.put( Context.SECURITY_CREDENTIALS, "welcome1");

    But if I put those env properties in jndi.properties file, it doesn't work.

    This may not help you directly. However, did you try printing the environment properties in the InitialContext you created.
    Another thing.
    You can use this function after creating the initial context to see the JNDI tree and see if it contains anything.

    Hi Sanjay,
    Does the Tomcat is in the local System?
    If it is in local system try to run the application using
    <serverhost>://localhost:8080/......
    else for remote server
    Its always safe to add an entry (alias name) in drivers/hosts file with the ip address of the server like
    2.2.3.2     myLocalServer
    Now try to run and see.

    i have created a    asmx file using vs 2012 4.5 framework, and published to my d:\  drive  and mapped to a  iis  web site
    but when i trued to consume this from a another web appln, it throws me the below error:

    Here are the most common reasons this error can occur:
    The code is executed on a different machine - The SharePoint object model (except the Client API) requires to be run on the SharePoint server itself. It is not possible to run the application on a server which is not within the same
    SharePoint farm the code is trying to access.
    Insufficient Rights on the site collection - The code is executed in context of an account which does not have read permission on the site collection
    Incorrect Url being used - Verify that the site works correct in a browser and double check that the server is correct registered in the AAM settings
    Incorrect bitness - The SharePoint object model needs to be executed with the same bitness as the operating system. That means you cannot use the SharePoint object model in a 32-bit application if the Operating System and SharePoint
    are installed as 64-bit version. Ensure to compile the project using the correct bitness (64-bit on a 64-bit machine vs. 32-bit on a 32-bit machine)
    Incorrect .NET framework version -  Ensure that the project is configured to use .NET 3.5. .NET 4.0 cannot be used with the current versions of SharePoint
    from Mr.Stefan's post, i have checked with my code : as per the first reason: (1)
    i am running the code from my  SP 2013 machine only. but the only difference is that, i am using a  asp.net web appln and have added a SP references of 15 hive and trying to make a  lists.asmx file.

    now, at present , am adding a  normal asp.net 4.5 web appln and add the  web reference of this custom web service and trying to consume.
    at this point am getting mulitpl errors: like
    1) platform not supported : am stuck with this error!!
    2) sometimes, am getting document not valid...<html> <head> document not valid........</html>
    for the above 2 errorrs, i still could not able to find a solution!!
    is it because, lists.asmx is not supported in sp 2013? we need to depend on rest-api/ecma/csom ?? 
    so my question is ,  what should be the correct ad most recommended approach  for reading doc lib/ splist  records/items from a  remote macihne.

    you use "deploy" under DOS-Mode to deploy your web application?
    i found some differences between "deploy" and "redeploy" function in jbuilder 9.
    when i choose "deploy" ,jbuilder shows me the commond below:

  • Sharepoint FBA web application error: Server Error in '/' Application. when login to the web application

    I have configured FBA in SharePoint 2010. After the FBA i can get the SQL users using people picker and added users as a site collection admin.

    I checked sharepoint logs and didn't see any log. but i can see below error logged in  Event viewer application logs,
    I tried changing all customErrors mode and still same error.

    According to your description, my understanding is that the error occurred when you accessed SharePoint site through form based authentication.
    How did you configure the form based authentication?

  • Web Application Proxy and IIS

    I setup the Web Application Proxy role on Server 2012 R2 a while back and published a few applications. Everything worked great. A few months later I deployed DirectAccess on the same server. Once again, everything worked great.
    All of a sudden users started stating that they were receiving an "Internet Information Services" page while they were clicking links on the intranet. Clicking the refresh button in their browser would resolve the problem. It was puzzling. Eventually
    I figured it out. It was only mobile users having the issue. They were taking their laptops home, clicking HTTP links on our SharePoint site (which were not deployed via Web Application Proxy), which was then hitting the Web Application Proxy server's
    port 80 over HTTP (not HTTPS). Then the page was being cached by IE on their laptop/tablet. When they returned to the office the cached page was opening which is why hitting refresh resolved the issue.
    I understand that one of the issues is the wrong link on the intranet (HTTP vs HTTPS). We'll have these corrected. But the real problem is that they were hitting IIS on our Web Application Proxy server. Why is IIS installed? It's not required by WAP
    and I never installed it... Was it installed as part of DirectAccess? And most importantly, will I break anything by forwarding HTTP to HTTPS within IIS using URL rewrite? Will it affect DirectAccess? Our NLS is not on the DA server.
    Once again, this server is only used for WAP and DA. Nothing else. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Yes, IIS is a part of DirectAccess.
    Windows Server 2012 combines the DirectAccess feature and the RRAS role service into a new unified server role. This new Remote Access server role allows for centralized administration, configuration, and monitoring of both DirectAccess and VPN-based remote
    access services.
    When we try to remove the IIS, we will get the message below,
    I have tried to disable the IIS server on my DirectAccess server. DirectAccess client still works properly. Therefore, it seems that the IIS is not necessary to DirectAccess.

  • What's the difference between a web site and a web application?

    I'm stumped trying to come up to a difference between a web site and a web application for myself. As I see it, a web site points to a specific page and a web application is more of some sort of 'portal' to content and information.
    But where I'm stuck is that a web application is still viewed through a browser (is it not?) and a web site can still view content dynamically, making the line between web site and application prety gray.
    For instance, does a web site using ASP.NET or AJAX (I assume ASP.NET is AJAX's proprietary sibling, if not, ignore ASP.NET AND concentrate on the AJAX), becomes a web application because it can retrieve data dynamically and asynchronously or would a website
    using PHP and a CMS be more of a web application because it forms the pages on request, based on the request of the client and its content in its databse?
    Or maybe I'm totally wrong here - what differenciates between a web application and a website?

    This is totally personal and subjective, but I'd say that a website is defined by its content, while a webapplication is
    defined by its interaction with the user. That is, a website can plausibly consist of a static content repository that's dealt out to all visitors, while a web application depends on interaction and requires programmatic user input and data processing.
    For example, a news site would be a "website", but a spreadsheet or a collaborative calendar would be web "applications". The news site shows essentially the same information to all visitors, while the calendar processes individual data.
    Practically, most websites with quickly changing content will also rely on a sophisticated programmatic (and/or database) backend, but at least in principle they're only defined by their output. The web application on the other hand is essentially a program that
    runs remotely, and it depends fundamentally on a processing and a data storage backend.

    There is no real "difference". Web site is a more anachronistic term that exists from the early days of
    the internet where the notion of a dynamic application that can respond to user input was much more limited and much less common. Commercial websites started out largely as interactive brochures (with the notable exception of hotel/airline reservation sites).
    Over time their functionality (and the supporting technologies) became more and more responsive and the line between an application that you install on your computer and one that exists in the cloud became more and more blurred.
    If you're just looking to express yourself clearly when speaking about what you're building, I would continue to describe something that is an interactive brochure or business card as a "web site" and something that actually *does something that feels
    more like an application as a web app.
    The most basic distinction would be if a website has a supporting database that stores user data and modifies what the user sees based on some user specified criteria, then it's probably an app of some sort (although I would be reluctant to describe Amazon.com
    as a web app, even though it has a lot of very user-specific functionality). If, on the other hand, it is mostly static .html files that link to one another, I would call that a web site.
    Most often, these days, a web app will have a large portion of its functionality written in something that runs on the client (doing much of the processing in either javascript or actionscript, depending on how its implemented) and reaches back through some
    http process to the server for supporting data. The user doesn't move from page to page as much and experiences whatever they're going to experience on a single "page" that creates the app experience for them.

  • Create a new web application, how shall I update the file server.xml

    I will create a new web application, i.e named newApp. Then I create a file structure as follows:
    - <server-root>/newApp
    - <server-root>/newApp/WEB-INF
    - <server-root>/newApp/WEB-INF/classes
    Then I must tell the server that I have created a new web application. Then I must update my file server.xml, How shall I do this and where in the file shall I type in the new information?
    I use windows XP Pro, and Tomcat 4.1.27.

    To use servlets u have indeed to update your web.xml...Well I'm not sure this is relevant to your case anyway.
    You have to add a <servlet> element to this file.
    Something like this:

    Now this may not solve your problem. Make sure you refer to your servlets using their full qualified names.btw, just to be sure, what is your definition of "servlet"? (i mean: any java class or only javax.servlet.Servlet)

    I have set the context path to /tdm in the server.xml file. Should this be placed in context.xml?
    My first page in the project is called Homepage.html. To start my project I give http://localhost:5050/tdm/homepage.html
    in a browser. Here I accept a username and password from the user and then do the validation in
    a valid.jsp file, where I connect to the database and check and use jsp:forward to go to next pages
    accordingly. However when I enter the username and password and click Go in the homepage, nothing is
    displayed on the next page. The URL in the browser says valid.jsp but a blank screen appears.
    WHY DOES IT HAPPEN SO? DOES IT MEAN THAT TOMCAT IS NOT RECOGNIZING JAVA IN MY SYSTEM OR IS IT A PROBLEM
    WITH THE DATABASE CONNECTION OR SOMETHING ELSE? I FEEL THAT TOMCAT IS NOT EXECUTING JSP COMMANDS?
    IS IT POSSIBLE?WHY WILL THIS HAPPEN?
    I set the JAVA_HOME and CATALINA_HOME environment to the jdk and tomcat folders resp.
    Is there any other thing that I need to set in classpath? Should I have my project as a
    WAR file in the webapps of TOMCAT or just a folder i.e. directory structure will fine?

    I have set the context path to /tdm in the server.xml file. Should this be placed in context.xml?
    My first page in the project is called Homepage.html. To start my project I give http://localhost:5050/tdm/homepage.html
    in a browser. Here I accept a username and password from the user and then do the validation in
    a valid.jsp file, where I connect to the database and check and use jsp:forward to go to next pages
    accordingly. However when I enter the username and password and click Go in the homepage, nothing is
    displayed on the next page. The URL in the browser says valid.jsp but a blank screen appears.
    WHY DOES IT HAPPEN SO? DOES IT MEAN THAT TOMCAT IS NOT RECOGNIZING JAVA IN MY SYSTEM OR IS IT A PROBLEM
    WITH THE DATABASE CONNECTION OR SOMETHING ELSE? I FEEL THAT TOMCAT IS NOT EXECUTING JSP COMMANDS?
    IS IT POSSIBLE?WHY WILL THIS HAPPEN?
    I set the JAVA_HOME and CATALINA_HOME environment to the jdk and tomcat folders resp.
    Is there any other thing that I need to set in classpath? Should I have my project as a
    WAR file in the webapps of TOMCAT or just a folder i.e. directory structure will fine?

    Hi,
    We have a very specific problem regarding the handling of attachments with SRM 7.0 web applications. The system is configured to use ArchiveLink for storing documents on a remote content server, which is working fine.
    Now we have a requirement which should restrict access to certain documents to specific user groups. As an example you could say that a Purchase order has (besides others) two documents attached, e.g.
    - signed contract
    - meeting minutes
    The contract should only be visible to a limited number of people, whereas the Meeting Minutes are accessible to everybody.
    Our problem is that apparently only one Content Category ("BBPFILESYS") is used by the SRM web applications for an upload. When granting authorizations on this content category, we cannot distinguish between contracts and meeting minutes anymore.
    Comparing this with the config in ECC we can freely define document types which can be used in AUTH profiles. Is there any similar solution that can be used in SRM 7.0?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
