Remote WMI Failing

We are running an Asset Management solution in our customer's Windows Environment which uses WMI protocol to query system information on all the servers in the environment in order to collate the information into a central repository.
The WMI queries are in VB Script which is run by a C# wrapper (not my code and it works fine throughout the rest of the environment)
Of the 300-odd servers, it is working fine on approximately 290 of them.
The remaining ones are failing and I'm struggling to figure out why.
Error details are:
* ErrorNumber: -2147023174
* Description: The RPC server is unavailable.
We use 4 source servers to collect the information (due to security restrictions requiring some sections of the network to be separated) and all of them have SOME Of their systems working.  All servers on the source server's domain are working and all
of the failing destinations are WORKGROUP; however there ARE some workgroup servers which are working fine.
I've been working through the failing targets and have run out of troubleshooting ideas:
I am able to telnet from the source server to the destinations on ports 135 and 445 once the FW was opened to allow it (the FW rules were done across different sections of the environment and others are working fine)
I have checked and verified the authentication to the target servers
Target servers are a mix of Windows Server 2003 and 2008 R2.  There are 2003 and 2008 servers working fine through the same process
Local Firewalls are all turned off
Any help would be much appreciated as I'm pretty well out of ideas

Hi,
àErrorNumber: -2147023174
àDescription: The RPC server is unavailable.
For the error message, most probably the RPC dynamic port is being blocked by the firewall. I noticed that you wrote “Local Firewalls are all turned off”. Would you please let me confirm
whether install any third-party firewall or security software? Please check firewall again and also temporarily disable security software, then monitor the result. Please also refer to following KB and check if can help you.
How to configure RPC dynamic port allocation to work with firewalls
Please type
wmimgmt.msc in RUN to open WMI Control. Then right-click WMI Control (Local) and click “Connect to another computer…”. Please check if manually connect successfully.
If any update, please feel free to let me know.
Best regards,
Justin Gu

    Hi Henado
Check the time on your Exchange server(s) relative to the DCs and ensure they are in correct sync
Use another account which is assigned the Organization Management permission and log to to the server run the command in shell and see the results
    Run
    Add-PSSnapin -Name Microsoft.Exchange.Management.PowerShell.E2010
Set-Adserversettings -ViewEntireForest $True and then run message tracking command and see the results
If none of the above helps you may need to remove and re-install the WinRM and see the results
    Good Luck :)

  • Elom Java Console "Connect to remote host Fail"

    Hi,
I'm accessing an elom over the https interface, which works fine, however when trying to launch the Java console, the app starts but a dialogue box appears stating "Connect to remote host Fail!", and quits when I click ok. I'm using:
    Kubuntu 9.10
    Firefox 3.5.5
    Java 1.6.0_15
    Elom firmware version 2.70
I've also tried running against JRE 1.5, and tried saving the jnlp file and running that directly from javaws, all attempts produce the same result. I am able to connect to port 8890 from my machine. An strace seems to suggest that it sends and receives from port 8890 but then gets a Connection reset by peer.
Furthermore I've also tried running it through localhost using an ssh tunnel to the elom, again, same result.
I've now run out of ideas of what could be causing this issue, any help would be greatly appreciated.
    TIA
    Regards
    Craig

FYI, I downloaded the debian package of libstdc++5 from http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/pool/main/g/gcc-3.3/libstdc++5_3.3.6-18_i386.deb
After installing that on Kubuntu, the console works fine.

Yo encontré estas recomendaciones que me sirvieron para poder consultar el servidor remoto.
    http://www.poweradmin.com/help/enablewmi.aspx
     Allow WMI through Windows firewall
All users (including non-administrators) are able to query/read WMI data on the local computer.
For reading WMI data on a remote server, a connection needs to be made from your management computer (where our monitoring software is installed) to the server that you're monitoring (the target server). If the target server is running Windows Firewall (aka
Internet Connection Firewall) like what is shipped with Windows XP and Windows 2003, then you need to tell it to let remote WMI requests through2. This can only be done at the
command prompt. Run the following on the target computer if it is running a Windows firewall:
netsh firewall set service RemoteAdmin enable
Como segunda opcion tambien se puede modificar el group policy y especificar que ips tendran acceso a consultar el WMI remotamente.
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc738900(v=ws.10).aspx
    Using Group Policy
To enable or disable the Remote administration exception
Open the Group Policy Object Editor snap-in to edit the Group Policy object (GPO) that is used to manage Windows Firewall settings in your organization.
Open Computer Configuration, open Administrative Templates, open Network, open Network Connections, open Windows
Firewall, and then open either Domain Profile or Standard Profile, depending on which profile you want to configure.
In the details pane, double-click Windows Firewall: Allow remote administration exception.
In the Windows Firewall: Allow remote administration exception properties dialog box, on the Settings tab, click Enabled or Disabled.

  • Excel Services, connection to remote DB fails.

Hi got this error message (below) when I try to refresh a excel powerpivot document with a Connection to a remote database (not SharePoint). I have configured an unattended account, and we run this workbook with an SQL-account with db-reader permissions
to the database. If we run the workbook directly from Excel it works excellent. I followed all guides on TechNet etc, but can get this to work.
An error occurred while working on the Data Model in the workbook. Please try again.
We were unable to refresh one or more data connections in this workbook.
The following connections failed to refresh:
    SqlServer jon-int-sql01 testdb

Also get this in the event Viewer:
OLE DB or ODBC error: Login failed for user 'sp2013'.; 28000.
But I can login remotely from the SharePoint server with sql management studio, so my credentials are correct.

  • Remote Desktop Fail after March 10 Updates!

I updated client servers with MS updates as usual over the weekend remotely. Tried to remotely log into 2 of the servers after they rebooted; Server 2008 R2 and 2008 Standard, and was denied with "Your credentials did not work" message at the top
of the dialog. Administrator, other IDs did not work. Only way to log into either server was to drive into the client (on Sunday) and login from the console. Once logged in from the console I was able to RD into each. If the server is rebooted RD is again
unavailable until logged in from the console. I am now seeing that remote access works for a while but in some cases becomes unavailable after a while. The problem only seems to affect server 2008 and 2012 variants.
Backed out the following updates and the problem remained: KB3002657, KB3033929, KB3046049, KB3035131, KB3034344, KB3032359, KB3039066, KB3035132, KB3035126, KB3033889, KB3032323, KB3030377. Then I restored the System State from the day before the updates but
    the problem is still present.
Unfortunately, this particular client has around 30 remote users who need to login every day. The only workaround I've found is to log their IDs in at the console first. Then they can connect remotely. Others have reported this problem and one post leads me
to believe it could be an issue with 2008/2012 RDS boxes on a 2003 Domain Controller. Any help appreciated or, MS: Please Get This Fixed!

We are both in the same boat.
While it's nice to know that Microsoft gives us these broken updates so we can charge customers, there is that "loyalty" factor to our customers in which we end up absorbing the many hours of troubleshooting and research time spent.
Failing to find a suitable solution to this problem by end of day I will attempt to remove ALL 27 Security Updates that were installed to see if this resolves the issue.
What scares me is that you probably removed the applicable ones and that we will be in the same situation after removal.

  • Running CMP EJB in remote OC4J fails, works in embedded. Oracle 9i

I more or less followed the EJB Tutorial (in the help) for creating a session-entity bean facade from Oracle 9i tables. Everything executes correctly in the embedded oc4j but it fails on the remote oc4j with
    java.sql.SQLException: Invalid column name
         at oracle.jdbc.dbaccess.DBError.throwSqlException(DBError.java:187)
         at oracle.jdbc.dbaccess.DBError.throwSqlException(DBError.java:229)

         at EmployeeLocalHome_EntityHomeWrapper13.findAll(EmployeeLocalHome_EntityHomeWrapper13.java:1260)
Then I also created another simpler CMP EJB that just has 3 fields from Oracle table. This one doesn't even work in embedded oc4j :
com.evermind.server.rmi.OrionRemoteException: Database error: ORA-01747: invalid user.table.column, table.column, or column specification
         java.util.Collection TimesheetHoursHome_EntityHomeWrapper11.findAll()
Are there any known problems I should look out for with generating CMP EJBS with wizards?
I think the IDE is more intuitive than WSAD. It would be great it things worked though.
Another question is regarding relationships. Do the wizards always use ejb-refs to implement relationships? It should be easy enough to add them with EJB Editor if they do not.
    Thanks for any help.

Known issues are documented in the release notes
    http://otn.oracle.com/products/jdev/htdocs/readme_903Preview.html#ejb
<<<Another question is regarding relationships. Do the wizards always use ejb-refs to implement relationships? >>>>
Not sure what you meant here. If you reverse engineer let us say DEPT and EMP tables, foreign key relationships between the tables are reverse engineered as CMR but there aren't any ejb-ref/ejb-local-ref tags which get generated in the deployment descriptor.
<<It should be easy enough to add them with EJB Editor if they do not. >>
You can double-click on the EJB to bring the EJB Module Editor and select "Relationships" node to add/edit/delete relationships visually.

  • Remote links fail

We have a micky mouse stored procedure to check the link to a remote Oracle database before attempting to transfer data between the two.
create or replace function isFredAvailable return boolean
/* Figures out whether FRED is available or not. */
    is
    dummy integer;
    begin
execute immediate 'select 7 from dual@FRED'

/* We don't really care why it failed. If it fails, then something
    must be seriously wrong... */
    return false;
    end isFredAvailable;
For some reason, when this is called from a Forms application it slowly caused our live system to degrade and eventually crash.
For reasons known only to themselves, the DBAs enabled the link to FRED (name changed to protect the innocent) before they had created any tables etc.

Do you have double NAT.. ??
If so it will block incoming packets.. but you will still have network connections.. this cannot be done without the TC in the correct setup.
The best way to tell is to give me a traceroute to a google DNS server..
So just copy and paste it.

You must not have more than one private ip address. In my case 192.168.x.x
If you do have then you must bridge the TC. And even that maybe inadequate.
I can tell you how to do that.. but need to know what OS and airport utility version you are using.

Has anyone else ran across this? I did not get any hits on Metalink, just thought I'd try here before opening a tar.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
The oracle error you are getting means that
ORA-00980 synonym translation is no longer valid
Cause: The synonym used is based on a table, view, or synonym that no longer exists.
Action: Replace the synonym with the name of the object it references or re-create the synonym so that it refers to a valid table, view, or synonym.
Please do as suggested in the action.
    Thanks,
    Sharmila

  • Routing and Remote Access fails to install

Hello, I recently installed Windows Server 2008 beta 3 onto my new computer, which went smothly. I have ADDS, DHCP, DNS, IIS, Terminal Services, and Network Policy and Access Service installed and they all work perfectly. However, I recently tried to install Routing and Remote Access, but I got the following error message when I finished the configuration wizard: "Installation of the Routing and Remote Access Service failed because: Class not registered (80040154). Whats causing this, and how do I fix this?

I also have this trouble of an error when installing Routing and Remote Access "class not registered..."
It is a Windows Server 2008 RTM clean install.
Added machine to our Windows 2003 domain and then after reboot added Windows Powershell.
Logged in as domain admin and then when tried to add routing and remote access got the message described by everyone else.
Like others I need to know how to get over this problem.
