Remote won't pair up

Previously the apple remote worked. Now why won't my apple remote pair up with the ATV but my iphone remote app will work? I've tried all the trouble shooting tips but with no luck. Could a bad battery affect this? Thanks.

Presumably you've seen this:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1722
...and tried unpairing first using menu and rewind together for 6 secs to remove any previous IR pairing (broken link appears).

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Your Apple TV may have become paired with another remote. Hold the remote close to and pointed at the Apple TV, hold down the menu and Rewind buttons together for 6 seconds or until you see a broken chain icon on screen.

  • Remote won't pair

I just bought the MacBook Pro with Retina running 10.7.4 and no matter how hard I try, I can't make the remote pair with it.
I've tried the System Preferences>Lock>Pair option that everyone says works, but it just doesn't!
    - And yes, I'm logged in as the Admin (there are no other users).
-And yes, the battery is good, I've un-paired it from my desk top, nothing.
Its a real shame, and I'm starting to obsess about it...someone plese help me get on with enjoying my new toy!!!

Never mind. It would seem the MacBook Pro with Retina doesn't have an IR receiver...at least thats what I read. Correct me if I'm wrong.

  • Apple remote won't pair to ipad 2

I was able to pair my Apple remote to my iMac, but it doesn't respond at all to the iPad 2.  I followed the same directions for  both - holding the Menu and right bottom at the same time for 5 seconds.  There is no response at all.

The iPad will not respond to the Apple Remote because it does not have a built-in IR receiver. What were your expectations for using the remote with the iPad? I have not seen this listed as a feature.

  • Remote won't pair with itunes

Before we start I am runnning Windows 7
I have an iPhone 3GS and I can't get my remote app to sync with my library. Now I have all the up to date software and apps, and the biggest problem that I can see is that when I try to go into iTunes preferences I try to click the "Look for iPod touch, iPhone and iPad Remotes" button but it isn't there. My iPhone does not appear in the list of devices that it should when I try to input the 4 digit code. I haven't got any other devices to see if its just mine or not.
Home sharing does work connection iTunes to my iPhone however if the iPhone goes to sleep then it can't re-sync with the library. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

I also have this problem: all I have in preferences is "iTunes is not paired with any remotes" ...I'm trying to get the remote app to talk to iTunes, but this isn't helping. I've tried all the suggested hints (same network, restarting everything, blah blah blah). All I need to do is get this little bit to do what it should, but so far nothing.

  • T61 Bluetooth won't pair w/ Wiimote (Wii Remote) with 5.5.0.5800

I'm trying to use a wiimote for a elecronic whitebaord implementation. (wiimoteproject.com). The wiimote doesn't use a passkey to pair. If one is given, it won't pair. I just downloaded the latest BT stack and am now version 5.5.0.5800. However, when you add a device in My Bluetooth Places, it requires a passkey. The previous version of the BT stack ( I believe the version I had before was 5.1.xxx ) didn't require the passkey to pair.
    Help.
    Solved!

    Hi.
I could't find the drivers version metioned above.
My case was the same, I always was asked for a key pass for the wii mote.
And when I went to Start->Settings->Control Panel-> Blue Tooth Devices. In the Hardware tab there was nothing.
Using add and remove programs I remove Thinkpad Bluetooth with Enhanced Data Rate Software (It took much time with the progress bar stoped) and after restarting, windows installed automatically its drivers ¿instead of the lenovo ones?.
The fact is that now I can use Start->Settings->Control Panel-> Blue Tooth Devices. In the hardware tab now there is information and using the Devices tab I can add the wii mote, this time it asks you if a pass key is needed.
I hope this was your case too.

  • Remote will not pair

I'm going crazy here... my Apple TV Remote will not pair. I was trying to "reset" the Apple TV, but I guess I held down the wrong combination of buttons. I now have an unpaired remote that won't pair.
When I hold down "Menu+Next" I get a solid amber light after about 3 seconds. This actually happens if I hold any button/ button combinations down for 3 or more seconds.

    Perhaps this will help: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304977
    In summary:
    1. Unpair the remote by holding down the Previous/Rewind (|<<) and Menu buttons for 6 seconds (this can be done using any Apple remote).
    2. Then pair the remote by simultaneously holding down the Next/Fast-Forward (>>|) and Menu buttons for 6 seconds

  • I just downloaded the newest IOS software and now my iPhone5 won't pair with the Bluetooth in my car (the car system says it's paired when I try to re-pair it but then when n try to make a call it tells me it doesn't recognize the phone.

I just downloaded the IOS upgrade, 7.0.2, and now my iPhone 5 won't pair with my Bluetooth in my car, despite repeated attempts to re-pair the two and despite the fact it's been paired fine previously.  The car system tells me it's paired but then when I try to make a call I get another message that says there is no paired phone.

You can't override it no matter what you do. The device has to connect to the server to complete the iOS update. You could try rebooting the iPad and see if that lets you connect to the server after it starts up.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
If that will not work, you can try connecting to iTunes on your computer and see if the activation will complete. Sometimes when thes activation issues arise, you end up having to restore the device again, but first things first. Reboot and see what happens.

  • My mac pro won't pair with my magic trackpad.

I'm posting in this forum because I am using a Mac Pro, what we used to call a "tower," and my Magic Trackpad isn't recognized & won't pair. This has been an increasing problem over the past year, and I actually blamed the trackpad and bought a new one -- and of course it doesn't work either. My MacBook Pro (actually two of them) use the same latest version of Mountain Lion and they pair up just fine, never dropping the connection. I'm an old-timer with 25 years on the Mac, and I'm stumped. The support forums here confirm that this is a common problem -- MT not pairing -- and I have tried every suggestion I can find. Booting in safe mode, repairing permissions, trashing the bluetooth prefs file, VRAM and SMC resets, moving computer away from any possible interference, and probably two or three more I can't recall. I don't have any exotic apps installed (there's one that has something to do with Windows that can cause this problem, but I don't have it), nothing on the tower that's not on the two laptops running the same OS X version. For the record, I have a 2x2.8 Quad-Core Intel Xeon, 4 GB 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM, all the original Apple installation. OS X is 10.8.4. I've tried three different brands of alkaline batteries. For a time the problem was intermittent (the dreaded "dropped connection") but now it doesn't pair up at all, i.e. neither of my two trackpads pair up. I've let the "searching" function run for as long as 30 minutes, including some restarts of the trackpad...you get the picture. Although this has been addressed in other places in support, I am posting here because so far I don't have a solution. Any ideas? I really appreciate the forum, have been here a long time, and hope that someone has that next good idea that's going to help me. Thanks in advance!

I had the same problem as you with Bluetooth stuff. It was suggested to me that I buy an external BT dongle
as the bluetooth reception in the stock Mac Pro was spotty at best.I did so- iogear 421 (the 521 is supported but ONLY in Mountain Lion, so I was told) and bluetooth works just fine.  Of course it might be that the cables for your Bluetooth/Airport card in your Mac Pro could have been installed incorrectly (just google bluetooth in Mac Pro help) but...if they have been, then the dongle might be your best bet, or some kind of external antenna
(the G5 had one, as you may know, but we don't......)
I see by your posting you have tried every suggestion you possibly could, and it's not software related
    and it's not a simple one-shot-done fix...
that's the best I have for now. I think I paid about $25 for the dongle and it was easy as pie to install

  • Mac Mini: either Magic Mouse OR Keyboard won't pair at startup

OK I'm stumped and apparently Apple Support is stumped too. I have a problem with my new Mac mini. It will not pair to both my wirelesss keyboard and Magic Mouse on startup. I have an old white "Wireless Keyboard," sometimes referred to as the Bluetooth Keyboard. It's about 6 years old, I purchased it in 2006 with a late Power Mac G5 Quad. It worked great.
But now I just bought a new Mac mini, i7 2.7Ghz, running all current updates to MacOS X 10.7.4. I paired the new Magic Mouse and the Wireless Keyboard just fine. But on every reboot, the keyboard would not pair, it would always go to the Bluetooth Assistant and say no keyboard was attached. I would have to turn the keyboard power switch on and off, usually a couple of times, before it would recognize it. Sometimes I even had to go to the bluetooth menu item and manually Connect the keyboard.
I called Apple tech support under warranty, we tried many things like deleting the bluetooth settings and recreating them, even turning the mini off and pulling the power cord for 30 sec (lol wut). But nothing would work. The Apple tech said, oh well, it's an old product, the higher level tech says it's not supported. Live with it.
But NOW I have just the opposite problem. Sometimes my Magic Mouse won't pair and the keyboard will. So obviously there is no technical reason why this mini won't pair with the keyboard on boot, it IS supported. But invariabley one device or the other, either the keyboard OR the Magic Mouse will not pair at startup. This is particularly a pain if the mouse won't pair, I have to keep a USB mouse plugged in so I can use the bluetooth menu to Connect. Now this is insane. I have to use a USB mouse to connect my wireless mouse.
So, Apple Support didn't have any ideas. Maybe someone else has some ideas. I don't see any reason why my new Mac mini won't pair with both bluetooth devices at boot time. It should work.
Also I have a few gripes with the Magic Mouse, I'll toss those in too. Wow it burns batteries fast. I bought some Duracell NiMH rechargeables and a recharger, this added considerable cost to the product. But mostly I am having some sort of ergonomic problem. I am constantly doing something that causes the Dashboard to come up, even though I only have one finger on top of the mouse. I also occasionally pull up the "show all windows" feature of an app, which slows things down pulling up the windows unnecessarily and then me going back. I must be activating a two finger gesture with one finger on the side. I don't know how to prevent this, or even where I'd turn them off.
But even worse, I am geting tendonitis or carpal tunnel syndrome or something, due to the way this mouse has to be operated. I have never had this problem in my life. It seems that I am constantly holding up my index finger so I can right click. This is causing strain in my hands, and soreness. You can't right click with both fingers on the mouse. Or at least, I have never been able to. I just don't seem to be able to run this mouse well. If anyone has some tips, I would sure like to hear them. I like the scrolling gestures but I hate how it right-clicks and how it accidentally double-clicks. Oh someone please help save my wrist and tendons!
I liked the Mighty Mouse a lot, once I figured out how to clean the roller. But apparently it will not work with the Mac mini. I can pair it but it will only move up and down, it will not move the cursor left or right. Weird. I would use the old Mighty Mouse if I could get it to pair.

I have exact same problem. Mid 2010 mac mini Intel core 2 duo. Have Trackpad and silver bluetooth keyboard (both bought about a year ago). Suddenly today, Track pad stops working, keyboard was fine. After much futzing with computer and keyboard/trackpad restarts, etc, I was able to pair the track pad, but keyboard is no longer found by the mini. Once trackpad is paired, I can use it as a mouse, but none of the trackpad configurations for gestures work, and things like dragging a window around the screen is choppy, indicating I would think a spotty connection between trackpad and computer.
I also have a macbook pro that's about 3 years old, and both track pad and bluetooth keyboard pair up with this without any problem at all, so it's not the bluetooth devices.
when looking at the console of the mini, I get PAGES of errors for today, with things like 'can't get battery percentage", [BNBTrackpadDevice] getReport returned error .... for reportID ...., thousands of lines of ***Missing version string for product ****
Also, mini can't find the iPhone 3gs, the laptop or the iPad when trying to pair.
I'd say there's an issue with the Bluetooth controller or hardware, but if anyone else has had a similar experience and fixed it, please chime in.

  • My ipod touch 4th gen won't pair with bluetooth audio receiver?

My ipod touch 4th gen won't pair with my aluratech istream universal bluetooth audio receiver.  It automatically paired the first time I used it, but now will not pair.  I removed the bluetooth receiver from the ipod because it kept saying make sure the receiver device is on and within range.  Now it doesn't even detect the bluetooth receiver.  Any ideas?

Thank you!  We got the bluetooth receiver to use with our car stereo and our motorcycle stereo and were very frustrated when it quit working.  Thank you for helping me solve the problem!

  • Wireless keyb mouse detected but won´t pair.

Im on a Imac 27 inch from feb 2010, running OSX 10.6.7. Just updated all software (after the problem existed, thus the update did not cause the problem).
I´ve had some bad experience with particularly the mouse disconnecting/connecting again in a rather annoying way. The answer I got from Apple support about a year ago was to keep fresh batteries in the devices and it should work.
Suddenly my keyboard and mouse stopped working....this is what I´ve donw in my attempts to fix it:
    - tried both devices on a Imac at the local Mac store, both connected and paired just fine.
    - changed the batteries on both devices
    - of course made sure Bluetooth is on and in detectable mode on my Imac
    - repaired permissions
    - trashed the bluetooth prefs...(com.apple.Bluetooth.plist)
    - turning off any other bluetooth device within 10 meter
Now, my Imac detects both the mouse and the keyboard but won´t pair with them. Also, what sometimes happens is that the computer after like 2 seconds don´t see the keyboard/mouse no more. If I go to system/keyboard and then press "Settings for Bluetooth keyboard" in the lower right corner (I´m on a Swedish Imac so I´m not 100% sure what it says in english but I hope you understand), it will detects "Peters Keyboard" then I press continue to pair it and then it dissapears....very strange. Sometimes the Imac asks me to enter a 8 digit code for the pairing to work, but after doing so it´s still not working.
Very very strange behaviour and I don´t know what to do. Unfortunately re-installing OSX is not an option right now, but I would be so glad if someone could give me some hints on stuff to try out. Can I delete the  Bluetooth driver and associated files in some way? I do have a USB mouse, however no USB keyboard.
    Many thanks in advance

    Can you at least right-click?

  • IPhone6 won't pair with BlueTooth on MBPro

IPhone6, iOS 8.1.1 won't pair with BlueTooth on MBPro nor can I use it as Blue Tooth "hands free" device in my car. Blue Tooth is enabled on the phone and on the MBPro.  I try to "connect to network" on the iPhone, using BT preferences on the MBPro, but get the message "can't connect" . On the MBPro, have gone to Sys. Pref., Network, can see the phone but again get the same message when I try to connect.
On the phone under the green button (which enables) the BlueTooth, I see the word "other devices" and a spinning beach ball as the phone tries to find additional devices but no joy.
Have Googled the problem, am reading similar issues - people seem to think it was the new iOS 8.0 and 8.1.1 was supposed to be a fix but it isn't.  Any thoughts out there would be much appreciated.

Great - finally got our iPhones6 "discoverable" on our car. Whew!!!  Thank you so much.
But, still can't pair our iPHone with my MBPro.  Follwed directions on your link but no joy....<sigh>
The MBPro does NOT find the iPhone device. Don't know why......
However, the biggest problem is solved, hopefully.....that being the car/phone connection.
    Appreciate the assistance.
    thx

  • Bluetooth for iPhone 6 still won't pair with my car after iOS 8.1 update

So frustrated. I assumed that Apple knew about the problem and that iOS 8.1 would fix what is clearly a very common/widespread issue. Bluetooth is not exactly a new technology... how is it that Apple creates a highly advanced phone, but it can't make a 10-15 years-old technology work?
I never had any issues with my 5S, but my iPhone 6 has not been able to pair with the Bluetooth in my 2011 Mini Cooper since the day I got it (no phone or BT audio). The 8.1 update has had zero effect on the sequence of events that occur when I try to pair my phone. The car has no problem recognizing the phone, and I can see the car listed under Bluetooth devices, and when I select the car from the list of devices on the phone, the screen to enter the pairing code comes up on my car display. The problem is that the phone never gives me the code to enter into the car display.
I have tried all the "tricks" people have used to get their BT to work (deleting all phones from car, resetting all phone settings, renaming the phone, etc). Nothing works for me. I really don't want to have to get rid of my 6, but since Apple has never publicly acknowledged the problem, I have no way of knowing if this is ever going to be fixed.
Really disappointed in you Apple. This is my 3rd iPhone, and you're about to lose a loyal customer if you don't get this sorted out very soon.

The same problem here.  iPhone 6 with iOS 8.1.2 and bmw 328i 2013 with latest Bluetooth update doesn't pair. The phone will see the car in bluetooh settings but fails to connect.  Based on apple tech support I did the following:
    1. powered thr phone down and back on- no help
    2. Removed all other phones from iDrive- no help
    3. Tried with wi if off - no help
    4. Reset network settings- no help
    5. Restored my phone entirely to factory settings- no help
The phone can pair to other Bluetooth devices and the car can pair with iphone 4 running iOS 7 no problem. my wife's iphone 6 won't pair with my car either.
I sure hope apple is still working to correct this!
