Remotely Controlling A Mac From A PC

How can someone remotely control a Mac from a PC?
What would need to be set to allow a PC access?

If you have enabled remote access (ssh) and you have configure your router to allow incoming ssh connections to your mac then you could access your mac via a terminal something like Putty on your pc and turn on screen sharing via the terminal.
10.5: Start screen sharing remotely in Terminal
You could install vine server on your mac, and again that could be lauched via an ssh connection.

Check out LogMeIn. I'm not sure if it works in both direction though. I can control my Mac from my iPhone.

You can do it manually, but it is much simpler if you use a tool such as Back To My Mac, LogMeIn, or something like that. Those programs enable you to connect to your computer through your router without you having to adjust the router settings manually.

    No.

  • HT1941 how do i remote control my mac mini from my macbook air

I want to control my iTunes library from my mac air.  How do I setup the remote control to accomplish this?

    1. Use the Remote App on iDevices. There are third-party apps also available.
    2. Use Screen Sharing on the MBAir.
    3. More elaborate solutions using the IR Remote and IR Blasters are also possible.
    4. AirParrot and Beamer may also provide some capabilities.
    5. AirPlay requires ATV and a Mac.

  • Remote control a Mac server from Windows machines

I'm running a Mavericks Server that I'd like to get off my desk and put in the data center. However, my primary laptop is a Windows 8.1 laptop that I use to support other things. I'd still like the ability to remote into the Mac Server from my Windows laptop. I know that I can VNC into the server, but it's my understanding that if I have Remote Management turned on, I can't have Screen Sharing (and thus, VNC) turned on. So it seems like my options are to run  another VNC server on a different port or use LogMeIn Ignition. But I'm not sure what other people are using so I'd like your help. Thoughts? Suggestions?
    TIA

As you have found via the answer provided by Morgan R, it is possible to configure Remote Management to allow standard VNC clients to connect just like it is possible with Screen Sharing.
Note: Remote Management does everything Screen Sharing does plug other things. So anything you can do via Screen Sharing you can do via Remote Management.
However there is a client available for Windows that does support the extended login information used by Remote Management/Screen Sharing, this is 'Remotix' by Nulana.
    See http://www.nulana.com/remotix-windows/
I have tried it and it does work. I did however find one serious bug which I have reported to them but I don't know if they have fixed it yet.
Over the years I have found many in fact nearly all software that involves linking Mac and Windows where one controls the other in either direction has suffered an inexcusable bug whereby if you are not using US keyboards at both ends then several keys will not be mapped properly and you can even end up with some keys not usable at all. The most infamous combination is the @ and " keys being swapped.
All these programs appear to have been written by Americans who are members of the 'flat earth' society and obviously believe that if you leave the shores of the USA you will fall of the edge of the world. I presume they also are avid fans of the Discworld series of books.
Offenders include Virtual PC, Microsoft Remote Desktop Client 1.0 (for Mac), Timbkutu Pro, Remotix and I am sure many others.
Note: Microsoft did at least fix theirs several years later with Remote Desktop Client 2.0 (for Mac).
The one noteable exception is VNC. VNC was originally developed at AT&T Laboratories in Cambridge, England. (Not New England.)
See http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/research/dtg/attarchive/vnc/ I am sure if it had been developed in Cambridge, Massachusetts it would have suffered the same problem. Since Screen Sharing on Macs is based on VNC it has never suffered this problem even when controlling a PC via VNC. I am therefore even more shocked that Nulana managed to make this mistake.

  • Remote control of Mac via Flash iOS app

    Hi all
I am a very trial-and-error Flash coder but have managed to create a (I think) pretty serviceable VJ system - see http://www.smashedupsoiree.com/magic-wall/
There are two Flash movies that run concurrently on the same Mac. One is the video content itself which is displayed by a projector; the other is the Controller movie which runs on the mac laptop screen. The two movies communicate by LocalConnection. I have had some success using VNC apps on an ipad which grabs the screen from the Mac and therefore enables this Controller movie to be effectively operated as a touch screen, portable interface. However there are latency issues with VNC - not what you need for a live performance tool!
I am considering instead developing the controller as a packaged-for-ios app to reduce the latency issues. If I do so, does anyone know how it will be able to control the flash movie running on the mac on the same network? (In the vein of these kinds of apps: http://mashable.com/2010/02/28/iphone-remote-control-apps/ )? I have read that Local Connections do not work in Packaged-for-iOS apps. Would I instead use Apple APIs? How is this done via Flash Actionscript? I would want to either control the Mac-based movie like a LocalConnection or even simulating keypresses would be fine, that I can then detect with the Mac Flash movie.
As I mentioned before, I'm no professional coder so the whole matter is a bit blurry to me! Any pointers would be much appreciated...

  • Hi! I would like to remote control my iPad from my Windows PC. Is that possible?

Hi! I would like to remote control my iPad (my sister has borrowed it and is in another city!) from my Windows PC OR from another iPad I use at home.
    Is that possible?

TeamViewer allows you to control a PC or Mac from an iPad, not to control an iPad from another device. You can, as I said, push settings, do some reporting, transfer documents, and some other administration functions:
    http://www.teamviewer.com/en/products/mobile-device-support.aspx
but again, remote control of an iOS device is not possible.
    Regards.

  • Remote Control and FQDN from admin console

Hi everyone, I want to validate something with the community.
I have an environment with two domain and there is no DNS Suffixes pushed.
When looking at the properties of some computers on the second domain, I can validate that the full name of the computer is there.
When trying the remote control form the console, the computer cannot be reach.
When using the stand alone remote tool, and entering the complete computer name, the computer can be reach.
Is it normal that ConfigMgr is not using the information he is retrieving from the inventory.
I know that the simple answer is pushing more DSN suffixes but I was in the idea that the complete name was used and wanted to validate. I will probably ask for an addition for a next version or update.
    Thank you all!
    Mathieu

    Hi,
As you write it would be an change request for the next release of Configuration Manager, I would reccomend that you file it on the Connect site.

  • TV remote control reset procedure from tech support

I was able to get this information from Toshiba tech support. It is not posted in the Forums or Knowledge Base that I could find.
I have a 42" LCD TV model 42RV530U. The top row of buttons (on/off, picture size were the 2 I needed today) on the remote stopped working. Other buttons work fine.I tried new batteries and the TV reset procedure. Neither worked.
Here is what tech support said: Remove the batteries from the remote. Then press every button on the remote from top to bottom. EVERY button. Then re-insert the batteries. BTW, this did not work for me. So I'm ordering a new remote. They are only $19.99 plus shipping and handling. Having tech support talk you through the above remote control reset procedure is $35 if your TV is out of warranty. So the cheapest solution is just buy a new remote.
    Hope this helps you today.
    Cheers!

Sorry, the problem is solved. I was lazy reading the instructions and I have figured it out. The instructions DO help you!

  • How to Remotely View a Mac from a Windows XP/7 computer

I would like to know how to, without any cost, view my Mac from a Windows XP/7 computer.
I do have Apple Remote Desktop; however, if I stand correctly, but it can only be used from Mac to Mac. So that would not be of any help. Thank you in advance.

I've used an app called "RealVNC" for windows, you can Google it to find the download. Theres a free version that works just fine.
On the Mac end you have to go into System Preferences > Sharing > Remote Access (not in front of my mac, could be wrong on the "Remote Access" name)
Turn on Remote Access and theres a checkmark in there to allow you to set a password for VNC access.
    That should be it.

  • How to remotely control my Mac at home?

I'm at work on a Mac Pro.
I want to control my iMac at home.
Both of the Macs are running OS Lion (10.7.5).
I just bought Apple Remote Desktop software.
How do I connect & control my Mac at home?
    Thanks,
    Wayne

You need something different since Remote Desktop only works on the same network. You were not clear.
    You need one of these:
Set up and use Back to My Mac - Apple Support
    Commercial products like
    TeamViewer, free for non-commercial use
    LogMeIn
    GoToMyPC

  • Remote Control another Mac?

I've tried to read up on this but couldn't quite grasp how to set it up properly, if anyone could offer any help?
I would like to use a Mac to control another Mac via the internet - i.e. by remote means.
The purpose is to demonstrate how to do something to another person, for instance, by moving the mouse on their screen to load iTunes or something similar - to show how to do simple procedures.

There are several, VNC client/servers like Chicken of the VNC, Timbuktu and logmein.com

  • Remote control of iPad from computer or another iPad

    Hello!
    Dear all,
I'm trying to find an application that wiil allow me to control an iPad (3,4) remotely from my Windows computer or from another iPad.
I know there are plenty of apps doing the opposite (e.g. control your computer using the iPad, - teamviewer etc) but I cannot find an application doing the same job the other way. I need it for company reasons, because we have many customers using iPads with our applications installed on them.
Please let me know if something like this exists. I am for Greece so i;m talking for the local App Store.
    Thank you,
    panos_mc

Has anybody heard anything about an app called SOTI MobiControl?
It says that with this software installed you can control your iPad  from your computer desktop.
    Thank you,

  • Remotely control your PC from ANYWHERE in the world using JAVA/RMI!

I have just developed a project named XtremePC.
This well commented Java project involved RMI technology, can be used to control the server from anywhere in the world including features of listing running processes, file transfer, shutdown/logoff/lock/restart server PC, execute programs, browsing in DOS/Linux fashion. The server is protected by encrypted password. I bet my time and energy on this project most for increase the strength instead of designing GUI. In response to huge request from AIUB, Bangladesh teachers and students for uploading my project of Object Oriented Programming-1 course, I have decided to come up with this Java RMI project with source code!! (Tested on jdk1.3, 1.4)
Get it from the MyDownload section of my homepage: www.tanzim.tk
    Thanks!
