Removable Storage Management in Windows 2008 R2

Hi,
Removable Storage Manager option is not available in Add/Remove Features of Server Manager.
I also tried Installing the "Windows6.1-KB974674-x64" but no luck, it prompts to turn on the Removable Storage Management.
Please help me to enable the RSm in Add/Remove features of Server Manager.
Thanks!

Hi,
Removable Storage Manager (RSM) is no longer included in Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2. When you install the hotfix KB974674, you can use Windows NT Backup Restore Utility to restore backups that are made on Windows XP and on Windows Server 2003.
For more detailed information, please see:

  • I need removable storage management on windows 7

I need  to use NT backup on windows 7 machines, there is an NT backup utility from MS that I have downloaded but I need removable storage management to install the download(RSM). RSM is not available on Windows 7 and I need to know if there is a way
    to download it.

    Hi,
Removable Storage Manager (RSM) is no longer included in Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2. If you want to restore a backup from a tape device, please perform the restore on one of the following operating systems:
    Windows XP
    Windows Server 2003
    Windows Vista
    Windows Server 2008
The Windows NT Backup Restore Utility for Windows 7 and for Windows Server 2008 R2 is not intended to remain on computers that are running Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 indefinitely and should be removed once you have restored backups that were made
on Windows XP and on Windows Server 2003.
    More information, please see:

  • Intel Matrix Storage Manager disables Windows Update and Windows Validation on Windows 7 64-bit

I have a Lenovo ThinkPad R61 8918CTO on which I did a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 (64-bit) on a new Seagate Momentus XT 750GB drive. The installation was trouble-free, as were all of the post-install Windows Updates.
Then I installed ThinkVantage System Update 4.03 and used it to install most of the available Lenovo updates. Big mistake. I'll spare you a detailed account of the hours I wasted troubleshooting, rolling back to previous restore points, and doing more troubleshooting, but it turns out that installing Intel Matrix Storage Manager driver v. 8.9.2.1002 caused Windows Update and Windows Validation to fail.
Symptoms: Windows Update control panel can't check for updates and reports that the Windows Update service isn't running when it actually is. Online Windows Validation fails and the standalone Windows Validation utility won't install. Microsoft programs that require a validated copy of Windows (e.g., Microsoft Security Essentials) won't install.
Solution: Roll back the driver for the relevant SATA controller to the previous driver.
I've reinstalled ThinkVantage System Update 4.03 and hidden the proposed Intel Matrix Storage Manager update; since then, I've used it to complete my Lenovo updates without issue.
I hope this post will help other people with this problem find the solution a lot faster than it took me!

This happened after installing a new advanced format drive with 4k-byte sectors, I'd guess.  If the storage driver doesn't report the physical sector size to Windows, update fails.
I just ran across this myself (again) putting Win 7 on a T400.
I don't know why this is still going on.  It may be that the update lists for older machines still have pre-AF-drive drivers listed.
FYI, another fix is going to the Intel site and installing the latest Matrix Storage Manager AHCI driver.  This may be more desirable than rolling back to an older driver in some cases.

  • Storage Manager and Windows 2012 Deduplication

Does anyone have Storage Manager working with the deduplicated volumes in Windows 2012? It works fine on 2012 itself, but when I attempt to move data to or from a deduplicated volume I get the following error:
182: the requested operation is not supported.
The error seems pretty self explanatory. But I'm really hoping there's a way to get it working. We're planning to do a complete teardown and rebuild of our storage and this could be a deal breaker for whether we use Storage Manager at all to manage user data.

Could you send an email to [email protected] explaining what
you're doing and providing some details of your deduplication settings?
We'd like to look at this in more detail.

  • Failed to import drivers System Center 2012 Config Manager on Windows 2008 R2 Datacenter

Hello, I am having a problem importing Surface Pro 3 drivers into SCCM 2012 on Win2008 R2 Datacenter for OSD.  I get the message that the selected drivers are not applicable to any supported platforms.  I know there was a hotfix for SCCM 2007
and Win7 only drivers.  Is there one for SCCM 2012 and Win8.1 drivers?  Or is there something else I need to be looking at?  Everything I find is for SCCM 2007 not 2012.  Any push in the right direction is greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
Please check the answer of the thread below to see if it can also resolve your issue.
    Quote:
They verified that this is NOT an SCCM 2012 Issue,  but is in fact an issue with the underlying server OS of (in this case) Server 2008 R2 SP1.  There is a known bug with inf file verfication: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/979492, but the hotfix
    doesn't currently fix it.
The workaround is to edit the Manufacture section of the affected inf files, and add NTx86.6.1.1 to the line, like this:
    [Manufacturer]
    %Microsoft% = Microsoft, NTamd64,NTx86.6.1.1

  • Multiple identical Windows 2008 Clusters for file sharing, how to create a failover, since DNS CNAME is not an option?

    Hello,
We have multiple SAN devices that expose block storage to multiple Windows 2008 Storage Edition clusters, which consume them via iSCSI. To simplify, here is what we have:
    machine1+machine2 --> cluster --> storage1 (accessible via
    \\storage1.domain.name\shares)
    machine3+machine4 --> cluster --> storage2 (accessible via
    \\storage2.domain.name\shares)
The 2 clusters have replication from active (storage1) to standby (storage2), so in theory they both include pretty much all the files.
We have hundreds of applications that are pointing to \\storage1\shares. In case of a disaster, however, it is an immensely laborious task to change all the end-points from
\\storage1\shares to \\storage2\shares, and then back.
I was trying to declare a CNAME (\\activestorage)  in our internal DNS, and point it to the
currently active storage system. I tried both an alias and an IP pointing to the cluster. However, when I try to access
\\activestorage\shares, I got an error that the network share does not exist. I have been reading about this,  and now I understand that CNAMEs are not possible in 2008 and only allowed in 2012 for this particular purpose.
I also understand that I may have to register a CAP (Client Access Point) to create an "alias" for my storage. However, the CAP approach does not seem to address (or does it?) my initial problem - I am not looking to create an alias just for a
particular storage cluster, but rather for the
active storage cluster. This way, if disaster strikes, I can simply go and change an IP somewhere, and all the applications will starting using the standby storage system.
I realize that there is an extra administration of ensuring that the two clusters are identical from shares perspective, and that's something we are already doing. All I need is a clue into how to make this architecture work in a less painful way.
    Thank you for your help,
    Isaac

I think you got confused between DFS and DFS replication. The primary use of DFS is namespace virtualization. It also has additional components which aid in real time replication. You can opt to use only the name space virtualization and not the replication.
The following link may provide some detailed information about DFS in 2008 R2. As I said.. You may not want to sue DFS Replicaiton, but DFS Namespaces is a perfect fit for your requirement (and very simple to implement)

  • DRM Web Client 500.19 issue on windows 2008(x64)  ERROR

    Hi,
I installed DRM version 11.1.2 on windows server 2008(x64), according to the documents, I pre-installed .Net 3.5.1 and modified the applicationHost.conf file.
    I found this in epm_install_troubleshooting
    Web Client Access Failure
Issue: After installing Data Relationship Management on Windows 2008 64-bit platform, you
get this error message when attempting to access the Web client:
HTTP Error 500.19 - Internal Server Error The requested page cannot be
accessed because the related configuration data for the page is invalid.
Solution: In the IIS configuration file (C:/Windows/System32/inetsrv/config/
applicationHost.config), replace the two occurrences of Deny in the following section with
    Allow:
    <configuration>
    <configSections>
    <sectionGroup name="system.webServer">
    <section name="handlers" overrideModeDefault="Deny" />
    <name="modules" allowDefinition="MachineToApplication"
    overrideModeDefault="Deny" />
However when I access the web client I got the 500.19 error, can't find C:\inetpub\wwwroot\drm-web-client\web.config, the web.config file do not exist.
    Config File \\?\C:\inetpub\wwwroot\drm-web-client\web.config

Might be too late, but the problem is that IIS is pointing to the incorrect path. Should not be pointing to C:\Inetpub\wwwrooot\.... it should be pointing to Oracle\Middleware\EPMSystem11R1\products\DataRelationshipManagement\client\web-client same thing with the migration-client IIS app. To fix use the IIS Manager click the drm-web-client virtual directory and select "Advanced Settings" and update the "Physical Path" property.

  • Satellite L555-S7008 - cant install Intel Storage Manager for Win XP

I have installed XP on my laptop.
Everything works fine except that I cant put it into Ahci mode.
I Installed xp under compatability mode because I am supposed to be able to install the sata drivers by running Intel Storage Manager.
I have tried the version on this website as well as one from Intel, and they both stop with the error
"Your computer is not does not meet the minimum requirements for this software".
I have also gathered that I can extract the drivers from this package, and install them manually,
however when i try, it say drivers extracted successfully, yet nothing is extracted.
Can someone please help me get the Storage manager to install so I can run Ahci mode.

    Hi
Satellite L555-S7008 belongs to the Toshiba US series.
You have to download the drivers from the Toshiba US driver page:
    http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/home.jsp
There is a Intel Storage Manger:
Intel Matrix Storage Manager for Windows XP/Vista/7 (32/64)(v8.9.0.1023; 10-23-2009; 4.25M)
You will need to set SATA to AHCI before including this to the Win XP setup.

    Hello,
I'm having an issue in getting the 2008 r2 DFS namespaces  servers to show up after installing the "Windows Server File & iSCSI Services 2012" and "Windows Server File & iSCSI Services 2012 R2".  The attached mp
documentation says to "Remove all existing DFS namespaces packs prior to installing the new dfs namespaces pack". However, the 2012 mp doesn't seem to include 2008 mp.
Does anyone have a guide or can clarify the install/upgrade instructions?
    Thanks.

    Regarding to

  • Can't remove Failover Cluster feature on Windows 2008 R2

    Hello
When remove the Failover Cluster feature has following message:
    Cannot remove Failover Clusting
This server is an active node in a failover cluster. Uninstalling the Failover CVlustering feature on thos node may impact the availabilty of clustered service and applications. It is recommended that you first evict the server from cluster membership. This
can be done through the Failover Cluster Management snap-in by expanding the console tree under Nodes, selecting the node, clicking More Actions, and then clicking Evict.
I'm sure there no cluster formed, so how can I remove it?
    Thanks !

Hey I have the same problem,
Somehow cluster got installed on one node on windows 2008 R2 but it was not showing anything in cluster fail over manager wizard and cluster service is
    not running
when I am trying to remove the fail over cluster it says
    "This
server is an active node in a failover cluster. Uninstalling the Failover CVlustering feature on those node may impact the availability of clustered service and applications. It is recommended that you first evict the server from cluster membership. This can
be done through the Failover Cluster Management snap-in by expanding the console tree under Nodes, selecting the node, clicking More Actions, and then clicking Evict."
    But there
is no cluster at all, I am not sure how remove it
    So let
me know will that  power shell command "clear-clusternode" fixes my problem?
    and please
let me know do I need to run it in normal Power shell command line or Power shell failover cluster manager command line?

  • Unable to load driver for Storage for Windows 2008 UCS B230 M2

I am trying to Boot from SAN windows 2008 R2. I  have configured and connected the Cisco UCS Chassis and FI to our Network & Storage .I am  having problem to install Windows 2008 R2 Server on Blades as it is not able to see Storage LUN while installation .I downloaded drivers from Cisco Support Site.
I tried drivers from ISO ucs-bxxx-drivers.2.1.3 latest version but Windows is showing driver is available but not installing the driver I am getting the following error and not showing the LUN hard disk to select the installation.
Windows is unabe to locate storage LUN. I am able to LUN while booting process.
I am not sure where I am doing wrong.or I am chosing wrong driver.

I don't see the error message either, but to install W2008 on a boot lun, you must
    1) do the zoning of the vhba (initiator) to the pwwn of the storage subsystem port (target)
    2) the lun masking / mapping has to be setup
    3) fnic driver has to be installed
Therefore, if you don't see your boot lun, either 1) and or 2) has to be fixed
    then
    4) only one path should be configured (e.g. fabric a), because no multipathing is available during installation, this is very important, and necessary for W2003, 2008 and 2012
    and
    5) if you see the boot lun, and can install, but the boot fails, the problem is the boot policy !
Very easy ! Good luck !

    2. Windows Server 2008 is not yet officially supported by CA Wily for the Enterprise Manager. If you want to install the Enterprise Manager anyway, set the "Windows 2003 compatibility mode" for the installer before launching it. To activate this mode, right click on the installer.exe file in the Windows Explorer, select tab "Compatibility", activate the check box for compatibility mode and select Windows 2003. If you do not set this, the installer will consider your OS as Unix and install shell scripts (no suffix) instead of batch files (.bat) and leave out some files for Windows Service registration.
If the windows service still fails to start please check if files ServiceWrapper.jar and ServiceWrapper.dll are present in folder lib. If not download them from attachment of this note.
The service should start although giving an error message regarding the ServiceWrapper.dll. You can ignore this error.
