Remove 2540 Second Controller?

I have a 2540 running firmware 06.70.54.10 via CAM 6.1.2.8
I need to install the baseline firmware on this array, however, the array at one time had a second controller and believes that it still has a second controller (which it does not).
The resulting array alarms combined with the fact that the array cannot reach the phantom second controller are preventing the baseline firmware installation.
I have tried inserting a second controller into the array and then offlining that controller and I have tried inserting the second controller and then removing (via Service Advisor) the second controller.
In each case the second controller is then physically removed from the array.
No matter what I do - including reregister with CAM, reset controller A, etc - the array thinks that controller B is present which is keeping me from installing the baseline because my array is generating alarms for the controller that doesn't exist.
Before opening a ticket with Sun I wanted to see if anyone had run into this before and what the solution might be for myself and anyone who runs into this.
Is there a way to force a 2540 to reinventory (I did a CRU inventory via Service Advisor) itself or to remove this reference to a second controller.
This is driving me absolutely bonkers.

We do not support the migration from two (duplex) to one (simplex) controller, however we support the migration from one to two controllers.
If you originally had two controllers on your array, you need to keep running with two controllers.

  • 2540 2nd controller offline issue

I see some others had the same issue but I don't see the solution.
The array is new. It has 2 controller boards and 12 disks. When the array is powered on controller B fails to configure. It looks like it is powering up but then the service light comes on and the ether port shuts down. If I remove controller A and insert controller B in its place it powers up but CAM can't find it and the serial service port is for the most part dead(set baud rate only).
Now if I remove all the disks and have controller B present the controller appears to be happy and is able to communicate with CAM. Now if I power off with B in A's slot and insert controller A into B's slot still with all the disks removed, at power on controller B offlines itself. I have tested this with another controller and the same thing happens.
It appears original controller A always captures the primary role and offlines the other controller regardless of the slot placement.

    -------ISSUE RESOLVED-------
This happens to be a configuration within the array. As it turned out SUN ships arrays as a single controller configuration or a dual controller configuration. If an array is ordered as a single config the array is preset to ignore the second controller. In my case the vendor sent us a single array configuration and a second controller to be installed.
To gain access to the second controller the array needs to be placed in a duplex controller setting. This can be done using the "SEVICE ADVISOR" of the CAM software. There is a section in the advisor for "X-Options" and in this section there is a topic of "Converting a Simplex Tray to a Duplex Tray". It will walk through the configuration change.

  • Adding a second controller

I have one 50 license wlan controller and have maxed out it licenses. I want to add a second controller and convert the remaining APs I have to lightweight. How do I setup the second controller will all the same SSIDS, WLANs, etc? Is there an automated way? I want clients to be able to roam across access points on the 2 different controllers without issues.

The 2nd controller will need to be setup with the same SSID's VLANS and so on. After your interfaces and ssid's are created you will need to setup a mobility group with both controllers for fast roaming.

Not quite sure what you are asking... but...
Settings > iTunes and App Store > Apple ID = Sign Out... Then Sign In using the preferred Apple ID.

  • Potential Downtime or Damage to Exchange if I remove a second domain controller??

We have a single instance of Exchange 2010 with all roles (minus lync, communications, etc..) on a Server 2008 Standard server.
We also have a primary domain controller and a second domain controller that offers DNS and would be used in case of disaster to the primary controller.
I've noticed in the past that if the secondary domain controller is down for maintenance that the Exchange server starts having problems. A major example of this would be last year the virtual instance of the second domain controller failed and when we rebooted
the exchange server, it lost its association with the domain even though the primary domain controller was readily accessible.
We are in a spot now that we no longer need the secondary domain controller and want to decommission it. I obviously want that to go as smoothly as possible. Is there anything I should do to prevent any unwanted damages to the exchange environment?
    Jonathan Strader

It doesn't seem that anyone has responded to this.  The short answer is turning off the secondary server will NOT have an effect on the exchange server.  HOWEVER, that is the short answer.
It WILL have an effect if:
    1) the secondary server is the ONLY DNS server and the exchange server is using the secondary server for DNS queries.
    2) The FSMO Roles are on the secondary server
    3) The Secondary server is the only global catalog.
I know this is a lot to take in.. but it really isn't that hard.  FSMO Roles and global catalog are just a piece of active directory that keeps track of users, rights, settings, that sort of thing.  You need to make sure that you seize the FSMO
roles on the first domain controller.
One command you can do on the first server to check fsmo roles is:
    netdom query fsmo
On a side note.  This is what you can do as well to see if the secondary server has any effect on exchange.  Ready?  Turn off the secondary server and see if anything bad happens (People don't get their emails..) if something stops working
after you turn off the second server then turn it back again.  Everything should be back to normal.

  • Remove a domain controller

I have SBS 2008 with a Windows Server 2008 SP2 server as a second domain controller.  I've added a new 2012 server and made it a domain controller.  I need to demote the 2008 box.  If I run dcpromo, it doesn't detect that it is a domain
controller and just wants to create a new one.  I notice that the AD DS service is not running, it is disabled.  When I try to start it, it just stops.  dsquery server shows all three as domain controllers.  What is the best way to remove
    this DC?

I have gone through the thread. Please check the following:
    1. Login to 2012 DC, and check "NTDS Settings" are not seen under 2008 DC in Active Directory Sites and Services snap-in
    2. Ensure that 2012 DC have all FSMO roles
    3. Do your clients point to 2008 DNS for resolution or 2012 DC for resolution? If they use 2008, plan to change them to 2012
    4. Ensure that 2008 DC doesn't run any other services like - WINS, DFS, DHCP, Certificate Services etc.
    5. Run repadmin /replsummary to see replication state for 2008 DC
Once the above are answered, I would suggest that you clean-up the Active Directory metadata by using NTDSUTIL on 2012 DC.
If there are any configuration issues with 2008 DC and it is not completely removed from the configuration then you could end up with having Lingering Objects in your environment and it might create more issues.
I suggest to clean-up AD before Tombstone period kicks in for 2008DC.

  • How do I remove a second iTunes account that pops up when update an app on my iOS device?

I used a second iTunes account a while back to buy apps. Now whenever I update my phone, it would ask for both accounts. I removed all the apps I bought from my 2nd account already and it would still ask for the 2nd account's password whenever I update apps on my phone. Im afraid that if i put the password on the 2nd account also that it might download/update the app using that and that I will be double billed. how do I stop this from happening? I don't mind not using the second Account at all anymore as I don't really have a lot of apps connected to it.

The apps were purchased with that iTunes account.
If you select an app, then right click - get info, it will show which account it was purchased with.

  • Removing my second start up disk

    Hello all,
I have two disks on my Macpro, and I have an old Lion (10.7) start up disk installed on the second hard drive that I'd like to remove. Anyone able to break down the steps to remove it?

The best thing to do that is to erase the disk (if it's this what you want). Open Disk Utility, select that Lion partition on the sidebar, go to Erase tab and erase the disk. Finally, that startup disk will disappear.
If you want to mean that your Mac is starting on that partition and you want to start by default on another one, open System Preferences > Startup Disk, and choose another partition

  • Adding a second controller - 3750G integrated WLC

    Hello all -
I'm new at this, so please bear with me.
I've been tasked to add a second WLC to a customer's network. They currently have a 4402-50 supporting 47 access points. The customer purchased a 3750G w/ integrated WLC (50AP) anticipating the addition of several more APs, but the addition is on hold. In the meantime, the customer would like the new WLC to help balance the AP load. The existing WLC is running 6.0.182.0. The customer has a mix of 1130, 1240, 1140 and 1250 APs. They are starting to use N features.
Both controllers are now on the same subnet 10.1.113.x. I've upgraded the code on the 3750G_WLC to match the other controller. Here are some questions I have now:
    1. Am I right to think I need to set these two controllers in the same mobility group?
    2. Am I right in thinking I will need to manually configure each AP to point to the controller I want it to be associated with? In other words, is there an AUTOMATIC load balancing feature? (NOTE: The customer just purchased and will have installed WCS)
    3. Once we exceed 50 APs, will any other configuration changes need to happen?
This is all a little sketchy for me because we are right at the limit. So.. right now we are N+1 asking to load balance between the two. Once we exceed 50 APs, we're no longer N+1 and will need to designate which APs are high priority in case of failover.
Any tips on installing this second WLC into the network and any recommendations you may have for managing these 47 existing APs is appreciated.
    Cheers -

So, when you define primary and secondary Controller, you specify the name of the controller. In 5.2 and above you also can specifiy the Management IP address of that controller. The AP will learn about these controller through the mobility group defined on the controllers.
About losing the controller, I didn't mean to configure priority after the fact. I meant that if you are trying to define priority (for the event that a controller was lost), then you would set the priority on the High Avail tab on the AP configuration. You would want to this when you install everything to begin with.
If you do not define primary/secondary, the AP should learn about the controllers from each controller, and when the controller sends its discovery replies, it should specify which one to load-balance to. Or something like that.
The bottom line is that if you don't have a primary/secondary defined, then the AP discovery process should get your AP on the least occupied controller. It is primary/secondary definitions that kind of overwrite this, which is what I was calling a "manual" load-balancing...
    Does that help any more?

  • Exchange server-Removing a Domain Controller from the forest

    Hi Guys,
I need some help on removing a faulty domain controller from the AD forest. Here is the scenario:
    1. The FSMO roles have been seized to a new domain controller already.
    2. The old one is non-functional and is down for ever.
I know the steps would be doing a meta-data cleanup And then remove some of the DNS entries related to the old server. But the real issue is:
    > I have Exchange 2013 running in one of the machines configured in the Forest, which was migrated from the old Domain controller. I then set Exchange listening to the new domain controller.
So, my doubt is, if I delete the old domain controller and do a metadata cleanup, would it have any effect on the exchange server? The Exchange machine acts as an additional domain controller as well. Its a production environment and any
change that affects Exchange would cause a big loss. Looking forward for your valuable suggestions..
    Regards,
    Nash

    Hi Ed,
I don't have issues with the AD on the Exchange server. Eventhough it is configured as an AD, Exchange is pointed to the main working domain controller, which is a different machine. I just want to remove the traces of an old domain controller from which
I transferred the FSMO roles to the new domain controller. The old  domain controller is completely down and hence I can't do a conventional 'dcpromo' on it. So just planning to do a 'metadata clean up' for removing the non-working DC from the forest.
So, In essence, I just want to know that, if I do a metadata cleanup, would it affect the Exchange server in any way?
    Regards,
    Nash

  • Remove a domain controller when dcpromo bombs

i'm trying to demote one server in a two server setup
i start dcpromo , it gets part way through and then bombs with an "Access is denied" error

So how can i fix that or delete the controller without using dcpromo

  • Inspiron 5548 logs out every time I add/remove a second monitor

I have a new Dell Inspiron 5548 running Windows 8.1, and I noticed every time I change the monitor configuration the system logs me out. This happens if I connect a new monitor and change the configuration from "duplicate" to "extend" or if I connect or disconnect a monitor that I'm using as a second display. Any thoughts? Maybe a graphics card issue?
The system has Intel HD Graphics 5500 and an AMD Radeon R7 M270 card (4 GB).

Awesome!  This worked for me as well.  My steps to get this Intel driver:
    1) Open Device Manager, select Display adapters, double click Intel HD Graphics 5500, go to Driver tab, click on Uninstall.  I did not click the "remove driver" option.  This operation logged me out.
    2) Login.  Open Device Manager and get to Display adapters as above.  Now I saw a Microsoft basic driver instead of the Intel HD5500 driver.  Double click it.  Select the "Update Driver" button.  Select the "Search automatically..." option.  It went out and found Intel HD Graphics 5500, v10.18.14.4156, 3/3/2015 and installed it.
What's frustrating is that if you simply go to the Display adapters and select "Update Driver" for the installed (and problematic) 2014 version of HD5500 driver, it tells you it is already up to date!  If you go to Intel site directly and download and run their Intel Driver Update Utility, it also doesn't indicate that a newer HD5500 driver exists.
    Such a time waste.
Oh, and that support ticket I filed last week?  Dell hasn't even assigned it yet.  Way to go Dell, thanks (not) for the assistance.

  • Reply-all removes my second pop account from recipients

    Hi All,
I use Mail with two POP accounts (mine and my wife's). If somebody sends an email to both me and my wife, when I try to Reply-All, my wife's email address is strangely removed from the recipients.
Same behavior if my wife does the reply-all, then my email address is stripped from the recipients list.
Any option I may miss ?
    thanks for your help.

    Florian,
You haven't missed anything -- it is a "feature" of Mail! Seriously, I have tested it, and sometimes I have seen it pick a second address (when two of my addresses are in the To) as the From when clicking on Reply on the same computer. The latter behavior is based upon the hierarchy of appear in the Sidebar, as best I can remember.

  • Why did they remove the second alert for Calendars ??

I saw that this software update has taken away the second alert that could be added to calendar entries ?
Why would they do that ?

    I see what happened.
    I added an exchange account.
It then changed my default calendar to the echange calendar, which does not accept 2 alerts.
    Thx

  • What note when remove an Domain controller from Existing Domain!!!

    Dear everybody,
My company has 3 Domain controllers at the moment.
all of them have some functions: DHCP, DNS.
Now, we have plan to remove an DC/
So, What note we need to pay attention when remove one of them?
    Thanks for your help!!!

    1. Migrate DHCP first. Using below command
netsh dhcp server export C:\dhcp.txt all       -old Server
netsh dhcp server import C:\dhcp.txt all       -New Server.
    2. Enable DNS debug log & see which client still pointing the old DC.
