Remove a remote lock

Hi! I lost my iPhone today while playing soccer. I used iCloud to remotely lock the iPhone and since my device is offline right now. As soon as I put on the lock, I realized that if the person who found my iPhone finds it locked, would they be able to connect to the internet? If they can't, could I remove the remote lock so it can connect to wifi manually and let iCloud track it? Also, my phone is under the AT&T carrier in the USA, and I am currently in China and will be staying there for a few months. I have no cellphone service so iCloud will only be able to track my iPhone via wifi.
Summarize this in bullet points for those who prefer a short explaination:
-Lost iPhone
-Remotely locked it
-Want to remove the remote lock but I do not have possession of the iPhone
-Can an iPhone connect to wifi even with remote lock on?
-No service (American carrier, in China, no international plan)
-Only able to track the iPhone via wifi
Thank you for reading this, I greatly appreciate you guys for helping me with this.

I am pretty sure the phone can connect to wifi if it is powered on.  The remote lock just prevents the person from using the phone in any normal way.  Of course they can just reset the phone completely and use it themselves without any of your data or settings.  If you don't get it back soon I would assume this has been done and to be safe you should contact your carrier about discontinuing service, as well as changing passwords on accounts just to be sure.

Help how to I remove the remote lock from my iphone. I thought you could set it just if you lost your phone. Any suggestions ? Thanks

Remote lock is different than the wipe on failed lock that is an option in the iPhone settings...remote lock is simple a Mobile Me feature that allows you to send a lock action to the iPhone that is no longer in your hands if you loose it or left it somewhere and you don't want people messing with it
Goto Settings > General > Passcode Lock > Ensure the Erase Data is OFF

I lost my iPad2 and through iCloud, put a remote lock on the device. I have since recovered the iPad2 and every time I open the device, when I 'Slide to Unlock' it requires the passcode to be entered. Is there a way to remove the password requirement?

Yea, just go into settings > general > passcode lock > type in your passcode > press the turn passcode off button, you will need to type your passcode one more time.

Go into Settings > General > Passcode Lock (you will need to re-enter the code to go into it) and you can then either Change Passcode or Turn Passcode Off

  • Remote lock & Memory card corrupted issue

Remote lock & Memory card corrupted issue
    Hi Dear Friends,
You might have experienced the "Memory card corrupted issue."
Don't panic! The solution is here!
Your memory card is just 'locked', it isn't 'corrupted'!
For sure, this post would be of great help to you, if:
    • You have enabled the "Remote lock" feature of your Nokia device.
    • You have sent the remote lock message to your device and locked it remotely.
Finding the solution really took me a lot of time. I was inspired by various posts on the Discussion, and decided to find the official notes on the issue. So would like to thank those who shared their tips, and helped us solve this problem.
I'm using E66, (you might use something else), and would refer to E51's and E65's User guide so often.
Of course, I'm not going to explain the instructions, and recommend you to refer to your user guides when needed.
On the contrary, I'm going to explain what may not be mentioned in your user guides.
    Let’s Begin
    What Has Happened:
In short, you attempted to test the feature, your phone was locked, you keyed in the lock code, code was accepted, you used the phone for a while, switched it off, powered it on, you were prompted the Lock code, you keyed in the lock code, code was accepted, you attempted to view some stuff that was on your memory card, you didn't find it, you tried to run a program that was installed on your memory card, the program icon didn't open, you put the memory card in the card reader and connected it to PC, it was not detected, you went to Menu> Tools> Memory card> You saw "Memory card corrupted"!
Don't, don't select the Yes selection key if you got the caution message, "Memory Card corrupted, reformat it?" because your memory card isn't corrupted, it's simply being locked!
But you can't find the unlock memory card command in Menu> Tools> Memory card> Options.
    So? What to DO?
    1. (This step is optional) Disable the Remote lock feature.
(Refer to your user guides) and change Allow Remote Lock> to no.
Then, while the unit is on,
    2. Press the power key briefly, and select Remove memory card.
    3. Remove the memory card from the slot.
    4. Press OK if prompted.
    5. Reinsert the memory card in the slot.
    6. Reopen Menu> Tools> Memory card.
Is your memory card detected? If yes!
    7. Follow tips number 2 & 3 of What to Know section below.
Did you get "Password removed" message?
If no, be careful of the case of the first character.
If you had changed the Remote lock message many times, use the one that was practically sent to the device via text message.
. In case you had set a password on your memory card before, you may also attempt to unlock the locked memory using your own password, not the first eight characters of the remote lock message.
Step seven would make the memory card detectable to the connected card reader to the PC too.
    8. The memory card is detected temporarily, but it is locked and the "memory card corrupted" issue reappears every time you switch off/on the phone, unless you successfully complete step seven.
    What to Know?
    Official User guide Tips:
    1. Remote locking also locks your memory card. (E51 page100)
. Yes, the one mobile phone that sends your device the predefined remote locking message, receives the confirmation message in response, indicating, "Mobile telephone and memory card are locked". But it isn't written in E66's and E65's.
    2. To unlock the memory card, select Menu> Tools> Memory> Options> Remove password, and "enter the remote locking message as the password". (E51 page100)
. Yes, quite clear, but the quoted part ("enter the remote locking message as the password") isn't written on my E66's User guide, and there's a vague precaution on E65's, (refer to number 4).
    3. If the message is longer than 8 characters, the first 8 characters are used as the memory card password. (E51 page100)
. Yes, quite clear good E51, but I don't own you; I have E66 your little sister. I owe my memory card's survival to nice users on the Discussion.
    4. The maximum number of characters allowed is 8. Using more than 8 characters could prevent unlocking the memory card and require reformatting it. If reformatting the memory card is required, all information on the card will be lost. (E65 page28)
. Quite interesting, but it contradicts what good E51 says in number three¡!
. And it contradicts my own experience of the issue (and some other users' on the Discussion) too, since my E66's memory card accepted the 'first eight characters' of the 'ten-character long’ remote lock message that I had previously used to remote lock it.
. The first three tips are quite important and shouldn't have been excluded from E66's and E65's user guides. I don't have the time to download and review all the user guides that support this feature, but at least I read some user manuals and also got the impression (from the posts on the discussion) that there had been not enough information on E66's, E65's, E71's, N96's, and some others.
You may like to do a simple search on Google:
"The first 8 characters are used as the memory card password" site:nokia.com
Since the content of the user guides on the server seem not be searchable for any reason, you won't find any official support result except those of the good users on the Discussions. And the 'Nokia Site Search" brings no result too. (At least on the date of this post).
¡ Terribly sorry for those who have selected Yes to the Reformat caution message. It wasn't your fault. But there's an idiom that says, sleep on it! "Think about it for a while before coming up with a decision".
But now that you have tested the feature and know its solution, don't be afraid, and enable the Remote lock feature again! God forbid, but it may be needed one day!

Dear, I guess, / This article doesn't suit your case. / • You have not enabled the "Remote lock" feature of your Nokia device. / • You have not locked your device remotely. / Because you don't know where the remote lock is and haven't played with its settings. / You need to explain what has happened. / The only thing we get is that your memory card doesn't open. / 1. your phone model, e.g., 5130. / 2. What did you do recently that might have caused this issue? / 3. What methods did you try to unlock it? / Use some of the tips provided above. (except number 1). / Yours

  • MacBook Pro is remote locked by iCloud

    Hello Everyone,
I was just trying out iCloud and the remote lock feature. When I start up my MacBook Pro Early 2011 I needed to enter a 4 digit key. I submit the same key but it says: "Wrong Password, Try again.". After a few times it did not unlock.
I tried a few things but they all failed:
    1. Trying to boot from CD and reinstall Lion (when I push the ALT key I get a remote lock screen)
    2. To remote the lock screen I tried to remove 1 RAM stick and push down CMD + ALT + P + R. Failed.
    3. Formated the Harddisk and tried to install with the Snow leopard CD (when I push C I get the blinking map with the question mark, when I push ALT I get the remote lock screen.)
Does someone has a solution for my problem?
    Thanks!

  • REMOTELY LOCKED IPHONE THRETENING

An abuser has thretened me , that he is going to lock my iPhone 5S remotely. Can anyone advise if this is possible? and how can I avoid that?

If he knows your AppleID and passcode, he can. Immediately change your passcode.
If he initiated Activation Lock and did not remove it before selling you the iPhone, he
can. Only solution is for him to remove the Activation Lock and then you set up the
    iPhone as yours.
If your iPhone is/has ever been jailbroken, may be possible. Since jailbreaking makes
unknown changes to the software, there is no guaranteed solution.
Report him and threats to local police. Did you purchase this iPhone used from him?

  • Lion and remote lock

This evening I was testing the remote lock feature of mobileme/icloud on my ipad and iphone just to see that it worked using the find my iphone app on my iPad 2.
I noticed that my Early 2011 Macbook Pro 13" running Lion 10.7.1 was showing under devices (presumably from when I installed a previous beta of icloud and forgot to remove it) so I tested the remote lock feature and entered a 4 digit pin and clicked lock. My Macbook pro then rebooted and asked to join a wifi network and then presented me with the pincode screen. So far so good, I was impressed that if I ever did leave or loose it somewhere this would help.
At the point I entered the pin is where my satisfaction dropped as it stated "Wrong passcode, try again" even though I know this is the passcode I set. My macbook pro is now a brick, I cannot get into recovery mode, boot from a cd, unlock. Can anyone give me any help and advice as to how I can reverse this and get back into my macbook? Will I have to call apple or is there a fix for this?
    Cheers
    Nick

    Hi MattToner,
I did resolve the problem but it wasnt a quick fix. Remote lock sets a variable in the PRAM that doesnt clear by holding Cmd Alt P and R. I made a bootable dvd of Lion but every time I booted it, it just went back to the remote lock screen.
I had to reinstall snow leopard by rebooting with the snowleopard cd in the drive and holding down alt, wiping the hard drive and doing a standard installation. Once I was booted into snow leopard, i opened the terminal app and typed the following to clear the nvram:
    sudo nvram -c
This will ask you for your password and then clear the nvram. Im guessing you could plug in a USB/Firewire hard drive and install Snow Leopard to that without messing with your lion install but havent tested so I couldnt tell you.
I then installed Lion which all went fine and I have been using my macbook pro on lion ever since (with remote lock disabled I might add!)
    Hope this works.

  • Can't remove the screen lock by PIN and can't use the screen to receive calls

Hello, I have a brand new SONY Xperia , Model Number D5803, Android version 5.0.2. , Baseband version 8974-AAAAANAZQ-00063-42, Kernel version 8974-perf-g3f600d1. , Build number 23.2.A.1.62.
I set a screen lock by PIN. However when I receive calls I can’t take them, because the screen in locked.
I tried to turn off the screen lock, but when I select the “ Screen lock” menu and after entering the correct PIN, the following items are not active “None”, “Slide” and “Pattern” . So I can't select  “None”
The only active items are “PIN” and “Password” .
Please advice how to remove the screen lock by PIN. I hope this will help to be able to receive calls.
    Thank you

To enable None and Swipe options, you need to go to Settings -> Security -> Clear credentials. Then those options will become active again.
However, you should be able to take calls even when you have PIN security, can you describe what shows on the screen when you have an incoming call while screen is locked?
A proud Sony User since 2002
If I was helpful to you, thank me by Kudos

  • Why do I get a blinking folder with a question mark after remote locking my Macbook?

    Hi,
I wanted to try the remote lock feature of iCloud.
I remotely locked my 17 inch Mid 2009 MacBook Pro. I received the confirmation email stating that the machine had indeed been locked.
When I went to the machine to unlock it, I was surprised to see a grey screen with a blinking folder. I had expected to see a place for me to enter my PIN. Rebooting the machine revealed the folder again.
What is going on? Did sometihng go wrong resulting in my somehow wiping my hard drive?
Thanks in advance for any help on this.

  • My iPhone 4s was stolen this weekend and I did the Remote Lock.  What exactly does that do?  Also, if i do the Remote Wipe will that erase all of my data and impede anyone from ever using the phone?

My iPhone 4s was stolen this weekend and I did the Remote Lock.  What exactly does that do?  Also, if i do the Remote Wipe will that erase all of my data and impede anyone from ever using the phone?

The remote lock locks the iphone with a passcode that you set. By remote wiping the device it will simply restore it and clear it of all its data, but by doing this it will prevent you tracking it and communicating with it (e.g. remote locking it) in the future

  • Forgot passcode for remotely locked MacBook. What should I do now?

I just wanted to try out the new "find my mac" feature in iCloud, so I remotely locked my MacBook Pro from my iPod touch. But when I tried to unlock my Mac, it didn't accept the code. Actually I'm quite shure that it's the right code, but it just says "Wrong passcode. Try Again.".
Is there anything that I can do to unlock my MacBook (I also have a TimeMachine backup on an external hard drive).
