Remove ADC port, add second DVI to G5??
Is it possible to remove the ADC port from my dualG5 and replace it with a second DVI port?
I want use a second monitor with my system - Any suggestions on how to accomplish this would be most appreciated. I already have a 20"cinema display attached.
Many, many thanks.
You can't just change the port. You have to replace the graphics card with one with two DVI ports. You won't like the price (even though they are on sale).

These cards have two dual-link DVI ports, so they can be used with 30" displays. They are double width, so they cover the first PCI slot.

Don't want ADC port/just 2 DVI's!!!
Sirs & Madams:
Point me to a video/graphics card with 2 DVI ports. Sick of adaptors that don't work. Simply want 2 monitors for video editing. I have both and have spent WAY too much on quick fixes. New video card...2 DVI ports...NO ADC display ports!
G5 dual. AGP. Just over a year old.

Connecting DVI Monitor to the ADC port
I have a G5 with dual video ports. One is an ADC Port and the other is a DVI port. I want to get rid of my Apple display and connect two Dell monitors both of which have a DVI connectors. How do I connect a DVI connector to the ADC port? The DVI to ADC adapter is for connecting a ADC Apple display to a DVI port. Is there an adapter for doing the opposite--a DVI plug to a ADC port?
Power Mac G5 Mac OS X (10.4.9)The ADC to DVI adapter is for connecting a DVI LCD to the ADC port. It cannot be used with a DVI to VGA adapter to connect a VGA display to an ADC port. For that you need an ADC to VGA adapter, such as:
<http://www.mac-pro.com/s.nl/it.A/id.230/.f?sc=2&category=128>
These are becoming scarce as the ADC is no longer being manufactured.
Your Sun monitor should work from the ADC port using the ADC to DVI adapter, and the Fujitsu from the DVI port using the DVI to VGA adapter. -
How can I add a second DVI port to my G5
I just want to be able to use two monitors but my computer has one dvi and one adc port is there a card I can buy that has two dvi ports?
I had been thinking about the same thing however to use the ADC port not buy another video card. I don't know if these would work but checkout the links below.

You will need to purchase and use a USB-to-video adapter such as the EVGA UV Plus+ UV39 (or any of the many other adapters on the market) to connect an external display to your computer. I personally use and recommend the EVGA UV Plus+ UV39.

For Malcolm Rayfield, or anyone who knows about VGA/DVI/ADC ports
I gave up on my Apple Monitor and bought a new 19" LCD flatscreen, but I'm getting a lot of ghosting from my windows and text which stretches the length of the screen in both directions.
The monitor came with both a DVI port and a VGA port, whereas my Mac G4 has a VGI and an ADC port. So right now I'm connected through the VGA port, and I'm guessing that's what's causing the ghosting.
I'm wondering, then, if I'd be better off with an adapter that connects a DVI cable to my VGA port, or one that connects the DVI cable to my ADC port. If either will work, then I'll probably opt for whichever is cheaper.
By the way, I'm now getting my sound through the new monitor, and I'd like to go back to the speaker on my G4, which sounds far better. Hopefully someone can address that issue as well. The ghosting is a grey line which matches the height of a given font, or any other image that appears on the desktop. These lines run the full width of the screen, and if I move the window, they move with it.
I made a screen capture, in the off chance that it can provide an illustration. It's impossible for me to tell from this computer, but I figured it was worth a shot.

ATI X800XT is adc port same dvi signal as the dvi port
For starters, what does "adc" stand for? Does it mean the adc is an analog port needing conversion to digital for display to an apple cinema display? someone at apple just said it stands for apple display connection. Yes, I know I still need an adapter, but I'm wondering if this port is inferior the the dvi port on the card. I don't know if the adaptor is just changing the physical hardware connections, or something else.
I want to go from the adc port thru an adc/dvi adaptor to the matrox mxo box, out of the mxo to apple hd 23" display. I need to reserve the other graphics port (dvi) to go thru a dvi/vga adaptor to my vga monitor.
Is the adc port on the card the same as the dvi port in terms of the type and quality of signal? What is the adc port anyway? The video quality should not be compromised by using any of these adapters. The ADC outputs the same exact digital signal as the DVI outputs. The ADC-to-DVI adapter basically discards the USB and power features and passes the digital AND analog signals through.
As mentioned above, both ADC and DVI also carry analog video signals. Using a DVI-to-VGA adapter, an ADC-to-VGA adapter, or a combination of both will allow you to use an analog VGA monitor from either port on your video card, again with no degradation of the signal.
If you are missing any or all colors or the signal is degraded in some way, you must have a bad connection, bad adapter, or bad cable. Try reconnecting or replacing each part one at at time to determine the culprit.
As for the problem of non-matching DVI connectors, check the link below to determine which ones you have and which ones you need. There are pictures of each connector on this page:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DigitalVisualInterface
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AppleDisplayConnector
You should be able to find an adapter (or gender changer) that matches up to your cable. A web search should give you plenty of sources and options. You may try a place like Cyberguys.com: http://www.cyberguys.com/ (Search for "DVI gender" to see all available adapters.)
With quality cables and adapters, you should be able to achieve what you are trying to do with no signal degradation to each of your monitors. Let me know how it goes.

Dual Display on Early 2005 Powermac G5 - Second DVI Port bad?
Hi
I've just bought a second display for my Powermac and can't get it to work. Monitors OSD says no DVI signal and i get a blank screen on second display. Main display is still fine.
System Profiler recognises that second monitor is attached and SysPref/Displays thinks that there are two monitors attached.
Monitor & cable definitley good as they work when I swap them round.
Monitors are Sony SDM-S75D & S74. Graphics card is an ATI Radeon 9600.
I've not used the second DVI port since I bought the Mac new a two years ago, so it may never have been good.
I've tried:
Known good tft display
Known good dvi cable
Reseat cables
PMU reset
NVRAM reset
Open firmware reset-all
Checked for updated drivers.
Before I look at buying a new graphics card, is there anything I haven't tried yet?
Cheers
GarethOK, this is odd.
In desperation after finding out the price of a new graphics card;
my sony tfts are dual input dvi and vga. so i dug out the dvi to vga connector that came with the mac. Now running the second monitor via dvi to vga converter and its ok. not as sharp an image as the dvi main monitor, but ok. will still have to buy a new graphics card sometime.
So dvi to vga works on 2nd port, but not dvi to dvi!! -
How do I connect a new Thunderbolt MBP to and old 23" HD Cinema Display ADC port
A question Im sure many have asked but I cant find a straight forward answer.
I simply will be buying a new thunderbolt MBP 15 and NEED to connect it an old 23" Apple Cinema Display that uses the old ADC connector.
Can I do it and if so how? I realise theres a potential under powering issue?
ThanksHello Sigh
I am sure there is no way to get your ADC connector display to function with your new Mac Book Pro.
I tried everying I could and gave up and purchased a 24" Apple refurbbished Cinema Display for $599 + tax on 4/27/2011. The Apple part number is FBXXXXL/A, Model A1287.
Gave my year 2002 ADC 22" display to a friend.

Re: How do I connect a new Thunderbolt MBP to and old 23" HD Cinema Display ADC port Jul 8, 2011 4:58 PM (in response to Russy47)
Got my new MBP 2011 today. Hooked it up to my 23" Apple Cinema Display fine, using the Apple DVI to ADC converter > Mini Display port adaptors. I could then mirror display, but only at 1440 x 900 resolution.
My dream is to have it like my old laptop--I mostly leave it shut, and main display is on the Cinema Display. So far, if I close the laptop lid on my new MBP, display shuts off. Also, can't get it to bump up the resolution to 1920.
Sigh. -
Can the output from ADC port power a HDTV
This is part of my other post http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2222857&tstart=0
*I've been told that the output from an ADC port is not sufficient to power a HDTV.*
I have my ADC port connected by a ADC/DVI adaptor cable to a HDMI port on my HDTV.
Is this correct?
Can anyone confirm it?This is the update for some NVIDIA cards.

Remove menu bar from second monitor maverick
Hi, Can i Remove menu bar from second monitor maverick ?
ThanksApple has sort of screwed up the whole full-screen / multi-screen features of OSX. I get it's hard to achive it all in a "perfect way" for everyone but the so called "improved" multi-screen features of 10.9 add a number of issue on top of the "fixes".
1. Switching between apps with CMD + TAB is bugged with using 10.9 screen-setup. The OS doesn't understand what screen I'm using and the CMD + TAB feature shows up on screen 1 or screen 2. The only way I've found to controll this is by activating the DOCK on either screen which is a very bad solution.
2. Spotlight searching always follows the "active" screen. At least 10.9 understands what screen is my active one but in this case I never ever want screen 2 to have Spotlight on it. Very irriting.
3. Remembering application positions. If I open an app from the dock on screen 1, place it on screen 2 close it and again open it from the dock on screen 1 the app will open on screen 1 and not screen 2. Some apps will remember certain windows on the correct display. A solution is to open the app from the dock on the display you want it on. Very irritiating.
4. Swiching between apps is also bugged. Concider I have mail on screen 2 and a new mail window on screen 1. I CMD + TAB to Safari on screen 2 after starting to write the new mail on screen 1. No problems here. If I now howvever CMD + TAB back to mail, the last active window (new mail window on screen 1) won't be active. Very irritating.
As noted above, going back to what we had in 10.7 and 10.8 solves these issues but doesn't solve Apples horrible fullscreen app issues. I'd go as far as saying Apple hasn't really fixed anything in 10.9 - only cause more issues and confusing behavoir. Fullscreen apps are often very lacking in funktion, having safari or mail fullscreen renders them on a large screen very very limited compared to "maximized". It's also very confusion that you are required to travel between virtual desktops to use full-screen apps. I personally would prefer the option of "layered fullscreen apps". For example VLC allows me to work this way. -
Unable to use ADC port on 5200FX
I have a Dual 1.8Ghz Powermac with a 5200FX.
I recently got an ADC to DVI adapter and cannot use it.
When I connect a monitor to the ADC port(It's a DVI LCD) OSX recognizes it, sees it's resolution, but there is no image on the screen.
When it's just the ADC-DVI setup, not my ADC-DVI + DVI-VGA setup that I'd ideally like to have working, I still don't get an image on my LCD.
Help?
TiA!I don't know why your ADC to DVI display isn't working, but ADC to DVI adapter followed by DVI to VGA is always unlikely to work because most ADC to DVI adapters don't pass the analog signals needed for VGA. You should use an ADC to VGA adapter to connect a VGA display to a ADC port.

Is there provision to add second internal Hard disk to 17-e117dx
Hi,
Please can you let me know, if there is provision to add second internal hard disk to HP Pavilion 17-e117dx.
If yes, a) are there any requirments or the specifications of Hard disk (any make or model); b) what other hardware will be required and where I can get it from and c) lastly will doing so make my HP laptop warranty void
HP Pavilion
Product: F9J38UA#ABA
Model: 17-e117dx
Thanks
This question was solved.
View Solution. Not in the way you probably envision. Here is the Service Manual:
Manual
See Page 50. Unlike the Envy 17 and Pavilion dv7, the Pavilion 17 has only one hard drive bay. The only way to add a second hard drive is to remove the DVD (optical drive) and insert a DVD bay hard drive adapter. The Manual shows how to remove the DVD drive and you can buy the adapter at amazon.com or from jacobsparts.com. Note it is a 9.5 mm thick drive, not a 12.7 mm. Both types are available. I do not recommend the DVD drive adapter solution because you lose the use of the optical drive and also because the optical drive interface is usually not as fast as the main hard drive interface. Still fast enough for simple storage and you can run a video from it but you would not want to edit video from that drive, for example.
https://www.jacobsparts.com/items/HDDBAY-02/
If you do decide to go the DVD adapter route I would buy a large capacity 5400 rpm SATA 2.5 inch wide and 9.5 mm thick hard drive. No sense in buying a more expensive high performance drive.

4-Port IOGear KVM (DVI, USB) and Radeon 9600 Pro (dual G5) Problem
I recently bought a 4-port KVM with DVI video and USB support for keyboard and mouse. I have the KVM hooked up to my dual processor G5 with DVI, to the ATI Radeon 9600 Pro video card in it. When I switch between my Windows Vista PC and my Mac (both running 85hz refresh rate and 1280x1024 resolution), the video is fine on the PC, but the Mac video is first initialized at 800x600 at 60hz. After about 3 seconds, it switches to 1280x1024 at 85hz, but this screws up my program views. I run Final Cut Express HD and DVD Studio Pro 2.0 and the windows in these programs are totally messed up. I have tried updating the drivers to the newest one from ATI, leaving the KVM on until Mac OS X Tiger is totally booted up to my desktop, before switching to one of my PCs, and updating the firmware on the KVM. Has anyone else had this problem? Any ideas to correct this problem? Thank you for your help!
Problem solved.....I used a little shareware program called SwitchResX:
http://www.madrau.com/html/SRX/About.html
Fabulous little problem solver. You can set up custom resolutions of just about any dimension, although I only tested my needed resolution, and magically once you restart the machine, the resolutions are available in the Display preferences pane. If the display doesn't look right at first, i.e. shifted to the left or right, keep playing with it and perhaps switch back to a different resolution and then back to your custom res and all should be well. 75 Mhz as a refresh rate seemed to make my video card and the monitor happiest.

I just bought a 12 core with Quatro 4000 and 5770, I want to use dual monitor setup, monitors are NEC with Spectraview-II. How do I connect? 4000 only has 1 Display Port and 1 DVI. 5770 has 2 of each, if I use both 5770 Display Ports, does the 4000 contribute any work at all? I read where on a PC they would work together, but on a MAC they do not.
I read that Display Port has higher band width than DVI, NEC monitors for best performance they recommend using DIsplay Port.
When I was setting this up I looked at a Nvidia Quadro 4000, unfortunately it was for PC, it had 2 Display Ports, in the Mac version they reduce it to one. I did not think there could be a difference.
Mainly want to use it for CS6 and LR4.
How to proceed???
I do not want to use the Quadro 4000 for both, that would not optimize both monitors, one DP and 1 DVI. Using just the 5770 would work but I do not think the 4000 would be doing anything, and the 5770 has been replaced by the 5870.more bandwidth.
Any ideas, I am a Mac newbie, have not ever tried a Mac Pro, just bought off ebay and now I have these problems.
As a last resort I could sell both and get a 5870. That would work, I'm sure of that, it's just that I wanted the better graphics card.
Thanks,
BillThe Hatter,
I am a novice at Mac so I read all I can. From what I understand the NEC monitors I bought require Display Port for their maximum performance. The GTX 680 only has DVI outputs. Difference from what I understand is larger bandwidth with the DP.
You said I have the 4000 for CUDA. I am not all that familiar with CUDA and when I do read about it I do not understand it.
A concern I have is, that if I connect the 2 high end NEC monitors via the 5770, using it's 2 Display Ports I would have nothing connected to the 4000. Is the 4000 doing anything with nothing connected? I read where in a PC system the 2 cards would interact but in a Mac system they do not.
Bottom line, as I see it, the 4000 will not be useful at all to me, since I want a dual monitor set-up.
So far the 5870 seems the best choice, higher band width than the 5770, and it has 2 Display Ports to optimize the NEC monitors.
I'm not sure how fine I am splitting hairs, nor do I know how important those hairs are. I am just trying to set up a really fast reliable system that will mainly be used for CS6 and LR4. Those NEC monitors are supposed to be top notch.
