Remove all disks for offline storage

Hello
I was wondering if I can remove all disks (4 in RAID10) to have an offline storage. If I remove all RAID disks and replaced them with new ones, I have to configure the RAID again? And after that, if I remove the second set of disks and replace them the first set of disk retired, can I go to access the original data? Thank You

  • Any way to remove all "apps" for all users?`

I get that the new start menu is a compromise, and it's neat that it's "back."
What I'm not clear on, is if it's possible to remove/hide the "apps" for all users.
I'm not keen on having all users have all of these, especially in a corporate environment.
Would be preferable to have none, except for perhaps what's "allowed" by admins.
Standard office users, power users, devs, artists, accountants, most folks at work simply don't have a use for most of these apps. I also don't want bandwidth constantly being used by any of the live tiles. If a user wants to know the weather, they can go to
weather.com. If they want news, this is also available via any number of sites.
The other compromise of having apps "windowed" is also nice, but for an office environment, I just don't see people firing up a sandboxed calculator app (or, any of the other built-in ones).
Sorry, but honestly, I'd honestly just like to know if it's possible to set up a GPO, or use some other method to get the "apps" out of the way of the "standard office user."

    Hi techresource0,
Use export-startlayout cmdlet to export the start menu configuration first:

Windows 10 Technical Preview has a new policy under start menu  and taskbar:
Meanwhile, I have two thoughts on this if you are planning your environment:
    One: a customized image.
    Two: customize default profile.
For the first thought, you can uninstall all provisioned windows store app and then deploy this image to your environment. Of course, you can do this in an online system as well.

  • Use BD disk for data storage?

A blue ray disk can hold 25gb  of data as opposed to a DVD 4.7gb.
Is there any way I can store standard original footage AVI from an old DV camera via firewire on a BD disk and use it later on for
archive or editing some time in the future?
That way I could store a whole DV tape on a BD disk.

Yes. Use a program, like the great, free ImgBurn to do BD-Data discs. Just Copy your files/folders to the blank disc.
You might want to see this ARTICLE, however. Just something, possibly potential, to think about.
    Good luck,

  • The back button won't activate till the second change. I have uninstalled and removed all directories for firefox still won't work after reintall

I have firefox 3.6 installed and have been using it for years. All the sudden last week the back button wouldn't work till I go to the second web address change. For example if I start at forums.sagetv.com and select a post I can't hit the back button till I select another article. I have uninstalled firefox deleted all the directories, rebooted and reinstalled the problem still comes back.

I started having this EXACT same issue a few day ago. I found out that it was the McAfee site advisor causing the problem. Click the Tools drop-down and select add-ons. In the add-ons window, click the Extensions panel. Select McAfee and disable it.
    Hope this helps, Arielle!

  • External hard disk for general storage?

I'm considering buying an 80gb iPod. Just
wondering if it can be used as an external
hard drive, for example, to store movie
files created with Final Cut? Or just
as a back up drive for a MacBook?

Yes, you can "enable disk mode" on it and it will show up in the Finder as a normal hard drive. Any space not being used by iTunes to store you iPod playable music, vids, etc. can be used for anything you want just like a normal hard drive.
I recently backed up my digital photos onto my 80GB in the disk drive section.

  • I contacted support and asked to remove all activations for my product. Some software was installed on a computer that I can't use anymore. The computer is still in use but I never deactivated it or uninstalled it.

Basically, how long will this person be able to use my software until the activation updates?

That isn't how it works.  Even if Support reset your activation count, products that have been activated previously will remain activated.  (Unless it's a CC product, which requires regular re-activation.)

If the latter then you can do this by running the following on the messaging server:
    ./mboxutil -d user/<uid>/INBOX
If the former, this isn't actually easy and would require deleting emails off disk and then running a reconstruct on the account.

  • Doubts about shared disk for RAC

    Hi All,
I am really new to RAC.Even after reading various documents,I still have many doubts regarding shared storage and file systems needed for RAC.
1.Clusterware has to be installed on a shared file system like OCFS2.Which type of hard drive is required to install OCFS2 so that it can be accessed from all nodes??
It has to be an external hard drive???Or we can use any simple hard disk for shared storage??
If we use external hard drive then does it need to be connected to a seperate server alltogether or can it be connected to any one of the nodes in the cluster???
Apart from this shared drives, approximately what size of hard disk is required for all nodes(for just a testing environment).
    Sincerely appreciate a reply!!
    Thanks in advance.

Clusterware has to be installed on shared storage. RAC also requires shared storage for the database.
Shared storage can be managed via many methods.
    1. Some sites using Linux or UNIX-based OSes choose to use RAW disk devices. This method is not frequently used due to the unpleasant management overhead and long-term manageability for RAW devices.
    2. Many sites use cluster filesystems. On Linux and Windows, Oracle offers OCFS2 as one (free) cluster filesystem. Other vendors also offer add-on products for some OSes that provide supported cluster filesystems (like GFS, GPFS, VxFS, and others). Supported cluster filesystems may be used for Clusterware files (OCR and voting disks) as well as database files. Check Metalink for a list of supported cluster filesystems.
    3. ASM can be used to manage shared storage used for database files. Unfortunately, due to architecture decisions made by Oracle, ASM cannot currently be used for Clusterware files (OCR and voting disks). It is relatively common to see ASM used for DB files and either RAW or a cluster filesystem used for Clusterware files. In other words, ASM and cluster filesystems and RAW are not mutually exclusive.
As for hardware--I have not seen any hardware capable of easily connecting multiple servers to internal storage. So, shared storage is always (in my experience) housed externally. You can find some articles on OTN and other sites (search Google for them) that use firewire drives or a third computer running openfiler to provide the shared storage in test environments. In production environments, SAN devices are commonly employed to provide concurrent access to storage from multiple servers.
    Hope this helps!

  • How to uninstall Disk for iPhone (x2) ?!?!

someone already posted about this, but that thread is archived.  I'm new to mac and wanted my iphone to behave similar to that on a PC in the sense that it can be browsed via windows explorer to batch capture photos, etc. I installed MacFuse and Disk for iPhone, but now my macbook freezes whenever I plug it in. I tried to remove the Disk for iPhone program, but to no avail. It's probably a simple answer and I'm doing something wrong. Here is what I'm trying:
    MacBook-Air:~ urbanrobots$ sudo "/Volumes/Disk\ for\ iPhone/uninstall.sh"
    Password:
    sudo: /Volumes/Disk\ for\ iPhone/uninstall.sh: command not found
    MacBook-Air:~ urbanrobots$ /Volumes/Disk\ for\ iPhone/uninstall.sh
    Stopping org.thebends.iphonedisk.mobile_fs_util
    Unloading /Library/LaunchAgents/org.thebends.iphonedisk.mobile_fs_util.plist
launchctl: Couldn't stat("/Library/LaunchAgents/org.thebends.iphonedisk.mobile_fs_util.plist"): No such file or directory
    nothing found to unload
    Removing /Library/LaunchAgents/org.thebends.iphonedisk.mobile_fs_util.plist
    Removing /Library/iphonedisk
this should work, no? but it's not finding the volume, so I'm a bit confused as to how to remove this program.....

Contact the developer for help in removal. You've mucked up your system trying to make a Windows machine out of your new Mac. Let the Mac do it's thing the way it's designed and get away from Windows.

  • Looking for additional storage to attach to xserve

I have a client that has filled up the space on their xserve. They would like to add a firewire 800 drive for additional storage. They cannot afford the Promise products. Does anyone have a recomendation? I would prefer if the additional storage was at least Raid 1. We have looked at everything from WD Raid 1 externals to Drobo. Reliablity is more imprtant than performance for now.
Message was edited by: harlan Lax

You will not get the performance from the Sonnet cards -especially in a RAID configuration- that you would expect. Those cards employ 'port multipliers' and any RAID configuration will be through software. You would better serve your client with an Areca product such as one of these:
    http://www.areca.com.tw/products/externalx.htm
as these employ a dedicated hardware I/O processor and do support EFI booting on Intel XServes. They are not cheap, around $600US from Newegg for the 1120ML, but they are not as expensive as a VTrak, either. Also, when buying disks for the storage array, avoid bulk OEM desktop class drives and invest in server class products such as the Western Digital RE3 or RE4 series drives.

  • Storage Spaces - Remove Physical Disk from Simple layout

I am running Server 2012 RTM with a single storage pool containing 4 drives - 2.73TB, 1.36TB, 465GB and 148GB. There is a single virtual disk created, with thin provisioning, using the Simple layout, with a current maximum size of 2.73TB, and with 1.32TB
allocated. I want to remove the 148GB drive and replace it with a 465GB drive. When I right-click the 148GB disk and select Remove, I get a warning that Windows will attempt to rebuild any virtual disks that store data on the disk I'm trying to remove, and
that in order to succeed, the storage pool must have enough free space to accommodate the data from the disk I'm trying to remove. There is more than enough space in the virtual disk to accommodate whatever files may be stored on the 148GB disk - over 1TB
unallocated. However, when I confirm that I want to remove the disk from the pool, I get the following message:
This physical disk is used by one or more virtual disks that use the Simple (no resiliency) layout. To remove this physical disk, delete the following virtual disks: Simple
Surely the fact that it's a simple volume (rather than mirrored/parity) shouldn't affect the ability to move the data off the disk? It appears that disk removal is implemented as a simulated drive failure, forcing a rebuild of the resiliency data, rather
than by simply moving the data off the disk onto other available disks.
Additionally, after I've attempted to remove the disk, it's now been marked as 'Retired'.
Is there any simple way to remove this disk?

Same problem here, but I have some workaround for the problem.
But, even in Windows Home Server with its awesome disk extender (predecessor of Storage Spaces) you had to take the shares (meaning volumes in our case) offline so you could take out the disk from the pool.
Agree that it would make more sense to be able to remove disk from the pool online and the technology is most likely is already there: online cluster moves with defragmentation API was there for years and ReFS moves clusters online when it detects disk errors.
Anyway here is the process that may work for you if taking volume offline is an option in your case:
Try to remove physical disk in Server Manager - it will fail with abovementioned error, but the disk will go into "Retired" state.
Now provision a new Virtual Disk and a volume of your choice. Most likely you will pick the same disk and volume type as you already had, but this is the chance to change the topology. You should be able to do this since you have a lot of physical disk
space, especially if you used Thin provisioning.
It looks like at this point retired physical disk is not included into the new Virtual Disk provisioning, but it is still accessible via existing virtual disk.
Copy over all files from your old volume to a new volume.
    Now delete old Virtual Disk.
If you want - change disk name and volume letter of new virtual disk that you created and new volume to what you had before.
Now in Disk Manager take failing physical disk offline.
Replace failing disk, initialize new disk and add it to the pool.
Note: for me sometimes removing disk in via Storage Pool management GUI does not mark it as "Retired". In this case you can open PowerShell as Admin and assuming you want to remove PhysicalDisk2 - run the following command:
    Set-PhysicalDisk -FriendlyName PhysicalDisk2 -Usage Retired

  • How to remove User IDs for deleted users from the Disk Quota list

    Hello,
We have a computer lab setup with an Xserve managing 15 stations in the lab. Users are setup with networked home directories and quota's are setup on the drive containing the home directories to limit users' storage.
The user account and the quota limit are setup with Workgroup Manager. When a student has been gone for a while and we are sure they no longer need the account we delete their account within Workgroup Manager and move their Home folder to the trash.
When viewing disk usage in Server Admin (by selecting the volume and clicking the Quatas tab) user ids for deleted users are listed and it still shows the disk usage and quota settings for the user.
How can I remove theses user ids from the quota list?
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • How to remove a hard disk file on storage

    Hello,
In my process, I would like to remove an additional disk.
To achieve that task, I have found "Remove VM device". It is a VMware box that I can use to remove any device (including Hard disks) and I have not found another box to do that.
But file on storage is not deleted, only the logical disk on the VM is removed.
So I was wondering if there could be another way to remove also the file on the storage?
Is a “dedicated” remove Hard disk vmware box exists in Tidal versions greater to 2.3.1?
    thank you.
    Best regards,
    Nicolas

There is no specific "Remove Hard Disk" activity in 2.3.1 or the upcoming 2.3.4.
Have you tried the PowerCLI command "Remove-HardDisk"? If that works for you, in 2.3.1 you can use a Windows PowerShell activity to run PowerCLI and execute a simple script that runs this command against the VM. Unfortunately, this requires connecting to vCenter directly (not through the adapter) and you will need to supply credentials.
Or, better, use the "Execute PowerCLI Script" activity in the upcoming 2.3.4 VMware Adapter.. where you can run PowerCLI activities that use your existing VMware vCenter Server target's connection and don't need supply credentials separately.
