If the latter then you can do this by running the following on the messaging server:
./mboxutil -d user/<uid>/INBOX
If the former, this isn't actually easy and would require deleting emails off disk and then running a reconstruct on the account.

Click on the inbox then Edit>Select All (if you are using Mail, if not you'll have to tell us which mail program you use) repeat in other mailboxes as needed.

Can't see 'All Messages' in inbox

Hi everyone,
Something really annoying has happened since i updated to ios7. I can no longer see all the messages from my 6 accounts merged into into one mailbox. Instead, I have to go to each different inbox to see the messages, whereas before there was an option to see 'all messages' or 'all mailboxes.

Welcome to the Support Communities!
The functionality of viewing All Inboxes has not changed from iOS 6 to iOS 7.
Take a look at the screenshot from the iOS 7 User guide below.
In this example, the user is looking at an inbox from one specific email account.
Notice the blue Mailboxes link in the top left corner of the screen.
When you tap on Mailboxes on your device, the new screen should have the title Mailboxes at the top and All Inboxes should be the first item on the list.
If you scroll down to the bottom of the screen, you will see your Accounts listed, and you can choose to open a specific email account to look at its Inbox or Sent mailbox.

Mac Mail - Forward Symbol Appearing On All Messages In Inbox??

My mac mail app has started automatically adding the forwarded mail symbol (small right-pointing arrow) on all messages that I receive within my inbox. When I click on the forward symbol, I also get an error stating 'Error - Mail was unable to find your reply to the message “XXX”. You may have deleted the message.'. This is correct because even though the messages have the forward symbol...they have never actually been forwarded or replied to which explains why Mail can't locate the forwarded message. I have tried rebullding my inbox both through the 'Mailbox / Rebuild' menu command as well as by deleting the envelope index file within the Library/Mail/V2/MailData folder and still the problem persists.
I have 3 separate IMAP email accounts set-up within mail and this bug is happening on all messages received in my inbox. The forward arrow is also appearing on the messages when I view them in Mail on my iPhone or iPad but only after the arrow was added to the message within Mail on my Macbook Pro. In other words, when I receive messages in my inbox on my iPhone or iPad, the arrow does not get added so it'se defintely a bug with the Mail app on my Macbook Pro.
Any feedback/advice would be greatly appreciated as it's very annoying having all of my email messages marked with the forward symbol!!

Thanks for the update. I guess it would be great if both Apple and MS come up with a solution for this issue as it is very critical. Please keep me posted if hear from them.

Reindex mailboxes. To do so, quit Mail and, in the Mail folder in your home Library folder, move the Envelope Index file and any folders that begin with "Mac-", "Exchange-", or "IMAP-" to a different location, such as your desktop. When you open Mail, it reindexes all messages in local mailboxes or POP folders and re-downloads all messages from the mail server. This process can take several minutes depending on how many messages are in your mailboxes.
For a POP account, reimport mailboxes. To do so, choose File > Import Mailboxes, and then choose "Mail for Mac OS X." In the Mail folder in your home Library folder, select the folder that begins with "POP-" (for example, [email protected]). If the problem persists, try again, this time choosing "Other" and then selecting the affected mailbox itself (for example, Library/Mail/POP- [email protected]/Inbox.mbox).

Remove all messages

When setting up my email account on my new phone, over 2,000 messages downloaded into mu inbox. How do I remove them without having to remove them all individually?

There is no bulk delete option for the inbox, only for Trash. The "easiest" way is to select Edit, individually select each email, then select Delete.
If this is an IMAP or Exchange account, best to go to a computer email client which supports bulk inbox delete and do it there - they will be deleted from your phone inbox as well.

I get my email via Gmail using POP. For several months I have noticed that I can only download about 11 messages at a time, even if more are on the server. I have to rehit "Check mail" button until I get them all. It is rather annoying and sometimes leads to me missing messages that should have been downloaded. I cannot figure out how to fix this. I went to the Genius Bar and they could not figure it out. I have trashed the prefs files and that does not help. If I set up a new User it works fine, so clearly there is something awry in my User account or Mail folder, but I have too much organized and setup in Mail to just start afresh. Any help or advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

How can I remove all messages, save to a DVD, and access them easily later?

I recently dropped my .Mac account in order to use Gmail full time. I would like to be able to take those mac.com messages off of my computer--preferably saving them to a DVD--so that when I activate my Gmail account in Mail, they would be totally separate. I am also trying to save hard drive space.
I've looked around about this, and even downloaded some Applescripts for Archiving mail, but those seem to continually make Mail crash (I have 3 years worth of email saved in Mail.app--about 3,000 emails). I have read enough about Backup to know that it saves things in strange/proprietary ways.
Is the best plan simply to copy that ~/Library/Mail folder, straight up to a DVD, and then clear it off of my Mac? How do I do that without making Mail.app unstable? And will it be difficult to then read them from the DVD later if I need messages?

You can also open individual .emlx message files within the copied mailboxes to read them, without first importing them back into Mail. However, by itself this isn't very practical because the files have names like "12345.emlx" that offer no clue about their content, so finding the message of interest among 3000 of them is a challenge.
You might think that Spotlight would help with this, but in its normal state it excludes .emlx files from searches, so you can't simply do a Finder search on subject, content, etc. There are ways around this but none are simple:
1. Use a Spotlight "raw query" search to find the messages. This avoids the exclusion of .emlx files that is tacked onto all normal Spotlight queries but requires knowledge of the syntax of raw queries. (To get an idea of how that looks, & to see the exclusions, you can do a "Get Info" on a Smart Folder. The raw query string is listed after the "Query:" entry in the General section.)
2. Replace the ".emlx" extension with ".txt" or similar in the copied messages. (This could be done with an AppleScript using Finder.) Spotlight will then include the files in searches. In this case, opening the message file by default will be with TextEdit or similar, so you won't have access to "Reply" or similar features of Mail, but you will see the entire message, including the preference-like xml info about it that follows the message body in the raw .emlx file. As long as you don't alter the content, you can reimport the message into Mail by changing the extension back to ".emlx."
3. Mimic what the Mail archive utilities do & construct a database that either relates the numbered .emlx files to their content or import entire files into database records & use its search features to find the messages of interest. This is appealing if you have a powerful database app like Filemaker & skills at database construction because you can construct any view of the info you want & organize it however you like. Obviously, if you don't, it would be simpler to buy a utility, which may offer other features that you might find useful.
These alternatives would be most useful if you need to avoid reimporting large mailboxes back into Mail because of disk space concerns. They also avoid the perhaps considerable time it would take to reimport thousands of messages just to find one or two of interest. The second & third ones are somewhat self-contained & independent of Mail itself, which is both a strength & a weakness, depending on your needs.

Remove all message boxes

How about replacing all the message boxes with something like (and i can't believe i'm saying this) the information bar from internet explorer in the sense that you wouldn't need to click OK or whatnot to be able to continue your work.
Here's an example:
With the brush tool selected, you click by mistake in the image while a vector layer is selected. What happens? you get a message box telling you to rasterize the layer to continue. You click cancel because it's a mistake and then you get another message box telling you that you can't edit the layer (isn't it fun?).
This would be replaced by showing you a bar at the top of the image when you click on the vector layer telling you that if you click again with it on the layer you will rasterize the layer. The thing is that if you select a different tool or layer, the bar would disappear(as well as the effect of rasterizing by clicking once more in the image) without the need to click in some specific area before you can continue with your work.
The end result is that we'll be able to work faster and smoother. No more click ok for stuff like "no pixel is more than 50% selected", "could not complete because the area is empty", "cannot paint on hidden layer", "cannot continue because no layer is selected", etc

Here's another example where this status bar would be useful:
With a multi-layered document you go to Image->Mode->Lab and instead of asking you whether to flatten or not, it will automatically convert the image without flattening and show the bar saying something like "if the appearance doesn't match and you want to flatten the image then click here". And if you click on the bar it would redo the conversion but this time flattening the file before going to Lab. Also add an option in the bar to reverse the behavior of the conversion so that it automatically flattens the file and gives a bar saying the opposite to make sure that you won't get any angry users that always flatten when going to Lab or some other color space
Something similar would be when running actions that include a stop. Instead of relying on the user to know that he has to click play to continue or the creator of the action to write that when making the action, the bar would appear and tell you to click on it to continue the action after having made the necessary adjustments
I for one prefer the bar to appear only when needed instead of it always being onscreen and taking up screen space but at the end of the day, as long as it's implemented i won't mind the exact method of the implementation.

Mail 4.1, Exchange, and Duplicate messages in inbox

Using Snow Leopard and Mail 4.1 to access an exchange account and a gmail account. The problem ONLY occurs in the Exchange account. My messages are all duplicating. Only in Mail are they duplicating. I've checked Outlook Web Access and Outlook on my windows machine - no duplicates there. Didn't start out this way, and the problem came once before, stopped, and now it has returned. If I delete one copy of the message, both messages get deleted. Is there someway to rebuild the mail inbox? or resync?
Also, tried creating a new folder on the exchange server, copying all messages from inbox to the new folder, then moving back. In the temp/new folder, the messages were single. After copying back to Inbox - they doubled again. And again, only in Mail. The msgs remain single in Outlook, OWA, iPhone, Blackberry.
UPDATE: I highlighted the exchange mailbox and went to MAILBOX > REBUILD. Erased everything but only in Mail. The messages are still on the Exchange server and can be seen by OWA, Outlook, iphone and blackberry. New messages are going to the Mail Exchange inbox but old messages are gone. Any way to get them back?

I could never have known that the default setting on mac's mail would be "remove copy from server after retrieving a message".
now, that's a valid point. this is not exactly advertised and mail setup assistant does not tell you anything about it. you can voice your concern to apple about this issue here

there isn't anything you can do now. it's not up to apple at this point. you just can't upload messages to a POP email server. it does not matter what email client or what operating system you are using.

Well, you can try restoring your iPad then. Note this process will remove all messages from all your email accounts on the iPad, but if you're OK with that:
Plug your iPad into your computer and sync with iTunes. Then, while you have your iPad's row selected on the left, click the "Restore" button on the right.

Inbox loses all messages older than one/two days

So, I'm the proud new owner of an iPhone, and while I'm generally very happy with it, I'm having some email troubles that I hope someone here might help me sort out.
The issue is that all the messages that come into my mailbox disappear after a day or two, which negates (at least for me) any advantage to having on-the-go email. My iPhone is set up to receive email from a POP account, and so far, I've had no problems receiving or sending mail - it's the not-deleting-emails-from-my-inbox issue that's giving me fits.
At first, I thought it might have something to do with the settings on the desktop computer (Mac Pro) which is also set up to receive emails from this account. The mail application on the desktop had been set to delete all messages from the server a week after the message had been retrieved. Given that the messages in my iphone are deleted from the iphone's inbox a day (at most two) after retrieving the message, I don't think this is an issue (in any case, i am under the impression that the iphone works like any other email application - once it retrieves a message, it is downloaded onto the device, correct? it doesn't just live on the server). In any event, to be on the safe side, I changed the Mac Pro's email settings to never delete messages from the server, but this hasn't affected my iphone's problem.
I've toyed around with the iphone's settings, but nowhere can I find a setting that addresses this specific problem. Anyone out there had the same trouble I'm having? If so, were you able to fix it? is it something I'm overlooking?

That is the correct spot, what is/was that option set to under deleted Messages? Try setting it to Never and see if that might change the emails behavior. If that is not the cause then it might be a issue with the Mail Application Software on the phone in your particular case and would need to restore the phone.
Another thing to try is to remove the email account on the phone then re-add the account and see if it is doing the same thing.

Inbox WAY too full, causes all messages to be lost!

A previous employee let her inbox grow to around 950MB! It was full of ads and pictures that take up lots of space. Her replacement accumulated another 20MB of emails and when she attempted to trash most of the old ones, all messages in the inbox disappeared. We followed the fix in the thread started by Diana_NC on Feb 3, 08 in this discussion and she now has a nice new inbox. The problem is that the old inbox, at 971MB, is too large to import. She does not need all the emails and would like to be able to open it just to sort out the not needed stuff and be able to keep the most recent emails. How can we accomplish this?

If the mbox file is too big for Mail to handle it, you’ll have to break it into smaller pieces. You can do that with an MBOX Breaker Script available at Allan Sampson’s website, or with Emailchemy. The former will ignore the Incoming_Mail file that I mention in the thread you referred to, but you may try importing that file directly if it’s not too big or just ignore it if all your messages are in mbox. Also, if you removed the .mbox suffix from the name of the mailbox in order to try to import the mbox files it contains, you may need to add the suffix back again for the script to recognize that folder as a mailbox.

You can turn iMessage off on your iPhone. That's relatively easy. Since iMessage is an Apple product/service, I have no idea how a Samsung phone will deal with an incoming one. For that answer you should probably contact Samsung support.
