Remove All Website Data???

Hi,
In Safari Preferences, Remove All Website Data - doesn't.
At least not the first time.
I have to go into Details and Remove All a couple of times for it to to clear.
And it often lists websites that I haven't been to before or ones that I seen in a while and that I have already cleared.
Is this happening to anybody else?
Cheers.

I can't answer wtih certainty. But, it seems like it is a Safari issue that is pretty new, maybe new to Mountain Lion.

  • Safari 6.0.5 "Remove all website data" doesn't work

    Safari 6.0.5, OS X 10.8, MacBookPro 17" Mid-2010.
I cannot properly remove the cookies from Safari. It takes 3, 4 or 5 relaunches to clear them all. Bug?
I have even installed OS X 10.8 on a blank disk, from scratch. I have even repaired my boot disk permissions. The trouble is still there.
    This is what I do:
I clear the cache with Command-Option-E.
I select the menu "Safari:Reset Safari...", I mark all the check-boxes and press the OK button.
I go to the Preferences:Privacy panel, and I clearly see "5 websites stored cookies or other data". Sometimes they are even hundreds.
I click on the button "Details..." and verify they are all listed there. Yes they are.
Now I click on the button "Remove all website data". It seems the data have been removed. No more messages aside the button.
Then I quit and relaunch Safari, then I open the Preferences:Privacy panel.
Well, I clearly still see "5 websites stored cookies or other data".
So I click again on the button "Remove all website data". It seems the data have been removed. No more messages aside the button.
Then I quit and relaunch Safari, then I open the Preferences:Privacy panel.
Well, I clearly still see "2 websites stored cookies or other data". So only 3 data have been removed.
Now I click on the button "Remove all website data". It properly shows the data have been removed.
Then I quit and relaunch Safari, then I open the Preferences:Privacy panel.
Finally, I see the data have been removed. But is that true? Is that reliable? Of course I don't trust that.
So I quit Safari once again, relaunch it once again and verify that on the Preferences:Privacy panel.
Finally I quit Safari (with still some doubt...).
I guess that's not what I am supposed to do.

Just take care where you browse, use private browsing if you are unsure and that should be enough.   As an option, I bought an app called 'Cookie'. It's about £10 and I found it very good for a whole range of other cookies like databases and flash cookies.   Read about it at ...

  • "Remove all website data," cookies, and extension preferences

    Safari 5.1 Lion
Can someone please confirm the following (very unfortunate) behavior?
    1) Check the option "Block cookies from 3rd parties and advertisers"
    2) Visit any major site (CNN, CNET, etc.)
    3) 3rd party cookies and tracking data is still acquired from doubleclick, etc. despite step #1
In other words, Safari 5.1 does not seem to be blocking third party cookies. I have seen other threads documenting this. What's worse is that "removing all website data" (Preferences | Privacy tab) *also* deletes your extension preferences. ***?
Chrome and Firefox separate "local data" (extension prefs and site offline storage) from cookie/tracking data. Safari is no longer an option to me until this is fixed.

I, too, am perplexed by this change. Then again, I've been perplexed by most of the changes Apple has made to products/os in the last few years. I'm thinking that I may not only change browsers, but hardware/software also. It's issues like this that make me wonder if anyone on the Apple design team actually uses any of their products, or maybe they think we are all just too ignorant to be able to use a computer.
Making things simple to use shouldn't equate to removing advanced functionality, but it seems that's what Apple believes it to be.
    Really disgusted now.
    Thanks Apple.

  • Privacy - remove all website data doesn't work

    Hi all,
when I choose privacy > remove all website data - it doesn't work and all the data remains.... (details says many are in cache)
Q: why is this and how to I remove the data?

When I remove all website data under settings>safari>advanced>website data (remove all), the websites reappear when i check a day later.  How do I stop this?

    HI,
Wow you must have been watching me type and hit send since it took about 1 minute for the reply. Thanks.
Yes i understand the purpose however i still feel as though i should be able to decide for myself if i want to use them as an "option" or turn them off entirely. It's sort of akin to the "trash bin" that's not really trash, though in that instance at least microsoft and Apple listened to consumers (eventally) and allowed users to make the choice. Hey there's a thought how about Apple points the delete to the trash bin and looses the annoying popup, that way we can restore cookies? Sorry, i'm being sarcastic but in my view, if i delete a cookie or a cached web icon it's not exactly the same thing as "saving us" from deleting a spreadsheet or system files. Oh but wait in that instance i CAN delete them without having to endure the annoying "are you sure" pop up. it looks like someone missed the bus on this one. Thanks again I'll check the web for the terminal command and try and edit the tag myself.

  • Rest Safari/remove all website data

I thought I was clever and creating a faster way to delete all cookies as opposed to having to navigate all the way into -
    Safari/preferences/privacy/remove all website data/remove now
    Instead I set up -
Safari/reset safari/remove all website data (the only checked box)/remove
    It worked - ONCE.
Now it won't work again.  Strange.
    Safari Version 6.0.1 (7536.26.14)/
    Software  Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63)
Ideally - a keyboard shortcut - or one click "trash all cookies" macro would be great.

    Hi..
You can select Ask websites to not track me in Safari > Preferences > Privacy
For Apple >  Use of Cookies
If you really want to have better control over cookies, try another browser like Firefox
    Using the Cookie Manager

  • Remove All Website Data Not Working

    Hello All,
I am currently using a MacBook Pro, running OS X 10.8.5 with Safari ver 6.2.2. Recently I have noticed that when I go to preferences and click on Remove All Website Data it does not clean out the sites I have visited. Is this a common problem or do I have a virus or is there a fix? Please help. Thank you for your time.

If you want to delete only the browsing history and keep all other data, select Show History from the History menu. In the window that opens, select all the history items and press delete.

  • Despite ticking the box "remove all website data", when I reset Safari not  all stored cookies are eliminated. How can I overcome the problem? Or is it a bug?

I have done a little experimenting: 1-close all open windows (I found that I had to do this step in order to keep Safari from hanging-will be explained later). 2: Remove all data in Prefs. 3: Immediately close the prefs window (no window should be open at this point) and quit Safari. Try to complete step 3 fast as possible; I have it down to a few seconds. The reason I urge you to close all windows is that Safari hangs until forced to quit upon immediately quitting after removing cookies. I think the auto page reload in Lion is the cause of these hiccups but I can't be sure about that. The hasty quit I found is crucial to success. Don't know why that is but it could prevent the data from re-populating. A quick flush, if you will.  Hit me back if you need any of my suggestions clarified; a bit wordy, I know

  • My macbook air keeps opening ad websites without my permission. I've removed all website data various times which hasn't worked. this is making it very difficult for me to browse. please help?

I'm scared i have a virus. safari keeps opening windows/tabs without my permission. these are normally ads. i have removed website data various times which hasn't worked.

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
You may have installed one or more of the common types of ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it. It's been reported that some variants of the "VSearch" malware block access to the page. If that happens, start in safe mode by holding down the shift key at the startup chime, then try again.
Back up all data before making any changes.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those. If Safari crashes on launch, skip that step and come back to it after you've done everything else.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, ask for further instructions.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. It may have come from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
Malware is also found on websites that traffic in pirated content such as video. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
    or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
    if it's not already checked.

  • I have a new mac book, I have loaded all my old data on it via time machine. I want to now erase all that data so it is back to a new data free computer. it has yosemite, how do I remove all the data???

I want to erase all the data I loaded onto my new macbook pro yosemite. I want to have it cleaned of all the data photos etc I have loaded so it is like a new computer again. I already have all this data on a hard drive so I don't need to back the data up.???

Install or Reinstall OS X from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
      1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
      2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
      3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
      4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • How do I remove all old data in iMovie '11

In iMovie '11, I've started a few projects that didn't work, so I deleted them out. Before I started the projects, I had 32GBs free on my computer, and before I deleted them, I had 2GBs free on my computer. Once I deleted them, I still had 2GBs free on my computer. How do I delete the old "deleted" data from these files? Currently, I can't save anything on my computer and I don't want to wipe my hard drive.

I'm not sure if that would work or not, but I went and deleted the master files in Finder:
    User/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Masters.
170GBs later, I have space again!
    Thanks for the help.
