Remove audio fade on transitions?

I'm trying to insert some text slides I exported from PowerPoint as .png's and insert them into an iMovie project. I have video of a talking head, and I want to maintain the audio from the video but in certain sections I want to show the slide and not the talking head. Here's what I have tried:
1. Split the clip where I want to show the slide instead of the talking head.
2. Detach audio from the relevant clip.
3. Drag slide onto the relevant video clip and choose "Replace."
That seems to work as far as replacing the talking head with my text slide while keeping the audio. However, when I add a cross dissolve transition to soften the visual change, there seems to be an audio fade out/in. I can't seem to get rid of this.
If there's a way to fix this, or a better process, please let me know!
Thanks!

Try Cutaway instead of Replace. There should be no need to detach the audio, but it does no harm.

  • Cannot render audio fade and/or transition and/or title

I am at my wits end and ready to blow up the computer on this one.
    I have about a dozen
DV-AVI clips, captured from a Sony camcorder via Firewire.  I am editing them into 7 scenes.  I tried this with the first two scenes and I did a test Burn to File, viewed the VOB in Windows Media Player and all worked well.  I then added 5 more scenes, all with the same transition recipe between scenes, did another Burn to File and found that past the first two scenes, everything was black.  WMP showed video playing, but it was just solid black past the first two scenes.
I scoured the forum looking for clues and hours later I have absolutely no idea what is going on.   Here are my specs and what I have tried.  I also attached a screen shot showing the 3 areas on my timeline that show different states of rendering (or non-rendering).
Computer specs: PreE8, Win7 64bit, intel i7, ATI card, 6 GB RAM, 400+GB free HD
DV-AVI clips, some with the In and Out points trimmed a few seconds.
I added to each clip Audio Fade In and Fade Out.
Between each clip is the following: Dip to Black, Title, Dip to Black
I added a Menu Marker to each title.  They all appear on the menu as they should.
    Background rendering is OFF.
I am still new to PreE so I still don't quite understand the whole rendering thing.  But as near as I can tell, that is the heart of the problem, but I cannot for the life of me see how to fix it.  As seen on my screen shot, the first two transions are rendered green.  Now skip ahead to the fourth transition and it is red.  Zooming in, the red goes from the start of the audio fade out of the previous clip, through the title, then stops at the start of the next clip.  So I thought it is a transition, the title, menu marker or the audio fade out causing a problem.  however, even when I removed ALL these elements from between and on the 2nd and 3rd clips (the third transition) it is STILL red!  And yes I am pressing the Enter key to render.  There are no effects, keyframes, or anything on the adjacent clips and it won't render.  The only thing I noticed is now the unrendered part is the first 4 seconds of the later clip.
Why on earth do the first two transitions work, but the rest won't?  Why won't it render after I removed everything except the plain DV-AVI clips?

Thanks Hunt for all your help, information and encouragement.  I have been able to return to my project (I saved the original with no changes) and was able to adjust the Work Area, Render and Burn to Folder (VOB).  When I tested the VOB, everything worked great!  So that was the problem.  Hurrah!
FYI--in PreE 8, the Burn to Folder option does NOT have a "Export Work Area" button, BUT the Share to Computer (mpeg) DOES, so that is something good to know.  Obviously the Burn to Folder option in PrE 8 defaults to burning the Work Area.  For my small project, the Work Area concept is not a necessary feature, but I can see how  for larger more complicated projects it is a good way to manage resources.
Now that I have had some time away and a couple glasses of wine :-) I can be more positive about what I learned.  In my travails,  I learned a lot about rendering, keyframes, the work area,  stumbled across a way to easily search only the Premiere Elements subforum, and a lot about stop markers (which seems to cause some black-screen problems when too near to menu markers).  So it was not a complete waste of time.  Oh yeah, and thanks for the compliment on my post info.  In my forum travels,  I also learned what information is asked for over and over to get more directly to an answer and just put it in the first go-round. And it paid off!
Well, back to the shop.  My husband thinks I am crazy for using this aggravating software (I used to use Windows Movie Maker) but I keep telling him, PreE 8 is like a Ferrari.  The problem is that it is temperamental and often broken down in the shop causing a lot of frustration.   But when it runs well, it is oh such a sweet thrill, so slick and powerful, that I just can't give it up and go back to the Honda.

  • Audio distorted during fade in/fade out transitions

I'm using iMovie HD to edit an MP4 file. I've put fade in/fade out transitions at the beginning and end of the movie, but I notice that it either garbles the audio during these transitions or adds a loud clicking noise in place of the audio that should be there (i.e., the original audio fading in or out.)
Has anyone experienced this? Any idea how to work around the problem?
    Thanks.

    Maybe it is this?

  • Editing audio, Fade Out Problems!

Hi I've imported an mp3 into iMovie to run alongside a movie. How do I remove the fade out all together so that it runs the whole track? I don't want to fade the track out, have already gone into audio editing panel. Any ideas?

    citybloc,
I have not done any audio editing in iMovie 08, only in iMovie HD. In the 08 application I made my audio edits in GarageBand. You have pretty good control of it there.

  • Audio fade in

when I add audio it keeps putting about 30 secs. of silence at the beginning of the song. I have loaded different songs and opened new movies. How to I remove the fade in

    Hi lisacillustrate,
I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact nature of the issue you are describing. If you are having issues with the trim or fade in on audio clips in iMovie, you may find some of the information in the following articles helpful:
iMovie '11: Set the beginning and end of a sound or music clip
iMovie '11: Adjust the rate of audio fade-in and fade-out

  • Is there a simple fade in/fade out transition?

In Final Cut X, I don't see a simple fade in or fade out transition. Am I missing it? I've recreated it using Fade to Color (black) then adjusting the audio. But seems more complicated than it needs to be.

A very simple way (with full control) is:
Select the clip in the storyline, press Ctrl+V to open up a Video Animation box above the clip.
Click the dark rectangle to the right of the Opacity bar to enlarge it.
Near the top of the box is a thin black opacity control line.
Click the right end of the line, and drag to the left to create a fade-out.
(Click the left end and drag to the right to fade-in).

  • IMovie moving audio clips when transitions are added

iMovie moving audio clips when transitions are addedI have some video clips that need simple fades to black added at the end. However, whenever I add the fade out transition, iMovie does something insane. Instead of the last two seconds of video fading to black and the last two seconds of audio fading out, it seems that a random two seconds of audio from elsewhere in the clip is tacked onto the end and faded. This problem is nuts and I am having no luck finding a solution. Does anyone have one? This has happened with other transitions, but I’d settle for just getting a fade to black to work properly. Is this only a problem with Intel machines?

The problem that you describe has come up frequently on this forum. There are lots of things people have tried, but no solution has been found, other than the workaround of extracting the audio, as Klaus 1 mentions, and manually adjusting the fade out. Some feel that it is an intel machine problem, but that is not clear.
For more information on this issue, try using the search function of this forum, typing in "audio echo with transitions", or some other appropriate search words. You might find of interest the information contained in the following post:

  • Audio Garbled During Transitions & FX (MPEG)

I use 2 different cameras for taking home movies: A sony digital camcorder, which records in DV; and a sony digital camera, which records MPEGs. Importing and editing .DVs from the camcorder is always problem-free. With the MPEGs, however, I have to jump through a few hoops first (copy the MPEGs out of iPhoto, convert the MPEGs to .DVs using MPEG Streamclip, import the new .DVs to iMovie). So far so good. Now I can make my movie.
Except... When I add a transition or a title, the sound becomes garbled, but only for the duration of the effect. Otherwise, the sound is fine. I tried extracting the audio, but then all the audio becomes garbled. And by garbled, I mean that "helicopter" sound like others have described.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.
P.S. Here's links to 2 movies I created with iMovie; the 1st one was from the camcorder (.DV):
    http://homepage.mac.com/ron.wood/iMovieTheater61.html
the 2nd one was from the digital camera (MPEG), you can hear the garbled sound when the titles show up (there's some background wind noise, but the garbled sound is there, if you listen for it):

    Powerbook 1Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   1 GB RAM

    Hi
I own a 1.83 GHz Intel iMac and have been using iMovie for years. I've been working on a particularly large file (a compilation of best clips from 12 years worth of video of my children). The file is 42 GB. Everything was fine until I opened the file about 2 weeks ago and the audio had the aforementioned helicopter-like garbled sound. Not just a single track but all the video was garbled! After panicking a bit I found this thread. I'm not a power mac user so much of the advice I encountered in this (and other) threads was over my head. I did export the file to Quicktime from within iMovie (Share, Quicktime) and the audio did work. And then I happened onto the solution: I removed all of the transitions between the video clips (I used the cross-dissolve transition between most of the 605 clips) and my audio returned to normal. Upon finding the solution I recalled that one of the last things I did when I had last worked on this particular iMovie file was to add some transitions. Perhaps there is a maximum in terms of transitions that a particular file can handle? Or perhaps iMovie doesn't like having transitions in certain places (for example, between iMovie's built in theme clips and video clips)?
In any case, problem solved. Hope this helps somebody else who encounters the mysterious garbled helicopter-like audio.

  • What's the Best Way to do an Audio Fade-In or Fade-Out

I'm trying to figure out the best way to do an audio fade-out, other than placing a keyframe at the start of the fade, them placing a keyframe at the end of the clip and dragging it down to zero. It's hard to quickly place a keyframe at the end and know for sure it's at the very end.
In previsous versions of Premiere, I had trouble plading a keyframe and keeping it at 100%, just by placing a keyframe it would also adjust the level most of the time.  This seems to be less of a problem in CS4, but is there a way to be certain of inserting a keyfram at the current level. (A quick way.)
In general, there's got to be a quicker way to do a fade out or in!
I have Premiere Pro CS4 with a Matrox RTX2 card.
There are only three audio transitions:
    Constant Gain
    Constant Power
    Exponential Fade
I can't seem to make any of them work, cannot drag them over to an audio clip.

    Eddie:
I had seen those instructions before.
They say: To fade out a clip’s audio, drag an audio transition from the Effects panel to a Timeline panel so that it snaps to the Out point of the audio clip.
When I try to drage one of the three avaialable audio transistions to a clip:
    Constant Gain
    Constant Power
    Exponential Fade
    Nothing happens.
    WAIT.
I think I've got it now.  The "Snaps to the Out point" part.  Damn.  There was no visual feedback during the drag to indicate something was happening.
    OK.  (Whew.)
    Thanks!

  • Audio fade with fade in fade out effect

i want to make the audio fade along with the end of a clip when i use the fade in fade out transition i tried the audio cross fade but no luck could someone please help me out

Let me add to Tom and Al suggestion: if you want cross fade (not only fade in and out) your clips must have handles. In other words you should set up an Out point (in the left clip) and an In point (in the right clip): these must leave enough media in each clip to let cross fade to work; that's needed for either video or audio.

  • Undesirable audio fades

Why does FCX keep adding these audio fades?  See my screenshot.  They happen on almost every cut that has a camera angle switch. I didn't make them. They just showed up one time when I opened my project.  I don't want them.  Now I have to go and manually remove them.  Why is this happening?  This isn't the first project this happend in.

Am I the only one experiencing this?

  • Random audio clip over transition

Hello, I haven't seen this mentioned before. When I try to use the "Fade out" transition, it previews fine, but then when I drop it in the timeline, it drops in with a random clip of audio on full volume. I have the audio volume line displayed, and as it is now, it doesn't indicate that there is any audio over the clip. I know this is bizarre, but any ideas how to fix this?

I am having the same thing! I'm on a deadline for a movie for a friend's wedding. Any help would be great! It's an hour long movie so days and days of time have been spent. thanks!
I have several places that are messed up this way. I know I did use some fade outs, also separated audio in some clips, etc.

  • Recovery project automatically deleting all audio and video transitions

When Premiere crashes, the recovery project has automatically removed all audio and video transitions. This has happened to one project about 3-4 times.. Has anybody seen this or has a solution?

No ... but I'll just kick in here that it is good to have your auto-save set for not too long a time, and not a bad thing to manually save-as to an incremental every so often. It does mean your last couple few minutes of work need to be re-created, but ... that's nothing compared to losing a LOT of work.

  • Using fade/appear transition in spry tabbed panels

I've implemented the fade/appear transition into a spry
tabbed panel set up. The effect works in that when one clicks on a
tab, the content in that panel will "appear" in using a opacity
    transition.
The problem I am encountering is a pre-load of the content..
almost a flicker at 100% opacity... and then the transition from 0%
to 100% resumes. This flicker effect or visible pre-load of the
content really takes away from the effect of the transition.
Does anyone know how to solve this or correct my set up?
    I'm using the following...
    <li class="TabbedPanelsTab"
    onclick="MM_effectAppearFade('fade-guestrooms', 1000, 0, 100,
    false)" tabindex="0" onfocus="this.blur()">GUEST
    ROOMS</li>

Yes this was a tough one to pull off in Spry. I have worked up a solution that fades between the panels. Please have a look at the following post:

  • Switching off the fade in/fade out transition when viewing previews

In Library mode, when I'm switching between all my photos, there is a fade in fade out transition as it switches to the next photo.  Can I get rid of this transition?  I would like to just switch to the next photo without any fancy transition.  Possible?

On my Mac version of Lr (4.1) I can't see any such "fade-in/out" effect. Going from one image to the next is pretty much instantaneous.
Sadly, that's about the only thing in Lr 4 that is instantaneous for me.
