Remove background of an image

Hi,
I've placed a native photoshop image into Indesign and when I send it to print, I see a faint background. I read that transparency caused this to happen. Is there a work-around in removing the background.
Thanks,
Sutagami

  • Removing background in an image

I am using CS5 Photoshop with Windows O/S I am trying to find out how to remove an back ground from an image. I have read lots on layers but it does do what I want it to do. Can anyone explane to me how to do this steb by step {lease and thank-you
    Pat

Usually after you make the intial selection with the Quick Selection Tool
the brush will have a + symbol in the middle (add to selection). To
subract from the selection you could hold down the Alt key and - symbol
will be in the brush. Then to add to the selection, just release the Alt key
    and you'll get a + symbol.
Added: don't know why i typed Ctrl key when it should have been Alt key, sorry if you already
    read this.

  • Newbie: remove background around an image

    Hi,
I have Adobe Photoshop 7.0 and use it for a very limited number of tasks so needless to say when I tried something new tonight I'm totally lost. I've tried all kinds of things in PS and my searches on the forum aren't helping. I'm sure I'm searching for the wrong thing.
I have a jpg image of an irregularly shaped brown sign in front of a green wooded background. I've been trying to find a way to put this sign on a white background. I would be so grateful if someone would tell me how to go about this with PS 7.0 or point me to a tutorial that would help.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and any help you might be able to provide.

Thank you for the link I've been able to get a good bit further than before. I think this might be written for a newer version of PS than I have because the naming is different but I've been able to figure out everything up until step 6.  I did follow step "3.)" but found that was the opposite of what I needed so I deleted that step. At this point, I do have a very rough selection of the image that I would like to extract.
6.) Hit the Q key to go to Quick Mask Mode and hit the B key for the Brush Tool and choose a Brush that is semi-hard, not fully hard, but not fully soft either. If you do not have one handy, you can tailor an existing Brush to suit. Work slowly and at a high magnification. If you need to correct a brushstroke, remember Ctrl+Z, or hit the X key and your Brush becomes an eraser.
I do have a brush tool but I'm sorry I don't know how to tailor an existing Brush to make it semi-hard. I would really appreciate it if you would direct me to how to do this too. I'm sorry I'm really a novice at this stuff.

  • How to remove background from raster image?

    Hello folks.
I am trying to incorporate some business logos into a brochure I am creating. The problem is, most of these logos have a white background. How can I remove this and make a transparent background?
    Thanks!

To remove and replace you have to use one of the selection tools first.  I like the Quick Selection Tool.  Depending on the contrast between the logo and background, and the degree of perfection you require this may need to be tweeked a little.  Tweeking can be done like this.  http://tv.adobe.com/watch/the-russell-brown-show/masking-basics-in-photoshop-cs5/
The pen tool is a lot more accurate, but does have a learning curve.

  • Easiest way to remove background from an image

    Hello-
I am using Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended and I am working on trying to select a portion of a photo to use as a watermark. The photo is of a racecar in the foreground and I want to exclude the background (which is the road). Of the selection tools I really like the Magnetic Lasso tool to get in close on the objects edges but sometimes it selects areas I don't want. Does anyone know how to adjust the magnetic lasso tool once you have it all the way around an object? I've also tried the Magic Wand tool but found I couldn't drag it into a new document so that didn't work. I just need to find the easiest way to accomplish this task. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help!

<br />The pen tool is not likely the fastest way to isolate the car from the background but it is certainly the most accurate. Learn to use the pen tool; you will not be disappointed.

Select all the clips with a key, right click, and select remove effects. This will remove all the effects for those clips so you will loose any colour correcting or other changes you might have done.

  • How do I completely remove a background from an image & keep it as a .jpeg?

Hi , I already know how to remove backgrounds from images, and create a transparent background.  However, I need to be able to use the resulting image in another program  called Scratch.  And as far as I know, it does not accept  .tiff, .pgn, .psd or gifs.
How do I completely remove that background so that it doesn't show up white in other programs when I save it as a .jpeg?

Jpgs don't support transparency.  It looks like Scratch may support pngs and other formats, but the transparency may not come through.  From what I've read, you may have to use the transparency brush in Scratch to achive what you want.

  • Remove background from Smart Build images

    Hi,
I've just started creating my first project with Keynote, and so far it's terrific. The question I have is, is it possible to use the alpha tool, or something similar to remove backgrounds from images that I'm using for a smart builds effect.
    Thanks,
    Dave

    Welcome to the discussions, Decaffeinated1.
The problem you're seeing is specifically with how Keynote copies images. Neither Pages nor Numbers has this problem. The problem and the solution is described here.
    http://www.keynoteuser.com/news/?p=256
Basically, your choice is to copy through Pages or Numbers (or iWeb) OR to copy another object which will force Keynote to adhere to the transparency set with Instant Alpha.

  • Having difficulty using quick selection tools to remove background form images. Any help appreciated

    Hello All,
I am trying to remove background from images using the 3 different selection tools.  I start off fine, but ultimately the entire images keeps getting grabbed which ever tool I am using.  It is easier if you are using a pro version of photoshop and not any of the elements versions?  I have elements 11.
    Thanks

So much depends on the image itself to determine which tool is most appropriate. Another tool to try is the selection brush, where you literally paint in what you want to select.

Generally, using a different program than Lightroom, e.g. Photoshop.
Note: you can remove objects in Lightroom by stringing dust-spot removal bubbles across them, but that may or may not be preferrable. If you do go that route, it may be essential to position strategically *after* initial placement.

  • How do you remove the background from an image

how do you remove the background from an image thathas a white background?

First, change the background layer to a normal layer if needed, by dragging the padlock to the trash can.
Then use the quick selection tool or magic wand tool to select your background.
Now you can either delete the background, or click the icon at the bottom of the layers panel that looks like a circle inside a square. This icon will convert the selection to a mask.
The advantage of the mask is, it is non-destructible. In that you can change your mind at any time. Whereas deleting pixels is permanent once you close the file and there is no duplicate files. (A way around this is to make a duplicate layer and hide it. But that does make the file larger.)

  • Keying video that has similar colour background, advice please-image included.

Last-year I visited America, and on the last day managed to secure an interview with a WW2 Ace, which had to be done within a very short time span.
Unfortunately this left me with a situation that I couldn't really control, and so I am in a situation where I need to add a background to footage (doesn't need to be perfect, so a fringe would be acceptable), but I wonder if anyone can give me steps on how to best remove the Pilot from the plain background.
An image can be seen here from the footage:
    http://www.atgo72.dsl.pipex.com/key.jpg
As you can see, his shirt and hair are very similar to the background colour, so I have had difficulty colour and chroma-keying.
I am wondering if it is possible to key him out of the background, or whether I'm chasing my own tail?
Any help would be much appreciated, cheers, Neil.

    Here is my feeble attempt.

How: create a simple travelling mask and keyframe the movement of person try avoiding too few bezier points for easier, this is helpful for keying purposes so that the keyer has less areas to key out and in the end you can additionaly adjust mask expansion and feather at your needs >> Keying: i used at least 4 instances of color key and play around with color, color tolerance and feather of each instance >> add matte choker, adjust >> ad simple choker, adjust.
NOTE: Ae does not update changes very well, means every slider adjustment must be done by little increments, so adjust a little, release, adjust, release, to get the preview done this is pretty awful but it works somehow.
COMP PREVIEW MUST BE SET @ FULL QUALITY otherwise at half resolution results vary very heavy - thats the next flaw, hopefully better in CS5
    much luck.

  • Removed background in photoshop - but how to remove white box in illy?

    Hi guys,
I have successfully removed the background on an image in PS. Saved it as a GIF..
Then placed it in illustrator. However there is white space behind the image, the image has a white transparent box behind it....
The image can be placed ontop of another layer fine in illy. But.....is it possible to save just the image without any white space behind it?
    Thanks...

You need to first convert your background layer into a "normal" layer. select the motive in Photoshop (there are several tutorials for this, it largely depends on the subject which tool you use). Then you create a mask (or just delete the pixels). Make sure there is no background layer. Then save as PSD
The Photoshop manual should help on everything that is not clear.

  • Removing background from plastic wrap

    Hi all,
I need to remove the background from this image while keeping the straw and plastic wrap. Have looked all over for a tutorial, but no luck. Any help on how to do this would be much appreciated!
    Thanks in advance,

I guess it depends on your goal.
If you just want to change the background you might get away with just using the multiply blending mode.
If you want a seperate transparent file you could try something like this:
    1.duplicate the layer
    2. select all
    3. edit>copy
    4. add a layer mask (press the layer mask icon at the bottom of the layers panel)
    5. alt click on the layer mask
    6. edit>paste
    7. image>adjustments>invert
    8. apply the layer mask (right click on the layer mask and press apply layer mask)
    9.Select>Deselect
    10. Layer>matting>remove white matte
You might add a drop shadow to bring out the plastic more.
