Remove banding from gradient light

How the heck can I remove banding from light gradient? I watched over 100 tutorials about this and yet not a single one works for my case!!!!!
I have a light set in dark red color over a solid layer. That creates a color gradient. But it's so blocky that messes up the whole video.
My color depth is 32 bpc.
I tried adding noise 5-10% (result:nothing)
I added some boxing blur (result:nothing)
In preview color seems (not sure about that)  to be ok but when saving it into mp4 then Ι get everything messed up.
My output options:
H.264
24 frames
profile: high
level:4
bitrate settings:vbr,1pass
I don't know what to do!! I want a smooth gradient light on the solid layer without all this blocky look! why is it so difficult to have?!
layers:
light  & solid layer

Thank you guys but nothing is helpfull.
1. AE 9.0.0
2. whe you ask for specific information then be specific so I can understand. You are the experts but you have to deal with people who don't even know what a pixel is, like me.
3. Adobe Media Encoder CS4? That's a lot of reading there. I don't undersand the 90% of the AE terminology used. Is this AME a program or something? I learned the basics in After Affects by just messsing around with the  program, so can you please provide me the very basics of what should I do with AME? I just want to make my video not to get a Phd in AME!!
So I am stuck in the last step "make a movie" .. How the AME will help me? Do I have to set up something there and then to select it from After Effects? I don't even know where to begin!! It's like it's 1000 times more difficult to render the movie than making the movie and the effects :/

  • Remove banding from scanned magazine images

    Hi there,
I would not normally come and bother people on here but despite repeated efforts to find an answer for myself, I haven't been able to.
I would like to know if there is an action or a plugin (either free or purchase) that can remove color banding from magazine images that have been scanned. Unfprtunately, it's not my scanner so I can't simply replace it - which would be the easiest option.
here is an example of the problem:
    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/143515/tuttifrutti-4.jpg
Any advice or links would be greatly appreciated,
    Jason

    TSN,
The image has been taken down.  I guess the OP reacted to my comments about copyright issues.
What follows is an academic type of description of the problem(s), as I doubt we'll hear from the OP again.
There was quite a bit of moiré, more clearly visible on the face of the model, but that was not the OP's main problem at all.
There were some broad diagonal stripes, in the opposite direction of the moiré on the face, as if painted with an unsteady hand using a custom brush of some kind.
The image below shows a couple of crops, intentionally exaggerating the strips for easy illustration of the problem.

  • How to remove banding from exported images (png, tiff) from illustrator layout with gradient

is there any way to remove or reduce banding that I am getting in a layout I've done that contains a gradient? I am exporting raster images (png or tiff) and there is a noticeable stepping of tonalities, rather than a smooth shift
    thanks

In an 8bit format like PNG you only have 1024 unique levels...
    1024 is 10 bits. 8 bits is 256.
But PNG is an RGB 8-bit per channel format. That yields 256^3 (i.e.; 24-bit or 16.7 million) potential "levels" (colors).
...banding that I am getting in a layout...
Banding that you are getting where?
What are the specific color values involved?
    What is the final use?
What will be the distance across the gradient in its final use?
You have to consider whether the banding is actually in the raster image, or if it is merely an artifact of where/how the image is being viewed.
Banding is not a simple matter of image color depth. Banding is a device-dependent phenomena. The banding you see on your monitor is not the same banding that will be seen on your grayscale laser printer; is not the same banding that will be seen on your CMYK inkjet printer; is not the same banding that will be seen on press. Banding in print is generally more a function of levels of gray (per separation) of the imaging device, and can vary depending on the halftone ruling (assuming conventional AM screening).
Depending on the answers to the questions above, you may very well be fretting over nothing.

  • How to remove selected image from a light table?

According to the Aperture User Manual, when I select an image on a light table, I should be able to remove it (while still leaving it in the light table browser). However, this seems to work only for the image I most recently added to the light table -- when I select an image I added just before the most recent, the button at the upper left for "Light Table Put Back Selected" is grayed out. (Also, the command-shift-P shortcut shown in the tooltip doesn't do anything.) Am I misunderstanding the use of this button? Doing something wrong? I added some images, and decided I wanted to put a few of them back, but can't figure out a way to do that. Makes the light table pretty useless except for layout of a set of images you are already committed to. Doesn't seem possible.

Hey, thanks -- everything worked as you described. It never would have occurred to me that the "put back" button refers to the browser selection not the layout selection, for reasons I give below.
I think Aperture exhibits some conceptual confusion here. First of all, a "light table" is created by the New > Light Table command, and you add images to the newly created light table just as you would add them to an album. But those images don't go on the light table layout until you drag them from the browser to the layout table. The "put back" button and "remove from light table" contextual menu command both mean remove from the layout. The phrasing of the contextual menu command make it sounds as if it will remove the clicked image from the light table's collection of images, like removing an image from an album -- it would have made more sense to name this command "put back". Furthermore, the "put back" button is above the layout display, not above the browser, which to me implies that it applies to selections in the layout display. To select an image in the browser, and click "put back selected" seems backwards -- if you just selected the image in the browser, your attention is focused on the browser, not the layout; from the browser's point of view, the button should read "bring back" not "put back".
The documentation didn't really help when I was trying to figure this out. Sometimes the Aperture documentation refers to just a "light table", as on the overview on page 732. On pages 733 and 734, though, it refers to a "light table album". On page 735 of the Aperture manual there is a very brief explanation of how "to add images to the light table" and "to remove an image from the light table". Here, "light table" refers to the layout not the album. The explanation of the "Put Back Selected" button says to select an image then click the button, and the picture shown is of an image selected in the layout, not in the browser.

  • Can rendering from Motion reduce banding on gradients in graphics?

I have created a 50-minute animated movie, the visuals all rendered from Flash Professional 8 in the Animation codec. They look stunning. Clean & beautiful with no banding or artifacts of any kind.
I edited the movie in FCP 4 using the DV sequence preset and output as DV NTSC. The finished product is mostly gorgeous but has some colour halos and noticeable banding in the gradients I would like to eliminate.
Question is: If I bought Motion (FCStudio), could I import the whole project into Motion and output it with float rendering would that eliminate the halos and banding? The source files are currently animation codec but could all be re-rendered as uncompressed 10 bit if necessary.
Or is there some other way to deal with banding in gradients and colour halos?
    G5 dual 1.8Ghz   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

I'm sure impressed with all the responses. Thank you.
As my original question had to do with buying Motion for the float rendering, I didn't give you enough detail to solve my problem in Flash & FCP4.
At least half of the gradients are in the foreground and the 3d renders, so compositing over a background won't help. I have tried all the high rez codecs and had the same problem. Sorry about wasting your time.
I have found an acceptable solution that might be worth noting.
The problem was in rendering it as a self-contained movie from FCP4. I had overlooked the CUSTOM setting under Export as QuickTIme which allowed me to ouput a REFERENCE MOVIE in ANIMATION codec ( I had previously tried outputting a reference movie in uncompressed 8&10bit but that made the actual real life DV footage in the movie terribly jittery).
The reference animation codec movie burned to DVD eliminated a lot of the banding and reduced the rest to a level that looks like a "style". The output is otherwise stunning in its clarity and colour, and for this project I am deeming that acceptable. I will buy FCP Studio and learn Motion and perhaps output an even cleaner master in future but not for this deadline.
Thank you all again for taking the time to reply.

  • Time machine sparse bundle removed files from bands

    Hi,
I have had backup on Time Capsule which I wanted to delete because I bought new fast HDD for backups using thunderbolt so I tried to manualy remove files from sparsebundle package > bands directory.. as this was very slow action and mostly it hanged I left it... after some time I was about to restore iPad 2 but could not find older backup so I remembered that I had Time Machine backup on Time Capsule somewhere in shelf so I tried to mount it and get old iPad backups from it but "no mountable file systems" error appeared.
Is there any way how I could get one directory from this corrupted sparsebundle? I tried some steps from google attaching it as a device and running fsck_hfs -rf but it ended with errors.
I hope you guys have some solution to save my valuable data!

    CyKi wrote:

That corrupted it beyond repair.    Your data (including the file system directory, catalogs, etc.), was spread over those band files.
I tried to mount it and get old iPad backups from it but "no mountable file systems" error appeared.
Nope.  OSX can't tell what it is.  The bands you deleted probably contained the directory.

  • How to remove objects from pics using LR...

I am not a professional photographer and I do not have a whole lot of photo editing knowledge. I started out several years ago using Photoshop elements 5 and eventually learned how to do several things like moving objects around or removing them from a photo, or moving someone's face into a different picture if their eyes were closed and lots of nice editing features. I loved it and still love it. My laptop was getting really old and slow so I just recently purchased a new computer which has windows 8 on it. I loaded my photoshop elements and cannot get it to open or work properly and am wondering if it's because of the windows 8 operating system. So I then decided to purchase a new photo editing software. I decided (quickly.. too quickly) to purchase adobe lightroom just because it had very good reviews online. Now I have several pictures that need to be edited for Christmas and I cannot find any "lasso tool" or any thing similar right now.. I was so used to using the layers and features from the PE and now my heart is broken because I feel so lost and maybe broke at the same time!! This program is soooo different than what I was used to using but I don't even know if I can do the same things with it. EXAMPLE: there is an air conditioner unit in one of the photos I've taken and I was planning on removing it from the picture. Also I was aiming on moving a face over from another picture because of some closed eyes.. Someone please tell me, is this program capable of doing these things or can I only play with the lighting in this? Will I have to spend more of my $$ to get another Photoshop elements to get the features I use?

These tasks are tasks for Photoshop or Photoshop Elements, not for Lightroom, which is more an image data base.

    Hi, Hugo,
In similar cases it helped to remove the GarageBand "Preferences" file from the User Library.
    Open the folder
your home folder > Library > Preferences

  • How to remove dimension from report

    Dear All,
I have created a report using Drag and Drop option as explained in the following link with 2 dimensions in rows and 1 dimension in column. Now I would like to remove one of the dimension from existing report. As explained in the below link I could not able to see the option called Remove Dim from design mode as well as preview mode.

SAP Help: To remove a dimension, right-click on the dimension name block and select Remove Dim. You can remove dimensions only when more that one exists on either your columns or rows.
Please, can anybody shed some light on this issue.
    thanks in advance..

    Dear Pravin,
    Thanks for the reply.
I have tried this drag and drop option. But the problem with this option is existing format is getting disturbed and some junk values appearing in place of removed dimension.
    thanks and regards,

  • Can't remove keywords from multiple files

    I can't believe I can't get this working.
Say I have 15 images with the same 10 keywords in every file. One of the keywords is "banana" and I want to remove it from all 15 files.
I select all the 15 files. When I do that one becomes "active" (it gets lighter gray highlight than the 14 other images).
I then go to the Keywording panel and manually remove "banana" from the list.
When I look through files to see the change all but the one that was active STILL has the "banana" keyword applied.
I have also tried selecting the 15 files and made the file without the banana keyword active and run "Sync Metadata" and removed "banana" from the "Keywords" field in the dialog box. Same thing happens. No change to the files that aren't active.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks in advance,
    Unicorn

Simple. Don't take photos of bananas!
Actually, I believe you need to select the photos in the Grid, not in the filmstrip. Then, removing keywords should work as expected, and then when you try to remove the keyword, this keyword will be removed from all selected photos.

  • Banding.. yes banding in gradients

First of all Im not here to waste your time.  I have read pretty much every thread on here about banding in gradients and there is no solution for my problem.
    Details:
    Illustrator CS
I experience awful banding in almost every gradient I do.  It doesn't matter what the colors are.  It happens more so in darks.
I cannot rasterize my work, so I can't do the gradients in PS, I can't add noise, etc.  I am currently working on something that will later be resized for an art show.  I work 100% in vector and unfortunetly, it has to stay that way.
Here is an example of what I'm working with.  The darks.. the banding is horrid.
Ive tried re-setting my screen profile, but Ive had people on other computers tell me that they can see the banding.
    I've tried RGB vs CMKY..
I mean, I really am at an end.  Most of my work is viewed digitally, but I do need it to look good in print.
I wouldn't waste your time, I have spent the last week all over the internet trying to find a solution.  I would think that these simple gradients would be possible in such a high end program I paid hundreds for, but really?!
Im near tears because I mean, this is my art.  I just hate that it looks so terrible.
I thank ANYONE for their help, this is becoming such an issue for me.

    any updates on this?
I noticed the gorgeous tones on the splash screens too, and would like to reproduce that softness...
I get what JET is saying, but I get the banding too on even just 2 similiar tones less than 12 inches apart. But from what Jet is saying I assume he means that the screen visual is not the same as the printing outcome and does not indicate the printing outcome.
a cheap or poor screen may show banding, but printed to a 5 thousand dollar printer may come out smooth when the vector is rasterized at 300 DPI on an A4 page.
I have banding on a photoshop image here actually, but I have seen lots of artwork with smooth creamy gradients or tonal blends painted on figures in character artwork, pinups and illustrations, or how to recreate the look of the opening splash screens of the software, wish I knew how to do that, i`m using  a wacom bamboo with low opacity and brush pressure determines opacity in photoshop.
here is a black to transparent gradient layed over a flat mid gray layer. 10cm long. just showing you that the screen banding is not specific to only illustrator. using PS CS5 here.
same issue goes for brushes, here I used the largest softest default brush to fill this shape, still creates streaking.

  • How do you remove photos from an album?

    Hello,
I can't believe I'm having to ask how to do this in a forum, but I can't work out how to do it so have to:
How can I remove some images (a number of them just in case it's different from just one) from an album?
I've tried selecting a number of images then looking uner all the menu options (none that'll do what I want that I can see), control clicking to see the options (none that'll do what I want that I can see), dragging images over into the trash (just creates a new album with the dragged images), pressing delete (nothing), pressing delete while apple key pressed (nothing).
And also, how c-r-a-p is it that I have to write into a forum to find out the answer to such a simple question?! Quite humilaiating but in fact it should be seen as a flaw in the app as I have tried all reasonable things to delete some sodding images from an album.
Any ideas how to do such an obviously tricky thing would be very much apprecaited.
    TIA, John
edit: the album I'm trying to remove images from is a dark blue one with a circle, not a light blue one -- that seems to make a difference. I can remove from light blue ones. I made the album I'm trying to remove from by using "New Smart Album" and choosing before today's date to get all the images in iPhoto into a new album from which I can selectively remove from -- although I can't remove from -- that's what this question is aboute.
    Thanks.

It's a challenge to imagine what you consider to be "reasonable".
No need to imagine: the things I tried and consider reasonable to delete some images from an album were listed above what you quoted.
The concept of "smart albums" would seem, by definition, to exclude the manual addition of images to (or deletion from) such an album.
Not necessarily but if that's what the situation is OK. Not necessarily because the "smartness" may only take place when the album is created, or on a continual basis. So it's on a continual basis I guess that the smartness takes place. Then it isn't a smart album I want to be using in the first place. I'm trying to simply start off with all images in iPhoto and remove/pick away until I've got the ones I want. Using the smart album at the time seemed like the only quick way to get a new album containing all the images in iPhoto. I tried dragging all the images into a new album before using the smart album to make the new album and it started to take ages so I looked for a quicker way to duplicate all of iPhotos images into a new album.
So my question is now: what's the quickest way to make a new album of all the images in iPhoto?
    thanks.

  • Banding in gradients with Pavilion 22xi

I have been using a new Pavilion 22xi for a couple of weeks, and color settings remain problematic after much trial and error. My primary concern at this point is the significant banding in gradients. It's difficult for me to imagine that this would be considered expected performance, but thus far I have not been able to significantly reduce it.
My display is connected via HDMI cable to a Mac Mini running OS X 10.9.1. I have explored a variety of adjustments to both native display controls and the OS X color profile. So far, banding in gradients continues. I welcome any advice as to what I might do; if there are other details I can provide, just let me know.
    Thanks.

Looking at your PDF it's difficult to tell exactly what's happening. I've had banding problems, however, in similar situations passing Illustrator files through Photoshop to be converted to high-resolution JPEGs for a very specific printer. Essentially, the file looks fine in Illustrator and fine in Photoshop until one significantly raises the white levels. The banding which then appears is very similar to the banding which appears upon printing. Can you see the errors in your file before they're printed? Or, only after printing?
Here's a couple thoughts... save Illustrator file as hi-res PDF. Use CS4 High-Quality Print presets. Open in Photoshop, rasterize at 300dpi in PS's opening dialog box. Flatten and save as TIFF, etc. for printing. May solve the problem.
Another setting to experiment with which may do nothing (and may cause the sky to fall) is to check your presets for Color Settings. Try setting Conversion Options > Intent > to Perceptual. This may make some users howl as Relative Colorimetric is the default setting for many users. However, it's been said to me that Perceptual is the correct setting to avoid banding in images with large gradients.
For more information on the differences between the two, check out: http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/color-space-conversion.htm
Regarding the lines around placed images, I haven't dealt with that one. You may want to open the images in Photoshop and make sure there isn't some colored trim left over from the cropping process. Provided that isn't the case, try re-placing them before saving to PDF and moving to Photoshop.
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers!

  • Flickering from stage lights issue

    Hello,
I have sought help from this community on a few occasions and the assistance recieved has been fantastic. Thank you.
I have been filming live stage events for a while, occasionally I have a problem with the stage light 'rolling and flickering' Up to now I have controlled this with reducing the shutter rate.
At a different venue the performers brought a huge array of lights and effects. The 'rolling and flickering' from the lights was significant, as it stands the footage is unusable. My understanding of this issue is that the hertz rate of the lights is in conflict with the signal rate of the cameras recording.
Canon 7D, PAL, 25 fps, 1920/1080. ISO 2000. Artifact/flicker/role incresed significantly with shutter speed increase, lighting to low to increase over 150.
Slowing shutter speed reduced issue but could not run under shutter speed of 50. Progressive mode.
In FCP X there is no flicker reduction filter (even if this would help).
Is there a way to overcome this problem when shooting, or a way to fix it in post.
    Thank you
    Phil Tasker-Poland.

    Take a look at:
    http://www.borisfx.com/Apple/bccfxplug/
Here is an example of fixing flicker (the demo is done on the Avid):

I think they offer a free trail.
