Remove built-in search-engines in Firefox Nightly

I don't use the default Firefox search-engines, so I like to be able to delete all the Amazon, Twitter, Google nativelly installed on every Firefox version. Using current and beta version of Firefox, I am able to remove built-in search-engines on the Android version, simply from the add-ons manager and disable the search-engine.
However, on the last Nightly build, the search-engines can not be found in the add-ons manager. My phone is not rooted, so I'm not able to directly set the search-engines list by editing the files or removing it through the search-engines list. Can't find a property in `about:config` either...

The root solution is useful but not everybody is root and this search engines re-ordering function seems to be pretty basic. However, I'm sure there is a lot of reasons for having remove it since pas versions.

Open Firefox -> Go to View -> Toolbars -> Chechmark on "Navigation Toolbar"
this will bring back your address bar (where you type links to go to websites :P )

  • When I use a search engine in Firefox, the links redirect me to some spam, and not the site the search engine found.

When I use a search engine in Firefox, whether it be google, or Yahoo, the links found by the search engine, re-direct me somewhere else. For instance when I searched for Places to Buy PC Games. www.gamestop.com popped up. When I clicked the link, it took me to some laptop hardware site. But if I type in the url for Gamestop, it takes me to their website. This has happened for several searches, several different links. I tried Internet Explorer thinking it may be a problem with the search engines. But IE is working fine for this.

This type of behaviour can be caused by malware. Try running several malware scanners. It is best to run several as each will pick up things that the others miss. Some scanners you can try are:
    * [http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php Malwarebytes]
    * [http://www.superantispyware.com/ SUPERAntiSpyware]

  • How to remove Yahoo! search engine

I have two yahoo search engines appearing in the search box menu. One is Yahoo and the other is Yahoo! (with the explanation mark). It appears the Yahoo! has hijacked my browser as I am unable to remove it by using the manage search engine option. While it appears to be removed, when I close Firefox I get a message that says a program blocked its removal. Please tell me what I need to do to remove this bogus search engine as it redirects me to what appear to be legit Yahoo pages saying words that I never typed could not be found. Interestingly, the redirects do not occur for all websites I visit.
    Thanks, Tony

Use most or all of the listed programs. Each works differently.
If one program misses something, another may catch it.
Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

    Hi kjkirtley,
Your question is not quite clear about where you are doing the searches from, but I will presume you are trying to do searches from Safari (Apple’s web browser) and it is using Bing as the default search engine. You can set the default search engine to Google by going to the Safari menu > Preferences > General > Default Search Engine:

  • How to remove search engines in firefox mobile 26

With the update to firefox 26, another bunch of search engines I will never used were added to my browser. In earlier versions a search engine could be disabled in the addons menu, but that doesn't work any more... Is there any way to remove twitter, bing,... in this version of firefox?

This is really poor = and as the OP mentions it used to be possible. I've promoted firefox to others since version 2 or so, uninstalled now.

  • How do i change my default search engine in firefox 4?

    * In the location bar, type '''about:config''' and hit Enter.
    * In the filter at the top, type: '''keyword.URL'''

    * Go to File | Exit
    * Restart Firefox, go to the site you want to set as your homepage.
    * Go to '''Tools '''| '''Options '''| '''General'''.

    * Click the button called "'''Use Current Pages'''" to set the homepage to the one you have on the screen.

  • Actually want to report that Add-On "Flash Video Downloader Suite or FVD Suite" has a built in search engine hijacker. Suggest you ban it.

I installed FVD Suite because it sounded like it was a good all in one video downloader. WHen installing it asked me if I wanted to switch my search engine to theirs and I selected no. However, once installed it tried on several occasions to hijack my search engine. Luckily I have a search engine protection "BrowserProtect" which blocks any attempt to make changes to my browser settings. After about 2 or 3 days I finally got tired of the hijack attempts and tried to uninstall FVD Suite. At that time I found out that it was also running in several other places on my computer other than just in Firefox. Not sure why or what it was doing, not that skilled, but didn't like the fact that it was in other places and also don't like having my browser constantly under attack from a plug-in.

I just downloaded this yesterday, and I want it removed. I'm having trouble with step #3. I can't find "delete whole line which contain string "flashvideodownloader.org/result.php".
    Please help.

  • Why has Yahoo! installed itself as default search engine behind Firefox 'front page' and how do I turn it off?

Yahoo search engine seems to have imposed itself as default search engine whenever I open a new tab or use the small search pane on top right of screen. Is this a Firefox default setting and, if not, how can I switch it off?

Yahoo has taken over my search engine also. so far I have removed the Yahoo choice from Manage Search Engines. I have Google as the first choice but it still opens in Yahoo.
As the screen shot shows ....you can clearly see that Google was my choice but it came up on Yahoo.

  • How to manage search engines in Firefox 34.0.5???

I have been using Firefox for sometime now but the latest version has messed up the search bar. I have already seen quite a few posts related to this but no of them fix my current problem.
I use and addon called 'add to search' it allows me to take search bars on many websites and add them as search engines. It also allows you to set keywords for the different search engines. In version 33 and lower when you click manage search engines it is possible to shift the order of the search engines, edit their keywords, remove them and even rename them. With the update to version 34.0.5 all this functionality is lost. The keywords still operate, but I am unable to edit them or remove/rename search engines I have added. Does anyone know how this can be done? I would like to be able to change the keywords and I would also like to be able to remove search engines I have added and at this point Mozilla has made that hard.
    Any ideas?

Load this address in the Location Bar.
    chrome://browser/content/search/engineManager.xul
You may want to bookmark that address for future use.

  • Removal of unwanted search engine.

For whatever reason there is a search engine embedded in the data of my Firefox software called "sweetpacks" or something of the sort. I cannot remove it and I am getting very irritated by this. I have uninstalled everything that registers on my computer, and I have even uninstalled and reinstalled the Firefox browser. Nothing is working to remove this.

Sweetpacks is the most pernicious piggyback on freeware I have encountered.
I used Malwarebytes and CCleaner to get rid of anything with "sweetpacks" in the name or publisher.
Then to make Firefox stop opening Sweetpacks every time I opened a new tab:
    1. In the address bar, type 'about:config' and then click Enter.
    2. You will be notified that you are about to change your settings. Click 'I'll be careful, I promise!'
    3. You will see a Search field, type ‘newtab' and then click 'browser.newtab.url'.
    4. In the box that will be opened, enter the URL that you want to open in the new tab page instead of Sweetpacks and then click OK.

  • Helllo sir/man, I need to remove a certain search engine from my browser,, that probably got into my pc while installing something else.

From last week i keep on removing a certain serch engine, but it re-appers after i restart my pc or open my brower after and hour or two.
    Search engine name is Gosearch.
Its really annoying to see that search engine.. again and again..
I even checked my installed softwares list but there was nothing with that name there.

You can use this chrome URI in the location/address bar to open the previously used window to manage search engines and possibly bookmark this page.
    *chrome://browser/content/search/engineManager.xul
User installed search engine are stored in the searchplugins folder in the Firefox profile folder.
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
