Remove CS3 with CS5 Installed

Hi!
I had CS3 installed when I purchased CS5. I didn't remove CS3 and now I'd like to. Will this affect my CS5 install at all?
Thank you!
Karen

It could.  It sometimes affects the File Type Associations. It seems counterintutive, but removal of CS3 can cause the files look for CS3 rather than CS5. It is a mess to get it back to looking for CS5.
Unless you really need the HD space it is best to leave it installed.  Can never tell when you might want to use it.
If you really want to uninstall CS3, and have no problems, it is recommended to uninstall both versions, run Adobe Clean Scripts (to get rid of remnants), then re-install CS5.  If you do this be sure to deactivate the copies before the uninstall.  (In Help menu)
Hope this helps.

Yes, as long as your machine meets the system requirements for Creative Cloud.

  • Uninstalling CS3 with CS5 already installed (Master Collection)?

I have both CS3 (Master Collection) and CS5 installed and would like to uninstall CS3. May I safely do this with no impact on my CS5 installation, or must I uninstall both and reinstall CS5? I'm on Vista Home Premium (64-bit).

You’re quite likely to break file associations if you do.

  • What's the proper way to remove CS3 after CS4 install without screwing up Acrobat?

During CS4 installation, I had some serial number issues with Acrobat. It turns out that even though Acrobat is part of the creative suite, the licensing for it is different. I've got all of that sorted out now and CS4 is successfully installed. Now I need to remove CS3, but I don't want to remove any shared components that would disable or affect Acrobat.
Should I just remove the CS3 folders in my Applications folder or should I use the CS3 Uninstaller?

I can't run any of the CS3 apps because of the Acrobat licensing issue that I mentioned earlier. Therefore, they're just taking up hard drive space now. I also have a suspicion that CS4 and CS3 might be sharing resources? Can't quantify that but quitting CS4 apps takes forever and shutting down the machine after quitting CS4 apps takes even longer.

  • Double click to open in CS4.. with CS5 installed

In my experience, if you have had say, InDesign CS4 and InDesign CS3 installed, as long as you had CS3 open and double clicked a file that was indeed created and saved via CS3, that it would open in CS3.
However, even if I save a file just created in CS4, and even with InDesign CS4 open (CS5 is not launched), CS5 will launch and open the file if I double click the CS4 file.
    Is this normal?!
    Thank you...

I was just wondering WHY, as this is most certainly NOT how it used to be. I can recreate the scenario where it worked above (CS3, CS4) all day long.
Thank you for the confirmation, but would love to know what changed. This is a step backwards, and want to know who to blame. ;-)
    Thank you.

  • I had to buy a new computer and now can't get my CS3 with CS5 upgrade to work on windows 8.1. What can I do to get them to load and work?

I can load CS3, but it won't let me register it and I can load CS5 upgrade, but when I open CS5 it shows fault and closes. What can I do to get these programs to work on my new computer?

Registration has always been optional, so there is no point in trying. Those pages on the Adobe site are long gone. CS5 crashing is another matter, but without some crash logs and more detailed system information nobody can realyl know. This could be a mundane permissions issue on some files, could be a crash with the hardware acceleration stuff but just the same could be the activation system failing. Impossible to tell based on your limited information.

  • Help with CS5 Install to New Dell Laptop!

I am consistently getting this (ERROR: DW050:  - Adobe Color EU CS5.5: Install failed), after several attempts to install CS5.5 on my new Dell laptop computer. I turned off my firewall and antivirus security, as suggested by the installer, but none of it made any difference. I have the download exe. file on my  network drive, however I did place a copy on my desk top to do the install. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Please provide us with the following logs.
    You can find them at:
    PS Installer logs
    For Mac:
    Library\Logs\Adobe\Installer
    For Win:
    Program Files(x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Installers
You can zip all the files together and send us through mail. This would help us in finding the root cause.
Appreciate your help. Apologize for the inconvenience.

    Merci,
    Sof

Based on feedback via Microsoft CS3 is compatible.  It might be necessary to install in compatibility mode.

  • Remove cs3 bridge cache after installing cs5

I removed cs3 including bridge and installed cs5 and find that the cs3 bridge cache and associated files are still in my hard drive occupying 6.5GB of space.  Can I remove this and how?

CS3 and CS5 uses different cache data bases, so you can delete them using the CS3 purge cache in preferences.  If you have uninstalled CS2 just delete the files.

  • MAC Adobe Illustrator CS3 cannot be installed because it conflicts with Adobe Illustrator CS3

    Model Name:iMac / Processor Name:Intel Core 2 Duo / Memory:4 GB
When I installed Illustrator CS3 at the first time, I didn't complete it and closed it. While I installed it again, it said "Adobe Illustrator CS3 cannot be installed because it conflicts with Adobe Illustrator CS3". I was be stopped on this step, so I deleted the Illustrator CS3 from Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers without clicking it to uninstall. And I deleted other Illustrator CS3 files. After that, I tried to reinstall Illustrator CS3 again, but it kept to say "Adobe Illustrator CS3 cannot be installed because it conflicts with Adobe Illustrator CS3".
I cannot find any Illustrator in my MAC. What is wrong? How can I install Illustrator again? Should I format the computer and install all the applications again?

On the Adobe site probably under support do a search for Adobe CS 3 Clean Up Script.
Before running the script read the instructions al the instructions first, do not assume you understand from reading the first sentence. There are some files that are not so obvious that are necessary for activation and they are probably still around but they can only be removed by the script.
Next time you will have to read the instructions.
The only other ways around this is the do an archival reinstall of your system or if that does not work a complete reinstall of your system. Running the script is the easier and better way to do this but you must read the instructions completely first.

  • How to completely remove mac os and install windows 7 on macbook pro with retina display 15 inch

how to completely remove mac os and install windows 7 on macbook pro with retina display 15 inch

There's not much sense in purchasing a Mac to run only Windows on it.  Keep in mind that drivers for Windows are a secondary concern for Apple.  While Windows will typicall run fine, things like power managment are not optimized under Windows (you'll get less time on battery while running Windows).  You will also not be able to install firmware updates.  Firmware updates might be necessary whether you run Windows or OS X as they are updates to the code in your hardware and are not OS-specific.  You must be running OS X in order to install a firmware update.  You can do this even if you boot off of an external drive with OS X installed on it.  At the very least, you should keep just a small partition for OS X on your internal drive.
