Remove custom aspect ratio

Hi all,
I set up some custom aspect ratios in the crop and straighten tool window for a project I was working on. Now that I'm done w/ them I would like to remove them from the drop down menu. Can some one tell me how this is done?

As Pete says, they get overwritten with new ones, but that only answers the question indirectly. You can't remove them from the list and make the list empty, except by deleting the preference file. This removes all customisation though, and returns Lightroom to first install preferences. Not something to do lightly, because all of the print/slideshow/web settings you've used are stored there also.

Yes, thanks, Bob. I should have said I already did that- the problem is it shows all monitor profiles (which I will weed) and a series of "dot gain" settings, and working color spaces, too, and Japan this or that. It's hardly a real issue for me- just means I have to scroll sometimes. Some of these are buried in the app., and some just shouldn't be shown.
The real issue has now become that in attempts to clean up my desktop copy, I perflorkenated my copy of PS there. Oh, sigh.... :)

Can the screen be cropped to and exported at a custom aspect ratio?

I think I'm needing Premier to do something it's just not designed to do. What I need to do is to take five or six different screen and audio captures of the same event (a 3D virtual reality instructional session), each representing a different person's view of that event, assemble those in a split screen, synchronize them to the designated "main" capture's audio, delete the other audio tracks, and add CG title labeling each one. The effect is like looking at a display showing six security camera images. From what I can determine, it is possible to do those things in Premier.
However, what I then need to do is to crop out any extra space to the left and right of that split-screen image and export the file as a .mov with the aspect ratio produced by the cropping so that the videos are as large as possible and are not distorted from resizing them to fit the standard aspect ratio. Depending on the size of the screencaps, the resulting .mov might have nearly a 1:1 ratio. What is critical for this is that the video be as large as possible and the "black" space be as small as possible so that the person who comes in later to analyze these composite videos can see everything as clearly as possible. I also need to crop on the fly; because these images aren't always captured at the same size, it is impossible to preset a size for the resulting video.
We've been using a screen capture tool to do this that works but is a pain; clips can only be moved and resized by mouse-drags, and the software has to import to and export from its own proprietary format, which is very slow. However, ever piece of "real" video editing software I've looked at only seems to export in TV or film aspect ratios. Quicktime Pro looked for a bit like the best bet, but it doesn't seem to be able to handle multiple audio tracks (which are necessary since I have to synchronize tracks by ear much of the time).
Is what I'm describing--exporting .mov files while preserving custom aspect ratios that are created by cropping during editing--something Premier can do? If so, would it be something fairly easy for complete novices to do?

Thanks, but we cannot change the screen recording process. According to the study's protocols, the virtual world has to be full-screen or almost nearly so during the session, and that full screen has to be captured for analysis. Resizing the screen captures is not a problem (especially since I already said I'm doing that), but if you're saying that Premier can only play back up to six screen captures simultaneously if they're captured at 1/4 screen, then that's a deal-breaker right there.
By the way, here's approximately what each of the completed composite videos looks like:

Each screencaptures is resized to the largest consistent size that will fit into this format, and then the resulting video is cropped to the outside border. If there are only five screencaptures, I simply center the single one on the bottom on the "center line."
And, to be clear (though I've said this several times already), this is something that is already being done. We probably have more than 60 of these .mov files, each around 45 minutes long, with five or six synchronized screen captures in each. Frame rate etc. has not been any issue with these, and neither has playback of the .mov file from HD or DVD.

How to change custom aspect ratio in Lighroom 5.

I am having trouble changing custom aspect ratio in lightroom 5. I can change it in 3 but it doesnt work in 5?

Custom aspect ratios are just that, ratios. There is no size involved. You control size in the print module or in the export dialogue. There is no provision in Lightroom itself to change the size of the image. Lightroom imports the image taken by the camera and displays all the pixels. Any sizing that you want done is enter your control using either Lightroom features. The original image size cannot be changed.

Cropping to Custom Aspect Ratio

I have a landscape image which I want to crop to portrait with a custom aspect ratio, but Lightroom will only let me crop to the landscape format. Am I missing something here? Surely this should be possible.

It is possible, just not intuitive. Grab the corner of the crop and drag it sideways. You'll get the hang of flipping the crop after a few tries.

CUSTOM ASPECT RATIO SQUISHING IMAGE

I have a 720x486 clip that I'm cutting into a 300x250 sequence. Problem I'm finding is in both square & DV pixel aspect ratios, my image is being "squished" both horizontally and vertically.
Any ideas on how to keep my original D1 aspect ratios within a modified 300x250 sequence?

Is there no way to place a D1 clip into a custom aspect sequence without it modifiying the original clip?
As long as your Pixel Aspect ratio is correct, you should not see distortion. FCP will scale a clip when you drop it in, but it should not distort it.
In my experience, this works best if you start with an 8-bit sequence (aka 720x486) and then alter its Aspect Ratio - not its Pixel Aspect Ratio, though - from CCIR 601 NTSC (40:27) to Custom. Then alter your frame size to 300x250.
Of course, once you've placed your clips into the sequence, you'll need to remove the scaling (but it should not distort any of them).
I've had to do things in unique aspect ratios, and I've never had an issue so long as I've done it this way.

That's actually a great idea that you brought up, although it still isn't quite suited for my case.
By the time I've gone into projects, I would have typed in the ratio already. But I can see the benefit of doing this batch.

I've always liked how lightroom presets worked (you could have presets of many different settings into one easily selectable one), versus Aperture only having presets for individual adjustments. Your method would come really close to a global preset as in Lightroom. I've been thinking about this for such a long time!

Custom Aspect Ratio

I am working on a project that is using a custom 1:1 aspect ratio display, or a series of them. I need to produce some "mock up" content on the display, is there any way to export a 1:1 DVD to play on the displays HDMI in?

As Jim says, you may need to find a player like my IO-Data (way old and no longer available) that plays Windows Media files from a CD or DVD or USB. But mine is Component video, not HDMI.
Or, get a small PC with HDMI output from the video card to play your video. Maybe even a laptop.
On the other hand, what would the 1:1 player do with a 16:9 or 4:3 image? If it center cuts it, then just drop your footage on to a 16:9 or 4:3 sequence with black bars on the side and see how it looks.

How do I import custom aspect ratios (768x1024)?

When I drag a 768x1024 clip to the timeline it says that the video properties of this clip are not recognized and it offers no option for real custom dimensions. The strange thing is that when i scrub the clip in the area above the timeline, the staging area, it recognizes the aspect ratio as 768x1024 and the display shows the video perfectly.
I've tried selecting 2k and cropping in Compressor but that did not work. Any ideas on how i can get app to understand 768x1024? Or how I can use compressor to crop what it does understand (2k) down to the aspect ratio i need?

Here's what I did on a PC. Should work similarly on a Mac.
Open Adobe Media Encoder CS6.
Select your customer preset.
From the "Preset" menu, select "Export", and choose somewhere to temporarily save the preset file.
In AME CC, you then need to import these files.

How to Measure Custom Aspect Ratios???

I am curious about how to measure custom-made aspect ratios, for example, when using the "Widescreen" matte filter in FCP5, I select the "1.85:1" setting. If I increase the "border" setting to "10" does that make it 1.95:1? Thanks very much for your help!

Custom aspect ratio for Iscorama footage?

I'm planning on shooting some video with an Iscorama anamorphic lens on a Canon EOS 6D. The Iscorama gives the image a 1.5X horizontal squeeze that must be decompressed for the footage to be viewed normally. What I need to do is adjust the aspect ratio in iMovie '11 so that the horizontal dimension is expanded 1.5 times, while the vertical dimension retains its original value. This will result in the original 1.5:1 aspect ratio being rendered as 2.25:1. Is this possible to do in iMovie '11?

Customized aspect ratio

Hi,
Im trying to create a project in FCPX with an aspect ratio of 3840x1080, however it appears that FCPX doesn't support customised aspect ratios. Is this correct?
If i want to achieve this how can I. I read somewhere that i may need to use Motion, is this true...i have no idea how to do that even though i have the software.

You can't create *projects* with nonstandard sizes, but you can workaround this limitation if you follow the instructions here:

Does FCE support custom aspect ratios (eg. Macbook's 1280*800)?

I've recorded some screencasts with Screenflow, and I need some crossfades and basic titles in them. I was going to do it all in iMovie, but iMovie only supports 4:3, iPhone, and 16:9 aspect ratios, and I don't really want to crop or letterbox my movies. My movies were recorded on a 13" Macbook at 1280*800.
I looked at the manual, but I couldn't find the answer.

How to set custom aspect ratio for vertical video?

I need to have a vertical video (720x1080) rather than 1080x720. In the old FCP under project properties, one was able to change the ratio without a problem. On FCP X, the only formats avaible are all horizontal. Am I missing something? Help-thanks!

Thank you Tom. That was very helpful! Is there away to make it export on those dimmensions too? with the compund clip I got it to look good, but the export option is only 1080x720 with black on both sides.

Help With LightRoom Aspect Ratio Settings

I have created some custom Aspect Ratio settings to the crop tool but I now want to delete them as I entered them wrong.
Can anyone tel me how I can delete the custom ones I have made or reset back to defaults.
I am guessing they are written out to a file somewhere.
