Remove edges in closely curved strokes?

As you can see, the base for the shape is fluid and curved, but since it is so close and big it creates corners. Is there any way, besides expanding the stroke and curving it manually, to remove the edges? Preferrably while still maintaining the editabiliy of the stroke.

Baard,
You might also (working on a copy) try a combination of Handle and Anchor Point adjustment, changing the directions and lengths of the relevant Handles and moving the Anchor Points a bit about.
When you look at the screenshot, the spine is rounded, but not enough: it has to be much more rounded to also have the concave edge of the stroke rounded.
You should be aware that it is necessary to change the actual shape. The task is to get as close as possible to the overall appearance.
The obvious combination would be a direction somewhat (further) away from the rounding and a moderate shortening, probably with a limited move.

  • Removing power lines using the Stroke path method

    I watched a video created by Adobe Product Manager Brian O. Hughes titled Adobe Max:  Hidden Gems in Photoshop an excellent video (see link below).  I have been trying his easy method of removing power lines from an image using the pen tool and stroke path method defined as follows:
    Using the pen tool create a path of the line to be removed.  Making sure the brush tool is small and set at 100% opacity;  click on the Spot Healing Brush making sure it is set to "content aware".  Then in the path panel click "stroke path" and it removes the line.
    Well I have followed these instructions several times, very simple, but it doesn't remove the line for me.  I can manually shift click the start and ending point and it removes it but using the stroke command within the path panel doesn't work.  I am making sure the path is active.
    Any ideas why it doesn't work for me?
    Thanks...........Ralph
    Here is the link to the video, his technique is listed near the end, @ minute 56:  http://www.youtube.com/user/Photoshop

    Hi jjMack, thanks for your response.  I found my problem after realizing that I hadn't terminated my pen line.  I didn't realize I had to click the end anchor point to complete the line,  I thought since the line was obvious on the image that it had been created and  thought I couldn't see it in the paths panel because it was so small (these old eyes aren't what they used to be).  When clicking on the last anchor point it could easily be seen on the paths panel..  I just don't use the pen tool enough so I didn't realize my error.  Learn something everyday.  Incidentally, I had set the stroke path on the paths panel to Spot Healing Brush and only used the tools menu to confirm that content aware was selected.
    Thanks again JJ................Ralph

  • How can i find area under a closed curve

    I am having set of Y-values w.r.t X-values.When i am using numerical integration.vi to measure area, it is showing wrong answer.Is there any other vi to find the area under a closed curve.

    Is the dt constant between your values? The numerical integration.vi needs them to be...
    What's the correct answer depends on how you are to interpolate between the points. The numerical integration.vi allows you to select between a number of approaches (Simpson's rule, trapezoidal etc..). It does not allow integrating the values as if it were a histogram...If that is what you want to do then all you need to do is to add the values and then multiply the result by dt...
    When you say that the answer is incorrect, could you give an example array, dt and correct result?
    If the curve is supposed to be a special function you could use regression analysis to find the formula of the curve and then integrate that...

  • Finding area inside a closed curve of a XY graph ?

    My aim is the calculus of the area inside a closed curve of a XY graph. Could you send me the VI's diagram ?
    Thank you very much.

    I don't think anyone in this forum will do your work for you ;-), but here's a hint: For every two consecutive points, calculate the area of the trapezoid generated by the two points and the corresponding points on the X axis. Add up the (signed) areas, and you have your total area. By signed, I mean that that the area should be positive when going from left to right and negative when going from right to left, or vice versa. The sign of the calculated area will depend on the orientation of your curve.
    Probably some of the integration VIs can do the trick as well, at least for some special cases.

  • Ai CS6 - Issue when outlining a curved stroke

    Hi,
    I am using Illustrator CS6 and attempting to outline a stroke which has round caps on each end.
    It seems to every so often (and in this case when I have the curve perfect for me) that when I outline the path one of the caps dissapears.
    Does anyone have a clue as to why this is happening?
    thanks

    swam,
    No clue, but you may try the list.
    The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
    If possible/applicable, you should save curent artwork first, of course.
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

    I know how to do this in LabVIEW 4.x and 5.x but
    I don't know in LabVIEW 3.x. Where are examples in 3.x both

    You can drop back to the original method of removing label borders -
    paint them transparent. (select "T" as the color, then paint the label)

  • Jagged edges on vector curves

    When I create a vector shape (in this case a rectangle of about 600px wide and then use the pen tool to make a curved top) the curves are not smooth they look a little jagged/blurred - not as bad as hardline or feathered but not like I'd expect a vector curve. I am using 1px-soft with the edge anti-alias. I can get them to look slightly better by feathering 1px but I don't really want the blur of a 1px feather.
    How can I get smooth vector curves in Fireworks?
    Thanks

    Apparently it's an innate flaw in FW but I don't recall anyone ever addressing whether or not it will or can be fixed. Which is strange, considering FW is on its umpteenth release...

  • Can't find so can't remove mystery streak on curves adjustment layer

    Take a look at the attached image. I'm working with a psd file someone gave me. There's a weird bluish streak on the top one that I'm trying to get rid of. You'll notice it's on a curves adjustment layer. At least I assume it is. I made that layer red in the layers palette. When I turn it off, the blue streak goes away (see bottom image). I want the curves adjustment... just not the blue streak. I can't figure out how to get rid of it! It's definitely part of that layer... but I can't "find" it. I can't get rid of it by filling the adjustment layer with black or white. I can't select it. I can't do anything other than turn off that layer! Any ideas? I'm not sure it's a streak. It may be something is erased? But again, I can't select it so I can't fix it. Any ideas? Thanks!

    How about the mask that's on the group?
    This is the kind of thing that's very difficult to diagnose without having the PSD file to look over.

    when I open firefox it used to have 1 line on it now it has a 2nd line below the first but if i try to close the bottom line it closes the whole window . I feel I do not need 2 bars @ the top cause it just takes up extra space @ the top which in turn cause me to lose space in my main box how do we correct this or should I just start using another browser and delete firefox . I would like to keep firefox but I am getting tired of the 2 bars @ the top . thanks Mrs McKinney

  • Adobe Air Cookies Removed When App Closed?

    Hi,
    I have a flex app which I would also now like to offer an Air client for. I don't want to create a new authentication system just for the Air app, I just want to use the cookie/session setup that I already have in place.
    The cookies work and after logging in to the AIR app I can make subsequent requests without being asked to authenticate again, the problem is that the cookie seems to be deleted when the client is shut down, meaning that when I restart the air client I have to log in again which is obviously not acceptable for my users.
    Is this expected behaviour in AIR and if so, what is the work around?
    Cheers,
    Chris

    Hi Chris,
    AIR uses the underlying operating system stack for managing cookies. As such, cookies can be shared between different AIR applications and with browsers that use OS stack (e.g. Internet Explorer on Windows).
    From the official documentation as well as my experiments, cookies are preserved between application restarts.
    I suspect the application uses session cookies for authentication -- these are meant to be cleared when the browser exits and for a good reason (mostly security). AIR clears session cookies when the application closes, unlike some browsers (e.g. Firefox) that don't always clear them.
    From what I can tell, you have 2 choices here:
    change the authentication system to not use session cookies anymore -- I strongly suggest *NOT* to do this.
    write some code in the application to read/write the credentials from another kind of storage when run in AIR, for instance using the Encrypted Local Store. You could do this by inspecting the value of flash.system.Capabilities.playerType (see http://help.adobe.com/en_US/FlashPlatform/reference/actionscript/3/flash/system/Capabiliti es.html#playerType ). You would have to write some AIR specific code, but it wouldn't require you to rewrite the authentication system.
    Hope this helps,
    Mihai

  • Varying the stroke colour used in a section of a closed path.

    Hi
    I'm using Illustrator CS6.
    I'm working with closed paths on an illustrated character. I have a leg overlapping a body for example. The leg is essentially a 4 sided shape but I only want a stroke on 3 sides. On the 4th side I don't want a stroke on it so that the leg blends with the body. I first thought about using the shape builder tool to merge the 2  shapes to see what that would look like but they won't merge for some reason. Can't see why from the help.
    Then I tried to use the width tool to drop the stroke on the 4th side down to a 0 width for the side I want ... but that didn't work either.
    Can anyone tell me how I can change a closed shape so that a section of the shape has a different stroke colour (i.e. none!) from the rest of the shape? All ideas gratefully received.
    Arisaig67

    Hi Everyone
    Thanks for the tips to date. I'm going to mull some over, some I've already tried. Note to self - it would have been helpful if I had posted a rough example to illustrate from the outset. So here's one now and a summary of where I'm at. This is a crude example showing my scenario. Jacob's right in that I want the leg on top of the body with the strokes showing.
    To have a closed curve, I understand that I have to close the top of the leg off (red line here)? (I'm still quite new to illustrator but have used other packages before). I ideally want to keep the leg separate as I find that easier for using draw inside and using the feathering effect for creating shade and light. However I don't want the top line to actually appear. Since I don't know how to close but not have the top line, I have in earlier examples been clipping and joining the curves where it connects with the body as per earlier suggestions. In this case, with the "jutting out" part of the leg above the body line now essentially a line, rather than a shape. However that's disadvantageous for light and shade as I can't then use the draw inside so accurately for shading on the leg if it becomes one with the body (draw inside compensates a little for my hamfistedness with the tablet!).
    I may be banging up against a limitation in illustrator but rather than flounder in my ignorance, I decided it was better to find out once and for all from the collective genius and experience of the illustrator community! My developing sketching skills may alse be limiting the avenues I am trying to explore, so thanks to date for the differetn suggestions that have already expanded my perspective!
    When I get home tonight I'll try the suggestions I haven't tried yet and report back.
    As for shape builder - I don't know why it's not working. I'm following the same steps as when it does work for me! draw inside is the same - some times it works, sometimes it doesn't and I haven't differentiated why yet. I know draw inside needs just one shape selected but sometimes even that doesn't work. I need to interrogate my stuff more closely. it's a crazy, parrellel learning point ride with illustrator but loving every minute of it!
    thanks again!

  • How can I make the edges of the JSC component curved?

    It is a very common practice to make the edges curved in web development. Curved edge looks attractive and professional. (for example see blog.com)
    How can I make the edges of the JSC component curved? For example, consider Textfield component, how to make the the sharp edges smooth and curved?
    Thank you very much.

    Follow the steps below implement rounded edges for tabs in a tabset component:
    1)Create 2 images: level1_selected.jp and level1_deselct.jpg to be used as the background for these tabs. Thse images can be easily craeted using windows paint software. Just ceate a rectangular image of size 200X30 and draw a rounded rectangle on it.
    2) Redefine the following styles in your application stylesheet(originally defined in css_master.css)
    .Tab1Div td.Tab1TblSelTd {
         background-color:#EDF5F8;width: 200px;height:40px;background-image:url(images/level1_selected.jpg)
    .Tab1Div td.Tab1TblSelTd {
         background-repeat:repeat-x;background-position:left bottom;border-bottom:none
    .Tab1Div td {
         background-color:#EFEBEF;width: 200px;height:40px;background-image:url(images/level1_deselect.jpg);border:none
    .Tab1Div td {
         background-repeat:repeat-x;background-position:bottom left
    a.Tab1Lnk:link, a.Tab1Lnk:visited {
         display:block;padding:8px 15px 0px;font-weight:bold;text-align:center
    Results: By doing this you'll have the selected and unselected tabs show up with rounded egdes and also the selected tab will look bigger than the unselected tas making it more prominent.

  • A curved, hourglass-like, stroke?

    I need to draw strokes that either taper from wide to thin, thin to wide, or remain the same width. Often a stroke will be curved. I use the Path2D class to achieve nice-looking curved strokes. However, I don't see a way to vary the width while making the stroke:
    Graphics2D g2 = (Graphics2D) g;
    Path2D.Double stroke = new Path2D.Double();
    stroke.moveTo(65, 32);
    stroke.curveTo(65, 55, 58, 65, 52, 70);  // entire stroke of width "10"
    g2.setStroke(new BasicStroke(10, BasicStroke.CAP_BUTT, BasicStroke.JOIN_BEVEL));
    g2.draw(stroke);In the above case, a good way to draw would be to start with a width of 10, then with about 10% of the length remaining to be written, begin narrowing the stroke. The very end would be a tip of about width 1.
    To achieve a narrowing stroke, I have written a class that implements PathIterator and fed that to the Path2D class via the append() method. It kind of works, but calculating the points (using graph paper) took over one hour, and the result looks horrendous. All the points need to be re-calculated. And so I have a new sheet of graph paper, and am miserable. This strategy cannot possibly be the correct one, right?
    I am never going to get a clean-looking, narrowing, curved stroke by implementing PathIterator and using graph paper to determine the points in the narrowing part of the stroke, right? So, what should I do? What shape / strategy is appropriate?

    You're on the right track and you're halfway there, Lance! You'll notice that when you click on the shape once, it gets the resizing handles. When you click a second time (NOT double click, that lets you edit text inside a shape) you'll see little red dots at each of the points. If you double-click one of those you'll see the line will take a different path through the point and it'll have two handles now. Grab those handles and you'll be able to reshape the curve.
    So basically, lay out a pattern of dots following the shape that you want to create. After you've finished the shape, go back and double-click all the points. Then, adjust each one until the entire shape looks like what you want.
