Remove expired rental movies on iPad

I cannot remove old (over 1 year) expired movies from my iPad.  The only place you can see them is in the drop down when the ipad is synced to itunes. They are greyed out.  if you click on the down arrow on a movie it takes you to ITunes store to purchase or rent again.  You cannot see them on the ipad through the Vidoe app/movies and they do not show on the tabs that you use to choose what you want to sync.  This is just bothersome becasue i like to keep the ipad clean.  Here is a screen shot  - might be helpful.  I updated to IOS 5.0.1 but I am sure that is not the problem. I have already tried a hard reboot without luck.

i have the exact same issue.
set up is =>  ipad 2, ios5.01, itunes 10.5, osx 10.7.2.
six old rental movies show up on the ipad's drop down menu.  all are greyed out.  the only way to delete them is to check, in the summary page, the "manually manage music and videos" option.  once i do that i can delete the six old rental movies.  alas, the next time the ipad is connected to itunes, the movies show up again.  i tried to restore original settings for the ipad several times and that did not work.  i restored from backup, that did not work.
i should add that the rental movies do not show up on the ipad when launching the video app.  the only place they show up is on that drop down menu as described above.  to add insult to injury, i think the ipad is still trying to "download" the movies which is why now, and since i upgraded to ios 5, i can never complete the sync process (whether through the usb port or through wifi).  the sync process will always hang eternally at step 5 or 6 with the message "waiting for items to copy".
i think this is an ios 5 bug.  i have seen other discussions here that point to the same error, but with different causes such as voice memos, photos...   i believe old rentals fall in the same category.  although other users have found solutions to the hang sync by making changes to settings for voice memos, photos... unfortunately i have not found anyway of getting rid of the old rental movies as of yet.
any help out there?

Put it in DFU and do an update. This will not only update it, but it will remove all settings. DFU =  hold menu+play while plugging it in.

  • Cancel or delete partially downloaded rental movie on iPad... how?

I have a partially downloaded rental movie on my iPad in iTunes which I would like to cancel.
I have searched high and low, and it seems the only way I can do this is to connect to a computer which is not possible for me at this time. I was wondering if anybody had any other ideas on how I can achieve this?
Here are things I have already tried:
    - In the downloading section of iTunes, swiping left to write and selecting the delete button. Swiping does nothing, no delete button appears.
    - in Settings, General, Usage, Movies, choosing Edit and deleting... The movie doesn't appear in this section
If anybody can help, please do?
    - Ta, Krista.

I know i am replying to an old thread but thought someone else might find this useful. I paused the partial download, then wrote an email to Apple via the support link for iTunes store requesting that the download be removed from the queue explaining why ( in my case because i purchased HD instead of SD) and about 1 hour later received an email from Apple saying they cancelled my download and even offered me a refund. Not bad service I say.

  • Cant view rental movie on ipad

I have an ipad 2 with OS 7.1.2.  I have rented a couple of movies from itunes and cant seem to find them anywhere.  When I look in "Videos" they are not there, I don't even see a category for movies or rentals.  I have tried using the search feature, I've done a hard restart, I've logged out and back into iTunes.  When I plug my ipad into my computer and look at the contents in iTunes there, I can see that the movies are there, but they are nowhere to be found when I look in the ipad itself.
I am leaving soon for an almost 2 day train trip, I'd really like to be able to watch the movies I paid for, someone please help!!
    Thanks.

    Hi itskris,
I understand you have rented a couple of movies from iTunes on the computer, the following information will help you sync those rentals to your iPad.

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1390
Once the rental is downloaded, you can watch it on your computer or transfer the rental to a supported iPod, iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV (1st generation):
Connect the device and select it in iTunes.
    Click the Movies button.
Select the movie, and then click Move.
After all movies have been moved, click Apply in the lower-right corner of iTunes.
You must be connected to the Internet to transfer a rented movie.

    Hello Bob,
    Try this:
    1. Open iTunes and have the device attached.
    2. Click on the iPod Touch device (whatever you named it) in the left hand panel.
    3. Click Summary.
    4. Check "Manually manage movies and music".
    5. Click the drop down arrow to the left of the iPod Touch icon.
    6. Click Rented Movies.
    7. Try deleting the unwanted movies again.
    See if that helps.

  • Cannot transfer rental movie to ipad, itunes thinks it is already transferred to another device

    Hi,
Hopefully this is pretty straightforward. I downloaded a movie rental from iTunes store. When I attempted to move to my iPad (via manual sync) I got an error along the lines of the following: 'Cannot transfer movie rental as it is already transferred to another device'. I have rented movies multiple times from the iTunes store and did not encounter this issue. My laptop is authorized (I double checked). Correct me if I am wrong but if the rental appears in the iTunes library then technically it is not transferred.
    Thanks in advance!

I have purchased but never rented movies but from what I have read, your assumption is correct. Once you move the rental to an iDevice it should disappear from iTunes.
If you download a rented movie on your computer: You can transfer it to a device such as your Apple TV, iPhone, iPad, or iPod if it’s a standard-definition film (movies in HD can only be watched on your computer, iPad, iPhone 4, iPod touch (4th generation), or Apple TV). Once you move the movie from your computer to a device, the movie will disappear from your computer's iTunes library. You can move the movie between devices as many times as you wish during the rental period, but the movie can only exist on one device at a time.

  • Rental movie from iPad to appletv

Keep getting message "your apple tv is not authorized to play this content" when I try to play a movie via AirPlay from my ipad2 to apple tv.   First time it happened said it was a problem with the movie - happening again right now on a newly downloaded movie.  Anyone seen this?  Apple support can't figure it out.  Movies plays fine on iPad and other videos will play on apple tv.  Ready to return the apple tv. Any suggestions?  Have installed the latest OS update for the apple tv.

Thanks vazandrew. I'd not had any issues Airplaying iTunes rentals in the past. In any case, because Airplay wasn't working, I connected my iPad 3 to my television so I could mirror another iTunes movie rental. The mirroring worked, and when I changed the set-up so I could also connect my iPad to the charger, Airplay worked with no issues. Did starting a video stream with mirroring somehow fix the issue with Airplay not streaming video? Whatever happened, the problem is fixed.

  • How do I remove a rental movie from my iPhone?

I rented a movie directly on my iPhone.  I was able to watch the movie and then forgot about it,  Now, whenever I am not in a wi-fi spot, I get a message saying that a video is greater than 20 megabytes and can not continue downloading.  The video in the error message is the video I rented, so I opened up iTunes and sure enough, there is the video I rented several days ago trying to download.  However, even when I am in a wi-fi spot, I get "Download error.  Tap to retry".  I also noticed that the movie is still in my Videos app and the normal means of deleting videos does not work.
    PLEASE READ!!
I have already tried enabling Manually Manage Videos and Music.  There is not Rental option showing up under my iPhone when I click on the left arrow.

Installed as described in http://community.giffgaff.com/t5/Settings-for-your-device/Internet-and-MMS-setti ngs-APN-guide/ta-p/3489121#faq_no_2. All I did was use a pre-paid Sim - are they allowed to lock my phone - it was previously unlocked - I do not understand.
