Remove finder backgrounds in OS X Lion

How can I remove a finder background from the view options in Finder?  The background options are grayed out and I can't click on white or color or picture.  I'd like to go back to a basic white or color background.

The only way I found to fix this is to save a white background at high res, then drag it to the small square to change the background. Problem solved ! ! !
If you want to change it to any color go to another folder other that " all files " and select what you want.
Good luck.

  • Remove "Finder" from dock in Mountain Lion?

I would like to remove the Finder icon from my dock.
I know people are going to ask "Why?" Simply because, I don't like it being there.
I know Finder is always open and I know to close it would cause problems. I don't want to close it, I am just wondering if there is a way to remove, or hide it, from the dock so I don't have to see it.
    Thanks!

I found the solution a few years ago, and posted it on the forums I could find, but nobody seemed to propogate it.  The LSUI Element solution is FLAWED because the menu of the application dissapears when the application is running.
Anyway, the solution is to edit DockMenus.plist and add a "Remove from Dock" option to the "finder-running" category.  Then you can remove it by right clicking like normal.  You can find the remove from dock option in DockMenus, and then copy and paste it into the finder-running category.  And if you add it to the processes category, you can remove other running applications too!
    /System/Library/CoreServices/Dock/Contents/Resources/DockMenus.plist
Now, once you remove the Finder, it can only reappear if the Dock process is relaunched.  And this only happens when you log in.  So the best way to have your Finder icon always gone, is to make a small applescript which clicks the "Remove from Dock" option FOR you, and then put that applescript in your login items.
tell application "System Events" to tell process "Dock"
tell UI element "Finder" of list 1
                        perform action "AXShowMenu"
click menu item "Remove from Dock" of menu 1
              end tell
    end tell
This worked for Snow Leopard and it works for Mountain Lion too.  I'm assuming it worked for Lion also.

  • How to reliably remove Find My Mac from an old machine? (Lion and later)

    Hi,
My company buys old Macs and resells them. Our current process involves wiping the disk using Disk Utility and reinstalling the OS via NetInstall. Recently we've discovered that this process does not remove old Find My Mac controls from previous owners.
From some initial experimenting, my current hypothesis is that a machine's Find My Mac data is stored in the EFI partition, which is not wiped by Disk Utility. (I haven't even figured out how to wipe it with diskutil -- I've only managed to "re-virginize" the drive completely using gparted in Linux.)
Does anybody have any experience with this and the most streamlined way to deal with removing Find My Mac controls from a 10.7.2+ machine? I realize that this may be something Apple's not hugely willing to talk about publicly as the information could be used for nefarious purposes. In our case, it's completely legal resale.
    Thanks!

  • How Do I: Remove White Background From a Non-Standard Sized PDF?

Hello. Been a little while since I was last here.
My issue is pretty simple. I am creating a PDF in Acrobat Pro X from MS-Word 2007. My document is landscaped half-page sized (US), so dimensions are: 8.5" wide, 5.5" high.
When I attempt to print to PDF, the dimensions come out correctly, but there is a white background which is the size of a landscaped 8.5" x 11" sheet. Against this background, the 8.5" x 5.5" area is situated (nearly) centered vertically, but "right-justified" horizontally (see image). I need to find out how to fix this.
    Here's what I know:
    In MS Word:
For "Page Setup" (under Page Layout tab):
    - under Margins tab, orientation is landscape;
    - under Paper tab, "Paper size" is "Custom size", with Width 8.5", Height 5.5" ;
    - No changes under Layout tab.
    For "Preferences" (under Acrobat tab)
    - under Settings tab, "Conversion Settings" are a custom setting ("Advanced Settings"), with "Default Settings" of Width 8.5 inches and Height 5.5 inches.
When I Print > Adobe PDF:
    For "Properties" in Print window:
    - Under Layout tab, "Orientation" is "Landscape" ;
    - Under Paper/Quality tab, "Paper Source" is custom with Width 8.5" and Height 5.5".
    - Under Adobe PDF Settings tab, "Default Settings" is "High Quality Print (Custom)" with (Custom) being the settings I set under Acrobat > Preferences.
    - Also under Adobe PDF Settings tab, "Adobe PDF Page Size" is custom with Width 8.5" and Height 5.5".
    The result is pictured above.
The last thing I did before posting this was run Help > Repair Acrobat Installation in Adobe X. Any suggestions? You can't do worse than I have.

  • How can I remove the background sound from the headphone jack for my MacBoo

for my MacBook Air problem adding music intensifier (Panasonic ST-HT1000) to give it an unpleasant sound background that sounds like a whiz, it's not so loud, but it is an unpleasant .. after a short time can get used to, but the fizz does not pass, however, believe that it is a big problem.
Further I notice that when MacBookAir disconnected from the charger, it remains quieter sound.
At first thought that the headphone jack (3.5 mm Headphone:
Connection: 1/8-Inch Jack) or wiere have problem, but tried 3 different cables, but that does change enything, the problem remains.
When I added iPhonu3GS playing - the background sound were not, then everything is OK!
How can I remove the background sound from the headphone jack for my MacBook Air 13?

There is no way to bring that up unless you have it typed in a document. You can use My Support Profile to find a list of serial numbers that have been purchased or registered with your Apple ID.

  • ID 5.5 Interact. PDF, cannot remove white background for Multi-States and buttons.

    Hi
I am working on an Interactive PDF Portfolio document. The problem I have is with Multi-State object feature with several buttons going to states that need to be exported as a SWF and imported back into InDesign 5.5. See, the background of my entire doc. is GREY, but when I import the SWF (as directed in Lynda.com videos correctly) and export the entire doc as Interactive PDF and view it in Adobe Acrobat Pro (version 10.1.1) is when all the trouble starts.
When I try to get rid of the WHITE background around the Multi-State objects and the buttons for them (using Select Object Tool and then control+click on it to change the Properties to Transparent Background Appearance) it does not change, even when I go forward and backward to the page.
Does the option of removing white background and making it transparent work only for Animation, but not Multi-State feature with buttons?
Can anyone suggest any other tecnique to create a nice slide show that works in Interactive PDF in ID CS5.5? Please..
    Sincerely,
    in need of help,
    Eve

I have 8 Multi-State objects in one stack on the left and the 8 buttons for each state in the stack on the right. The background of my document is dark grey. There is space inbetween Multi-State objects and the buttons that show the grey background. But after exporting as SWF the Multi-States together with the buttons and placing the SWF back in the PDF file, the space inbetween Multi-States and buttons that is supposed to show the grey background appears white. The problem is that I cannot even change this white background to transparent in Acrobat Pro, as well. I used to do that to animations and it worked, but not in this case.

  • How do I remove the background from a movie / sound problems

Apologies, not really sure what I’m doing…
How do I remove the background from a movie I made?
I imported a QT movie at 368/272 pixels, but for whatever
reason the HTML jumps up to 550/400.
The movie is still 368/272 but there is a background border
making it 550/400. Tried all sorts of settings in Publish but
can’t get rid of it. Can I keep the movie (and controller)
    and not the background?
I can get round it by changing the background colour, but
surely there must be another way.
Also: My QT file was fine but the .flv has a stuttering
sound, any idea what could cause that?
    Thanks, and Thanks!

  • Problem with "Remove find my iphone"

Somone stole my iphone 4s and I used the remote procedure "find my iphone" but the device appeared offline. In any case, if it were connected to the internet I would come back a signal. The problem is that then I accidentally clicked "remove find my iphone" and therefore there aren't any more device, so I think that the thieves could use the device with no problem. There is no way to undo this?

    No, you cannot undo it.

  • Changing my finder background doesn't work

When I try to change my background options, it doesn't allow me too, any solutions so that I can make it possible to change my finder background?

    Hi,
You mean doing this in iCon View ?
It can of course be a colour
As has been said it does not translate to the other views or to Search results (which is what "all my Files" is).
    EDIT
Also the pic does not "tile" and has to be very big if you are going to want it as the background during a Scroll.

  • I Cant view thumbnail versions of Raw Files (.arw) in finder when i upgraded to Lion.

I Cant view thumbnail versions of Raw Files (.arw) in finder when i upgraded to Lion.
It worked in Snow Leopard without a problem.
    Any Solutions?

    Ben,
I also take photos with a sony DSLR. Not a professional one but theAlpha700.
So this was one annoying issue.
But, I haven't found the reason why, after a few days the problem returned.
This happened after setting up my preferences. When we do this, some how, the preferences file becomes 'corrupted' or changes any bit/byte that interferes with icon display.
But if we repeat the process (delete prefs files), things become all right again.
    hope this helps.

  • I need to find Background job duration stored table name.

    Dear Experts,
    Please guide me in this
How can I find Background job duration stored table name
I got some details from table TBTCO but unable to find duration of the job.
    Thanks in advance.
    Vinod.

there is no table which contains the "time duration of the job" you have to calculate on the fly the by taking the (SY-UZEIT - TBTCO-STRTIME)  * 60
    (Current time - Start time ) * 60 =  xxx Seconds

  • Tips for removing a background with a bunch of people?

Main Objective:  How can I change the background behind a bunch of kids? My quick selection tool is quirky! Like the HS kids in the pic….
The 2nd photo is what I am looking to do.
When I try the quick selection tool, it's all wonky & quirky now.  I can't select little bits any more! It just basically takes the whole stinkin' page! What did I do?!  Are there defaults?
On watched video number 85 today, I tried to use my stylus and the bamboo pad. (Good grief; that's another story...it moves & I'm not even touching the pad; what's up with that?! Way too confusing, so I gave up!)
    Anyway..this is what I need.
What is easier for me to remove the background?  The kids?  Pretend I didn't say yes to help with this project?
All the video tutorials on how to remove backgrounds is always on a perfect object...not a real life mess of a class.  So... HELP!!!
    Please.
This is WAY over my head; but I'm trying. Really.
On a mac with CC membership.

When Quick Select and Refine edge start to go wrong, it is probably best to escape out of Refine Edge, and tidy up the Quick select selection.  Toggle Quick mask on and off with the Q key, so you can zoom in and add and remove to get a better selection.
If things are still not working for you, increase the contrast dramatically with an addjustment layer, andadd a copy merged layer to the top of the stack.  Use this layer to make and refine your selection, and when happy, OK it.  Turn off the copy merged layer and asdjustment layer you used to increase contrast.  Select the layer with the children and Cmd j to copy to a new layer.
    Or probably better...
While in Refine edge, click on decontaminate colours, which will force a new layer with layer mask as the output option.  OK that.
Now Cmd click the layer mask on that new layer > turn off the two layers mentioned above, and add a layer mask to the children layer.  Refine Edge is seldom 100%, and having a layer mask allows you clean things up.

  • How do you remove the background of a presentation?

I am a student and all my PowerPoint lectures are sent to me before they begin.  I take those lectures put them into keynote then use "Open in another app" to open as a PDF in notability.
Notability allows me to record the audio of the lecture and take notes directly on the slides.  However, some teachers use dark or colourful backgrounds that make annotating them a bit frustrating.  I want to remove the backgrounds in the same way I could if I selected print "With Backgrounds: off"
Just to be clear I do not want a hard copy of the presentation.  I want to have a digital version without the background that looks similar to the hard copy version keynote makes when you select print "With Backgrounds: off"
    Thanks

    Fresaca,
See: Removing the Background or Unwanted Elements from an Image on page 143 of the Pages User Guide PDF. If you haven't already downloaded the guide, you can get it via the Help menu.
The tool you will use is Instant Alpha.

  • Removing & Replacing Background in JPEG.

I am a newbie & relatively clueless on using Photoshop Elements 8 with Windows 7.  I don't understand the technical terms and am a hands-on learner.  I need to remove the backgrounds on some photos and replace it with a neutral background that isn't flat.  I want the main image to appear on a single color fabric type background to give the image depth.  I have tried the eraser tool but it will not work at all.  I want a click & remove way if possible.

I used the Quick selection tool in PSEv.8 to select the cake and the pedestal, but the other selection tools may be used as well. You should see "marching ants" around the selection
Next I went to Layer>new>layer via copy. This places the selection on its own layer
I opened a new, blank layer underneath the layer created in step #2
I filled this layer with a pattern (Edit>fill layer>pattern -----used wood pattern, several to select from among those in the default library)
Hope that this is what you are after. One can make or copy other backgrounds, of course. The cake looks great, would love to have a piece!!
