Remove Folder From iTunes Songs

I wish to replace my large database of music on the HDD of my DVD player/recorder and to do this I need to remove the folder from the various albums and songs held in iTunes. Does anyone have an easy answer to this problem that iTunes has created for me?

When I transferred my music collection from Windows Media Player to iTunes it consisted of one folder with thousands of individual files with the track name and composer or singer etc. In this format I was able to upload to my LG DVD player/recorder HDD.
I now wish to add more tracks to my LG machine and have discovered that iTunes has placed each track into a folder and each album into a folder as well. My LG player cannot read the songs because of the folder. It cannot see the tracks to be played.
I am looking for a way to strip the tracks from the folders so that each track can be seen in one long list.
I hope this explanation is clearer.

  • Problem removing folder from Lightroom

    HI,
I'm new to Lightroom (using 5) and I am trying to get some photo uploads organized. When I imported them, they came in a folder that was poorly organized so I moved them into folders that I preferred. That was fine. BUT now the original folder in lightroom is empty (I deleted from finder after emptying it) and when I remove it from my lightroom ALL the other folders go with it. The funny part is, the total picture count still shows that all the pictures are in lightroom and accounted for, but the folders are no longer there and accessible.
I have attached a screen shot of the folders. I would like to remove the 2014 folder at the top, but when I do, the desktop folder and everything under it goes as well. Why? And how do i prevent that from happening? THANKS!!
Ultimately, I would like to move the 2014 folder from being on the desktop as well.

Your lack of tact was a little bit insulting, regardless of when it happened. No big deal though. I digress.
Since you cannot view folders in iTunes, you cannot delete folders thru iTunes.
You could put all the songs you want to delete into a playlist then select all the songs and Command Delete to delete them all at once.
That's the point. There should be an easier way. But putting them into a playlist before deleting them would be even more work than just deleting them the first time you click them. So this isn't really helpful either.
Ed's answer was helpful because he addressed the concerns of the original poster. But it also illustrated the need for iTunes programmers to include a feature to remove a folder from your iTunes library as easily as you can add them. If the best way to remove 200GB worth of music from your itunes library is to change the file extensions, then click to delete every single file with an exclamation point next to it; there is quite simply a flaw in design.
Apple iTunes programmers need to make the adjustment. Right next to the "File" command: "Add folder to library", you could have a command to "Remove folder from library."  Or a "Manage Library" option would be great. Itunes obviously knows what folders it's library consists of so why not allow it to populate a list of them with the option to deselect undesired folders? Why hasn't this been done in one of the numerous iTunes updates? Is it really that hard to understand?

  • TS1389 I need help removing UAC from itunes..

I need help removing UAC from itunes so it will not allow me to open itunes. Everything I have read from other comments that you shouldn't turn off your user account control. I just to be able to open itunes. Can anyone help me with this problem?? Greg, ogrady612@yahoo,com

I had this problem too but you do not need UAC to be turned on.
Click on start and search for 'uac' in the search box at the bottom and click on 'Change User Account Control Settings' when it comes up. Move the slider to the bottom when the window appears and save the changes and your done!
It's worked for me and my uac has been off for months without causing me any problems!
    Hope this helped

  • What happens to content on Apple TV when I remove it from iTunes?

Need to relocate my MacBook Pro where I can't use it with Apple TV (an "extended temporary" condition). Want to remove Apple TV from iTunes and use the Apple TV directly with the iTunes Store and not via the MBP. Before I do this, I want to know what happens to the purchased content on the Apple TV after it is removed from iTunes. I want the Apple TV to retain the content that's currently on it. Apple TV has latest version 2 upgrade.

Welcome to the  Discussion Forums.
Why remove everything from itunes. Simply take your laptop away and do what ever it is you will be doing with it, while its away your tv will keep everything that's already on it. When it does eventually come back any content purchased on the tv will get transferred back to the laptop.

  • Remove movie from iTunes *and* disk

    Hi,
I add movies to iTunes which are stored on a network drive, and are not stored in the iTunes library.
When I remove these from iTunes, it does not trash the file on the disk.
Is there a simple way to remove the movie from iTunes, and trash the file, all in one go?
At the moment I do the following:
    - ctrl-click
    - show in finder
    - trash file
    - remove movie from iTunes
This is a tedious process, especially when I want to get rid of multiple movies.
I could probably write a script to do what I want, but surely there's a way built into iTunes, and I just haven't found it yet.

Beat you to it, but I'll give you credit anyway.
For anyone else who's interested, this script seems to do the trick:
    http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=deleteselectedfiles
It's a bit slow though, and has too many dialogs for my liking, so I may edit it, to see if I can speed things up a bit.
Edit: this script seems a bit quicker:

  • Removing podcasts from iTunes 11.1 without removing subscriptions

After recently upgrading to the newest version of iTunes and selecting the Podcasts item in the left column I selected to sync my subscriptions with my Mac after being prompted.  All of my podcasts now show up in iTunes, however I'd now like to turn this off as I never listen to them on my Mac and don't need iTunes keeping subscriptions up to date.  I haven't found a way to turn this off and when I delete a podcast from the "List" view in iTunes it also removes them in the Podcasts app on my iPhone.  How can I remove them from iTunes without affecting the ones that are on my phone?

I'm having the exact same issue with this version of iTunes.
I have podcasts dating all the way back to 2006, my library is unmanageable now.
With a previous unrelated iTunes issue, the "repair" option in the "Add or Remove programs" (under Windows XP) fixed my problem but not this this time.

  • Removing files from iTunes folder that are no longer in library

    Hi all,
Quick question that I require help answering.
I'm trying to tidy up my iTunes library/ Physical storage.
I currently have 1600 songs within iTunes, but through bad management in the past I actually have (I know this after reimporting the library to another machine as a test) 1700 songs within the physical iTunes Folder structure. What I need in order to slipstream my storage is to remove those extra 100 songs lying about in my physical folder without losing the 1600 currently in use and present in iTunes.
Does anyone have an easy way of removing the extra files?
    Thanking in advance,
    Steve

Use File > Add folder to library... and select your iTunes Media folder. Anthing already in the library will be ignored, anything else will be added. Once the process is complete sort the library on the Date Added column and remove the tracks that have just been added, sending them to the recycle bin.

  • Removing music from itunes without affecting music on ipod

How can you delete music from the itunes library as well as the itunes folder, but not have these same songs deleted from the ipod that syncs with the computer?

You can do this if you turn off automatic synchronization. Connect your iPod and go to the iPod Options and select the "Manually manage" option. It will then not automatically remove the items from the iPod if you delete them from iTunes. You'll have to drag songs and videos from your library or playlist to iPod in the Source list to add new tracks.
Note that it's not a good idea to depend solely on your iPod to have your only copy of items that you've purchased from the iTunes Store or that would otherwise be difficult to replace. I strongly recommend that you make a backup copy of such material (on CD, DVD, or an external hard drive) before you delete it from iTunes.

  • Best app to remove duplicates from iTunes 2014

    Hi All,
I've been trying to research the best application to sort and remove duplicates from my iTunes library. I have over 7000 songs and iTunes built in duplicate finder doesn't look at the track fingerprint, which is useful for those songs which are labelled "Track_1" etc.
Has anyone reviewed any recent products? I was looking at TuneUp, but after reading so many negative comments, I've decided not to go down that path. I would prefer a program that did most of the work for me, due to the amount of songs. Happy to pay for a good product...
I do have MusicBrainz Picard, which has done a great job of tagging, but don't remove duplicates.
    Thanks in advance :-)

Tune up is a great app.  When they moved from version 2 to version 3 is when it went to crap and all heck broke loose.  They shut their doors  but they have since re opened and went back to developing  version 2.  I use that version and I am pretty happy with it as being an overall cleanup utility.  I also use Musicbrainz and a couple of other utilities but in the end if you have an enormous library 20k plus then you are going to have a few slip through.  I would probably go with Tuneup if I were you and a thorough third party duplicate finder.  Dupe Guru's music edition seems to do a pretty good job.

  • Remove files from iTunes, but leave them on iPod?

I have an 80GB iPod, but only 70GB on my computer harddrive. I want to remove some movies from iTunes to make space on my computer, yet leave those movies on the iPod. Is that possible? If so, how do I do that?
    Thanks

You can if you turn off automatic synchronization. Connect your iPod and go to the iPod Options and select the "Manually manage" option. It will then not automatically remove the items from the iPod if you delete them from iTunes. • How do I add and remove music from iTunes in iPhone?

I've been having trouble with my phone memory (16gb) being used up by music. I recently change setting to have it covert higher bit songs to 128 kbps which seemed to help.
I just converted to new iOs 7 and it started downloading all music from iTunes in my laptop—which overfilled the memory again.
I tried to go to manual sync and now I cannot see how to add or remove any music (and can't see the bar at the botto of the summary page which should tell me how the memory space is being used and what is available.

I don't know. It seeme to disappear after I check that I would manually sync.

  • Removing Items from itunes

I originally imported from a CD to itunes. I noticed there were no track names or album info so I named the tracks and entered info onto the CD then imported again to itunes. Then I went into my hard drive and deleted the originally imported tracks that had no names. When I went back to itunes the unnamed tracks wee still there, now with exclamation marks in front of each and when I try to highlight them and press delete nothing happens. The empty track names seems to be stuckk in iTunes.

iTunes has a library, which is a list of songs and that library points to files on the hard drive. If you go in and remove the files from the hard drive outside of iTunes, iTunes still has the song listed in the library, but since it can not find the file it give you the symbol. To delete these from iTunes, simply highlight the song in the library and hit the delete key.
In the future, do not delete that way again. Instead pick the songs in iTunes, highlight them and delete them. iTunes will then ask you if you want to remove them from the hard drive as well.

  • Can't copy playlist folder from itunes to iphone 6

    Hi,
I created a playlist folder in iTunes for a single artist.  I then created 60 playlists within the playlist folder for each album for that artist. It works great on iTunes because everything is organized.  I want that same organization on my iPhone 6.  However, when I try to copy that playlist folder with the 60 playlists to my iPhone 6 iTunes will not let me do this.  ITunes tells me "No items are currently in any playlists inside this folder" and does not recognize the playlists within the playlist folder.  They are there and I can play each playlist within the playlist folder.
BTW- I am using Windows 7 with the latest iTunes and iPhone software.
    Help!
    Thanks,
    Art

Your songs might be taking up too much room in your iPod.
Open iTunes, right-click on a song. Make sure the song is no bigger than 4 MB and it's a MPEG file.
Also, in iTunes, click "Edit" and then go down to "Preferences". Click the 'Advanced" tab and then the "Importing" tab. Make sure your songs are encoded using AAC Encoder and a high quality setting of 128 kpbs.
If your song information is different from what I just told you then this is the reason why your songs won't fit in your iPod and there's not enough room.

  • Remove iPad from itunes

I am trying to unlink/remove my wife's iPad from my iTunes account.  She has here own Apple account, but notice that some apps that I have purchased end up on her iPad.  How does someone delete/remove/unlink a device from iTunes?  I have opened my iTunes account, and there are only two devices listed, and her iPad is not one.  What else should I be looking for?
    Thanks,
    Anthonhy

You can remove the songs right on the iPad. This will not delete them from iTunes on your computer.
Launch the Music app and tap on Songs at the bottom. Swipe across a song in the list to bring up the red delete button. You can also tap on the Album tab at the bottom and tap and hold down on an album icon and the X to delete will pop up on the album. Tap the X to delete the album.
