Remove Hidden Software

I am helping a client who has found out that her phone (iphone 4) has some type of spy software on it. It is transmitting her location, messages sent and received and some other info. I am not very familiar with the ins and outs of the iphone OS
My assumption is her ex jail broke the phone and installed something on it.
We want to absolutely wipe any programs off the phone that might be there. I've been looking around a bit and I'm not quite sure what the best way to do this is.
I don't know if upgrading to the newest iphone 4 firmware would do it, or if we need to do something else also.
The client has no interest in remaining jail broken, they just want to be sure that their phone is clean and safe.
Can anyone suggest steps to do this?

After that is it safe to sync the iphone with itunes again? - I'm assuming any software that was installed through jailbroken means would not have been backed up to itunes, so we shouldn't have to worry about itunes restoring the spying software back to the phone right?

Hi,
I'm having major issues that I belive is down to a piece of software that was downloaded, but works remotely in the background. As such this software doesnt have a physical presence in my applications or recipets folder.
Is there anyway of removing or at least findign this software. Nothing turns up when I search for it.
I really need to resovle this quickly, I think that the software in question is disrupting my Final Cut Pro Capture function (which I need for work purposes on a daily basis).
Any help or advice is greatly appreciated,

That's a lot of packages Let's make the not unreasonable assumption that "bglive' and "main" are the important ones. These commands will tell us where they have been installed.
Open the Terminal (from /Applications/Utilities) and copy and paste the following into the Terminal window, one line at a time, with a return after each line:
lsbom -p fMT /Library/Receipts/boms/com.bitgravity.bitgravityLivebroadcast111.bglive.pkg.bom | head -n 4
lsbom -p fMT /Library/Receipts/boms/com.bitgravity.bitgravityLivebroadcast111.main.pkg.bom | head -n 4
This should give enough information to see where the packages were installed (if it's not enough, increase the '4' to '6' or something).
You can do the same for all the other packages once you've established what count you need.

1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off merely by the seeming complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the behest of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.

If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
[Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start Time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." I tried to update to the latest software for the iPhone 4 today, May 16th. After removing the software, I received an error message from iTunes and now my phone has no software and useless for everything including a phone call. I immediately went to Restore it to my last saved version and 4 hours later, I still have "iTunes is restoring the software on this iPhone. I am frustrated beyond belief as this happend twice when I had a 3G. Does anyone know how long it should take for a Restore on an iPhone 4 16 gb? Or if there is a fix for this? I'm about to throw away the phone and give up on iPhones forever. Thanks for any help you can give.

How to disable 'Remove Hidden Information' popup when closing PDF in Acrobat X on Mac?

How do I disable the function that causes the 'Remove Hidden Information' popup when closing PDFs in Acrobat X? I'm using OS X 10.9.4 on a Mac?
I've searched online and was directed to Preferences>>Security (enhanced) to uncheck 'Unable Enhanced Security', but it wasn't checked.
This box (see screen shot) opens each time I close a PDF. I'm forced to select an option before closing.

Go to the menu Acrobat>Preferences
In the Preferences window's "Categories" pane, select "Document"
In the "Hidden Information" section deselect both check boxes
Click the OK button
You should be good now.

See Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates. You may have to uninstall what you can, reboot and delete the named folders, then reinstall.

Remove Hidden Information tool

Hi,
I would have a question regarding Acrobat's 'Remove Hidden Information' tool. Under Tools, Protection there is the 'Remove Hidden Information' tool. When I click it the results can be seen on the left side. Under 'Comments and markups' the sum of objects can be seen. I figured out that it detects bookmarks, links (internal, external) and objects described here: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/acrobat/X/pro/using/WS58a04a822e3e50102bd615109794195ff-7e7f.w .html.
But it also detects some other objects as well which I am not aware of (based on the number of objects detected). I also know that it counts 2 objects when using 'Replace text' from the link above.
Does anybody happen to know what additional types of objects does this tool detects and how to search for them in the document?

I use Acrobat version 10.1.5

The hidden text is the collection of glyphs on the PDF page that use text rendering mode 3 (no stroke, no fill).
Any links placed in association with such hidden text are not "hidden" (that is not how it works with PDF Link annotations - see ISO 32000-1:2008).
Any Link annotation placed in a PDF are the same as any other Link annotation (with the exception, of course, of whatever the link's Action happens to be).
So, no special sauce for links that were placed in association with now removed "hidden text".
In context of what you've written it may be that you will have to select - Ctrl+click the Link annotations of interest then tap the Delete key.

How do you remove hidden purcased iphone applications (Apps) permanently?
When you delete the app from your iphone and also the from you Mac computer, they are just hidden and not deleted pernanently !!!!
There isn't and option to allow you to do this. Maybe this is a safeguard to secure and not to accidently delete purchases but as with most delete functions 2 or more levels can be built in with confirmation at each to minimise this but ultimately the user's need the option to completely temove all unwanted items purchased or not.

You can't delete the purchase record as far as I know.

File sizes explodes after removing hidden information

After removing hidden content in Acrobat Pro X (Tools/remove hidden content or Tools/sanitize) the file size increases, up to 10x (2 MB -> 20 MB). Save as optimized PDF only partly reduces the problem, file is still 3-4x the initial size. Document was created with Adobe PDF writer, but this problem occurs in principle also with other PDFs. Bug? Necessary? Workaround? Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Original file size after cropping ~27MB

Same file saved as optimized PDF after cropping AND after removing hidden information ~60MB

Hi,
Follow the steps below to delete the Software component:
1. Delete the created Data Types, Message Types, Message Interfaces, Message Mappings, Interface Mappings and other imported objects like RFC's or IDoc's. Activate all changes.
2. Then delete the namespace and the default datatypes present with the namespace after checking "objects are modifiable".
3. Then delete the SW component, after placing the radio button in "Not permitted".

Remove hidden text using SDK api

HI Guys,
I am new to SDK and would like to know if there is an API to remove hidden text functionality the one that described here. I need a separate .Net library on top of Acrobat SDK that could remove all hidden data from pdf and save it.
Please point me to an example or documentation where to start from, if it can be done?

I have found in sdk api the following method:
PDWordFinderAcquireVisibleWordList()
"Finds all words on the specified page that are visible in the given optional-content context" what does it means 'visible'? it is related with the 'heuristic' Acrobat uses to show 'hidden text'?
It is not clear also the 'PDOCContext ocContext' parameter this method uses.

I would dearly love Acrobat Pro X to sto prompting me to remove hidden information EVERY TIME I try to close a document.
