Remove keychain password requests

i must have turned on the keychain function on my iMac by mistake
i cannot now log onto iCloud in system preferences on my machine without it requesting a keychain password of which i know not what it is.
in addition, the machine keeps asking for the password to my 'login' keychain. again i dont know what this is.
these password prompts keep appearing
they are driving me mad
how can i get rid of this keychain function completely and go back to how it was before?

The last four deal exclusively with your .Mac account. There was a recent thread about mail passwords and a solution. However, since i don't use it, I don't remember the details. Search these forums or review the threads the past two or three days. A keychain password is required for all administrative-level tasks, such as logging in, logging into secured websites, sending/receiving mail, installing software, etc. Get used to it. BTW, launch Keychain Access, lock/unlock or unlock/lock the login.keychain, and then use Keychain First Aid to verify/repair your login.keychain. Log out and back in. That should do it.

  • Email 'keychain' password request

    /Users/lindsaypollard/Desktop/Picture 2.png
I am wondering if anyone else has the password chain pop up every time they send an email.
Once it goes to the outbox i can send it from there, but it gets tedious.
    Thanks for any help.
I read another discussion on this that sounds similar - but i am not sure how to apply the discussion to me.

    Hi lindsayMPollard,
Sounds like a Keychain password issue. Try the steps in this article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh1777.html It applies for both 10.4 and 10.5.
If that doesn't fix it, try this http://support.apple.com/kb/TS154.

  • Keychain password request on login

When I log in (admin account) I am asked for my keychain password. I'm not sure why?
When I enter my password (my login password) I am told that iti is invalid. I looked in the Help (a bit!) and it said the keychain password was the same as the Login password. If that's not the case, which password would it be as I haven't set any others up. Have I??
    iBook 1.42Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Your keychain password is usually the same as your login password, but it doesn't have to be. You can manually set the keychain password to be different, or in some situations it can become "out of sync".
Have you perhaps had to reset your password by booting from the install CD? Or have you logged in to another admin account and then used Sys.Prefs to change the password of the account that now has the problem?
In either of the above cases the login password will be changed but the keychain password will not. In those cases the keychain password will still be the original password it had before the change. So you might try using a previous password when prompted by the keychain to see if it works.
If you can discover the keychain password, then you can use Keychain Access to change it's password to match your login password. Then it will unlock automatically when you login and you'll stop getting prompted.
I suppose it's also possible that the keychain password may have become corrupt in some way. If this is the case you may be out of luck.
If you can't get the keychain unlocked after attempting any previous passwords, then you'll likely have to simply delete the keychain and let the system create a new one (which will be created with your login password).
In your home folder, go to ~/Library/Keychains and drag "login.keychain" out of the folder. Then logoff and log back in. This should create a new empty keychain for you and it should be "in sync" with your login password.

  • Why so many requests for keychain password in osx mountain lion

Since upgrading to Mountain Lion I have been deluged with requests for keychain login password (which is the same as my user password).  I was getting requests from assistantd (sic) as well as osx itself.  I think the assistantd requests have stopped since I turned off dictation and facetime.  I have verified the keychain and even ran repair keychain even though verify found no problems.  Ideas?

I have encountered the same issue.  I upgraded to 10.8 from 10.6.9 days ago, and I receive a keychain password request every 10-15 minutes (I know this after recording them in an effort to determine the issue). The requests vary, and are not perfectly timed.  I went to a local Apple Store yesterday to request some help, and a Genius repaired my keychain, zapped my PRAM, and booted from the 10.8 startup partition to run the following on my startup HD: Disk Utility repair, Disk Permissions repair, and resetpassword from the terminal.  These did not stop the keychain requests.
There's no corresponding message or trigger listed in the Console.  I have noticed the following message occur sometimes within ~3 minutes after a keychain request:
    8/5/12 3:33:42.154 PM assistantd[6226]: <Error>: AceConnection - NSStreamEventErrorOccurred <__NSCFInputStream: 0x7fe2ac027520>, error = Error Domain=NSPOSIXErrorDomain Code=54 "The operation couldn’t be completed. Connection reset by peer", domain = NSPOSIXErrorDomain, code = 54

And if I refuse to provide the keychain password, the following errors are logged in Console:

Any ideas from anyone?  It's actually difficult to work with all of these keychain requests.

  • Multiple requests for keychain password after booting up

Every time I boot up I get several requests for my keychain password.
I think the requests come from each of the applications that I have selected for auto-launch in the Accounts control panel.
Is this because these apps are launching before the system unlocks the keychain?
I never get keychain password requests at any other time. It seems like there is a sequence or timing issue.

I Just ordered a new laptop and it is asking me for a keychain password which I have never created.  can anyone help me?

I don't think you provided a login password when you setup the computer. Your Apple ID is not your password, but it can be used to change a password if you configured that option during setup. You need to assign a login password. This should also become your Keychain password.

  • How to stop frequent keychain login password requests

This problem is very irritating, I’m getting asked frequently by OS X to enter a keychain login password.  What I’ve read suggests this is related to a problem with Keychain Access.  One explanation says it can be caused by an administrator account password change where the default keychain password does not change, resulting in an inconsistency.  I have NOT changed my account password so I don’t think this is the cause of my problem.
I’ve also tried using Keychain Access First Aid, but it currently finds no problems.
In my case, this appears to have started after an upgrade from OS X Mavericks to Yosemite.  When I did the upgrade, the first problem I encountered was Mail stopped working – I was unable to send or receive mail.  I could, however, go to my mail provider at their web site and view mail there just fine.  That problem was resolved by using Keychain Access First Aid - I can now use Apple Mail on my "Air" just fine, but I’m still being inundated with frequent requests to enter a keychain login password.  I get these requests from Mail, AddressBookSourceSync, Messages Agent, Safari, Local Items, CalendarAgent, and com.apple.MailServiceAgent.xpc.
Once I enter my login password to 3-5 of these requests, I’m able to continue working on my Macbook Air, however once I close and reopen the lid of my Air, the requests start anew.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

  • Keychain Login: Password Requests, Login=Pinwheel

I recently had to reset my apple ID and now upon restart, Claendar Agent, Messages Agent, com.apple.icloudhelper.xpc, mail and accountsd all request the keychain password.  Unfortunately, what I type does not seem correct.  When I open Keychain Access and attempt to login, I get a pinwheel...
Does anyone know what has changed that would cause these password requests and more importantly how to make them stop?

Please take these steps to resynchronize the iCloud keychain. Your keychain on iCloud and your other Apple devices won't be affected. Take Step 2 only if Step 1 doesn't solve the problem.
    Step 1
    Back up all data.
Open the iCloud preference pane and uncheck the Keychain box. You'll be prompted to delete the local iCloud keychain. Confirm—the data will remain on the servers. Then re-check the box. Follow one of the procedures described in this support article to set up iCloud Keychain on an additional device. Test.
    Step 2
If you still have problems, uncheck the Keychain box again and continue.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it, then copy the text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C:
    ~/Library/Keychains
    In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
A folder named "Keychains" should open. Inside it is a subfolder with a long name similar to (but not the same as) this:
               421DE5CA-D745-3AC1-91B0-CE5FC0ABA128
The above is only an example; yours will have a different name of the same general form. Drag the subfolder (not the Keychains folder) to the Trash and empty.
Restart the computer and re-enable iCloud Keychain.

I Keep getting a "Keychain password changed" alert after removing a user account password my mother applied to the account and then forgot. How do I keep this message from continuing to appear?
I am not really sure how the keychain system works as I have never used it on my own Mac.

keychain is where you store the passwords you use on various websites, in mail and other apps. I suspect you use it too. but it's normally quite unobtrusive.
by default the password to unlock the keychain is the same as the account password. but this does not have to be and you can change it. when you reset the account password the keychain password was not reset. unless you can recall the old account password the old keychain is of no use to you. go to the folder homedirectory/library/keychains and delete the file login.keychain (or move it somewhere else). then log out/in. a new empty keychain will be created with the password the same as the new account password and you can start saving passwords in that.
