Remove Mac OSX installation from external disk

Hello,
I installed an extra max osx installation on an external disk. So i can starup from my HD or my ext disk depending on my start up disk choice. Everything works fine. Unfortunately i installed it in a partition with a lot off backup files in it, instead of creating a new partition dedicated only to the OS. I was wondering if there is a clean way of removing this installation without completely formatting the ext.disk again, so that i don't loose my data.

I hope you don't mind my jumping in. AFAIK, dumping the OS X files isn't a simple process because many of it's files and folders are hidden. It appears that the ext HD has more than one partition. If so, move your data to the other, then you can erase the partition, removing all of OS X's stuff. However, doing that looses your bootable backup. Details WRT to the HD, its size, number of partitions, how much used and free space, etc. should help to determine a strategy that saves the data and also provides for a bootable backup.

When I buy a Mac Mini Server 2011, I replace the Mac OS X Lion bootable disk with a SSD and install Win7 64, the other internal disk is also used by windows.
Now I need write some code in Mac OS using XCode, I assembling the Mac OS X Lion bootable disk with a USB disk shell and plug in Mac Mini's USB port, when I power on the machine and press the ALT key, the firmware show the Max OS disk, but I stoped.
I want to know if I boot into Mac OS, will it damage the Win7 disk? Can I apply OS patch or upgrade firmware?

Why is osx continuously caching external disk?

While I am -using an/any application that does- reading from an external disk, free memory continuously decreases and inactive memory increases with the same amount, which is aproximately the amount of data read. At some time, os starts paging and the system renders useless, forcing me to reboot.
Closing the application or using another usb slot has no effect, I have to eject the USB or use purge -which makes other applications sluggish-. Format of the -external drive's- partition (GUID, MBR),(HFS+, FAT32, NTFS) does not matter. All of the drives are excluded from Spotlight (are not indexed). I have
OSXFuse but that is only for Truecrypt, info about partitions show native drivers.
Why is osx continuously caching external disk, can a configuration/app/plugin cause this, is there a way to avoid this? Is there a selective purge command for external disk cache? Does anybody have this problem with external drives, and also with Mavericks?

Try a restart.
Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.
Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.

The installer may actually not be hunging, in my installation on Win XP, I have seen it "pause" at this point for 5 min or more before continuing with the installation to a successful completion, I did not try to do anything to assist it. Try giving it more time and see what happens.

Move iTunes library from external disk to internal disk

Hello,
I am currently using a Mac Mini with an external disk to store my iTunes library as well as all the media files, apps, etc. The library is managed (consolidated) by iTunes and is also organized by iTunes.
I am about to buy the new Macbook Pro and with a 1 TB drive, I wanted to move the iTunes stuff (library, media, playlists, play counts, ratings, everything) to the internal drive of the new MBP.
My questions are:
Can I do this migration (from external disk to internal disk of new Mac) as part of the Migration Assistant?
In case I can't do the above, what is the best way to do this after the new Mac has been set up?
How do I ensure that play counts, playlists, ratings, album art are preserved as I have spent considerable time setting those up?
I have 3-4 IOS devices syncing to this library. How do I ensure that when I sync them to the new computer/library, they will continue to work?

3. Make sure complete intune folder is copied over. The Itunes Library.itl file contains all meta data.
4. Maybe someone else can make a definitive comment on this. I used migration assistant and was able to sync my ipad and ipod classic without doing anything special. I presume that it worked because both were syncing to the same library albeit on a different computer.

I try start disk utility it only says: "You can't use this version of the application Disk Utility with this version of Mac OSX. You have Disk Utility 12.1"

To do a Reinstall of the OS boot to the Recovery HD, Command+r key at startup, then select Reinstall Mac OS X. the files will be downloaded from the internet and then the instal will begin.
With Mt Lion it is also available from the Mac App store in your Purchases area. You may be able to download it and then nmanually starting the install while booted to Mt Lion.
But I'd normally use the Recovery HD as that takes the installed OS out of the picture.

As far as i know we canot delete data from data files.But i think u can shrink the file.
But not suggestable.You can delete the juck or old data in the usr/trans/log/files.
Also delete the files in usr/sap/trans/eps/in.

For example, if using the Dual-channel 4Gb Fibre Channel PCI Express card? Is it 255, 512 or higher? I know it uses the ATTO driver, but I can't find any documentaiton about the upper limits of how many luns this HBA can address from a single target array on a SAN. Thanks.

Mass downloading after installation from a disk

I recently bought Premiere Elements 12 on a disk. Installation went smoothly and the program seems to run just fine. However, whenever I am running the program, a program that I have called BitMeter (a program that tracks Internet usage) show mass downloading. I tried restarting the program and even rebooting the computer but still, every time i run the program, it starts to download. It doesn't seem to be downloading anything, Premiere Elements doesn't say that it's downloading anything and the folder that it is installed into hasn't grown in size. I left it downloading for a while and after 2GB it was still going. Since I installed off of a disk i can't see any reason why it would need to download anything that large. Is there any reason why Premiere Elements 12 would be downloading anything after installation from a disk?

I do not know if you got to Content in the program. Much of it has to be downloaded before use. But, it would appear that it is on demand and not downloaded until you demand it. The Online Folder that contains the downloadable content runs several GBs.

I am not sure what you might be picking up with your BitMeter program.
It would be interesting to hear Adobe's comment on this. We are not Adobe. Just Premiere Elements users trying to help other Premiere Elements users with their Premiere Elements workflows.
What you might try, wild guessing, open the Elements Organizer 12, go to Edit Menu/Preferences/Media Analysis and shut off all the AutoAnalyzer options and everything else under Media Analysis. Then observe what happens, if anything, to your program activity. Have you started using the Adobe Revel feature?

Moving iTunes library from PC to Mac using iPod as external disk drive

O.K. I read the tutorial on this website on this topic and found it helpful though I haven't tried it yet. My question is - the tutorial examples assumed I would be using 2 macs. But, I am moving the iTunes library from a PC to a Mac (using the iPod as an external disk drive). Is that possible?

So, is it possible to move my old iTunes library (on the PC) onto my new PB and keep the all of the songs from the PC's library and the Mac's (basically consolidate both libraries into one)? I have an old notebook with broken cd-rom and without support to boot from USB disks (only "USB-FDD"). I want to install on this notebook Arch Linux! I bought an external DVD writer and I would like to only boot Arch linux, but install from external drive. How can I do it?

Yes. My laptop does not support booting from usb-cd and usb-hdd
But I installed Arch by grub4dos to boot from iso, connect external dvd and start installation. System successfully detected the dvd drive so I could install a new system!

I have an TV and when I try to watch a show it always says that "file format is not recognized." I am pretty sure it is because my computer gets disconnected from the external disk that all the media is on. This disk is attached to my time capsule. I wish I could make it so it would automatically reconnect with the disk after being disconnected, but I can't figure out how to make the external disk non password protected without making my network password protected also. Does that make sense? How do I make a disk so it is not password protected if it is on my password protected network? If my computer is on the network then I should be able to access discs without having to put in an additional password, no?
