Remove menubar in Safari Beta 3

Is there anyway to hide the Menubar in Safari... like in IE 7, by pressing the "alt-button" or with a compact-menu extension as Firefox?
Mange, Sweden

None that I know of, but I also would like to see this feature implemented.

  • Safari beta "game over"

I have 10.4.11 os x and tried to make the safari beta 3 fonts bigger with safari enhancer. After that I could not anymore open Safari.I can not uninstall,I can not install older versions.
I installed 10.4.11 combo updater - no result.I made Disk Utility repair - no result. Please help me what to do and what did I wrong.
    Thanks
    Robert

If you are updating Safari (or just have):
Input Managers from third parties can do as much harm as good. They use a security loophole to reach right into your applications' code and change that code as the application starts up. If you have installed 10.4.11 and Safari is crashing, the very first thing to do is clear out your InputManagers folders (both in your own Library and in the top-level /Library), log out and log back in, and try again.
So, disable all third party add-ons before updating Safari, as they may not have been updated yet for the new version. Add them back one by one. If something goes awry, remove it again and check on the software manufacturer's website for news of an update to match your version of Safari. Remember: Tiger up to 10.4.10 used Safari 2.0.4 or, if you downloaded it, Safari 3.0.3 beta. Safari 10.4.11 uses Safari 3.0.4 which is not a beta. If Safari 3.0.4 on 10.4.11 is not the fastest browser you have ever used, then something is wrong!
Moreover, trying to revert to Safari 2 when running 10.4.11 can have repercussions, as Safari 3.0.4 uses a completely different webcore on which other applications like iTunes, Mail etc also rely.
Most errors reported here after an update are due to an unrepaired or undetected inherent fault in the system, and/or a third party ad-on. Two such add-on that have been frequently mentioned here for causing such problems are Piclens and Pithhelmet. If you have them, trash them.

The only way to reinstall Safari on a Mac running v10.7 Lion is to restore OS X using OS X Recovery
Instead of restoring OS X in order to reinstall Safari, try troubleshooting extensions.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.
If it's not an extensions issue, try troubleshooting third party plug-ins.
Back to Safari > Preferences. This time select the Security tab. Deselect:  Allow plug-ins. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that made a difference, instructions for troubleshooting plugins here.
If it's not an extension or plug-in issue, delete the cache.
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

  • I removed my /Applications/Safari.app/Contents/Resources/.VideoCaptureFactory.* files and now Safari will not open. How do I fix this?

    Hi,
In a stupid attempt to "fix" my computer, I removed my /Applications/Safari.app/Contents/Resources/.VideoCaptureFactory.* files (one was a .png and the other was a .xls).
    I followed these steps:
    Manual Removal Instructions
    1. Run the following command in Terminal:
    defaults read /Applications/Safari.app/Contents/Info LSEnvironment
    2. Take note of the value, DYLD_INSERT_LIBRARIES
    3. Proceed to step 8 if you got the following error message:
"The domain/default pair of (/Applications/Safari.app/Contents/Info, LSEnvironment) does not exist"
    4. Otherwise, run the following command in Terminal:
    grep -a -o '__ldpath__[ -~]*' %path_obtained_in_step2%
    5. Take note of the value after "__ldpath__"
    6. Run the following commands in Terminal (first make sure there is only one entry, from step 2):
    sudo defaults delete /Applications/Safari.app/Contents/Info LSEnvironment
    sudo chmod 644 /Applications/Safari.app/Contents/Info.plist
    7. Delete the files obtained in steps 2 and 5
    8. Run the following command in Terminal:
    defaults read ~/.MacOSX/environment DYLD_INSERT_LIBRARIES
    9. Take note of the result. Your system is already clean of this variant if you got an error message similar to the following:
"The domain/default pair of (/Users/joe/.MacOSX/environment, DYLD_INSERT_LIBRARIES) does not exist"
Is there a way to update my db to not look for this or did I remove something crucial to the functioning of Safari? I feel like an idiot.
    Thanks for any help.
    Sincerely,
    Sterling MacNay

You installed a variant of what’s commonly called the “Flashback” or “Fakeflash” trojan, although the names are obsolete.
If you’re certain you know when that happened, and you back up with Time Machine or something similar, you can save yourself a lot of time by restoring your whole system from the most recent snapshot taken before it was infected. Then take Steps 7, 8, and 10 below.
How can you tell when the infection took place? All you can be sure of is that you were infected some time before the problems started. You may have visited a blog that prompted you to install some kind of software, or a “certificate.” You entered your administrator password when prompted. If you remember doing that recently, mention it in a reply, but don’t post a link.
If you don’t know when you were infected, there's no easy, reliable way to remove the malware, because it's constantly changing. There are differences of opinion on this site as to the best of course of action, so you should do your own research before deciding how to proceed.
I suggest you take the following steps:
    1. Back up all data to at least two different devices, if you haven't already done so.
    2. Boot from your recovery partition (if running Mac OS X 10.7 or later) or your installation disc (if running an earlier version of the Mac OS), launch Disk Utility, and erase the startup volume. This action will destroy all data on the volume, so you must be sure of your backups.
    3. Install the Mac OS.
    4. Reboot and go through the initial setup process to create an account with the same name as your old one. Don’t import anything from your backups at this stage.
    5. If running Mac OS X 10.6.x or earlier, run Software Update. You may have to run it more than once to fully update your system.
    6. Restore the contents of the top-level subfolders of your home folder except “Library” from the most recent backup. The Library folder may contain components of the malware. It’s best not to restore anything from there. If you must do so, restore only files, not whole folders with all their contents, and only if (a) they’re visible in the Finder, and (b) you know what they are, and (c) they haven’t been altered. Don’t restore anything in the home subfolder Library/LaunchAgents, if it exists, or any hidden files or folders, no matter where they are.
    7. If you’re running Mac OS X 10.5.8 or earlier, launch Safari and select Safari ▹ Preferences… ▹ Security from the menu bar. Uncheck the box labeled Enable Java. Because of known bugs, Java in those OS versions is unsafe to use on the Internet. (Note: I’m not referring to JavaScript, which is unrelated to Java, despite the similar names.) If you’re running Mac OS 10.6.8 or later, you should still disable the Java web plugin unless you really need it. Few websites have legitimate Java content nowadays. If you encounter one that does, enable Java temporarily.
    8. Change every Internet password you have, starting with banking passwords. Check all financial accounts for unauthorized transactions. Take this step only after you’ve secured your system in the preceding steps, not before.
    9. Reinstall your third-party software from fresh downloads or original media, not from backups which may be contaminated.
    10. If you use any third-party web browsers, disable Java in their preferences. As with step 7, this step is mandatory if you’re running any version of Mac OS X older than 10.6. Otherwise it’s optional, but recommended.

  • Can't install the new Safari beta

I've got a problem installing Safari beta 3.
I am always told "You cannot install Safari Beta 3 on this volume. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update."
Any ideas what is going on? I have plenty of space. That isn't the problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thank you!

    Hi
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Safari must reside in the top level of the Applications folder for the installer to work. If you put Safari in a sub-folder, or moved to a different location, then return it to the correct location, then try the Installer.
If at any point you choose to revert to Safari 2.0.4, you must use the Uninstaller that is found in the Installation package. Any other method will create havoc in the operating system.
With either the Install or Uninstaller, do not use the computer while it is running. You'll be instructed to restart the computer once it completes.

  • I cannot remove Avast from Safari.  It is blocking a website that I need for remote access to my office.  I have dragged Avast to the trash and have restarted my computer.  It is no longer installed as an app on my Mac.  Does anyone know what to do?

How do I remove Avast from Safari?

"Avast" is perhaps the worst of the whole wretched lot of commercial "security" products for the Mac. Not only does it fail to protect you from any real danger, it throws false warnings, destabilizes and slows down the computer, and sometimes or always corrupts the network settings and the permissions of files in your home folder. Removing it may not repair all the damage.
Back up all data, then remove "Avast" according to the developer's instructions. Restart.
If you tried to remove Avast by dragging an application to the Trash, you'll have to reinstall it and then follow the instructions linked above.

I have tried to remove Bing from Safari by doing the following:
    1) Checked that default search enging is google
    2) Turned off extensions (and deleted install.mac extension)

  • Troubles with Safari after downloading Safari Beta for Mac

I recently installed the new Safari Beta and have been having problems ever since. My browser constatly crashes and closes. It is a real pain in the arse. Is there any way to go back to the previous non-Beta version of Safari so i can stop this problem?
Thanks and have a great weekend!

  • Activation issues related to Safari Beta 3 uninstall

I am wondering if others have had this experience: It seems that if Safari Beta 3 is installed and then uninstalled, it may still leave behind software that prevents login of Safari 2 and iTunes (Version 7.3) into secure web sites. This includes the initial activation of the iPhone. One connects the iPhone to the computer (my PowerBook G4 Aluminum) and iTunes keeps looking for the Apple Store and ultimately does not connect. A similar issue occurs with Safari 2 (if 3 Beta was uninstalled before). In Safari 2, dot Mac, banking, etc; any site that requires a secure connection will continue to try to connect and ultimately time out. I have had to switch to FireFox to log into this forum! Safari 2 could not do it. I suspect many people are having problems with iPhone activation and are mistakenly thinking that the servers are overloaded (when the are not). I switched to an older PowerBook and my iPhone activated in 3 minutes. This older computer had never seen Safari 3. I beleive Safari 3 is not completely uninstalled and may cause secure website connection failure in iTunes and Safari 2.

I am the author of both posts. At least on my computer, the secure proxy was the problem and not Safari 2 or 3. Actually, Safari 2 works fine and now I am testing Safari 3 and it works fine with secure web pages. I think the initial problem with activation of my iPhone was due to the Secure Proxy being checked (I'm not sure why it was) and iTunes was looking for a secure proxy and would not connect to the iTunes Store to activate the iPhone.

  • How do I uninstall the Safari Beta version?

I'm using Firefox to post this since the beta version of Safari went belly up a couple of days ago. It's not loading many of my usual daily websites that I need access to.
When I tried to log in HERE I got this:
    http://solisstyle.com/ims/pic.php?u=4562lQs3D&i=74179
I searched the Apple website for Safari Beta 3 (& all versions of that phrase) and came up with nada so I was hoping that someone here would have some info.
I want to get rid of the beta version and go back to the previous stable version.
    Thanks in advance!
PS - What I'm looking for is the Safari beta file to download. I made the mistake of deleting the beta package that contained the uninstaller since it WAS working so well.
    Live & learn.

The uninstaller with beta 3.0 will not uninstall the program because I don't have a restorable version of Safari. ????? is this a weird catch 22? Of course I don't have it, it un-installed 2.1 when it installed the beta. Now Adobe won't install because of safari and safari won't uninstall because of safari and I cannot find a copy of safari 2 (only updates that need safari2) I'm going in and killing anything to do with safari.. this doesn't make me happy. I'm officially waiting on OSX 10.5 for a while.

    Hello Wontsey & Welcome
On 6-4-06 I installed Norton Internet Security 3.0.1 for Mac. I thought maybe my problem was related to the firewall part so I unistalled it and turned the Apple firewall that came with the computer back on.
This did not help. In fact, when I try to open “Help” from the desktop menu the program opens and then immediately closes so I can’t access it.
I hate to have to tell you this Norton is the problem, looking into uninstalling it, the uninstallers that came with it are not effective so no matter you do not have the CD/DVD go to their site to get the Uninstaller
UseCocktail or OnyXto find the invisable files. Just follow Macjacks directive.
This is covered in this Topic thread, abandoning Norton Internet Security see the files Macjack speaks of in the topic thread. If you have questions post in the same forum a new topic this thread is archive, click on the link and then click"back to topic list". This is why i first came to Apple discussions, to get help with the mess Norton can make on Panther and found help as you will. It is not a Safari issue per say, rather a Norton problem.
    Best of luck.

  • Safari Beta for Mac

Are there improvements in Safari Beta that would make it a good reason to update Safari 2.04 on my Macbook Pro w/OS X? I will not be using windows. Thanks

    Hi
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
I have enjoyed using Safari 3, especially In-line Find, expanded text boxes, better spotlight function in the Bookmarks Manager, improved tab function and faster rendering speed. Some "bugs" still exist (nature of a Beta release) such as retaining Auto-fill information for forms, in some instances slow Bookmark folder or menu rendering, and very minor instability on certain web sites. More information can be found here and here.
If you use any 3rd party Safari add-ons, such as SAFT, PicLens, or SafariStand, you'll need to upgrade the plug-ins before running Safari. Also, 3rd party PithHelmet and AcidSearch are not compatible with Safari 3.
In the PDF realm, if you use Adobe Acrobat or Reader as your PDF source, you'll need to install their most recent versions for Safari 3 compatibility.
When installing Safari 3, do not use the computer for other tasks. If you need to revert to Safari 2, the only way to do so is via the Uninstaller included in the Installation package.

  • Safari Beta crashing while JavaScript enabled

My OS is Windows 2000 Pro. Whereas Apple don't mention Win2k in the system requirements, I know there's plenty of Safari beta setups which are ok with this OS.
But on my Windows 2000 sp4 PC, everytime I visit a page embedding some Javascript code, Safari 3.04 is crashing immediately, providing no Dr Watson debug record...
I tried some developer versions too, 3.1 (525.6) and the fresh 525.9, with the same result. If I disable Javascript in preferences, Safari won't crash anymore, but obviously Javascript code will not run.
Any ideas there? Is it a windows 2000 specific issue?

I can confirm this for my W2K SP4 home machine, exactly the same symptoms (including problems capturing a Dr. Watson dump...).
Disabling JavaScript fixes it. Also, the problem did not occur for me up until Safari 3.0.3, and only got introduced with 3.0.4, and then continued in 3.1.
As noticed in some other posts, the situation with regards to W2k support for Safari seems to be a bit complicated, as it is offered by ASU as an update on my machine, and the installer does not produce any notice about incompatibility.
Also (my gut feeling as a software developer :-)) the differences between 2000 and XP at the level that is "interesting" to a portable runtime like JavaScript should be so minor that this feels rather like a general bug that happens to be exposed on W2k, as opposed to a genuine incompatibility.
    ciao marcus
