Remove missing file warning

I have some photos I want to edit - sequence, reject, sort etc - but not develop. The full catalog is on my desktop at the studio. I'm travelling right now with my laptop and have exported a catalog with those images to work on. Of course, when I open them in loupe view, the warning comes up 'The file named 'x' is offline or missing'. I find this very distracting though. Other than working in dimmed mode by hitting L twice, is there a way to remove the warning dialog?

Jonathan,
Unfortunately, this banner was introduced with LR3, in LR2 it was only present in Develop. The only workaround I know of is to use Survey View in Library.

  • Missing file - warning msg ?

When I open my ibooks author file I get a missing file warning.
The warning window show the missing file name but no other information.
How can I find the page where this file is missing and fix the issue?
    thanks in advance
    Rohit

I found a way to figure this out by accident ... The missing picture file shows up as a "broken giff" similer to web pages.  You just have to go thru the entire file and find the broken giff.  It would be better if the error msg shows a page number.

  • Missing sidecar - remove missing file status

I have raw files that had metadata written to XMP sidecar files, the XMP are now missing, and I don't want to have LR create new sidecar files. The files show up as missing in the catalog. How can I get rid of the missing status and the little "metadata status warning" icons without having to write new sidecar files? If I can't that's pretty insidious and I would call it a bug.
    Thanks

Writing to xmp and then deleting the xmp is how I got to this stage. They show up in the Missing Files folder in the library tab of the library module. If I hover over the little question mark icon it says sidecar file is missing. If I click on the question mark it writes the metadata to xmp, even if "auto write changes to xmp" is unchecked in the catalog settings>metadata preferences.
But there's no way to delist them from missing files without creating a new xmp, as far as I can tell. You're basically stuck with "missing files" warning forever unless you create new xmps.
It's pretty annoying. I'd call it a bug. Essentially it's probably just a scenario that wasn't considered or accounted for in development. Creating missing file folder on demand - I like that.
Thanks for your input, let me know if you come up with anything

  • HT203477 Missing file warning with an import of Red footage.

I updatd a project and got seveal missing file warnings.  Two clips seem to be very much stuck in this mode.  I have trashed the files out of the project and off the drive and tried several time to reload them to no avial...  Does anyone have any idea how to get past this.   Both files show up on the drive with the video in tack when I click on the files so I am a bit stumped as to what to do next.
    Chelsea

So arter chewing my arms off forever I got lucky and found the sollution.  After trashing the clips out of FCPX and off the drive and going into the finder and trashing the trash.  You have to go into the tranzcoded media on the drive and trash those files.  I did this with FCPX open and the files opened up with the video.  I then had to redo the proxy and HQ media.  One would think that when you trash out a file in FCPX that it would remove the corrosponding files to avoid this issue.  Argggg  I hope this helps someone else in the future....

  • Remove missing files?

    Tried this:
    http://paulmayne.org/blog/2007/11/how-to-remove-broken-or-dead-tracks-from-itune s/
However, I get stuck at creating the smart playlist 'Missing Files'. You cannot add a 'static playlist' (non-smart playlist) to the selection for some reason...
    Is there any other way?
BTW, thank you Apple for leaving out another useful feature of one of your products...

Here's my take on the playlists...
    *Lost & Found*
Create a playlist called Found, select everything in Music and drag it into the Found playlist (it may take some time to count the tracks that are to be dropped). Create a smart playlist called Lost matching All the rules *Playlist is Music* and *Playlist is not Found*. Your lost tracks will be in this playlist. You should be able to select all the tracks in this playlist with CTRL-A and then remove them from iTunes with CTRL-SHIFT-DELETE.
However I prefer to use iTunes Folder Watch with its option to *Check for dead tracks on startup* selected.

  • Red Missing File Warning

    Hello to all-
Getting the missing file icon when the original files are in place. Verified it by "reveal in finder" and reveal in browser". Nothing has changed on the drive where the project and events folder are located.
I had some FxFactory effects on the clips, and uninstalled all the FxFactory plugins due to too many crashes. But the underlying media is still on my drive.
    Any ideas are greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

    Hello Tom-
Thank you for your response. Now it's even a more bizare situation. The orange bar is above the footage, the render circle reads 100%, and when I select Render All from the Modify menu, nothing happens!
You are correct in that it is chromakeyed footage.
The mystery continues. I'm going to restart everything and see if the render begins.

  • Missing files using the same library on two different macs and other minor problems

    Hi everybody,
I'm working on a long documentary and I'm new to FCPX (coming from Avid NC and Edius)...I have and external HD where I stored all the media I'm working with (about 1/2T - 1000 clips)...The library (about 100gb) is stored on the internal drive of my iMac and into the iCloud.
Yesterday, I received my new MacBook and today I tried to work on it. I followed this steps: I downloaded from iCloud the same library I was working with, I put it on the same folder (movies) it was stored on my iMac and I connected my external HD with all the media...Results? All the clips where gone and the red missing file warning was all over the place.
FIRST QUESTION: How can I work on both computer overcoming this missing files problem? I know I should have put the library on the same external drive but It was a move aiming to
    SUB QUESTION 1:
I went back to my iMac and everything worked fine except for a warning about one of my events (the exclamation point) as you can see from this pic:
I tried to relink the file...but no files to be linked popped up in the relink file window....HOW CAN I KNOW what's wrong in that event in order to fix it?
    SUB QUESTION 2:
I checked the Library info and - as you can see in the pic below - there are 43mb of media in my internal HD...is this maybe the problem preventing me from working on different macs? I tried to consolidate everything to the external HD but still the 43mb thing persist in being on the internal HD. How can I find where exactly it is located? How can I move it to the external HD given that the consolidate option isn't working?
Thank you in advance for your help
    Nico

    1) Don't know why this is happening. It may have something to do with
I downloaded from iCloud the same library I was working with
I'm not clear what procedure you're using here. Using a cloud for storage might change some file tags. Generally users I think keep the library on the same drive as the media, keeping the library backups on the system. There is no real benefit in keeping the media in a separate location. Often users will keep the library in the same folder as the media. It makes backing up using tools like Carbon Copy Cloner very efficient.
1a) This can be difficult to find as there sometimes is no obvious indicator. It might be a missing element in a compound clip, a missing or altered layer in a graphics file, a missing font, a missing effect. These will show up inside the item involved, but may not be apparent in the browser. A missing transition for instance will not be seen until you skim over the project or try to export it.
    2) The 43 MB is a small amount of optimized media. This never prevents relinking. The library is always looking for original media, or proxy media if you're in proxy playback. It never looks for optimized media. If it has it, it uses it, if it doesn't, it uses the original media. If you are using original/optimized playback, you must have the original files. The optimized files are not enough.

  • Event Says Missing File, Can't Remove It.

Final Cut Pro X is telling me that a file in my event needs to be relinked.  Basically it's a .psd file that i have since removed from the event.  honestly i was working so fast I dont know if i made a careless mistake but for some reason FCPX seems to think I still need to relink that file.  But the file isn't even in the event.  I tried to locate it and just delete it so FCPX would realize I don't have that file anymore.  I even tried relinking another .PSD file with the same name to just overwrite whatever it was and then just delete it but it keeps saying that the PSD File i'm trying to replace it with doesn't have the same framerate or filesize or something so it isn't compatible.  which doesn't make sense because I literally made a cloned copy of the PSD file that I had deleted.
I even browsed through the actual  event folders on the drive just to see if I could find where FCPX was getting confused but couldn't find the psd file it thinks it's missing.
can anyone help me with this absurd prediciment?

I have had problems with FCPX ever since I bought it and have discussed some of the issues in these forums.  I now have 10.0.5 and it seems to be better but have found in editting my latest project that each time I quit FCP, all my work is lost: I either get an empty grey canvas like I would if using it for the first time, or I get an accurate Events list but no timeline or I get the red "Missing File" alert in the timeline with no Event listing.  The only way I found around this was to leave the computer permanently on and FCP loaded for the duration of my editing.  All the files are in the Finder, but if I try to import them, although they are FCP files, the program will not open them (it will reimport event lists but not projects).  Only once in many quit and reopen episodes did it correctly load everthing I had worked on, but I have found today (now the project is complet but not deleted) that it is still in its bad habits.

  • Removing missing media files

I recently had some trouble with locating the files on my computer after I updated my iTunes. I had to import the whole library again, but now I have doubles of every song and exclamation points next to all the old ones. Does anyone know how to erase all the old one, without having to click each individual one. I was looking for a "remove missing media" button or something. Thanks.

I'm not aware of any functionality within the stock iTunes program to do that. One solution that I use is the iTunes Library Updater third-party program. This utility can not only remove tracks from your library with no corresponding media, but can also add in files that haven't been added to your library. I use this with a shared music network share and two separate iTunes libraries. It works well, though I wish Apple had this functionality natively.

  • Search for missing file - can't remove it

I keep getting "Searcing for missing file"  I cancel it and shut the system down and it comes back every time.  When I go into the pictures there is a little red broken box at the bottom of them.  How do I stop this?

When you 'add' your pictures to Starter Edition, the program notes where the file is, and creates a reference thumbnail representation of the picture for you, so that you can work with a large collection of files in different places on your hard drive. If you move or delete any of your pictures, that will result in outdated references to your files in Starter Edition. That is what is meant by 'missing file'; the file has been moved, deleted, or renamed.
The way to make it stop is to delete the picture of your file (with the red icon) in Starter Edition, because it is no longer able to locate the original moved/deleted/renamed file.
The other way to fix it is to move the file back to wherever the program 'thinks' the original file is.

  • Files disappeared from library, "missing" files not really missing

I had a folder with 3 files in different formats for each image.  These were imported several days ago, grouped into stacks, captioned, tagged, etc. and synced to the files.  They continued to exist in the library some time afterward, but today when I opened lightroom all of the jpg versions of all of the images and all 3 formats of one image in particular had vanished from the library.  It did not claim that it could not find them on disk (and in fact the files *do* still exist on disk right where they should), they just didn't show up.  I was able to re-import all of the jpg images without trouble, but for the other two formats of the one missing image, importing one of them fails because it "already exists in the library," and the other one is willing to import but then doesn't show up in the folder or the recently imported files list.  When I try to synchronize the folder, it suggests that I import that file, but it never actually does.  Since importing the jpgs, it also suggests that I remove 53 "missing" files, the number of jpgs imported.  When I view the missing files in the library, it shows only 2 of the jpgs, one of which belongs with the files that will not import and neither of which is actually missing--they can both be synchronized just fine by clicking the little synchronize icon on the actual photo.
Does anyone know what's going on here and how I might be able to get the files that won't import back into the library?  And how to be sure that files won't just go away on their own again?
Edit: to be clear, missing versions of files were definitely not stacked with the other ones and the "don't import duplicates" box was not checked when re-importing the ones that won't re-import

I managed to get the photos that wouldn't import back in by deleting them directly out of the database and then reimporting them into lightroom. I'm a little concerned that they disappeared in the library view in the first place, though.  Does this sort of thing happen often, and under what circumstances?  I'm still in the free trial period and was very close to buying the program, but now I'm not so sure.  If I'm using an application to manage my photos, I want to know that it's actually managing all of the photos I put into it and not randomly forgetting about them.
I'm still having the not-really-missing files problem, though.  I think it may actually be because they got associated as "sidecar" files somehow and are now in there twice, once as the sidecar file and another time as a separate jpg image.  I'm not really sure why only one of them shows up in the missing images view, I think it might be because I edited that one so it's in a slightly different state from the others?  If there are any tips on how to resolve that state, I'm all ears, I'd like it to stop telling me I have 53 missing files when I don't.

  • Windows 7 Compatability with Labview 8.0 and missing files while interfacing the FPGA with LV

I am trying to use an FPGA (PCI-7830R) with Labview 8.0. The computer has Windows 7 OS. I installed LV 8.0 in the proper order with the FPGA Module and labview is able to see the FPGA when I open a .lvproj (the FPGA is in the tree) however there is a warning symbol next to the FPGA selection and when I try to open a .vi file that is used on the other stations in my lab (it works on all the other stations), labview is unable to find a whole bunch of files. There are some pictures.

    Hi, Hugo,
In similar cases it helped to remove the GarageBand "Preferences" file from the User Library.
    Open the folder
your home folder > Library > Preferences
and move the file "com.apple.garageband.plist" to the Desktop.
Then try again to launch GarageBand.
