Remove Mozilla Suite, Keep Firefox 2.x

Hello,
Sorry if this is a n00b question, but I want to remove the Mozilla browser and Thunderbird from JDS3 on Solaris 10 8-07 SPARC (fully patched) without ruining the Firefox 2.0.0.4 install (pdf, flash, defaults expected by JDS etc.). Any special instructions? The /var/sadm/pkg/.../depend files say flash and acroread plugins are dependent on SUNWmozilla. I have limited disk space (2 18 g drives) and can't just leave it hanging around eating 200mb of space. Does Firefox use its own plugins or share them with Mozilla? (Why doesn't Mozilla just go away? :)

How does does this relate to Java Programming?
Perhaps you can post a section of your Java code to illustrate the problem.
This may be a bug in Firefox, perhaps it is time to update to v3.0.3 or later [http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/]

  • Firefox and Mozilla Suite are forked!

Gnuzilla is the GNU version of the Mozilla suite, and IceWeasel is the GNU version of the Firefox browser. Its main advantage is an ethical one: it is entirely free software. While the source code from the Mozilla project is free software, the binaries that they release include additional non-free software. Also, they distribute non-free software as plug-ins. (IceWeasel does keep the triple licensing used by Firefox to facilitate the reuse of code.)

    http://savannah.gnu.org/projects/gnuzilla/
UPDATE: it seems that they forked only GPL code to be able to get rid of MPL. (because full compiled version can be distributed only as MPL, because contains non-GPL compatible parts).
And it is already supported by Debian.
EDIT: It all reminds me XFree86. Its developers changed license to less free just because they wanted more credits, and you all know how this ended. Where's now XFree86? Instead X11 changed license to free and then with the help of FreeDesktop it is now far ahead of XFree86. These projects just swapped their places.

Xorg was at the right place at the right time to collect all that negative energy and turn it in to some positive motivation towards making real improvements to xfree86. Forks are often caused as a response to "mismanagement" and I think that's why so many people got behind the new xorg fork.
With Mozilla, no one but RMS is stewing over the MPL license and the fact that the binary can contain non-free components. So what? It's still an open source project that delivers a piece of software that people want to use. Given that the main license contention is that It's Not GPL-only, then I still think that being OSI compliant will ensure broad support through Linux distributors.
Read this this blog entry by Matthew Garrett (a VERY active debian developer and leader).  In short, he describes why the fork was not only necessary, but why the requirements imposed by Mozilla on the Debian project resulted in the dropping of firefox from etch and the inclusion of IceWeasel.
The trademark issue is not something that can be fixed with a license.  GPL/MPL has nothing to do with the branding of firefox/mozilla - but the Mozilla project tried to use their trademark to impose "non-free" licensing conditions on the debian folks.  That's just wrong.

  • I updated Firefox and now it will not open at all. The hourglass shows that it's working but then nothing. I went to add/remove and removed mozilla and reinstalled it and still the same thing. It worked fine before I updated.

I updated Firefox and now it will not open at all. The hourglass shows that it's working but then nothing. I went to add/remove and removed mozilla and reinstalled it and still the same thing. It worked fine before I updated. Now I can't even remove the program at all. Why is this happening?

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

  • What internet security suites does Firefox work with completely?

My Kaspersky internet website blocker and advisor won't work with the new Firefox update. This is why I am not updating. What security internet suites does Firefox work completely with. This is a constant problem with Kaspersky which is one of the higher rated security suites available. I don't like paying for security that Firefox disables.

Toolbars and other applications bundled with anti-virus are usually not helpful in any way. I stay away from all toolbars simply because they are useless and offer no real protection other than annoying me.
If you <s>ever</s> have Kaspersky or any other anti-virus installed, you will be protected. Every antivirus protects your whole system, not just a certain program. You will be fine.
As for Firefox and Kasperky's toolbar not existing peacefully, that's a problem on Kaspersky's side. They need to keep up-to-date with Mozilla's roll out schedule. (Firefox 37 will be rolled out in 3 days). Contact Kaspersky for an update on their toolbar.

  • How do I keep Firefox from saving bank account data?

How do I keep Firefox from saving bank account data? I'm running Win7 64-bit. I can't seem to keep Firefox from saving bank account data.

Also, could you clarify what you mean by "saving bank account data"? Here are some places that Firefox may save data you have viewed:
''Firefox's cache:'' Generally speaking, Firefox will cache pages you have viewed so you can go Back to them unless the server instructs Firefox not to store them, or designs the page to reload and check to make sure you are still logged in.
''Session history:'' Firefox saves information about your session for purposes of redisplaying your open windows and tabs (and recently closed windows and tabs) in the event of a crash. If you want to restrict what Firefox saves, there might be some settings you can modify, but it depends on your concerns.
''Form autofill:'' If you have the form fill feature enabled, Firefox will remember data you enter into forms (usually excluding passwords). This can be turned off, or completely cleared, but there isn't a convenient way to remove just some of the data without an add-on. For example: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/form-history-control/

  • How to remove auto start of firefox plug in page

    1) how to remove auto start of firefox plug in page. we do not want this site to open when openning firefox.
    2) we proceeded with a few updates as requested, but firefox did not show the update once complete-still said need to update.

First of all your Flash plugin is out of date: Use Adobe's own page to test your version of the plug-in and to update it www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ -- evidently the same information is not getting to the Mozilla plug-ins test. That might fix your problem if your home page uses Flash such as a news site.

  • 10.0.01 ver. doesn't sign-in automatically i look up password manager, it seems it saves usernames and passwords, when i visit websites i am not automatically signed in and when i reopen mozilla it keeps on asking main password to sign-in all the time.

10.0.01 version doesn't sign-in automatically... i look up password manager, it seems to it saves usernames and passwords, when i try to visit that website i am not automatically signed in and when i reopen mozilla it keeps on asking main password to sign-in all the time... it happened after mozilla updated itself... please help about it.. (i dont have problems like this in Opera browser)
mozilla fills user name when i click but after that it asks for main password (whats the purpose of remembering passwords if it will ask for main password)
by the way main password for password manager is of course useful but it şs useful whenever i want to use it not all the time i open mozilla .
and not all the time i open a website or forum which i often use...
there were no problems before it updated itself...
    please tell me the solution

my problem is not related with using main password or not...
in former versions of firefox i was automatically signed in to websites without any click... it wasnt asking me to sign-in (because my usernames and passwords were remembered-and saved in password manager)
in this version they are remembered again but i have to write first 2-3 letters of my username and it remembers my username then it remembers password...
for example when i clicked twitter.com my account and my homepage as automatically opened, but in this version when i click twitter.com it opens the sign-in page and i write first 2 letters of my user name it remembers name and password and then i signin
(difference i was at where i want to sign in with one click--- but in new version 1click for webpage-1 click for clicking to username are-1-2 letter writing to find my user name-1 click to remember password-1 click to sign in) an addition: also if i am using main password i am entering main password and click to sign-in
This can be little problem to u, but it is really annoying problem, 9-10 clicks more for each webpage which i wanted mozilla to remember my usernames and passwords... it also asks main password if i am using...
if i want to visit 5-6 different websites it means 70-80 clicks more and 50-60 letters typing according to your main password .. (in opera and mozillas former versions it is just 5-6 clicks)
so main problem is the cookies were remembered in all the sessions but after it updated to v.10.0.1 expiry date of cookies of same websites that i visit are just for one session... it is not related with the websites and their servers that i visit because if so how can Opera remembers all the time...

  • I recently switched to mozilla and keep seeing 'updater.exe.' What is this? Is it harmful?

I recently switched to mozilla and keep seeing 'updater.exe.' What is this? Is it harmful?

'''updater.exe''' is the Firefox Software Updater, which is located in the Program Files\Mozilla Firefox folder. It's possible that your antivirus program is giving you a "false positive".
Firefox 27.0.1 is the latest version. Click on the orange Firefox button in the upper left corner of the Firefox window and then click on Help ->. About Firefox to start the manual update process (see [[Update Firefox to the latest version]] for details).
Do you see the same "updater.exe" message? What does it say, exactly?

  • I was unable to obtain a connection to the internet after downloading Firefox--Had to remove it. Want Firefox--Can someone solve this issue?

The college on-line program I'm taking usesMozilla Firefox. I downloaded the Windows version; then received a message that the internet connection could not be found. Shortly thereafter I signed off from the internet. When I attempted to access the internet found I no longer was able to and had a message that Firefox was my current search engine. I tried many changes- unsuccessfully- in control panel. Finally removed Mozilla Firefox and then was able to get on the internet again. I've used Firefox in the past and appreciated it. I would like to have the use again and so wouldn't the college I'm taking on-line courses with. Is there a solution? Thank you.

I am having problems with Premier keeps freezing I am hoping removing the older version will help.

removing the older version is not necessary for cs6 to function correctly.  you have some other problem.
but if you want to remove cs5.5 for use elsewhere or for other reasons, open one of the cs5.5 programs and click help>deactivate.
then uninstall using the adobe uninstaller.

  • Comparison: Mozilla vs. Firefox / Thunderbird

Would some of you mind sharing your experiences and opinions on the differences between these browsers and emailers?  I certainly don't want to start any flame wars, and I'm not interested in hearing that some other browser/emailer is better than either of these, but I would like to know why you prefer one over the other.
In my case, I've been using Firefox since it was first released (as Phoenix) several years back and it's been very good, but I started using the latest Mozilla a few days ago (due to a problem with Firefox) and noticed right away that it seems to render web pages faster than Firefox, at least on my machines.  Have any of you found this to be the case?
Also, I noticed that the combination of Firefox and Thunderbird packages together total about 23 megs in the Arch repositories, whereas the Mozilla package is only about 12 megs.  There is a notable size difference after installation, too.  I thought that Firefox and Thunderbird were supposed to be lightweight, yet they seem bigger than Mozilla.  Perhaps someone can help me understand what's going on here.
Thanks in advance for your help and constructive comments.

i never liked mozilla-suite, especially because i _don't_ want any mail-reader running/included. and i don't like those icons at the bottom. the reason why firefox is now bigger than mozilla-suite is that firefox now includes nss-nspr and gecko-dsk : http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php? … ight=gecko. those files were previously included by mozilla-suite.
i've just installed mozilla-suite and i don't really see any difference in speed. though i did notice a few differences such as: you can't load a page from bookmark-toolbar in a new tab using the middle mouse button, bookmark toolbar doesn't show icons (once you've used them you cannot make a step backwards). and at the first glance i couldn't find out how to install plugins such as Ad-Blocker, if there are any.
btw: the 'x' button (to close tabs) can easily be replaced using your favourite skin.
