Removing old profile from the laptop?

When I first bought my imac I was uncreative and did liv### as my mac name. I then changed it to rocketliv when I signed up for the mac internet features. Is there a way to get rid of the liv### from showing up in my preferences?! I keep changing it to rocketliv but it keeps coming back to haunt me.

Are you referring to the Computer Name, your user short name, your user long name? Try to be specific since there are a lot of different "names."

Remove old VPN profiles installed via Config Utility?

I've got an iPhone 4S running iOS 6. It has two VPN profiles that were created via Configuration Utility profiles. These two VPN profiles are no longer used, but I can't seem to find a way to remove them.
In Settings -> VPN, if you tap the blue arrow next to the profiles themselves, the only option available is the "Connec On Demand" On/Off switch. There is no "Delete VPN" button.
In Settings -> General -> Profiles, nothing is listed for me to remove.
How can I delete these two unused profiles?

Having same problems.
There is no such setting as "Profile" in General, but the old profile is invisible. The Cisco AnyConnect app says there is no profile either.
This "invisible" profile was installed on my old 3GS in order to block data transfer using 3G etc. Since the new iOS updates and then iPhone 5 update the option "Profile" in setting has dissapeared.
But it's still somewhere and it's still blocking my data connection. It's weird. I don't know how to get rid of it.

ICC profile description is invalid

I loaded PSE 8 on my Dell M1530 running Vista. Whenever I try to start PS8 I get "could not initialize Photoshop because the ICC profile description is invalid" and the program quits. I've tried removing and reinstalling PSE8 and it still errors. Any idea what I can do?

There are three steps in installing a color profile in Windows. First they have to be in your system32 (or syswow whatever\spool\drivers\color folder. Then as you have done you run the install. But then you have to register the profile for the device type (display\printer\etc.).
I think placing the color space profiles has already been covered in another reply.
You have already reset preferences so PSE has rebuilt its cache of scripts and resources.
Switch the default monitor profile in Win color management applet to another to another one just to see if that solves your problem. PSE doesn't offer a choice of display profile so I imagine it uses your set default.
Also there are two profile version types. Version 4 trips uup some applications especially for printing. Version 2 should be used for displays and works best for printers as well.

In each you'll see the complete version number. In one of those two you have to switch thefile type to .icm or .icc. The other shows both.

I used "my documents" for the profile folder, I removed the profile and firefox asked if i want to remove its file, and it took ALL my file except a few, all my photographs etc, are these now unrecoverable? as they are not in the recycle bin

Thanks for the obvious question. I mean it. The very same thought came to me this morning and, sure enough, I had booted into another drive--my old one that, of course, had the old desktop, etc.
It didn't dawn on me that this was the case since I hadn't set it as a boot drive but I guess in the course of all the restarts I did, it got switched.
I'm back to normal again.

no "remove" option, in the control panel for itunes, downloaded new itunes, can't install it. message said
"cannot remove old version, contact technical support group".

First, head into your Add/Remove programs and uninstall your QuickTime. If it goes, good. If it doesn't, we'll just attend to it when we attend to iTunes.
Next, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility:

Now launch Windows Installer CleanUp ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"), find any iTunes and/or QuickTime entries in the list of programs in CleanUp, select those entries, and click “remove”.
Next, we'll manually remove any leftover iTunes or QuickTime program files:
(1) Open Local Disk (C:) in Computer or whichever disk programs are installed on.
(2) Open the Program Files folder.
(3) Right-click the iTunes folder and select Delete and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion.
(4) Right-click the QuickTime folder and select Delete and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. (Note: This folder may have already been deleted if QuickTime was successfully removed using Add/Remove Programs earlier.)
(5) Delete the QuickTime and QuicktimeVR files located in the C:\Windows\system32\ folder. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue. (Note: These files may have already been deleted if QuickTime was successfully removed using Add/Remove Programs earlier.)
(6) Right-click on the Recycle Bin and on the shortcut menu, click Empty Recycle Bin.
(7) Restart your computer.
Now try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly now?

Can I manually copy over extensions from an old profile?

On one of my computers I recently created a new profile to do some troubleshooting and experimenting. It went well and I may as well keep the new profile, but a handful of my extensions are no longer available to download from the add-on center. They worked fine on my version of FF, just no longer supported I guess and withdrawn (unrelated to my troubleshooting issues).
Is it just a matter of copying over the .xpi file to the comparable place in the new profile? Just like I copied over the various other "important data".
Assuming yes, the other problem is how to identify what the add-on is when it's filename is {<guid-like-string>}.xpi.
I think the old profile's extension folder probably has way more extensions than the old profile was actually using. Do "removed" add-ons' .xpi files stay in that folder? or just "disabled" ones?

Will the old profile still load? If so, the support information page associates the familiar extension names with their GUIDs (either):
* "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
* (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
* type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter
Scroll down to the Extensions table.
As for copying, it usually is either an .xpi file or a folder.
For .xpi files, you can drag and drop them onto a Firefox tab (while running in the new profile) to install them.
On the other hand, I'm not sure Firefox will recognize the folders if you copy them over to the new profile, or how to induce it to do so. There probably are some threads on this either here or on the MozillaZine (unofficial) forums.

You may certainly remove all profile data by leaving those settings as "blank" or "not specified." I find the easiest way to do this is to open the profile settings from within the Skype "client" software.
Removing/deleting an account name from the Skype search directory closes the account. More details about this can be found here: 'Can I delete my Skype account?'

External Monitor on Macbook Pro freezes after deleting old profiles

Environment:
15 inch MacBook Pro, Mid 2010, 2.4 GHz, 8GB, NVIDIA GeForce graphics
Yosemite 10.10.1
External Monitor: Samsung SyncMaster 245T running in Extended Mode with the laptop
I have been using the above setup for several years with no issues. Yesterday I did a calibration of the external SyncMaster monitor with Datacolor Spyder3 as I have done many times in the past. The calibration was saved, but an error message flashed by before the file was saved. Checking with the ColorSync utility, the new saved colorspace appeared somewhat smaller than the last one.
I noticed that I had too many old profiles from previous calibrations still there, so I tried cleaning the directory up. I opened System Pref/Display/Color, clicked on an unwanted profile and delete the profile, and reset it to the profile that I wanted. Repeated this a few times and the SyncMaster appeared to be good.
Now I tried the same with the Macbook. Fine, deleted a few profiles but something now messed up the SyncMaster. It colors, including the dock, contorted to an ugly mess. Cursor changed to a spinning wheel, and I could not click or select anything either on the SyncMaster or the Mac. Rebooted, pulling the Syncmaster adapter out of the mac. Everything good, until I plug the Syncmaster back in, and I am back to the spinning wheel.
There must be some way to uninstall, re-install the Syncmaster?
How can I resolve this?

Aha, all is good.
I went to Library/ColorSync/Profiles/Displays
and to home/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/Displays
and deleted all SyncMaster.icc files. I did leave behind one SyncMaster file in the home/../Displays which had an old date and I new was ok.
Rebooted, plugged in SyncMaster, and a new icc file was automatically created in the /Library/../Displays folder.
My display works normally, now.

Hey, I saved my old profile folder from my previous Firefox 4 installation on my old computer. I installed FF4 on the new computer. I tried placing the old profile files on the new profile folder, but when I start Firefox, it doesn't show any of my passwords or bookmarks. Do you know how to solve it? Connect the two Macs together (network, firewire target mode, etc) and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old Mac to the pictures folder of the new Mac - launch iPhoto on the new mac and it will open the library and convert it as needed and you will be ready move forward.
Any highspeed wired connection will work from a cat 5 or 6 cable to and ethernet network to firewire

David. Thank you very much. The problem was not with the canvas but rather the Viewer. But the solution was the same. Somehow, the Viewer window was re-set to Alpha. I changed it back to RGB.... and the picture is back. These issues are often very simple.... but they can drive you bats if you don't know the answer. Very grateful. Tim

How can I remove 'old' or 'incomplete' backups from iCloud?
When I attempted, the iPhone 6+ message asked if I wanted to remove ALL of the backups... without giving me the option of selecting the specific one I wanted to remove.
I had performed 'backups' of my old iPhone, but, when I tried to RESTORE to the REPLACEMENT iPhone, at least one of the iCloud backups shows 'incomplete'. There was no 'error' on the original iPhone...when it 'failed' to complete the backup.
Now, I would like to 'clear up' the 'storage' on the iCloud, but am unable to select specific ones. I can either keep all instances or shut off iCloud Backup which would, according to the message, remove/delete ALL of the BACKUPS.
This shouldn't be this difficult.....

I too wondered how you remove apps from iCloud. Judging by the quantity of questions, comments, suggestions and replies (some rather rude) there is a clear need for Apple to make their literature a lot clearer. The page describing what iCloud backs up refers to "app data" as an item which is backed up. To the uniniated this might mean the app program but it seems not. The app is "bought" via iTunes or the App Store and details of your purchase (free or otherwise) is held there separately on the server.
It would be nice however to be able to remove the reference to junk I have downloaded and decided I don't want so that it doesn't appear on the purchased apps listing! Apple please note this.
It must be remembered that Apple products come pitifully supported by manuals "out of the box" on the assumption that it is so easy to use the product that no explanation is needed. They forget that most buyers of Apple products (me included) don't know (and don't want to know) how they work, so when something is not obvious they are required to plough through Lord knows how many web pages of "knowledge base" material until they find an answer.
All I can add is that it is worth spending time reading the multiitude of discussion threads before asking the question yet again...

im running low on diskspace and dont have much on my pc other than my itunes. i think the problem is all the iphone backups i have.. i have more than one iphone and have had all the generations. so i think tat my backups are using a lot of diskspace and only want to keep the most recent.so how do i remove old back ups from my itunes?

If photo stream isn't working, put them in a folder and sync them to you phone by selecting the folder on the Photos tab of your iTunes sync settings and syncing. Just be aware that if you want to delete them to your phone in the future you will need to sync them off your phone using iTunes as they can't be deleted directly on the phone.
