How to Connect Oracle Database without using TNS entry
Hi,
i need to connect Oracle Database server from my pc without using the TNS entry. How to do that?
Regards,
007You have marked the question as answered, so it means you can answer my questions:
1.How do i check that i can make easy connect to the server or not, I mean is it configured on Server ?
2.Can I make connection with easy connect without having Net Services software installed on the client ?
3.What if I am not able to access sqlnet.ora ?
4.Is there any difference in connect string, which is based upon OS for easy connect ?
5.How do i use global database name, if it is configured ?
6.What are pros and cons of using easy connect ?
7....
20....
I think this are those 20 questions which John is talking about.

How to load data in HFM from oracle database without FDM
hi all,
I want to know that whether we can load data directlyrom oracle database residing on different server without writing the integartion script in FDM.
points to note:
we want to load data without using
1.FDM
2.Flat file
3.Excel file or csv or dat fileThe process is described in the EPMA administrator's guide, which you can find in pdf format included in the HFM product documentation. The file name is bpma_admin.pdf. In the case that you have installed HFM (and included EPMA during the installation process), you may find this file in a folder that will look like C:\Hyperion\FinancialManagement\Documentation\en.
If you do not have installed the products yet, you should bear in mind that all Hyperion product documentation (including HFM) can be downloaded from the e-delivery site of Oracle (http://edelivery.oracle.com). The Hyperion product documentation is a large archive (zip), containing smaller archives per product. The smaller archive you need to open once you download the complete product documentation is the hfm_93100_product_doc.zip. -
Connection to non-Oracle databases(MS Access) with Discoverer
Hello guys
I am new on this Forum. I am working with Oracle Discoverer and I will like to know how I can connect from Oracle Discover Administrator 4.1, to a non-Oracle database (on Microsoft Access or Dbase).
Please help me
Thanx.hello,
to connect to a non-oracle datasource, you have to use OCA which
leverages ODBC for that connection. this happens when the report
is executed in the engine, no matter if it is run in client
server or web. if you run it via web, you have to have the ODBC
drivers installed on the SERVER, of course !

Hadoop Implementation in Oracle Database without Exadata/Oracle hardware
All,
Please does anyone know if Oracle plans to implement hadoop without Oracle supplied hardware (Exadata and the like). The reason I'm asking is that at my company, we are now approaching a transation rate of 2000 t/s (transactions per second) and developers are beginning to complain about how slow Oracle is. They've gone ahead to move parts of the database to Cassandra, Redis and DynamoDB (and they're currently experimenting with MungoDB). I understand that some of these DBs operate a key/value system and so it's fast to retrieve data from them. I'm just wondering if Oracle plans to stem this tide by implementing Hadoop without packaging it with a hardware system so as to make it more affordable to implement as there are so many open source DB springing up theses days.
Please any useful information would be highly appreciated. (And if there's anyone out there close enough to Oracle, please, let them know these threats are real and my Oracle database is actually vanishing under me).
Thanks in advance.
BaffyAdam Martin wrote:
I don't have any more insight into Oracle's future with Hadoop other than what they have said in their statements of direction.
However, it struck me that you consider 2000 tps (or so) to be some kind of threshold above which Oracle technology will have trouble keeping up.
developers are beginning to complain about how slow Oracle isNo. It's not Oracle that is slow. Actually they are beginning to complain about how slow that particular system is performing. The application may be slow, and the database may be the bottleneck. But this does not mean that moving away from Oracle is necessarily the right solution.
Granted, there are excellent innovations in database technology right now, especially in the arena of massively parallel database systems. However, I would want to take a long look at the system design, from hardware to database design to application code before concluding that the dbms needs to change. There could be storage i/o sub system issues or application server issues or network problems too.
I am sorry if I am just regurgitating things you probably already know, and likely have analyzed to death with your system. But Oracle can scale well beyond 2000 tps while still serving up good response times. And it is also important to note that moving to these other database technologies sometimes comes with the need to sacrifice some part of the ACID (atomicity, consistency, isolation, durability) properties of transaction management present in a typical RDBMS like Oracle.I have told this story in a few other threads on this forum over the years, but it bears repeating for the OP.
Several years ago (more than I like to think about now) we were evaluating some commercial software for a specialized app in the industry in which I was working at the time. The sales team for one particular vendor kept talking about SQL Sever. I reminded him we were an Oracle shop and asked if their product would run on Oracle. His response was something to the effect that "It will, but we recommend SQL Server because we've found that Oracle bogs down with more than five concurrent connections." The meeting didn't last much longer and I made sure that vendor didn't make the short list. And the lesson is that even commercial software developers (or perhaps especially commecial software developers?) often don't have a clue ...
I'd guess the OP's developers also don't have a clue. Perhaps they are writing their apps to Oracle using what they learned as 'best practice' in SQL Server. Or perhaps they are even more clueless than that and the need to design for scalability and performance never even enters their minds. -
Upload a file into Oracle database without using a temp file in the server.
Hello.
I need to upload a file into a Oracle database, but I have not permission to write a temp file in the aplication server. Because of this, I can't use a MultipartRequest object.
Does anybody know how to do this?
Thanks everybody for your help. You can still use a MultiPart request.
Use the Apache FileUpload package.
Get the InputStream of the file being uploaded.
Now you can either store the file in memory by writing to a java.io.ByteArrayOutputStream or you can save the file to Oracle by writing it to a java.sql.Blob object using the Blob.setBinaryStream method. This Blob object can then be persisted to Oracle.
Unfortunately I don't have sample code readily available. -

Urgently! remove oracle database domain name
I have changed my database's global_name.
here is the script:
alter database rename global_name to testdb.com
then I want to change the database name back to testdb, how to do that? You need to recreate control file to make the change effective.
http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14231/create.htm#sthref338
For example, to create a database with a global database name of test.us.acme.com, edit the parameters of the new parameter file as follows:
DB_NAME = test
DB_DOMAIN = us.acme.com
You can rename the GLOBAL_NAME of your database using the ALTER DATABASE RENAME GLOBAL_NAME statement. However, you must also shut down and restart the database after first changing the DB_NAME and DB_DOMAIN initialization parameters and re-creating the control file. -
Access to reach Oracle database with ODBC
Hello oracle community,
Oracle 11.1.0.7.0, Access 2007:
We have an ODBC driver to connect to the oracle database over access. it is working fine, just when we open two instance of access on the same machine, two connections (over same ODBC) to different schema/users and starting a query, he is not able to find the tables of the second connection. it seems like he is using the wrong user. is there any solution or anything we are doing wrong ?
IkrischerI tried all three options: "use US setttings", "use Microsoft regional settings" and "use Oracle NLS settings", none worked (hope I dont need to reboot for that). When I am working with Toad and make an insert, I can perform an insert statement with '1,5' for a numeric column, everything is fine. When I am trying the same in the access programm (I can enter values there directly into the linked table) I get an error message ora-01722 for the value '1,5'. But if I try to insert 1.5 into access, he is converting it to 15.
PS: just made another test, not inserting values, just reading records from the table. I opened the table in Excel over the same ODBC driver, everything is fine, the value '1,5' for one record. When I use the same ODBC driver in Access, the vlaue is 15, that is funny. is there a problem in access ?

Can Oracle Database 10g and Oracle Database 10g Express Edition co-exist ?
I just installed Oracle Database 10g Express Edition. But I also want to access isql*plus for study purposes.
Can I download/install Oracle Database 10g without removing Oracle Database 10g Express Edition ?I decided to download and install Oracle 10g myself and it was pretty quick to install. So I answered my own question : Oracle 10g Express is definitely able to co-exist with Oracle 10g no problem.
I want to post/share this answer for others who started with Oracle 10g express first - the journey I started.
The url isql*plus is displayed near the end of the installation together with the enterprise manager url. Pretty cool.
Now I can learn both Oracle 10g enterprise edition and Oracle 10g Express which is based on apex engine. -
Oracle Database Express Edition 11g Database; Tables bigger than 11 GB
Dear all,
is it possible to make a part of big Tables (14 GB) visible in Oracle Database Express Edition 11g Database?
If yes, it would be nice to get the correct development.
Thanks in advance.

Does impdp application have any parameters for it See documentation library for regular editions, the Database Utilities manual covers Data Pump import and export tools
or maybe there is another software which can import only specified number of rows/bytes? Then you would need to export according to "another software" rules/format as well.
As the table is not that big, one could copy the table, delete selected rows large enough, and export from that table copy instead.
If it's not possible, could you please be so kind and provide the full test-version of Oracle database without 11GB limitation?Oracle provides, under the OTN downloads license, SE and EE editions. See http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/indexes/downloads/index.html -
Changes to enable oracle database xe for application like delphi
I will like to know if you have a plan to make easier to work using oracle database for small applications, using delphi, visual fox, etc.
This means maybe there will be a restriction to one (or maybe several) open database at a time.
An script to start on windows the database without using oracle services.
Did you thought in that solution?
Or there is currently one.
This is to keep very small systems.
Does anybody used it in a delphi application instead of msaccess or interbase.
Thank you.Thanks
-Do you mean limit the concurrent database connections? There is the SESSIONS instance parameter, but don't lower it below about 30 or so or the database housekeeping functions will suffer.
No only one oracle process at atime
it is possible to start an oracle database without creating a service, the idea is oracle create a tool for doing it.
What you do is to move the regedit variables to set variables in DOS, then you start the database.
i did it too on oracle develoepr 6i, I don't have to install to use it. -
Removing admin password form Access 2003 database front end and back end
We have a legacy database that has been passed down from the original creator, who is no longer with the organization. It was created in Access 2003. It has a front end and a back end. The original admin password can not be located and we are in the process
of upgrading this application to 2010. Is there a way to remove that password so we can make changes to the original files?Hi,
What password are you talking about, the one created with the workgroup manager? That will be difficult since 2010 doesn't have the workgroup manager anymore. You can still use the database in the 2010 environment but you can't make any changes to the original
database without the password.

This will ensure that without knowing the password, person won't be able to connect.
That said, there is no stopping for the person who would be knowing the credentials of your o/s or sys user.
