Remove partition created in reformat/reinstall for A50

So when I got my Toshiba Satellite A50, it had no partition I knew of, just a C drive with XP installed on it. But the disc that it came with for reformatting the hard drive and reinstalling XP is creating a partition!
So this is not the original installation or set up that I had.... I already have an external hard drive, I don't want a partition.
How can I remove the partition? I'm willing to completely reformat the hard drive all over again, but if so, how do I do that?
The Toshiba CD doesn't really give me a command prompt to go reformatting the hard drive myself....
The other annoying thing is that my C drive was NTFS, but the disc is creating one drive NTFS and the other FAT32... also ... what's really scary, is when the Toshiba disc loads it says "loading Windows 98".... to my understanding my laptop NEVER had 98 on it... I'm praying this isn't a 98-xp upgrade. It seems someone gave me the wrong disc with my laptop?
Or am I worrying over nothing?

Hello Lou
Believe me you worrying over nothing!!! Please dont be confused about loading W98 message. The unit starts in DOS mode and it is the same as on W98.
Now step by step explanation: I have done recovery procedure many times and have a little bit experience with it.
When starts, recovery CD shows menu with two options: STANDARD and EXPERT installations modes. STANDARD mode simply erases the whole HDD and creates one partition (the whole HDD capacity) for OS installation.
EXPERT mode should be used if you want to install OS on already created partition or if you want to create new partition for OS installation. Please note you can create just first partition there ( C: ) and you can not modify already created partition.
In my opinion it is always good to have two partitions, the first one for OS and installation and second one for data saving. You can not always have external HDD with you. If something goes wrong you can anytime install OS on first partition without loosing data saved on second one.
Anyway, start recovery procedure and choose STANDARD recovery procedure (option 1). The whole HDD will be formatted and Os will be installed on one partition.
Bye and if you have more questions please write again.

  • Unable to Remove Partition Created by Boot Camp

I partitioned my mac a few months ago and I didn't want it anymore because I ran out of space on my Mac HD. So I read a thread and it said go to 'disk utility' and click on 'windows' then 'erase'
Well that didn't work.. all it did was deleted my files that I had in windows. So then I read a thread and it said go to Boot Camp and follow the easy directions.. Well when I click continue on Boot Camp it says "The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition. The startup disk must be formatted as a single Mac OS extended (Journaled) volume or already partitioned by Boot Camp Assistant for installing Windows'
All I want to do is remove the windows partition so I can have more space on my Mac HD.

    Hi,

  • Create Boot camp partition on multiple partitions disk without reformatting

    Hi everybody,
I am trying to install Windows 7 on a multiple partitions 1TB disk.
    Currently I have 2 partitons:
    300GB - OS X Lion
    700GB - Data
I have read some tips and advices on how to install windows on multiple partitons disks - most of them are invasive (backing up to a removable drive and then reformatting). However, I haven’t found conclusive answer (hence my posting here):
I’m wondering does anybody know in any way - is it possible to do this more painlelssly - to divide second partition (or maybe first) and use that one as a bootcamp target?
Or am I stuck with reformatting to a single partition and then installing from scratch?
    Thank you.

No. To use Boot Camp Assistant your drive must start with a single volume encompassing the entire drive - one partition. BCA will then create a second partition for Windows and modify the bootloader so you can select which volume to use for startup - OS X or Windows. BCA can also remove the Windows volume and restore the drive to its original state - single OS X partition.
If you have more than one partition already then BCA cannot modify it. If you have a drive configured with BCA and subsequently add a third partition then BCA is no longer able to manage the drive, and you may no longer be able to boot Windows because of changes made to the bootloader.
So, yes, you are stuck with "reformatting to a single partition and then installing from scratch."
Your alternative is to create however many partitions you want. Install Windows on one of them. Download rEFIt to replace the standard bootloader so you can select between Windows and OS X (or any other OSes you install.)

  • How to create DB partitioning in active data tables for ods?

    hi all,
Can anyone let me know how to create DB partitioning in active data tables for ods. if any docs pls share with me at my email id : [email protected]

    Haritha,
The following steps will briefly explain you to improve the performance in terms of DB partitioning as well as loading. Please find the same,

and remove 'bex reporting' setting in ods if that ods not used for reporting.
    hope this helps.

    Symptom
This note contains recommendations for improving the load performance of ODS objects in Business Information Warehouse Release 3.0B and 3.1 Content.
    Other terms
Business Information Warehouse, ODS object, BW, RSCUSTA2, RSADMINA
    Solution
To obtain a good load performance for ODS objects, we recommend that you note the following:
    1. Activating data in the ODS object
In the Implementation Guide in the BW Customizing, you can implement different settings under Business Information Warehouse -> General BW settings -> Settings for the ODS object that will improve performance when you activate data in the ODS object.
    1. Creating SIDs
The creation of SIDs is time-consuming and may be avoided in the following cases:
    a) You should not set the indicator for BEx Reporting if you are only using the ODS object as a data store.Otherwise, SIDs are created for all new characteristic values by setting this indicator.
    b) If you are using line items (for example, document number, time stamp and so on) as characteristics in the ODS object, you should mark these as 'Attribute only' in the characteristics maintenance.
SIDs are created at the same time if parallel activation is activated (see above). They are then created using the same number of parallel processes as those set for the activation. However:if you specify a server group or a special server in the Customizing, these specifications only apply to activation and not the creation of SIDs.The creation of SIDs runs on the application server on which the batch job is also running.
    1. DB partitioning on the table for active data (technical name:
The process of deleting data from the ODS object may be accelerated by partitioning on the database level.Select the characteristic after which you want deletion to occur as a partitioning criterion. For more details on partitioning database tables, see the database documentation (DBMS CD).Partitioning is supported with the following databases:Oracle, DB2/390, Informix.
    1. Indexing
Selection criteria should be used for queries on ODS objects. The existing primary index is used if the key fields are specified. As a result, the characteristic that is accessed more frequently should be left justified. If the key fields are only partially specified in the selection criteria (recognizable in the SQL trace), the query runtime may be optimized by creating additional indexes. You can create these secondary indexes in the ODS object maintenance.
    1. Loading unique data records
If you only load unique data records (that is, data records with a one-time key combination) into the ODS object, the load performance will improve if you set the 'Unique data record' indicator in the ODS object maintenance.
    Hope this helps..

Sorry you are having problems. First of all try Fifrefox's safemode.

If that works post back for further advice.
Next step, if safe mode did not work.
<u>First: Try a clean install, (you have had a none standard version installed previously)</u><br /> that involves deleting the program files. Then if necessary try troubleshooting by creating and using a clean empty Firefox profile.
    See
    * this recent post [/questions/940399#answer-377134]
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Clean_reinstall
    <u>Second: try a New Profile</u>
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_Manager#Creating_a_new_profile
    * this will be an additional profile, it is still worth backing up any existing or currently working profile on a regular basis
**[[Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles]]
    * Until you are absolutely confident about the repercussions I suggest
** always use an empty folder when creating a new profile
** never delete or rename profiles, just disable or remove shortcuts
** after creating a new test profile open it and check for any addons or plugins that may be have been included by default

No, you can't partition a Time Capsule's internal HD.  Both partitions will back up to the same sparse bundle. keeping the backups for each partition separate.
Time Machine will not take the two OSX partitions as two different computers, but for best results, exclude the Snow Leopard drive from backups on the Lion partition, and exclude the Lion partition from backups on the Snow Leopard partition.
There may be some files on the Lion partition that Time Machine on Snow Leopard won't like, among other things.  See #10 in  Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions for details.

    Hi,
If I create an security scope for a group of SCCM-admins  should i remove the "Default Scope”?

Yes, it's OK to not add the Default security scope to an administrative user. You can add any custom security scope to an administrative user and it does
not has to include the Default
    security scope.
Just keep in mind that you keep at least an administrative user that contains the
All and/or the Default security scope to not lock yourself out of the console.

  • Truncating first partition created for table partitioned by INTERVAL

    Hi,
I have a table created with interval partitions.
When I truncate the partitions, I am unable to truncate the very first partition created on the table. How can I do this?
    Thanks.

    >
When I truncate the partitions, I am unable to truncate the very first partition created on the table
    >
I'm going to assume you mean DROP and not TRUNCATE and are getting thel following error when you try to DROP the very first partition
    >
ORA-14758: Last partition in the range section cannot be dropped
    >
Interval partitioned tables have one or more RANGE partitions and zero or more INTERVAL partitions. The boundary between the LAST range partition and the FIRST interval partition is known as the transition point.
As the error message states you cannot drop the sole remaining RANGE partition that is below the transition point.
You have to move the transition point by merging the last remaining RANGE partition and the first INTERVAL partition. Since dropping a partiton means you no longer want the data you would normally truncate the range partition prior to the merge to minimize the amount of undo and redo that will be generated by the merge.
See this article for an example of how to 'move' the transition point to effectively drop the last remaining RANGE partition.

  • Remove 'Create Like' from GRID for Jobs

Is there any way to REMOVE the 'Create Like' button from the Jobs tab. I have users that are required to RUN already established jobs, but are not allowed to CREATE or MODIFY jobs. It appears that if you give the jobs_admin right, then the user gets ALL rights. So, I thought that if I could modify the GRID page I could accomplish my goal.
    Anyone had to do this?
    Thanks,
    Brad

I thought that you had to grant SCHEDULER_ADMIN to a user in order to use any of the jobs area of Grid. If you know a way to get more granular and only provide submit and view for jobs, please let me know.

  • Removing Partition Failed in WD External HD All The Time!

Have problem in removing partition in WD External 1 TB Hard Drive!
The Main 1 TB WD My Passport is showing Format in MS-DOS (FAT) while the two partition under it shows in Mac OS Extended (Journeled)!
I want to remove both partition and creat one portion in Mac Extended (Journeled) Format. Everytime I try to create 1 portition with Mac Extended (Journeled) Format it failed with showing " Partion Failed : couldn't unmount disk" message!
Is there anyone who is faced same issue and fix it?
    Thank you in Advance

In your second image it says…
You can't resize the partitions on this disk because it uses the Master Boot Record partition scheme.
So you will have to delete both partitions & recreate them as desired, losing any data on that disk. Are you sure that you need to use a MBR partition table? Have you got backups of this data on any other disks? Backup these volumes before you begin.
MBR is generally a Windows format for booting Windows OS's. Mac OS used 'GUID partition tables' by default & will allow resizing on GUID tables but not MBR ones.
If you want to repartition the disk with a GUID partition table try this…
Select each of the volumes in the sidebar & choose 'Unmount' in Disk Utility's toolbar ('02' and 'Mac OS' should become unmounted unless some process is using files on either volume). Note: 'volumes' are the indented items below the disk in the sidebar.
In the Partition tab, edit the 'partition layout' to create 2 volumes & resize them to whatever you need, also set the format & names etc.
Click the Options button & set the partition table to use 'GUID partition table'.
When you apply that the disk will be reformatted & the entire disk will have the data removed & new file systems will be written.
If you cannot get that to work, quit all other apps reboot & retry - that may stop other apps using any files on these volumes.

  • I installed Beta 2 and it froze on the epub add on. I uninstalled it installed again same thing. unistalled then installed 1.1 removed epub then uninstalled and reinstalled beta 2. just freezes on 1st page. can I COMPLETELY remove to reinstall?

I have installed the FF4 Beta 2 and intially it worked well. I then went to add ons and it froze on full screen with epub. I have the screen shot if its any good. It sfull screen and has rss feed symbol in top left of screen then underneath Whats new - epub reader underneath Version 1.3.0.3 then underneath that its says bugfixes in some cases FF4 crashed when an ebook with epub reader was loaded and tabs where switched.
Anyway I uninstalled beta 4 then installed 1.1 and removed epub reader. Then reinstalled FF4 B2 but it just freezes on opening.
For the short whle I used Beta 2 it looked great speed wise compared to earlier versions.
I think if I was to be able to completley remove firefox and do a claen install it may work.

It sounds like you are using Firefox for Maemo (Nokia N900).
If you want a completely clean install, you can get rid of your old profile by typing this command into the X Terminal app before starting Firefox:
    '''cd .mozilla; mv fennec fennec.bak'''
(That will move your existing profile to a backup location, so a new one will be created. This will hide all your bookmarks, history, cookies, and add-ons, but you can restore the old profile from the backup if you need to.)

  • Partition a drive without reinstalling??

    Hello,
I currently am running Mac OS X Leopard with the following configuration:
Macbook, 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
I want to run Windows on my Macbook, but want to install Windows on a separate partition. Currently, my hard drive is not partitioned. So my questions are:
Can I partition a hard drive without reformatting it? If so, how?
Can I run Windows using Bootcamp from the second partition?
Can I run Parallels simultaneously with Mac OSX if the Mac OS and Windows are installed on separate partitions?
If there is a guide somewhere on the net or a previous discussion thread that explains the process of installing Windows on a Mac and answers these questions I would be happy to read it. Thank you very much,
    -AD

    AD,
If you want to install Windows, use the Bootcamp Assistant, located in your Utilities folder.
Bootcamp Assistant will partition your hard drive for you (the drive must have only a single partition, so you cannot partition it yourself first). Then, it will get you booted to your chosen Windows installation CD.
Once Windows is installed, your Leopard DVD contains a Windows installer that will install all the drivers Windows needs to access all of your Mac's hardware (GPU-specific drivers, iSight drivers, keyboard, etc., etc.).
Parallels can use a Bootcamp installation, on the secondary partition created by Bootcamp, to run in the virtual machine. The "guide" you need is right there in the Bootcamp help files (Actually, Bootcamp will instruct you to print a PDF with explicit instructions, prior to continuing through the Bootcamp process).

  • Trouble Removing Partitions

Okay folks, I am trying to remove partitions from my hard drive that I made for when I installed Linux Mint on my machine last fall.
Awhile back, I uninstalled Mint per instructions, however, I have been stumped as to how to reclaim space for those partitions (about 140 GB)
I go into Disk Utility, select my Hitachi Drive, click the partitions I want to delete, and hit the minus button in Disk Utility, then click remove, btu the utility gets frozen in "preparing to remove volumes" and makes no progess from that point!
How do I fix this and get rid of these partitions so I can get that disk space back?
runnning 10.5.8 on my 2.93 GHz Macbook Pro unibody.

Get your files off and c boot off the installer disk and Disk Utility Erase with Zero and format the drive HFS+ journaled and reinstall OS X. You might as well fresh install Snow Leopard while your at it and can still get it from Apple (hurry once Lion is out your screwed!)
Next time look at using rEFIt and setting it up that way it's a EFI program, there are uninstall instructions too.

Not the only one. Though I have not retryed my installation. Here is what happen to me and please verify if you had the same (sounds like it).
    1. Installed 10.8.4 on top of 10.8.3 and install went fine.
    2. I have installed a Niffy Drive (though no SD in it) ... but did not realize potential problem you suggest.
    3. its a MBPr
    4. Boot took for every (it 40 seconds from after I logedin to system screen on 10.8.3) but after (ie on 10.8.4) took forever 10-15 minutes with a cursor in the upper left on a white/gray screen.
    5. I reinstalled to 10.8.3 and all works as before
    6. But sounds like after removing niffy dirve I should reinstall??? Ie the problem I described was the same as yours.
