Remove POP account in Outlook but keep messages

I am relatively new to Mac... I have an old email account in my Outlook that I want to remove. However, I want to keep all of the downloaded messages. When I go to delete the account though, it says all messages will also be deleted. Is there a way around this? How can I save the messages? The email account is no longer active, so I want to remove it as Outlook is always trying to receive messages and comes up with erorr messages...
Thanks for any help!

Go to menu, Mailbox > New Maibox
Location, select On My Mac. Name: My Archive (example)
Go to your Inbox (the source), Select All Messages.
Go to Menu > Message > Copy to "My Archive"
Repeat the same for other folders. e.g. Sent
You can make sub-folders inside My Archive

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then copy it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
Step 1
Triple-click the line of text below on this page to select it:
kextstat -kl | awk '!/com\.apple/{printf "%s %s\n", $6, $7}' | open -f -a TextEdit
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Then click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. If the command produced no output, the window will be empty. Post the contents of the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window), if any — the text, please, not a screenshot. You can then close the TextEdit window. The title of the window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that. No typing is involved in this step.
Step 2
Repeat with this line:
{ sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.(apple|openssh|vix)|org\.(amav|apac|cups|isc|ntp|postf|x)/{print $3}'; sudo defaults read com.apple.loginwindow LoginHook; sudo crontab -l; } 2> /dev/null | open -f -a TextEdit
This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which you do have to type. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. Type it carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. Heed that warning, but don't post it. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
Note: If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before taking this step. If that’s not possible, skip to the next step.
Step 3
{ launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.apple|org\.(x|openbsd)/{print $3}'; crontab -l 2> /dev/null; } | open -f -a TextEdit
Step 4
ls -1A /e*/{la,mach}* {,/}L*/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,Keyb,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Spo,Sta}* L*/Fonts .la* 2> /dev/null | open -f -a TextEdit
Important: If you formerly synchronized with a MobileMe account, your me.com email address may appear in the output of the above command. If so, anonymize it before posting.
Step 5
osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to get name of every login item' | open -f -a TextEdit
Remember, steps 1-5 are all copy-and-paste — no typing, except your password. Also remember to post the output.
You can then quit Terminal.

• Removing an account in Outlook 2013

Hello, If I remove an account in outlook 2013 will the email folders that I created under that account also be removed?  I do not want them deleted!
Thanks!

It depends on the account - IMAP, Outlook.com, and Exchange accounts are server storage and removing the account will remove the data file. POP3 accounts are stored in the pst file and removing the account won't remove the pst from your profile.

• Convert POP account to IMAP without losing messages

I have several POP accounts I'd like to turn into IMAP accounts so I can use them more effectively on multiple machines. Unfortunately if I just create new IMAP accounts and then delete or disable my old POP accounts Mail hides all the messages attached to those accounts. I'm assuming there's some trick to convince Mail to associate the old messages with the new account (which will have the same name, user name and password, but I don't know what it is. If anyone knows, or knows of a string where this question is answered I'd be very grateful for the pointer.

first, your email providers for those accounts have to offer IMAP access. very few providers provide both POP and IMAP access. gmail is one. but if an email provider does not provide IMAP access then there is nothing you can do.
but assuming they do provide IMAP access, create separate mailboxes in "on my mac" section and copy contents of inbox and sent folders for those accounts to those local folders. then delete POP accounts in mail preferences->accounts and recreate them as IMAP. then copy the messages you saved in the local folders in "on my mac" section" to the inbox and sent folders of the newly created IMAP accounts.

• Want to unsync iphone from Outlook but keep my Contacts on my iphon, how???

Hi All,
Can someone be so kind in helping me answer my query???
I have synced my iphone to my Outlook, but now i want to remove the Outlook (Mail for Exchange) account from my iphone, but in that process it will remove all my contacts from my phone because its synced to Outlook.
Can someome offer some advice for me?
Thank You!!!!
Message was edited by: taki1986

When accessing a company Exchange account with an iPhone and syncing business/company contacts over the air, you can also sync personal contacts direct with a supported address book application on your personal computer at home via the iTunes sync process at the same time. All contacts that were on your iPhone when turning Contacts on for over the air syncing with your company Exchange account should be available with a supported address book application on your computer at home.
Most companies that provide an Exchange account do not want employees having business/company contacts on their personal computer at home or remaining on a portable device such as the iPhone when no longer employed.

• How remove primary account from outlook 2010

Hi,
I have 3 accounts setup in Oulook 2010 Beta, 2 Microsoft Exchange ones and 1 IMAP one. Now I want to remove 1 of the Microsoft Exchange accounts (because the company changed servers). And when I go to the Account settings, select the account and click remove
I get the following notice:
The primary account cannot be removed unless it is the only account in the profile. You must remove all other Exchange accounts before removing the primary account.
I can remove the other Exchange Account, but I don't want to as I want to continue to use it. How can I remove the primary account? (BTW: What is a primary account? Is it because this account was added first to the profile or something?)
Thanks a lot in advance

FORBES has the proper instructions here for this issue -
This worked out perfectly, I would propose this as the answer!
Issues:
Cant remove the Primary Account from Outlook.
Two Accounts appear to both be primary Account and you can't remove them.
You have deleted a Mailbox with the intention of getting rid of the Primary Account problem but after you delete the Mailbox Outlook still shows the accounts in the Mailbox list on the left side in Outlook.
You try and remove the data file but Outlook tells you to remove the E-Mail Name but when you try and remove a name it won't let you remove the account.
Resolve by:
Close outlook.
Open Control Panel and select MAIL.
Select Show Profiles
Select ADD and Enter the a Name for the Profile ( Example Persons Name )
Now Highlight the Profile that has the problem you experienced earlier and the select REMOVE to remove the Profile.
Select Apply and OK.
Check to make sure that the Exchange Mailbox has the proper DEFAULT Email Address you want for the problem user - make sure the proper email Addess is SET AS THE DEFAULT email Address.
Open Outlook and run the New account wizard for that user and it will reconnect to the mailbox with your mail and have only one Mail Account.

• Convert pop account to imap - lose sent messages and inbox messages

I converted a pop account to imap and lost the ability to search through messages prior to the conversion. Luckily I backed up all the messages. How do I get the ability to search them back? I tried moving them into the appropriate folder in finder, but they don't show up in mail.

i am having a similar problem - all of my sent messages disappeared from my mail program. i've located them in my home folder but can't figure out how to see them in my sent mailbox from the mail program ????

• Removing POP Account

I changed my ISP & setup a new acoount for my new email address.
I then deleted m old Pop account and it deleted all my exisiting emails from my inbox, sent, and deleted boxes.
Can I recover my deleted emails
Also,I need to set up my kids sub accounts and I don't want to lose their emails. Is there a way to delete the ld account without losing the emails?

Trish,
Not much hope of recovery the messages that were in the account folder of the removed account. Each email account folder has its own Inbox, Sent etc -- there is not a single Inbox. When you remove an account, if it is POP, you get warning message that says you will lose the messages on your Mac -- it is not to be ignored. A slightly different warning or prompt occurs with the removal of an IMAP account. Mailboxes that you create to organize and archive email messages are not impacted with the removal of an account.
What do you mean by "I need to set up my kids sub accounts"?

• OOPS - POP account Deleted AND all local messages

Well, NOW I find out that when you delete your POP account from your MAIL preference, all the messages from that account go bye-bye. Guess I am too used to the IBM world and MS Office that hangs on to your messages even if the mail server account goes away.
SO, is there any magic pill I can give my Mac to recover/find all these messages?
The server account is GONE and there are no messages on any server. All I have is the knowledge that there were 600 INBOX messages waiting for archiving reaching back to 2005 that are no longer visible from my mail box, and knowing that the computer took a good amount of time to eliminate that mail account when it got deleted.
Any Doctors/pharmacists with a perscription out there? Thanks ! Jim K.

If the messages are not on the server and you don’t have a backup (which you should have made before doing something like that), you may try to salvage as many deleted *.emlx files as possible with a data recovery tool such as Data Rescue II, TechTool Pro, or FileSalvage (the files to be recovered would be different in the case of Mail 1.x). Of these, the only one I know for sure that can currently recover deleted *.emlx files is FileSalvage. Stop using your computer right now if you want to try that, as anything you do with the computer may cause the deleted files to be overwritten.

• Removing interactive booklets from Library but keeping them available

I'd like to remove all interactive booklets from my primary Library, as I'm shuffling and throughout my library 24/7 and when it gets to one, it stops the shuffle/play process. But I'd obviously still like to keep them somewhere. Anyone have any good suggestions? Create a second library or playlist just for them - but won't they still reside on my main library still?

This works for songs, I don't have any booklets so I can't test them but you could try this. CTRL & Click on each booklet in the library to highlight them. Right click anywhere in the selection and choose Get Info, you'll get a message asking if you want to edit multiple items, choose yes. In the Info box choose Yes for the setting "Skip when shuffling"

• How can i remove photos from my phone but keep them on my computer

I want to remove the photos I have taken on my iphone to free space but I want to keep them on my computer? Is this possible?

Photos/videos in the Camera Roll can be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera. When there are photos/videos in the Camera Roll, the iPhone is also detected as a digital camera when connected to your computer.
Import utilities include an option to delete the photos/videos from camera after the import process is complete. The same applies after importing photos/videos from the iPhone's Camera Roll.

• Remove Sleep, Suspend, Shutdown, Hibernate but KEEP RESTART

Hi,
I'm working in the healthcare field, and a lot of the units we're deploying, the user cannot access the power button.
However, some of the software we use, on win7, is archaic enough that the computer needs to be rebooted on occasion.
Consequently, we want to remove the user's ability to turn the machines off.
We would like to disable sleep, hibernate and Shut Down, but retain Restart.
Is that doable?
If so, how?
Thanks!

There are two group policy settings that together will set what you need.
The first setting sets the default option that appears on the button. By default it's Shutdown, it looks like you want to set this to Restart. Check out
Change the default Shutdown / Log Off Option via GPO.
The policy is User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Start Menu and Taskbar -> Change Start Menu Button. Enable and set this to Restart.
The second option removes the unneeded options. Check out Remove Shutdown and Restart Buttons In Windows 7
The policy is User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Start Menu and Taskbar -> Remove and prevent access to the Shut Down, Restart, Sleep, and Hibernate commands.
Enable and keep only the Restart option.
Both of these settings can be applied using either a GPO if the machines are joined to a domain, or the local policy with gpedit.msc.
