Remove Printer stuck in Windows 8

Windows 8 won't let me remove printer definitions that are not working.  Going into Control Panel/Devices and Printers and following the "remove printer" dialog results in some cases in the printer entering a permanent "being removed" status.  I think it may have something to do with failed print jobs still being stuck in the queue for the printer in question.
Is there a way of forcibly removing unwanted printers?
If the problem is indeed due to stuck print jobs, how do I get rid of these?

Try using the Print Management tool.....follow these steps and let me know if this works
Try these steps from the Start Screen
1. Access the Charms bar (The pop out bar on the right hand side of the screen)
2. Select Settings
3. Under Settings select Tiles
4. Ensure show administrative  tools is selected to Yes
5. On the Start Screen select Print Management tile
6. Once the tool opens look to the left and select custom filters
7. Select All Drivers
8. Select your printer  right click then select delete
9. Under customer filters select All Printers
10. If you see your printer there select it and right click and select delete.
11. At this point I would suggest you restart you PC

  • Printer stuck in "delete-Printing" for four days; HP Deskjet 3000.

    Tried to print 6 page PowerPoint file on HP Deskjet 3000, but printer stuck and would not print. Tried to delete from queue, but status continually shows "Deleting-Printing" for past four days.  How do I fix this?

    Hi,
    From the Desktop, hold down the Windows key and press R.  Into the Run window, type services.msc and hit enter.  Browse down to the print spooler service, right click it and select Properties then click on the Stop button.  Now browse to C:\Windows\System32\Spool\PRINTERS and delete the job(s) inside this folder - You may need to click a prompt to gain the appropriate authority to open the PRINTERS folder.
    Restart the computer and you should find the document(s) have been removed.

  • Firefox crashing when printing large webpage Windows 7

    I have a fairly complex HTML document that is generated from a 3rd party application. It is approximately 100 pages of A4 at least.
    When generated on a Windows 7 machine, the HTML is generated fine and opens in Firefox 16.0.2 as expected. However, when the user goes to print to a network printer, the status bar hangs at around 10% and Firefox stops responding. Eventually, after around 7 minutes, the crash dialogue box appears.
    There is no appreciable spike in memory usage whilst this is going on. The document generates and prints fine on Windows XP machines.

    Does Firefox still crash in a new profile?
    Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
    See "Creating a profile":

    If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

  • Since update HP Officejet Pro L7680 printer work with Windows 7 I have an HP busy icon

    HP Officejet Pro L7680. Serial #[removed for privacy] . Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium.
    The install seems to have worked well, but there is now an HP busy icon in mid-screen for the past 24 hours. Can I get rid of it? I've tried evrything but a re-boot and don't want to do that if it will interupt a process.

    I have the same issue with my OJ 6500 (network connected).  And I've been just been sent on a wild goose chase to install the support assistant - which didn't actually resolve my issue.  When I go directly to the drivers, it recognizes my OS as Windows 10, but doesn't give me a matching driver package to download... How/when will this be resolved? Does anyone have a workaround?If I knew that my printer/scanner doesn't work anymore I certainly wouldn't have upgraded to Windows 10.  Win 8.1 wasn't perfect, but at least everything worked... Thanks for any suggestions!

  • Refresing the Printer Services (in Windows Environment)

    Hi,
    We implemented a service which shows the list of the printers to the end user. But the list of printers does not get refreshed when we add or remove a printer from the windows machine where this application is running.
    Does PrintServices get refreshed when a new printer is added or deleted ?
    In JDK 1.6 they implemented some logic to refresh the list of printers based on windows notification event *"FindFirstPrinterChangeNotification"*
    But i don't know for what events the java api updates the list of printers?
    There is a piece of native code WPrinterJob.cpp which gives the list of events... but that piece of code is commented for some reason...
    Does any body have a solution or a workaround for this problem?
    Here is the piece of code from WPritnerJob.cpp
    JNIEXPORT jlong JNICALL
    Java_sun_print_Win32PrintServiceLookup_notifyFirstPrinterChange(JNIEnv *env,
    jobject peer,
    jstring printer) {
    HANDLE hPrinter;
    LPTSTR printerName = NULL;
    if (printer != NULL) {
    printerName = (LPTSTR)JNU_GetStringPlatformChars(env,
    printer,
    NULL);
    JNU_ReleaseStringPlatformChars(env, printer, printerName);
    // printerName - "Win NT/2K/XP: If NULL, it indicates the local printer
    // server" - MSDN. Win9x : OpenPrinter returns 0.
    BOOL ret = OpenPrinter(printerName, &hPrinter, NULL);
    if (!ret) {
    return (jlong)-1;
    // PRINTER_CHANGE_PRINTER = PRINTER_CHANGE_ADD_PRINTER |
    // PRINTER_CHANGE_SET_PRINTER |
    // PRINTER_CHANGE_DELETE_PRINTER |
    // PRINTER_CHANGE_FAILED_CONNECTION_PRINTER
    HANDLE chgObj = FindFirstPrinterChangeNotification(hPrinter,
    PRINTER_CHANGE_PRINTER,
    0,
    NULL);
    return (chgObj == INVALID_HANDLE_VALUE) ? (jlong)-1 : (jlong)chgObj;
    This is in WINDOWS Environment.
    One workaround found on the web is to unload the Java class which caches these list of printers and reload it. But this process takes lot of time as it has to get all the list of printers every time.
    Thanks,
    Vijay.

  • Remove RAC node on Windows

    I have done all the steps to remove one RAC node but got stuck at the step of running rootdelete.sh file from $CRS_HOME/install directory as I don't have this file in windows environment.
    What is the equivalent file for rootdelete.sh on windows platform. I want to run this to remove the node info from the clusterware entry.
    Is there a good document that explains about removing the node on windows platform.

    Hello,
    You need to run the following steps to remove a node from a RAC cluster on Windows platform:
    Perform the following steps on a node other than the node you want to delete:
    1. Run the Database Configuration Assistant (DBCA) utility to delete the instance.
    2. Then run the Net Configuration Assistant (NetCA) to delete the listener.
    3. If the node that you are deleting has ASM instance, then delete the ASM instance using the srvctl stop asm and srvctl remove asm commands.
    4. Run the command srvctl stop nodeapps -n nodename of the node to be deleted to stop the node applications.
    5. Run the command srvctl remove nodeapps -n nodename of the node to be deleted to remove the node applications.
    6. Stop isqlplus if it is running.
    7. Run the command setup.exe -updateNodeList ORACLE_HOME=Oracle_home ORACLE_HOME_NAME=Oracle_home_name CLUSTER_NODES=remaining
    nodes where remaining nodes is a list of the nodes that are to remain part of the cluster.
    Perform the following steps on the deleted RAC node:
    1. Run the command setup.exe -updateNodeList -local -noClusterEnabled ORACLE_HOME=Oracle_home ORACLE_HOME_NAME=Oracle_home_name CLUSTER_NODES="".
    Note that you do not need a value for "" after the CLUSTER_NODES= entry in this command. If you delete more than one node, then you must run this command on every deleted node to remove the Oracle home if you have a non-shared Oracle home (non-cluster file system) installation.
    2. On the same node, delete the Windows Registry entries and ASM services using Oradim.
    3. From the deleted RAC node, run the command Oracle_home\oui\bin\setup.exe to start the Oracle Universal Installer (OUI). Select Deinstall Products and select the Oracle home that you want to de-install.
    4. Then to delete the CRS node, from a remaining node run the command crssetup del -nn node_name of the deleted node, node number
    5. Then run the command setup.exe -updateNodeList ORACLE_HOME=CRS home ORACLE_HOME_NAME=CRS home name CLUSTER_NODES=remaining nodes where remaining nodes is a list of the nodes that are to remain in the cluster.
    6. Then on the deleted CRS node, run the command setup.exe -updateNodeList -local -noClusterEnabled ORACLE_HOME=CRS home ORACLE_HOME_NAME=CRS home name CLUSTER_NODES=""
    7. Remove the Oracle home manually from the new node if the home is not shared and then manually remove the HKLM/software/Oracle registry keys and the Oracle services. 7
    8. After adding or deleting nodes from your Oracle Database 10g with RAC environment, and after you are sure that your system is functioning properly, make a backup of the contents of the voting disk using the dd.exe utility. The dd.exe utility is part of the MKS toolkit.
    ASM Instance Cleanup Procedures after Node Deletion on Windows-Based Platforms
    The delete node procedure requires the following additional steps on Windows-based systems to remove the ASM instances:
    1. If this is the Oracle home from which the node-specific listener named LISTENER_nodename runs, then use NetCA to remove this listener and its CRS resources. If necessary, re-create this listener in another home.
    2. If this is the Oracle home from which the ASM instance runs, then remove the ASM configuration by running the following command for all nodes on which this Oracle home exists:
    srvctl stop asm -n node
    Then run the following command for the nodes that you are removing:
    srvctl remove asm -n node
    3. If you are using a cluster file system for your ASM Oracle home, then run the following commands on the local node:
    4. rd -s -q %ORACLE_BASE%\admin\+ASM
    delete %ORACLE_HOME%\database\*ASM*
    5. If you are not using a cluster file system for your ASM Oracle home, then run the delete command mentioned in the previous step on each node on which the Oracle home exists.
    6. Run the following command on each node that has an ASM instance:
    oradim -delete -asmsid +ASMnode_number

  • Printing problem on laser printer attached to Windows XP

    Hi,
    I am trying to print a test page on Samsung ML-2510 laser printer connected and shared on Win XP. I have a green dot for this printer in Print & Fax on Mac, all looks cool. But I get the message 'On Hold (Authentication required) with red circle in printer status window on Mac. When I hit 'resume printing of selected jobs' it asks me to enter username and password for XP. I do, I hear the printer starting to print something but no page is printed. I have no problems using this printer from other XP machines.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks

    THIS WORKS, THANKS FOR YOUR HELP
    I just purchased a vista home premiun computer and was having the same issue making my hp 5150 printer work through a networked xp system that the printer is physically attached to..It now works.. procedure= ( on the vista computer ) remove all old printers and printer drivers from previous attempts.
    Go to this address and download this driver http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?os=2093&softwareitem=dj-46093-3&lc=en&cc=us...  HP_Vista_SF_Ph1.exe ,,click on it and let it install. when it ask if installing a local or network printer  (choose network ) continue install. It may tell u the drivers may not install properly, ( install anyway ) It may again tell you the drivers did not install correctly ( do not fix just keep them installed incorrectly ) now leave the print test page window open.
        Go to add printer wizard and install new printer ( network printer ) add a local port and type EXACTLY the same path to the xp based printer EXAMPLE= \\lisajunk\printer .....finish wizard and print test page...
    I done nothing to the xp computer, my printer and drivers work good on my other networked computers which use xp operating system.
    I believe creating the correct port and having the correct path on the vista machine is the key to making this work. I use xp pro SP1 on an old antique 400mhz gateway that my printer is physically attached to.. You need to make sure the printer is being shared on the machine it is physically attached too.

  • Can't Print Wirelessly To Windows shared printer

    Hi. I recently purchased a macbook pro and I am having trouble printing. My printer is an HP Photosmart 2600 series, and it is connected to a windows xp computer. I have tried pretty much everything. My printer is found on the mac, but when I try to print, "Connection failed: NTSTATUS_CONNECTIONREFUSED" shows up. Please help.
    Thanks

    The network host busy message can be a result of using the wrong IP protocol for the print queue, or having incorrect information.
    Many users select the IPP protocol, as it is the top item in the menu. IPP often requires a particular queue name, such as ipp, and it is not always a supported protocol by printers. So a suggestion would be to remove this queue and create it again, this time selecting IP > LPD or IP > HP Jetdirect for the protocol. The later is preferred, as it requires no specific queue name and will be the default print protocol being used by Windows.
    The other suggestion is that the IP address being used is not the printer but a Windows print server. You can confirm if the address is correct by typing it into your web browser. If this address is the printers then it will open its internal web page.

  • Printing from Windows 8 to a shared printer on a Windows 7 machine

    WE have a a user that has a laser printer on A windows 7 machine that others in the office can access EXCEPT the one person on a Windows 8 machine. We have tried everything, but cannot get her to print to this printer. Says it cannot be found. What does
    Windows 8 need to see a printer on a Win 7 workstation. She does have access to network printers and her own.
    Thanks.

    We have the same kind of problem but a bit different.
    Dell Printer (used for years shared on a network) was moved to our Windows 7 machine plugged in via USB.  We only use a plain workgroup with no Domain as we also have Macs on the network.
    I have Macs using shared printer, a Windows XP using the shared printer, and even Windows 7 under Parallels on the Macs using the shared printer no problem.
    I had the lone Windows 8 laptop using the shared printer but then it just stopped working.  So I deleted it and now when I try to add it is want credentials and none work.  It will not connect to the shared printer on the Windows 7 machine.
    I have Windows 7 (which also has a couple shared drives that do work) set for No Homegroup and No Password for sharing - pretty much open as we are behind a Cisco Firewall to the outside.  No firewalls on the pcs.
    Not sure where to go from here...

  • V3 Printer driver on Windows Server 2012

    Hello there.....
    I have installed Print services on Windows Server 2012. I have read several forum and found that it is a best practice to install V3 drivers if workstations run on Windows 7.
    Our all of workstations have windows 7 so I want to install v3 printer drivers. we have printers of HP and Canon mostly.
    So can anyone tell me how can I get V3 drivers of HP Laserjet P4015 for example...
    I have installed a driver but found its v4.
    Please tell me how can I install V3 driver for HP, Canon printers.....
    Thanks
    Kind Regards
    Namvi

    You would need to use the V3 drivers that the vendors provide to Windows Update
    http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Home.aspx
    or from the vendors website

  • Problems Printing to Shared Windows Printer Via SAMBA (foomatic error 255)

    I can NOT print from my MacBookPro to a printer that's shared out from my Windows PC. Of course, printing to this same printer from my PC works fine.
    Please help me resolve this printing problem.
    Read on for more details regarding my printing woes!
    I can successfully setup my printer on the MAC side using the Printer Setup utility. I see the shared out printer on my MAC; I can pick the printer's manufacturer and model. Everything looks ok regarding the setup of the printer on the MAC side.
    However, when I try to print a file from the MAC, the printer never prints. The print job appears to get queued on the MAC side. However, after a few seconds, the printer queue displays "foomatic-rip stopped unexpectedly with error 255" (if I selected a foomatic printer driver from the hpijs). Otherwise, it says "NTSTATUS_NOMEMORY" error (if I selected a gutenprint driver instead).
    The PC's Windows event logs show no problems. Indeed, the Security event log shows successful authentication & access to the printer.
    The MAC's CUPS error_log displays the these error messages:
    GutenPrint fails with NTSTATUS_NOMEMORY error, then says Cannot connect to SAMBA host
    hpjisGhostscriptFoomatic fails with "The process 'foomatic-rip' stopped unexpectedly with status 255"
    Later, I will post the exact entries from this log (I am currently separated from my MAC laptop until later this evening).
    My Apple MacBookPro is running MAC OS X 10.4.11 ("Tiger"). The printer is an HP DeskJet 5150 connected via a USB port to my DELL 8400 PC. This desktop PC is running Microsoft's "Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2").
    Based on reading other posts (here) and at the Linux Open Foundation (printing), I have already done the following:
    Installed gutenprint;
    Installed foomatic (foomatic-rip v3.42.2.15);
    Installed ghostscript (espgs v7.07.1); &
    Installed hpijs (hpijs v2.7.10).
    NOTE: This is NOT the same problem that I posted earlier regarding inability to print to a shared printer with Leopard (MAC OS X 10.5.0). Today's posting deals with my inability to print to the shared printer from Tiger (MAC OS X 10.4.11).
    NOTE: This may be a "red herring" but you may need this additional background to help resolve my printing problem. Originally, I ran "Tiger" (MAC OS X 10.4.10) on my MacBookPro laptop. Of course, networked printing worked fine at this point. On October 28, 2007, I upgraded to "Leopard" (MAC OS X 10.5.0). Leopard was a "disaster" for me (printing, networking & many other problems). On November 9, 2007, I "punted" and re-installed "Tiger" (MAC OS X 10.4.10) from Apple's original CD. On November 15, 2007, I upgraded to MAC OS X 10.4.11 via Apple's software update utility. I vaguely recollect that networked printing was working after I returned back to Tiger.

    As promised in my initial post regarding my printing problem, here are the actual error messages displayed in the Print Queue (Hp5150) and the "cups" error_log when I try to print any file to my HP 5150 that's directly connected to my DELL PC (Windows XP Pro) but shared out so that my MacBookPro should be able to print to it.
    Printer Queue Hp5150 window displays:

    Again, the system Event logs on the Windows XP side show no error messages. In particular, the Security Event Log shows that authentication was successful; so, the MacBookPro's client process was granted access to the printer on the DELL PC side of the transaction.

  • Photo Printing from Networked Windows 7

    My HP Photosmart Printer is  USB connected to a Windows XP machine which is directly attached to the home network.  Also have a Windows 7 64 machine  wirelessly connected to the home network.  The Photosmart printer was added to the windows 7 machine and selected as the default printer and I have no problems printing to it from the Windows 7 machine except that I only recently found out that I cannot select from various photo paper sizes to print photos from the Windows 7 computer.  All various printing programes only give me a limited selection of paper sizes to choose from when configuing the printing - Letter, A4, A5 Envelope, Legal, etc.   The same programs on the XP machine offer the choice of various photo paper sizes to print to.  It seems as though all of the Photosmart configuration options are not available via the Windows 7 computer. Should I try to install the printer on the Windows 7 machine again, directly from a downloaded HP installation file?

    Hi,
    Well, looks like you have to install drivers on the Windows 7 machine (if supported) but I how do we know your printer to find out ?.
