Remove Private Window Option in Safari MacBookPro

Remove Private Window Option in Safari MacBookPro
Hello there,
I am trying to remove the Private Window Option in my Safari MBP Version: 10.10.3. I have found the following guide below, but I could not find the "MainMenu.nib" file. Is there a way to find this? Or is it possible to remove the Private Window option at all by not doing the below steps? Thank you!
Disabiling for Safari:
The following steps will disable private browsing on all accounts.  Taken from: http://guides.macrumors.com/Safari#Disable_Private_Browsing (Note: you must have the Xcode tools installed - can get from App store):
Control or right-click on the Safari icon in Finder and choose Show Package Contents.
In the window that appears, navigate to Contents/Resources/English.lproj/ and double click on the MainMenu.nib file. (I cannot locate this file)
In Interface Builder (From Xcode,) select the window showing the Safari menu bar.
Select the Safari menu, then select the private browsing item and press delete.
Type command-S to save the changes, then close Interface Builder and restart Safari.
This removes the Private Browsing menu option, effectively disabling private browsing.

There were some means of customizing Safari through OnyX, a utility interface tool that
can be used to perform a variety of changes in OS X and a few of them could mess it up.
You can modify hidden features in the OS X by use of OnyX, instead of attempting to
perform some modification by command-line or Terminal; although the Man access
also appears there, too.
•Titanium Software - Home: (see OnyX)

A few command-line or terminal methods of changing how OS X works may be ill-advised
to attempt without learning more about how all of that works and also how to understand
the background system that changes when you mess with it. The GUI is the top layer.
Did you look into the Developer settings for Safari to see if that will change your windowed
options, without any external or deeper access to attempts to alter Private window view?
For me, I've not used Safari all that much, and not as default main browser in any of my Macs.
Good luck & happy computing!

    6.0.5 then.
In your 4th screenshot, click the padlock @ top right & authenticate as an admin user.
Return to the same details pane, if it's not still active, then double-click on the first Safari entry (or select it & then click the 'pencil' edit button).
Select 'Always', then click the expand arrow, now the 'New Key' button should be active : click it.
Click 'New Item' & change it to 'Private Browsing' from the drop-down list presented.
Set 'Type' as 'boolean' and Value to 'false'.
Now click Done or Apply Now to save the changes.
This applies to  the user(s) that you had selected in the left pane, regardless of their being admin or standard.

    Thank you

    Not that I know of.
Just tell her the X can't be removed.
    The customer isn't always right.
Can you think of any window in any other program that doesn't have an X button to it?  I can't think of an instance.  I can't think of any place besides LabVIEW that can have an X button that can't be clicked.
Is there a reason you do not want them to click the X button?  You can use an event structure to catch a Panel Close? event for the VI and discard the event so you can run your own code such as ensuring a clean and orderly shutdown of the VI.

  • Private window option no longer works

Until this week, I have always been able to access 'New Private Window' option from menu. For some reason, I can no longer do so.
    Your help would be appreciated.

Thank you so much for your help.
I had changed settings at the end of last week, including 'Never remember History' I did not realise that I would be 'In private' mode all the time, and have been clicking 'open in private window' expecting the new window to open as it used to.
Thank you again for your speedy and helpful response.

  • Removing private browsing option in FF4

I need my computer to be protected so on previous versions I have removed the private browsing option. FF4 does not have that option. I understand cache and browsing history can be stripped but there are always traces of bad views even just the video player gives you clues. If the private browsing removal is not possible I will have to move to a different browser and I love Firefox. Please help.

There is no private browsing in Yosemite or any OS. It's a feature of Web Browsers. In Safari it's where it always was: File -> New Private Window.

  • Can someone tell me the steps to disable the option of 'New Private Window' entirely from a compute for a PC? I don't want it to even show as an option. Thanks.

Need to disable Private Window options that appear in menus and buttons. Can someone provide step by step instructions to accomplish this? Thank you.

  • Problem with Flash videos. They are only display in "Private Browsing" mode, in Safari 5.1.7

The symptoms is: The flash videos are only display with a full red bar and nothing happen, no video no sound nothing. The Flash player was upgrade with 11.2.202.235. before safari 5.1.7. I have an iMac with SL, and a Macbook with SL too. However after I upgraded safari 5.1.7 the flash videos are not display correctly, (only videos). The same happen in both computers.
I need to tell you that I follow all the possible recommendations that I founded in internent. I uninstall flash pug-in many times. I restore both. I switch many buttons and options like "reset safari", "empty cahe", "block pop-up windows", "enable java-script", "enable java". I turn off and on the firewall. I switch all the options in the flash player plug in preferences. And nothing. I turn on and off the plug ins. In fact I tried all the possibilities in the preferences menus from the programs.
In one occasion I had a glimpse of functionality for only one hour without problems after I reinstall safari from the Apple website, but only worked until I turned off the computer. The next day was the same problem.
After I fought with safari 5.1.7 and the plug-in flash player 11.2.202.235. Now I noticed something wired, only when I switch the "Private browsing" option in safari is when the videos are displayed correctly.
The same videos work perfectly in Firefox.
    Some Suggestions?

Thank you everybody, the problem was corrected in a unexpected way, I decided no to pay attention to the problem after a week fighting with that. I was navigating in a private browsing for two days. I turned the private browsing off again the next Monday, after a week I noticed that all the videos were display correctly, I do not have the problem again. That was wired because at the same time in the laptop everything is ok too. I have my extensions ON, Block Pop-up windows, In Flash payer all the options in ask....something. Only the option Disable Java script in not activated, only when I activate that option all videos are not display.
I think maybe I updated the computer and maybe something happened in the middle. I always update my imac and my macbook at the same time. There is a Flash removal security update in may 14. Maybe that fixed the problem.
Thanks to everybody, everything is ok now however I wanted to know what was the problem.

  • Removing Private Browsing, Clear Cache, etc. options from Safari

This was discussed earlier, but the situation just came back up here at school as students have been found clearing history etc. to cover their tracks. This was originally posted by Yang in May 2006.
"If you have the developer tools installed, or more specifically, Interface Builder, you can easily remove the 'Private Browsing' and 'Reset Safari' menu-items. Create a copy of Safari and browse to '/Safari.app/Contents/Resources/English.lproj/'. Open MainMenu.nib in Interface Builder. In the template of the menu bar which appears, browse to and highlight each menu-item and hit backspace to delete. Save and quit. That Safari application package will now be missing the menu-items.
You can replace the original Safari package with the modified one, and maybe have the unmodified version in the 'Applications' folder of an administrator's home folder.
Unfortunately, the 'Clear History' menu item seems to be generated dynamically. I can't seem to find the reference to it in Safari's resources. However, that said, I believe there are more elegant solutions to tracking a user's browsing history. In fact, it might be advisable to look at third-party solutions - ones which write history to a separate file. For instance, even if the menu-items are missing, it is possible to simply trash the relevant .plist after each browsing session to remove all traces of its history."
In doing that, I found that while you can't remove the dynamically created "Clear History" from the History Menu, you can open "/Safari.app/Contents/Resources/English.lproj/Localizable.strings" with Project Builder from the Developers Tools and edit what shows in the menu. Just change what is after the = sign for the items you want to change and save it. It may not stop the practice completely, but it will slow things down. (Students may think twice before selecting a menu option that says "Permanently Archive History".) This doesn't change the function, just what it is called on the screen. I also removed "Empty Cache..." from the menu and changed the label and icon for History when you "View All Bookmarks" to reduce deleting them through that method. It makes them harder to find.
Just be sure you are modifying a copy of the App so you keep the original. I then used Remote Desktop to copy the modified application into the Applications folder on the student computers. So far, only limited testing, but everything seems to work at this point.
By the way, this was my first experience with Developers Tools and they really aren't that daunting if you think things through first.

Seems I'm out of touch with school day issues.
It appears you would rather snoop on behavior and punish Web "wrongdoers" than let students imagination and a few "rules" guide their Web experiences.
If a child is smart enough to know how to "cover their tracks" then they've learned something wrong from your instructors.
You may just want to take away their browsers and replace them with:
    http://www.makienterprise.com/kggg/kidsgogogo.html
You also mention Apple Remote Desktop in your post. It allows you to view what any machine is doing.
Instructor is not at a machine taking a "peak" over the students shoulder? Worked when I was in school.

  • Can I remove the "private browsing" option?

Is it possible to completely remove the private browsing option in Firefox? I don't like the idea of people in my family having access to all sorts of sites, undetected by anyone. If not I may have to remove Firefox completely and return to Internet Explorer. Any help on this would be good.

You could use the Menu Editor extension ([https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/menu-editor]) to remove the menu entry, but this is only of limited use. For example it does not prevent anybody from clearing the browsing history.
An alternative approach is to use a parental control program such as the free K9 web protection ([http://www.k9webprotection.com]). That program has its own log of sites visited, and you can use it to block access to categories of sites that you choose.

  • How do I remove the Windows partition? Boot Camp Assistant does not allow me to select the remove option.

I am using an iMac, 8.1, early 2008. I installed Windows XP at that time. I am now using OS 10.8.5 and want to remove the Windows partition to free up disk space. Boot Camp Assistant does not allow me to select the "install or remove" option. How can I get rid of the Windows partition?

You can try removing it in Disk Utility.
To resize the drive do the following:
    1. Open Disk Utility and select the drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list.
    2. Click on the Partition tab in the Disk Utility main window. You should see the graphical sizing window showing the existing partitions. A portion may appear as a blue rectangle representing the used space on a partition.
    3. Select the bottom rectangle/partition. Click on the Delete [-] button below the sizing window to remove it. Click on the Apply button. Wait until the process has completed.
    4. In the lower right corner of the sizing rectangle for the remaining partition is a resizing gadget. Select it with the mouse and drag it all the way down to the bottom. Click on the Apply button and wait until the process has completed.
You should now have a restored single volume on the drive.
It would be wise to have a backup of your current system as resizing is not necessarily free of risk for data loss.  Your drive must have sufficient contiguous free space for this process to work.

  • I want to remove the "private browsing" option. how?

Firefox automatically installed the "private browsing" option on my browser. I do not want it.

    Every time Firefox opened

You have or had an extension installed (NET_mmhpset) that has changed the user agent from Firefox/3.6 to Firefox/3.0.x.
You can check the '''general.useragent''' prefs on the '''about:config''' page.<br />
You can open the ''about:config'' page via the location bar, just like you open a website.<br />
    Filter: '''general.useragent'''<br />
If ''general.useragent'' prefs are bold (user set) then you can right-click that pref and choose ''Reset''.
