Remove program from start menu

I want to remove Dropbox AND iCloud from my start menu - they slow up the process and I don't use them all the time. Can any one tell me how? thanks

System Preferences->Accounts->username->Login Items and remove what you don't want running at boot time. As for the iCloud account, I don't use it, so you'll have to figure that one out on your own.

  • Run java program from start menu

Does anyone know how to write a class so that when a user is running my program for the first time they can run an installation file that will put a shortcut to my bat file in the start menu.Know of any place i can get info on setting up an installation class or something similar.
If you could give me some info would greatly appreciate it,it's my first time doing anything this big and not really sure where to start with writing an installation file

If your program is just for windows then giving the user an exe instead of a .bat file will help.

Your user will either need to have a JVM installed on their machine or you will need to provide one with the application. If you intend to provide one, the licence doesn't allow you to install it on to the target machine, but you can place the java dir in your directory structure and access the java/javaw command by a relative path (see the help on the above site for that)
Once you have a directory structure set up for your application, you can use any comercial intall program to give give you a setup.exe file or whatever. if you are providing the VM with your distribution, then the file will at least 14MB plus your class and resource files. If you read the licence agreement for distributing the VM, it tell you what files can and can't be removed from it to make the file a bit smaller. For instance, you can remove webstart because you won't be using that.
search http://www.download.com/ for installers. I think there are a few ad supported ones if you don't want to pay

  • Can't add or remove programs from dock

I suddenly have a problem where I can't add or remove programs from the dock.  When I try to drag a program icon to the dock it won't stick to it and shows a "+" next to it in green.  When I try to drag an icon off the dock it shows a shadow of the icon that won't go away.  I tried making a new user and the same behavior occurs in that user.  I tried finding my com.apple.dock.plist but couldn't locate it.  I was able to find com.apple.dockfixup.plist and tried deleting that but it didn't help.  Any recommendations on where to go next?
    Thanks

Thanks, I will try this when I get home today.  However, the fact that the problem was not corrected when I made a new user makes me think that deleting this file from my user Library folder may not correct the problem.  Any other suggestions if deleting the dock.plist file doesn't work?

  • How to remove "help" from the menu bar?

I'm using a landscape monitor in vertical mode, so I have a very narrow top of the screen. I never use the help button, ever. How can I remove it from the menu bar, freeing up some space? I need more space in the menu bar for MenuMeters etc. Thanks.

Usually the apps belonging to these icons have an option that allows you to hide the Menu Bar icon by allowing them to run as an app in the dock. However, certain applications like Caffeine must show their icons as otherwise you wouldn't be able to access them.
For example, Dropbox doesn't allow you to remove its menu bar icon:

One or more menu widgets within your site have become out-of-sync with the structure of your site in Plan view. If you send us the file we can repair and return it. Or you could delete and recreate the menu widgets.
Please send us the .muse file at [email protected] along with a link to this thread. If the file is larger than 20Mb you can use a service like Adobe SendNow, Dropbox, WeTransfer, etc. (If you use a service, please include your return e-mail address in the body of the message, since not all services include it in the sharing invite they send.)
    Thanks.

  • Remove items from start up menu

I installed smartboard program from external harddrive and it startups every time I turn on my computer.  I don't need it to start up everytime I open my computer, its annoying having to close it.  How do you remove it from the startup menu....so that it doesn't open everytime I open my computer?

Try System Preferences>Users & Groups>Login Items. Remove it from there. Other than that contact the vendor.

  • Remove picture/link to 'user accounts' from start menu by GPO

    Hi,
I'm trying to remove everything from the start menu, users will have desktop short cuts appropriate to their role and nothing else.  The last item I cannot disable or remove is the picture which also functions as a link to 'user accounts'.  I don't
care if the picture stays just so long as it is completely static.
Alternatively, a means to completely remove the start menu would be fine.
    Thanks

How can I remove the icon?

    Hi
I have checked the screen shot and it seems that you use the Windows XP Start menu and not the Classic Start menu.
Please click right on the green Start button and select Properties.
Then the window Taskbar and Start Menu Properties should appear.
Then switch to the tab Start menu and press the Customize button.
There you could try to clean the list of the programs
Please also check the Advanced tab and the Start menu items list.

  • How to remove a folder and some links from start-menu

    Hi!
An application (Kaspersky Antivirus) is installed on quite
some Win2K-SP-Workstations by the Kaspersky Administration
    Kit (with its own installer).
With this installation an entry to the start-menu is made
and this entry shall be removed by Zfd 3.2-SP3. I ran
through some tests with an application-object (run as secure
system user), which only intent was to remove this entry.
First I tried by "Distribution Options - Application Files"
to remove the folder "C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\All
    Users\Startmen\Programme\Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for
Windows Workstations". Then I tried a "Distribution Script"
    with "RD /S /Q "C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\All
    Users\Startmen\Programme\Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for
    Windows Workstations"", which also failed.
Do I miss something? Where could I check the results of
those tries to get a better feeling on what is going wrong
    here?
    Thanks in advance.
    Karl

When doing the job with an *.bat-file it works, when going
with the distribution script it does not. Are all the
windows/dos/batch commands available in the distribution
    script option?

  • Removing iTunesHelper from start-up programs, a bad idea?

I would like to remove iTunesHelper from my start-up, is this a bad idea? Will it hurt iTunes performance?
    Thank you.
I would also like to remove QuickTime Task, that ok?
    Message was edited by:adding info

    it won't hurt at all:
This is what the iTunes helper does, it makes it so whenever you connect an iPod/iPhone/iPad/etc., if you have the option to do so enabled in iTunes, it will automatically open iTunes for that device.
So, remember that checkbox "Run iTunes when this device is connected?" in your iPod screens? Yup, iTunes Helper is the tool that helps manage this and determine the device is connected, and runs iTunes if it is not open.
That said, if you like this feature, then you'll want to keep it around. If you disable it, when you connect a device, iTunes will not open automatically, even if you specifically told it to do so before, since it requires iTunes Helper to do that.
However if you don't care for this, and wish to open iTunes manually, then there is no problem with removing it from your startup.
I am not sure about the quicktime task. sorry

  • Can't Move or Remove iTunes 7 Start Menu Shortcuts

Once iTunes 7 is installed, it creates a set of program shortcuts in the "start menu > all programs" area. I often reogranize these shortcuts myself post-installation.
However, when I move or delete the iTunes 7 shortcuts from this area, the next time I start the iTunes program it runs the installation / configuration process again and restores all of the program shortcuts.
It does not care if I remove the desktop or quick launch shortcuts, but as soon as I change the start menu programs shortcuts it throws a fit and restores them.
Any fixes / explanations for this, or is it a legit bug?

This appears to be an intentional "feature" of iTunes 7.

  • WLS 5.1 SP6 with JRE 1.3 - Cannot start server from Start Menu or as NT service

    Hi:
I am trying to setup WLS 5.1 SP6 runing with JRE 1.3 on Windows 2000 Server to
run as an NT Service or from the start menu. The wlserver program is invoked the

    as an NT Service)

I found old messages in the newsgroups indicating that there have been issues
with WLS 5.1 and Java 1.3 on NT running as a service or from the start menu.
But there does not seem to be a resolution to this problem yet.
Is there a workaround to this issue. Is there a new wlserver that supports 1.3
for WLS 5.1. I am running with SP6 because we need to run with WLCS 3.2 also.
WLS 5.1 starts up fine as a service or from the start menu with the JRE 1.2 shipped
with the product or from a command window with startWeblogic running SDK 1.3
Thanks in advance for any help to clear this up.

Thanks for the suggestion... the registry already has this setting... that does
    not seem to be it.
From looking closer at what is installed with the 1.3 JRE versus the 1.2 JRE packaged
with the 5.1 server... it seems to me that the issue has to do with support for
    the Hotspot VM.
The 1.3 JRE has a hotspot subdirectory under the bin, there is no classic subdirectory,
as is the case with the 1.2 JRE in the 5.1 package or even with a standard SDK
    1.3 installation.
Does 5.1 support the hotspot vm. How can I switch it to use the 'older' JVM instead?
If I copy the 'classic' jvm.dll from the sdk 1.3 installation into the bin\classic
directory of the 1.3 JRE, the server does start, but an error message indicating
that the javai.dll was not found still comes up. Followed by the following error:
Warning: JIT compiler "symcjit" not found. Will use interpreter.
The server startup output then comes up ... Please help, anyone?
