Remove rEFIT Linux partition

Hello, I installed linux usign rEFIT correctly, but now I want to remove the partition and combine the Linux and the Linux swap partition back into the whole partition. If you were wondering why I want to uninstall it, I just wanted to use a Virtual Machine to run Linux, because that is what I was advised to do recently, instead of dual botting. So, I was wondering if anyone knows how to simply combine the partitions and remove the Linux Partition off of my computer.

Smart decision, that's exactly what I recommend as well.
Jt's rare that one will need the full hardware performance of Linux on a Mac, and if so, then it's better direct installed on a PC.
Apple doesn't make it easy to install Linux, nor provides the hardware drivers for it. So someone has to hack those and since Apple has went all AppStore crazy...

With rEFIt it hasn't been updated in ages, there is another like EFI program that has taken over their function in that area.

The uninstall instructions to remove the EFI program from your EFI firmware parittion is here, but like the rest it hasn't been updated since Snow Leopard days back in 2011. So it's unknown how things will go with Lion, Mountain Lion or Maverick.
You should FOR SURE, clone your OS X partition to a external JHFS+ (GUID OS X Extended Journaled) drive using Carbon Copy Cloner, which you can then hold option/alt key and boot from it (provided your EFI firmware is still working. LOL. (but you can still direct access files from another Mac, or Windows with MacDrive or Linux)
Make a bootable clone of your boot drive
Create a data recovery/undelete external boot drive

You likely should also create a EFI firmware restore cd, this will return the at boot key commands at the second attempt to boot the machine after the firmware has been applied.
Get your model identifier correct (OS X System Profiler or Apple's Hardware Test)

Now you should be WAY overprepared for nearly anything.
As you should know, EFI is a firmware partition, and programs like rEFIt can be installed there and then are loaded (second boot) into NVRAM (I believe.)
Once rEFIt is removed, you use the option/alt keys at boot to use Startup Manager to get into OS X (f you have it)

Cant Remove Failed Linux Partition

So a while back I attempted to install Ubuntu on my MacbookPro with an install CD but I failed.
I notice though, that somewher in this process my computer created 4 partitioned drives on my hardrive.
Now, my main drive only has 60 GB of space because its being taken up by all the other partitions.
But when I try removing the partitions I get a different error for almost every one:
Error for 1st partition: Mediakit reports partition (map) too small
Error for 2nd partition: Filesystem resize support required, such as HFS+ with Journaling enabled
Error for 3rd partition: Could not modify partition map because filesystem verification failed
Error for 4th partition: Mediakit reports partition (map) too small
I've been trying to solve this problem for weeks, some help
would be incredibly appreciated.

Clone your one good partition to an external drive, then boot from the external drive, open Disk Utility on the external drive, select the internal drive, and repartition and reformat it from scratch as a single partition. You probably won't be able to resize the faulty partitions, and I wouldn't depend on things to work properly even if it appeared you had been successful in resizing them.
Once the internal drive is repartitioned and reformatted, clone the external drive back onto it and resume normal operation.

Removing Linux Partitions

I installed linux on a separate partition and was dual booting it. For some reason it also created a huge number of extra partitions. Now after deleting the main linux partition it won't let me delete the other partitions (I'm actually not sure which are
windows 8 partitions). Is there any way to extend the "C" drive to fill the unallocated space (as seen in the picture)? Which of the drives are necessary?
Note: The extend drive option in DISKMGMT.MSC is grayed out, as far as I can tell this is because they are not next to each other. Is there a way to rearrange it?

As I know, It won't be labeled since Windows doesn't understand the Linux file system, so you'll need to figure out which one it is by size and where it is on your hard drive. But, you can identify the Linux partitions because they have no label under the
“File System” column, while Windows partitions will be identified by their “NTFS” file system.
Since you can't extend the volume, you may also choose to create a new, separate partition instead of expanding your current Windows partition, if you like.

REFIt, Linux and Windows on a MAC

I recently thought that I nerfed my Windows installation, by mistakenly installing Linux (Ubuntu) after installing Windows. Next boot I got GRUB Hard disk error and could no longer boot windows, and the thought of reinstalling Windows infuriated me because I would have to spend half an hour or more on the phone with Customer Service to obtain a new Product Key to authorize a new installation.
Well, after much research, and some figuring out, I realised the MBR (Master Boot Record) Boot Code was set to GRUB. How do I get it back to normal I thought.
Well obviously obliterate your Linux install altogether is first step. Remove rEFIt because you need to boot up in single user mode, and that gets overridden by rEFIt's terminal program.
Once at prompt in single user mode type:
fdsk -u /dev/rdisk0
that will reset your MBR to default.
Next insert Windows installation when u get the choice to install or recover, hit R for recovery mode at the C:\ prompt type FIXMBR and enter.
exit and reboot and viola Windows boots up and all traces of Linux and GRUB gone.
Next project is to figure out how to clone my Windows installation safely and be absolutely positive that I can restore it. Since I would like Linux on my system. Unfortunately, I did not build an NTFS drive so Winclone not an option. I read somewhere that Disk Utility restore feature can do it, if I partition an external drive to same size as Bootcamp drive and format it to MS-DOS and back it up to that.
Anyway, I think FIXMBR is a possible fix to Disk Read Errors, as I would imagine the DREs are related to the MBR being borked.

I answered my own question.
For those of you (like me) who aren't sure how to do this:
1 - make sure your boot disk is set to your Macintosh Partition (in the system prefs)
2 - shut down your mac
3 - hold down the "apple" key and the "s" key
4 - while holding this down turn on your computer (and keep holding this key combination until a black screen with white text appears)
5 - wait until this screen stops changing (it's done loading)
6 - type in *fdisk -u /dev/rdisk0* and press enter
7 - it may ask you if you want to make a new MBR, if it does type y and press enter
8 - once it has finished, type exit and press enter
9 - it will return to mac os X, (without bluetooth until you restart.
Part 2---------
1 - insert your Windows install disk
2 - restart your computer and while your computer boots (and before the apple logo appears) hold down the "alt/option" key until there is an icon of your hard drive and the cd-rom
3 - select the cd and press enter
4 - the cd will boot. It might ask you if you want to boot from the cd. push any key before the (and push it soon or else you will have to start part 2 over again)
5 - it will load (for a while)
6 - go get a snack because it takes about 5 minutes to load
7 - when a screen asks you if you want to install or repair, choose repair (push R)
8 - choose your disk (most likely number 1) and push enter
9 - if you have a password set, you will need to type it in. (I had trouble and the password turned out to be the password I had before my current password.)
10 - type in FIXMBR and push enter
11 - It might give you a warning, type y and push enter
12 - type exit and push enter
You can now boot to XP and osX

Can't install Windows 8.1 on Macbook Pro (mid 2012) after installing/removing refit

So I recently installed and removed rEFit on my macbook (I was trying to clone a windows install to the drive to keep it handy, and thought I'd need it to boot from the install), and haven't been able to get Windows 8.1 (x64) to install since -- I keep getting an error message (0x C0000005). I've tried removing all the partitions the installer makes, leaving extra room, etc, but nothing works. I tried to run the EFI updater, but it says it isn't supported by the system (I downloaded the 9,1 version).
Anyone have any ideas?

Quick update -- I've tried resetting the pram, running the windows startup repair, and running bootrec.exe through the command prompt. No luck with those so far.
Just opened disk utility and saw the screenshot below....could be part of it, but I've deleted the partitions several times...

Before this i have issue with my partition table, but i can fix it with testdisk.
After that, i merge all my linux partition into one. I mean like this
Before i merge my linux partition:

/home >> /dev/sda7
My new partition
/ >> /dev/sda3
swapfile >> /dev/sda6
i can't boot my arch after i backup and moved my home and var directory to /dev/sda3 with livecd.
How to fix this issue?

Solved by myself! LOL
I edit and remove /dev/sda4 and /dev/sda7 in my /etc/fstab file with livecd.
Now, arch boot without /dev/sda4 and /dev/sda7

Lenovo G460 Windows 7 One Key Recovery with a Linux Partition

Hi All,
I recently bought a Lenovo G460 Notebook and installed linux on it to dual boot with WIndows 7. There was a problem with sound which I got fixed and everything is working fine now.
My question is:
Will me linux partition be there as it is If I recover the windows 7 partition using one key recovery?
How to create a rescue disk from One key recovery?

How can I remove the BootCamp partition? as the size i created ws too small to install MS Office on 64Bit Windows 8.1 on MacBook Pro (Aug'13)

How can I remove the BootCamp partition drive for Windows 8.1, as the size which I created was too small for me to install Microsoft Office onto Windows 8.1 64-BIt. The machine which I have is the MacBook Pro 13' inch purchased in August 2013.

Either use Paragon's CampTuneX to resize it or use Boot Camp Assistant to remove the partition and restore the drive to one partition. Then create a new, larger Boot Camp partition. This will remove/delete/erase your Windows system.

Hi, i own an HP notebook model Pavilion 15-e070sl and i want to know how i can remove the recovery partition. I just performed a clean install from my System Recovery DVDs and i don't need the recovery partition anymore (since i got those DVDs), so i decided to delete it from the HP Recovery app; now the data has been deleted but i have a 17GB circa unallocated space on the disk, and i'd like to merge it with C to get some more space, but i don't know how to do it. I tried with thw windows disk management and i can't, i tried with easeus partition master but after moving those two little partitions before the unallocated space or even deleting them (see the pic http://img850.imageshack.us/img850/6928/1lge.png) i can't expand C: to get rid of the unallocated space.
Any suggestion?

Hi,
Assuming E: is the Recovery Partition. Please try:
Right-click Computer > Manage > Storage > Disk Management, then right-click the graphic of the E partition and select Delete. The partition returns to Unallocated for a Primary Partition or Free Space if it‘s a Logical Drive within an Extended Partition. Delete the partition if it is an Extended partition.
Now right-click the graphic of the C partition and select Extend.
Note: C and E must be sitting next to each other.

How do I remove a Windows partition after Firmware message?

Want to remove the windows partition on my 2006 MacBook running Leopard. I tried Bootcamp Assistant but it says I need to update my Firmware. I downloaded the update suggested and then had a message saying the firmware didn't need updating. Tried Bootcamp again and had the same update message. How do I get rid of the disk partition? Any suggestions appreciated.

Related problem. I upgraded my Tiger partition to 10.6.8. Boot Camp was eliminated in the process. When I choose Boot Camp assistant from finder it checks and reports that the 'software is not available' (core 2 duo 3,1).
I understand that DU is not to be used but I can't figure out how to eliminate the old Win XP if I can't get bootcamp installed.
Any ideas would be very much appreciated.

Problem removing a window partition

today i installed window xp via boot camp, the installation seems fine all the way up until the step 'to install boot camp drivers'. after i inserted the Max OS X disc, it went thru the normal installation...etc. then towards the end i got the 'Found New Hardware Wizard' window and a second saying boot camp is finished. however, at this point the mouse is dead and i am unable to move it. i rebooted it a couple of times, still the mouse is disable.
so, i boot back to Mac OS, open up Boot camp and decided to remove the window partition. i chose 'If your computer has a single internal disk, click Restore'...
then i am at the 'restore disk to a single volume' with the status: partitioning disk spinning...
when i created the window partition i used 15G and i have the unibody macbook with 250G. however, this window's been spinning for the past two hours. i really don't think this should take this long. is this normal?
i do not want to re-install 10.5.5 and do a restore. what is the best way to delete the window partition? i suspect something is wrong with boot camp. what should i do?

Grub & error trying to boot other linux partition

My 40 gig hard drive is partitioned like this
hda1 = Arch Linux partition (XFS file system, Grub installed to MBR)
hda5 = swap partition for Arch
hda6 = Vector Linux partiton (Reiser file system, LILO installed to superblock)
hda7 = swap partition for Vector

The problem is I can't get Vector to boot. The "Uncompressing Linux" message is follwed by all the usual messages and then at the end thses lines pop up.
VFS: cannot open root device "discs/disc0/part6" or 00:00
please append a correct "root=" boot option
Kernel panic:VFS: unable to mount fs on 00:00
I have tried changing the grub parameters to try .../part7 and ....part5 but part7 should be the swap so that won't work naturally.
Both had1 and hda6 are set as bootable btw.
Can I get some insight as to what I am doing wrong???

FYI, In the grub entry for Vector you used the devfs (Arch) style (/dev/discs/disc0/partx) to define the root partition instead of the older dev system (/dev/hdax) that Vector expected. Besides that there was nothing wrong with your grub entries.

Removing a corrupt partition that Solaris 8 Install will not do

What utility or software will remove a corrupt partition of a previous Solaris install.

I also had that exact same issue on a "HP Presario 2.2Ghz Celeron with 1Ghz ram".

It is past the partition creation point, and should be installing the software.
I installed a fresh hard drive in to do some playing, and it did not create any partition information even though it is past that point.
I think it may be a problem with the x86 installation program set. But I have no SPARC hardware in which to test.
I would love to evaluate sol10 if anybody can find a workaround.

TV on demand not working with FF on XP partition works fine with iexplorer or on Linux partition?

I have been use firefox on XP and Linux for years and I watch and listen to the BBC iplayer as well as four on demand, five on demand ect. a few days ago this just stopped working.
At first I thought it was the iplayer not working but tried looking at other site and they are not working. Youtube is fine though.
When I switched to my Linux partition it works fine then I tried iexplorer and the sites works fine.
I have explored at length for answers online and the only thing I have come up with is 'Npdsplay dll' plugin for FF but I appear to have the latest version.
Should I try one of the fix tools online I am always a bit dubious about these downloads?

There are a number of active threads concerning the latest Flash player plugin (11.3) and the latest Firefox (13). Not all users are experiencing the same issues, but things to check include the following:
- Conflict with Realplayer Browser Record plugin (to disable this, open Add-ons from the orange Firefox button or the classic Tools menu and look under the Extensions and Plugins categories)
- Conflict with Flash 11.3 Protected Mode (see [http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1018071?tstart=0 Adobe Forums: How do I disable Flash Player's protected mode for Firefox?])

I get an error message saying, "An error occurred while restoring the disk to a single partition." when I try to use Boot Camp Assistant to remove my Windows partition. Help?!
