Remove skype alias icon

After upgrading to 7.2, each time I login to skype, the original install icon appears on the desktop and can only be ejected after I quit Skype. It appears to be an alias.
If I try to trash the icon while logged in to Skype, an error message informs me "that the disk Skype couldn't be ejected because Skype is using it"
The app is installed in the Applications folder (as always). Why does this alias keep popping up?
I've trashed it from the Applications folder as well as from the desktop. Either way, it pops back up when I log in.
Thank you

Did you ever get an answer to this? I have just re-installed Skype onto my Mac (after not having used it for years) -- the icon is in the applications folder and on the desk top.  Any info appreciated!!!!  4 June 2015

How do I stop my MacBook removing all my icons from the desktop ?

    Hi Matt
After I create say a word document, file it on my desktop and then shut down my machine. The next time I open up the MacBook the file icon has been removed from the desktop. I can still retrieve the file in a folder labeled with the month I created it. But why has the OS removed it from the desktop and how can I stop it happening?
It happens to alias icons as well!

  • How to remove Skype from the taskbar

I want to fully remove Skype from my taskbar so that when i x out the Skype window it shuts the program down . Now i have to X out both the window and the icon in the taskbar to shut it down.
No biggie, but i just find it semi-annoying and unnecessary.

it is by design that when clicking the X on the window it will close it on the notification area.if you want to hide the window when pressing X go to tools > options > advanced > advanced settings > keep skype in the taskbar while i'm signed in.
remove the checkmark and now when pressing the X it will hide it in the notification area.
but if you want to exit it just right click it and select Quit

My MacBook Air 13' (2013) will occasionally start the fan at full blast, not connect to any wifi or detect any wifi, and will remove the battery icon from my menu bad as well as tell me there is no battery connected. How do I fix this? I have restarted my computer multiple times, **** it down, and ran a diagnostic test to tell me nothing is wrong and my computer is not running any applications. There is no reason for the fan to be on full blast! when I try to set the option to show my battery icon in the menu bar, it will automatically uncheck. How do I fix all of this?

  • How to remove the edit icon in interactive report?

    Hi All,
I am using the Customer Tracker 1.1 sample and I would like to remove the edit icon on the Customers list. (Instead I would like the Customer name to be the link itself).
However, nothing I do on the reports properties seems to have any effect on this icon!
I have even remove the A.ID column from the underlying SQL query but I still see the little pencil!
    Any ideas?
    Regards,
    Pawel.

    Sorry for the spam!
I just discovered the whole new section in the Interactive Report - Link Column - just needed to exlude the link.

  • My wife and I share our Mac OS 10.6.8 since downloading Skype on her account she can not stay connected to any web site she pulls up. I removed Skype from here account but it stll happens. What can I do to clear this up?

My wife and I share the same Mac OS 10.6.8 and since downloading Skype on her accout she came not asty connected to any web site for more than a few seconds. I have remove Skype from her account but not mine. I don't have the problem on my accout and I still have Skype loaded. How can I fix this problem?

O.k. Thanks for the clarification. I poked around in my TimeCapsule router's settings (TimeCapsule is an Apple Airport Extreme router with attached hard drive for wireless backup/storage). Unfortunately, it doesn't look like I can disable multicasting with the TimeCapsule. I can change the multicasting 'rate'. Settings are Low, Medium, High. It's currently set to Low.
I did a few web searches, and found an Apple.com article: <http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3789?viewlocale=en_US> which explained how to disable Bonjour Service Advertisements. I believe this is the same thing as 'Multicasting'. The process is a modification of "/System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist", and a restart of the Mac is required afterwards.
I'm a bit concerned that disabling multicasting will interfere with my AppleTVs and iTunes music sharing, but I may try it next time I'm up for a computer workout. This task will require editing of system preference files, could require multiple restarts, might interfere with my AppleTVs, could interfere with my iTunes file sharing, doesn't have a documented relationship to my problem.
This is way to difficult for something that should just work. Did you say you had read something about a relationship between this bonjour multicasting and smb connectivity? If it was online could you post the link?
I'm currently able to connect to the drive using NFS, but I have to manually configure that connection each time I reboot (can't get the 'Disk Utility' configured to do it automatically). While it's working with NFS, it's not my preferred connect method (for various reasons).

  • How do I remove an alias from my Apple ID?

How do I remove an old [email protected] alias from my Apple ID when there is no Delete button? Further, I can create new alias and delete them again because new alias come with a Delete button, but how can I remove the old alias? Any suggestions?

Thanks Old Toad, but I try to remove the alias online from iCloud - from the screen dump you send show. I can add new alias and remove them as well. Maybe I got it all wrong?
The problem is, my primary email address is 100% correct, but where it say "Email address" on your screen dump, I have an faulty email address which cannot be removed? The faulty email address come from a person who try to log into and create a new Apple ID on my iPad 6 months ago. The person did not have access to my password but my Apple ID (my email address) was of course available in the iPad. I cannot understand how someone can add himself as "alias" in my Apple ID without access to my password? But this is how his email ended up on my Apple ID and I cannot remove it...

  • How Can I Remove the Finder Icon From the Dock?

Hi! Can someone tell me how to remove the Finder icon from the dock? I don't even care if Finder quits. I just want it removed from the dock. I really don't care if I can't get to my files. Please help.

Start by going to your core services, (/system/library/coreservices). You can do this by pressing Shift+Cmd+G and then paste (/system/library/coreservices), without parentheses.
After doing this, find Dock.app, right click, show package contents. This doesn't contain the icons on your dock, just finder and trash.
After that, move all finder services to the desktop, and then erase them from the core services folder. At this point it will prompt you to put in your password, do so.
Next you'll want to open terminal and type 'killall dock' or, you could restart your computer.
This should remove the finder icon from your dock, while still giving you access to it from your desktop.
    Hope this helps!

  • Skype download icon won't go away?

Last night I downloaded Skype on my MacBook Air that I bought a few weeks ago.
I downloaded it from Skype.com, and everything seemed normal. I can now call and talk to friends and family on Skype from my laptop. However, once Skype downloaded, an icon that looks very similar to a USB icon (except blue with the Skype logo) appeared on my desktop. I tried to eject it like a normal USB, and it worked, but the next time I opened up Skype, the icon appeared again. If I try to eject the icon while I am using Skype, a thing comes up saying that it can't be ejected because Skype is in use. I have talked to my other friends who also have a MacBook air an they didn't have this problem. It's just really annoying having this weird blue icon on my desktop, and I'm not sure why its there. Please let me know if you know how to fix this problem.

Is this the icon you're describing?
If so it sounds as though you downloaded Skype but didn't install it in your Applications folder.
To install it in Applications, first quit Skype.
Then, open the Skype "volume" icon pictured above and drag the Skype app icon in the direction of the arrow, as the graphic below shows:
You may be asked to authenticate with your login ID and password because that action is about to modify the contents of your Applications folder. If you are certain you downloaded Skype directly from Skype's website (http://www.skype.com/en/), then you're OK.
The only reason for mentioning this is that you should always know the reasons your credentials are being requested. It's your last defense against installing some junk you may not want.
Never supply your password in response to a popup window requesting it, unless you know what it is and the reason your credentials are required.
After Skype is copied to Applications, you can eject the icon on your desktop.
To launch Skype, open the Applications folder, or use Spotlight to find it. After it opens, drag the icon in the Dock (the row of icons along the bottom of your screen) to any other location in the Dock, where it will remain after quitting Skype.
