Remove stuck dvd

I have put in the wrong recovery dvd in my imac.
I cant get the dvd out and I have tried holding down "space" while booting.

None of the above helps.
I may clarify one thing. The disk that is stuck is a bootable mac os dvd.... I tried the wrong recovery disk and the system just restarts the installation that I can't complete since its the wrong f****ng dvd!

Boot with the option key down. You will see a window showing all the bootable systems. Select the OSX boot and hit return. Once you are booted into OSX, use the Startup Disk system preferences to change your default boot volume.

A stuck DVD should not prevent your Mac booting from its hard drive.
Turn your Macbook all the way off (hold the power button down until the power light turns off). Then try the following:
- Reboot the computer. Straight away, hold down the left button on the trackpad, or the left button on an attached USB mouse if you use one. Keep it held down and eventually, the disk should eject.
- Reboot the computer. Hold down the Option key until you see the boot panel on the screen. Choose your HD to boot from that disk. Once booted, is the DVD shown on the desktop / in the Finder? Try ejecting it there.
- If, once booted, you don't see the disk in the Finder, take a look at the disk slot. Can you see the middle of the DVD? Try pushing it in very gently.
If none of those help, you should take it to an Apple Store or authorized repair center for them to remove it.

Does drutil eject result in any noise?
If so, repeat it as often as necessary until you give up since there is no other way of removing the disc, short of disassembly.
If not, the mechanism is stuck or there is no communication to the optical drive, which will also require disassembly and possible replacement of the drive.

Just inserted a new DVD correctly into the slot on my model 37LX96 Regza DVD/TV combo and the screen went black. Nothing works and cannot remove the DVD. No manual release pinhole in this model and Toshiba offered no help without a $25 service charge. Called the local service number they gave me and it was disconnected. Hi, guys, I have had the exact same problem since the summer of 2010. Here's what I was able to find out.
Deleting upper/lower filters, running all those Fix Ya programs and other Microsoft crap is useless. This problem is most certainly has nothing to do with registry of any software on your computer. I took my HP 9620us to a couple of repair places and, they tried a lot of things and it appears that the root of this problem is a faulty motherboard connection. Of course, it costs about 400 bucks to fix it so I'm not sure I want to pay this kind of money.
Anyway, if somebody was able to fix it PLEASE post here to let us know. Again I am 99 per cent sure it's some piece of hardware in the motherboard.

The answer is simple - just re-install all these apps or games and the problem gets solved. But what about if you cannot remember where you downloaded them from? Read the following instruction carefully in order to be able to solve this problem in another way.
First of all, you will need a USB cable and a computer. Connect the phone to your computer and choose data transfer or mass memory as USB mode. It depends on which drive the apps are installed in. Then go to E or F:\Private\10003a3f\import\apps\ path. Here you may find some .rsc files and one folder. The files with the ending .rsc refer to sis(x) apps while the folder refers to java.
From now on, it is up to you what is going on next. If you want to remove a sis(x) app, then just delete the.rsc file which has the app's name. But if you want to remove a java app, then you have to experiment on it. Go into the folder and delete the files one by one making a backup each time, so that you can find out which file refers to the java app that you wish to remove. Then go to E or F:\Private\102033E6\MIDlets\ path. Here you will find the root folders for java apps. Open each one and delete all the .jar, .jad and uids files. That's all.
This procedure may take some time but once you finish you will feel better

Thanks for helping me to remove stuck disc from IMac slot (can't remember its proper name but it is a beautiful turquoise). However, it hasn't solved the other problem. On starting up I get the usual "DONG" sound and whirring and a bright screen which then becomes dead and grey and nothing happens. Could someone please give me a suggestion of keys to hold down etc., as I have no idea which are appropriate in my case. Luckily I just did a backup so all is not lost! am replying myself to say what else I have tried. I have inserted the software restore disc as a startup but it will not show hard disc so cannot restore software. I then inserted software install disc as startup but the same thing happened. So the machine is capable of working, it just won't open the hard disc. Hope someone can help me. Sheila Jones

I already maxed out on 2 500Gig seagate HDDs totalling 1Tb
so planning to install ~500Gb SSD drive by removing installed DVD drive ...is it feasible? which brand etc...
any inputs will be appreciated.

Not advised it will not work or fit correctly you need to have a adapter to make that fit and as the other poster said your speed will be slower. Also you can get laptop drives each that are 2tb in both bay without needing to take out the OD drive itself. Did you look into that before getting a SSD.
