Remove vector mask from fill layer Photoshop CC

I'm using Photoshop CC and I can't remove, disable or rasterize a vector mask that is applied to a fill or gradient layer.
Am I missing something?

One way to delete the vector mask is to hold down the Alt+Ctrl (Option+Cmd) keys and
drag down from the fill/gradient/pattern layer icon in the layers panel to the trash can at the bottom of the layers panel.
You can disable the "vector mask" by shift clicking on the Shape Path icon in the Properties panel.
One way to replicate rasterizing a vector mask is to Ctrl (Cmd) click on the shape layer icon in the layers panel, add a
layer mask and then delete the vector mask as described above.

  • How do I copy and paste vector art from one layer to another, keeping all of its attributes?

When I copy a vector shape from one layer to another, the shape picks up the color attributes of an existing shape in the second layer (or sometimes only the outline of the shape appears). What to I do to avoid this from happening (I just just want to paste the shape in its original form and color)?

OK - I guess this is a little more difficult than I imagined...
Merge Layers rasterizes all the vector shapes - I want all the shapes to stay as vectors in the second (pasted) layer.
Merge Shapes changes the color of the copied vector shape - I don't want to change the color
Shape Layer via Copy [Ctrl] +[J] copies the layer containing the vector shape, but doesn't paste it into the second layer
Any other ideas? Or, is it possible that PhotoShop doesn't support varied colored vector shapes on the same layer? I am coming from an InDesign background, and there was no issue having many different (colored) vector objects on the same layer.

  • Please help! How do I unlink a mask from a layer in Motion?

How do I "unlink" a mask from a layer so when the object on the layer moves, the mask stays still?
(Similar to how you unlink a mask in Photoshop by clicking on the link icon beside the layer thumbnail)ghgh
This is propably very simple, but I can´t figure this out or find it anywhere searching on the net or in the manual (already wasted almost two hours on this and my deadline is coming uncomfortably close...)
Hope somebody can help I´m getting desperate now

Would moving the mask to the Group containing the layer you want to animate give you the result you're looking for?
Your layers list would look like this:
If there are other layers in the group, then you would need to nest the masked group so as to not affect the other layers.
You could also add a shape and use that as an image mask which includes a stencil option.
    Draw your shape
Select the image you want to mask
Add Image Mask (shift+command+m) via the object menu
Drag your shape to the image mask
Your layer list would look like this:

    Pardon?
Or do you mean that, when you created a new document, you choose Web as intent maybe?

  • Adding vector mask as guide layer?

I have a template that uses a vector mask as one of the layers to line up images. What I need to do is have the vector mask serve as a guide layer so when I go to export it does not appear on export. Is this possible?

No its not. You can Action or script a deleting of your "Guide" layer before you export or Save the file. Probably your best option

The grid does not print. There has to be another source for the visible grid lines on your prints. Suggest that you do the following:
Make sure that your ink cartridges have plenty of ink
Do a deep cleaning of your print head
Align the cartridges as per instructions in the printer's manual
    Do a test print

  • Copy object with clipping mask from illustrator to photoshop

I want to copy objects from illustrator to use in photoshop, but the eps file that i am working in has a clipping mask and when i attempt to copy objects in that file from illustrator 6 to photoshop 6, portions (in some cases) all of the object turns black or gray.  I'm sure this is a simple noob error (hope my question is clear enough), and it's driving me nuts.  I have searched for solutions using terms "clipping mask, black, copy, move, illustrator, photoshop, etc." and can't find any discussions on this topic.  Can you please help?
Here are the print screens to show you what i get in ai and ps -
(see blue outlined oval object selected - opaque white gradient)
(when moved to ps, opaque whitish oval turns black)
I'm such a noob!  Thanks in advance for your help!

You simply lose the blending modes and transparency settings because this stuff works differently in both programs. You will have to reinstate it manually e.g. if the white highlight is created usuing Add blending mode, you will ghave to use the same in PS...

  • PSE2.0.2, Copy adj. layer mask from 1 layer to another

I just recently started using adjustment layers. I created a mask in levels adj. layer. I want to copy that mask to a new Bri&Contrast adj. layer.
    PSE 2.0.2 on Windows XP.
    Thanks for your help

You can also create your B&C layer directly above the levels layer and go to layer>group with previous. Then any change to the levels mask will appear in the B&C layer as well. This only works if the layers can stay adjacent to each other, though.

  • Photoshop CC - Why does pasting a path always create a vector mask?

Used to be you could just paste a path and path it would be. Now however, under CC and CC 2014, it always seems to create a vector mask on whichever layer I'm on when I paste and select Path.
Is there some way I could stop it from doing this? I have to go to Paths, duplicate the vector mask to become a work path, then delete the vector mask. 2 unnecessary steps I don't really need when I specify Path, not Smart Object, Pixels or Shape Layer.

Crashing and not responding are very different behaviors.
What version of Photoshop CC are you using? Have you installed the updates to 14.2.1.?
What OS version are you using?  Have you installed all the updates?
Are you running any third party plugins? Have you tried disabling them?

  • How do you apply a vector mask to a folder in Photoshop CS6?

The ways you apply vector masks in CS6 is different than in CS5.
I knew how to apply a vector mask to a folder of layers in CS5.
I cannot figure out how to do it in CS6.
    So my question is:
How do you apply a vector mask to a folder in Photoshop CS6?
And while we're at it, what are the best methods for applying vector masks to regular layers?
    Thanks.

Yes and that's why I wrote the words "vector tool" and never mentioned a pen. (Although the instructions would be exactly the same for using the Pen Tool because the Pen Tool is a vector tool.)
which I then want to turn into a layer group mask.
And yes, this does not work the same way as it did in CS5.
    I wish it did. : |
Adding a vector mask to a layer or group is exactly the same in CS5.1 and CS6 on my Mac. Maybe that's done differently in CS5 than in CS5.1, but it seems unlikely.
You have the layer or group targeted. Now draw a rectangular path after making sure the Rectangle Tool is in Path mode, and not Shape mode and not Pixel mode. Then Cmd/Ctrl-click the Add Mask button at bottom of Layers panel.

  • Layer Mask and Vector Mask on the same layer

    Hello guys,
maybe this is a stupid question, but i am having trouble understanding this one...
If you make a selection on a layer and click the mask button, you create a mask...
But if you hit the mask button one more time, Photoshop puts a vector mask on that layer,
    right beside the layer mask.
To be honest I haven't been able to do much with that vector mask, i experimented with it, but i just
can't figure out, how it interacts with the layer mask next to it (if it interacts that is).
Can someone help me understand please?
What's the usability of having a vector mask next to a layer mask on the same layer?
An explanation with a paradigm would be nice!
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
They both will mask the image. One will be pixel based, the other editable vector. Here is and example of round soft mask on Mona combined with a hard edged vector mask (on top of a still life by Frida!)
How you can use this is up to you.

  • What is the purpose of the chain (lock symbol) between a solid color layer and its vector mask?

What is the purpose of the chain (lock symbol) between a solid color layer and its vector mask in the layer panel when creating shape layers with a shape tool? I'm just curious when locking or unlocking the solid color layer and its vector mask can make a difference.

I don't understand what you said and your shape layer looks different then mine using CS5.
When the chain is deselected, I can't do anything with the move tool on the shape layer. This is the only difference I can find. Making the solid color uniform or not doesn't change anything.
Your example shows that you moved the position of the solid color, how did you do that? I can create a solid color layer and change its uniform look by applying an effect like gradient but I can't move the solid color itself around. How is this possible?

  • Change path inside and outside areas in vector mask

    Hey all PS/CS lovers,
That's probably an easy one, yet, being rather new to this, I have to ask.
So I have this vector mask on a layer, and while singing along to the Beatles I'm editing paths on it. Well, all it is is a rectangle to reframe a photo, nothing crazy. But that rectangle is too big to my taste - so I just draw another, smaller one inside it and plan on deleting the first one.
But ! The second, smaller rectangle is viewed as a takeout from the first one (so its inside is considered "black" mask-wise, i.e. cut out, and its outside is "white", i.e. kept in). Thus, when deleting the first, bigger one, the entirety of the picture appears, except for the part I want in the middle, that's cut out ! Yes - that's the opposite of what I want.
Now, I tried using the path selection tool and changing the fill color of the rectangle, but you can't ... So, how do you invert inside and outside of a closed path ? Thanks in advance !
    Charles

So, how do you invert inside and outside of a closed path ?
Select the Path with the Path Selection Tool and in the Options Bar change the Path Operations setting.

  • Sharing a vector mask that shapes effects

I want to have multiple effects on a shape defined by a vector mask: two strokes--with different blend modes--and a bevel. Because I need different blend modes, I cannot use the trick of using a two-color gradient for the stroke. Because of the order in which effects are applied, I cannot use inner glow, stroke, and bevel. (I can't get the inner glow to apply correctly.)
I can get the result I want by duplicating my shape layer and applying different effects to each layer, using 0% fill. However, changes to the shape of the vector mask on one layer must then be propagated to the other layers. (Tip: this isn't as bad as it sounds if you alt-drag the vector mask from one to another, replacing the destination with the updated shape.)
I could almost get the result I want by putting the vector mask on a group for multiple layers, except that the opacity of the group doesn't shape the layers within it.
Is there any way you can think of to use a single vector mask that shapes the effects for multiple layers?

Kind of hard to recreate the unseen, but maybe this example will help.
Right clicking on the elayer effect will give you the option to create layers. This will put the effects onto their own layer. Duplicating the stroke layer and changing the blending mode should then be possible like the attached image.

  • Can't paste from InDesign to Photoshop

I'm trying to paste a vector element from InDesign into Photoshop. Until today this has always worked with my element showing up in Photoshop as a smart graphic. Now, all of a sudden, the paste option is Photoshop is grayed out after I copy from InDesign.
    CS4, iMac, OS 10.5.8

No go. The fact that PS crashes on every single quit likely doesn't help.
Most of the crashes on quit are due to buggy third party plugins, though a few have been due to bugs in scanner or printer drivers.  Removing the defective plugin or driver solves the problem.
We have some other crashes on quit that crash deep in MacOS code -- and Apple is still investigating.
