Remove water marks from sepia photo

I have Elements 7.
I wonder if anyone can direct me to the best way of dealing with a large sepia photo. About 25% of the photo has been spoiled by being in a damp area and under glass. This has turned large areas of the photo from shades of brown to mottled grey over the original brown tones. I have been trying for some while to find the best way of improving this with the healing brush and cloning but because some parts of the photo are significantly spoilt, it is difficult and inticate work. I don't mind that at all but I would hate to think that there was a quicker and easier way?
I'd be grateful for any advice
Thank you

That's a tough one. I tried various things to remove the stain but no decent results. Might I offer this alternative:
1. Copied the Background layer.
2. I thought color was a bit too olive in tone so I converted to sepia for an antique look. To do this I made a Hue/Saturation change. In the H/S dialog window checked the Colorize box, set Hue to 30 and Saturation to 25.
3. Made a Brightness/Contrast change to increase the Brightness a bit.
4. Created a portrait-like background to cover some of the stains around the subject. To do this, set the Foreground/Background colors to light and medium shades of brown, added a blank layer at the top, and applied the Render > Clouds filter. Then applied a Gaussian Blur to soften the cloud effect a bit.
5. Added a layer mask to the cloud layer and painted with black & white to create background around the subject.
6. Did some cloning to fill out the knee and arm.
7. Painted with brown over some of the stain still showing next to the arm.
8. Linked the background and subject layers.
9.  With the Elliptical Marquee, drew out an oval centering the subject, inverted and deleted the selection.. This created the oval on transparent background.
10. Since the 2 layers are linked I used the Move tool to center the portrait/background on the canvas.
11. Added a Solid Color adjustment later and set to brown for the "matte".

  • I am trying to remove an object from a photo such as the back of a person's head.  How do I do this?  I have iphoto '09.

I am new to iphoto and am trying to figure out how to remove an object from a photo (ie the back of a person's head, or an arm in a photo that seems to belong to no one).  I have iphoto '09.

You need an external editor for that kind of work.
In order of price here are some suggestions:
    Seashore (free)
    Graphic Coverter ($45 approx)
    Acorn ($50 approx)
    Photoshop Elements ($75 approx)
There are many, many other options. Search on MacUpdate.
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.

  • How do you remove a person from a photo and replace her with another person

How do you remove a person from a photo and repalce her with another person.

There are many tool and "tricks" to accomplish this manipulation. However, depending on the image one technique might be more appropriate than an other. And then there is the question of how to do it "skillfully". For example, the shadows in the person that is being substituted might be different than in the original image creating the obviously "photoshopped" look.
Doing an Internet search on your posting title brings up lots of examples.

  • How to remove quotations marks  from csv file

    Hi
My input file is a .csv file which contains each value in quotation marks
    ex: - "123456778","jakob","grade10"
Also each record in the input file contains 333 values .
i am reading these records and using stringtokenizer to fetch value by value for that record .
i want to remove the quotation marks before i put the values back into an output file with .txt extension .
those output files will be bcped later into sybase db.
Should the quotation marks be removed in the java code or is their anyother way to remove the quotation marks from the output file while bcping them .
    Thank You

I also suggest if possible, you use tab delimited cvs files rather than comma delimited cvs files. That would be TSV, LOL...
If there are commas inside your data elements, you will not be able to tell if they are part of the data or are delimiters. Tab delimited files avoid this. What if your data contain tabs? Although there's no CSV specification, the common standard practice is to use two double quotes to escape a quote.

  • I want to purchase Apature, but In the advertising blurb I dont see how to remove unwanted objects from a photo. I know it can be done in Adobe Elements, but I would rather Apature.

I want to purchase Apature, but in the advertising blurb I dont see hoe to remove unwanted oblectsfrom a photo. I know it can be done in Adobe but I would rather have Apature.

    What DiploStrat said.
To expand a little bit:  Aperture allows you to assign a graphics program (such as PSE) as an "external editor".  In general, you use Aperture to organize your photos, to develop them (make them as good as possible for each use), and to publish them (create share-able files).  Your external editor is used when you want to create a new graphics file, which is what happens in all "destructive pixel editing".
Aperture provides tools to remove sensor spots from skies (and like operations), but for removing people and billboards you'll want a proper compositor, a/k/a a graphics program.

  • How do I remove aberation/halo from composited photos.

I want to replace the sky in one photo with the sky from another photo.
In Bridge I selected the photos and  load the photos into Photoshop layers.  This is Photoshop CC 2014 64-bit.  When they arrive in Photoshop, neither photo has any type of halo or aberration along its skyline.
In Photoshop I create a mask in the upper photo using the Magic Wand.  I create a layer mask reveal all and fill the selection with black.    Then a thin white halo appears on the edge of the selection at 100%.  .
If I disable the mask, the halo disappears; enabling the mask causes the halo to reappear.
I have tried everything I can think of using Refine Edge.   Nothing removes this halo.
I appreciate any comments or suggestions.

If you're trying to replace a completely blown out sky with a pretty blue one, it's going to take a fair amount of artistry to make it look convincing.  Depending on how blown out the sky is there's going to be some amount of 'leak', where the highlights creep onto the skyline (skyline being anywhere the sky interfaces with the foreground/background, be it buildings, trees, hair, etc).  And the more detailed the skyline, such as in hair and tree leaves, the more difficult it'll be.
First, I'd recommend doing it in multiple layers.  Don't try to fix it in one step, it won't look good.  Several layers trying to mask in the new sky, adjust the highlights, etc.  Multiple layers of small changes is the secret to realistic compositing.
Second, I'd start with using Select Color Range, not the magic wand.
If it's a really detailed skyline, I'd use channels and "burn" to try to make a selection.  You can search tutorials on YouTube.  The idea is that you find the channel with the most contrast, then burn/dodge/curves for even more contrast, then make your selection.
Beyond that is where the 'art' comes in.  I'd probably add a hue adjustment layer, with colorize on, and try to color the blown out sky a light blue.  Then I'd invert my mask and try to lightly paint in some blue highlights around the halo area.  I'd probably even add a blank layer and literally paint in some blue - soft brush, very low opacity and fill - to even it out a bit.  Again, small steps.
I'd also consider lowering the opacity/saturation of the sky you're adding in.  Don't try to take it from a completely blown out sky to a perfectly blue one, it's just not going to work.  Lighten it up a bit.  And lighten it up more at the horizon.  Something people usually don't do when replacing skies, and it's always obvious.  The sky should be lighter at the horizon.
Finally, I'd get some more blue into the foreground/background.  If there was a blue sky then the rest of the photo would reflect this to some bit.  Your reflections are going to be all white because you have a white sky.  I'd start with a color balance layer to add a bit more blue and warmth.  But I'd also paint in some highlights:  Sample some colors from the sky, and on a blank layer I would paint in some blue onto the foreground/background.  Change your blending mode to something like soft light.  Then, in the layer properties there's two sliders for "Blend If".  On the lower one (for the underlying layer), hold down "Alt" and move the slider from the left towards the right.  You're changing where your blue modifications apply, and since they're not going to apply in the shadows as much as the reflected highlights, I'd move them out of the shadows.  Play around with it till it looks right.  Making your adjustments not apply equally to all parts of the photo will really help it look more realistic.

  • How can you remove a figure from one photo and put it in another?

I am trying to move a figure (dog) from one photo/pic to another.  Is this possible with elements?

Yes, you should not have any trouble.
In Editor, go to the expert tab.
Open picture B, the one you wish to select something from (the dog) to add to another picture.
Use one of the selection tools, e.g. selection brush, lasso tool, to select the object. You will see an outline ("marching ants") once the selection is complete
Go to Edit menu>copy to copy the selection to the clipboard
Open picture A, then go to Edit>paste
Use the move tool to position object from picture B.
In the layers palette you should see picture A as the background layer, and object B on a separate layer.

  • Remove geo-tag from iPhone photos when sending via Mail

I sometimes send companies/people photos I've taken with my iPhone. It is convenient to take them, and send them.
However, I've noticed that the geo-tag is not stripped from the photos when sent via Mail.app
Technically, one could figure out where I live with it — not comfortable with that. I like the feature for my collection in iPhoto, but nowhere else. Facebook strips it out (smartly).
Any suggestions apart from using 3rd party apps?

Thanks guys, but I know I can disable it for future pictures — but I want to keep it for most pictures, but also feel safe that when I'm sharing them, that this information is stripped out.
Any ideas apart from 3rd party apps?
    Maybe a feature request, no?

  • Remove crop marks from AI CS2 doc?

    Hi,
I resized my document from a 8.5 x 11 to a 11 x 14 and then scaled the business card on it up 280% to fit in the new document size in Adobe Illustrator CS2. Everything is working fine except that my existing crop marks for the business card stayed the same size as the business card 3.5 x 2 so how do I remove these? I don't need them anymore.
I will be having this printed so do I need to insert print marks or anything like that?
    Thanks in advance,

It worked! Thanks so much ScottW. I have no idea what it did but it worked. Thanks again!

  • Best method to subtly remove scuff marks from white floor in a pic?

I shot a model in a studio using a white backdrop. The backdrop under her feet is all scuffed up with marks. These marks are in a shadowed area, so I cannot just clone stamp clean areas from the background, since that is lighter and without shadow. Nor do I want to remove the shadow of the subject.
These scuff marks ruin the shot, so I am really hoping there's a solution to this.
My Photoshop skills are best described as advanced beginner.
    Thanks!

Clone Stamp Tool, Healing Brush Tool, maybe also the Brush Tool (on a Layer with a noise Pattern Overlay to match the noise/"grain" of the image), … and as much time as it takes.
You could also try Content Aware Fill etc.
If you want to discuss editing approaches to a particular image not posting (the relevant section of) said image may make the discussion difficult.

  • ? Remove Smart Tags from Multiple photos in PSE 8

I need to remove the Smart Tags assigned to about 1,000 photos without removing the other tags (People, Places, etc) assigned to the photos (each photo has 2-3 tags). Is there a way to do this as a group or batch? I can't believe that PSE would make you do this one-by-one. Thanks.

Hmm, I just tried it again and it removed all the Smart Tags from the selected photos.  Most likely, you left-clicked at some point, causing the selection to move to just the photo being clicked.  So try exactly this:
    1. Edit > Select All.
    2. Right-click one of the selected thumbnails.
    3. Choose Remove Keyword Tag.

  • Removing an object from a photo in PSE 10

I have a photo where there is a bucket sitting on the sidewalk.  I cant seem to get rid of the bucket in this picture.  I have looked for a tutorial but theyare either from a different version of PSE or they are for taking an object out of one picture and inserting in another, which is not what I want to do!
Can someone please help me? (see photo below)

First I added a Levels adjustment layer to temporarily lighten the picture so I could see what I was doing.
Here I indicate the 3 distinct sections of the sidewalk.
Used the Rectangular Marquee tool to select this portion of the red section.
Copied/pasted the selection to a new layer and used the Move tool to reposition it over the bucket.
Further resized the repositioned to get this result:
Did the same for the yellow and blue portions (new layer for each).
Went back into the adjustment layer and darkened the picture. I thought it looked better a bit lighter than the original. Here I show the various layers.
If you want I can post the final version for you to download.
