Removed bootcamp and partitioned, but stil detected as windows drive??

Hi, installed boocamp a few weeks ago on my external harddrive/macbook. I named the bootcamp partitioned drive Windows.
Today, i decided to reformat my computer. So, first i removed bootcamp using boocamp utility. Then I partitioned the drive to mac journaled extended and named it HD2. After that i did a factory reset of my mac and reinstalled mountain lion.
Upon logging in, everything seemed fine. The drive was partitioned correctly for storage on macosx, and still named HD2.
However, when i loaded the drive menu by restarting my computer and holding option. it still showed the drive as Windows!! when i clicked the drive, it even attempted to load windows, but of course never even got started and went straight to a blank screen because windows is not on there.
WHAT is going on. the drive isnt even named windows anymore. I removed bootcamp entirely and reformatted the drive. How can it be that the boot menu still lists it as Windows but when logging in, its listed as HD2?
I hoenstly think its a glitch with bootcamp. it doesnt exactly afftect anything really, because i can still use it for storage. But im OCD and it bothers me that its incorrectly listed in the bootmenu.
Can someone explain to me whats wrong and how i can fix this?

You might want to post on the Boot Camp community to get a better response.

  • Removing bootcamp and partition

There is only one application I needed windows for. But after multiple headaches, I gave up and bought an inexpensive laptop. How do I safely removed the windows partition and give that space back to my mac?
    Thanks.

Thanks for the update. I just got my iMac and plan on using Boot Camp. There are a couple M$ apps I use and until I find adequate replacements, I'm easing into the Mac world.
With that in mind, I anticipate that eventually I will be completely Mac. When that day comes, I'll want to remove the XP partition. I hesitate doing anything until I know there is an "undo" or a safe "reset."

  • I'm trying to install bootcamp and XP, but when keyboard does't work. How can I eject the disc?

How can I eject the disc and start over and get into the OSX system?

XP isn't supported in BootCamp, you'll have to use the free VirualBox or one of the other commercial virtual machine softwares to run it in a window on OS X. The performance isn't going to be good enough for 3D games or heavy CPU ones, but good enought for most general use software.
Apple doesn't supply the hybrid MBR and hardware drivers required to run XP in BootCamp any longer. If you were on Snow Leopard 10.6 it's still possible, but not Lion or Mountain Lion.
This is what you do to resolve your problem.
1: Hold the power button down to force a hardware shutdown (emergency use only use the Apple Menu > shutdown all other times)
2: Press and hold the option/alt key on the keyboard.
3: Boot the computer and enter Startup Manager
4: Keep pressing the eject key on the keyboard, the disk will eject.
5: Select OS X to boot from by clicking on the volume and the little arrow that appears.
6: Set Startup Disk in System Preferences  to OS X.
7: Head to BootCamp Utility and use it to remove the BootCamp partition.
8: If you used Disk Utility, then use that to remove the second partition and absorb the remaining space back into the OS X partition.
9: Install VirtualBox, if on 10.8 you migh have to control/right click and "Open" to bypass Gatekeeper controls for the installer and/or program at least once.
10: Read the instructions how to setup and use VirtualBox.

  • How do I remove Bootcamp and recover my disk space for my Mac OS X (Yosemite) usage?

I'm using MacBook Pro Retina (Mid 2014 version)
I've allocated 40GB for BootCamp, and 80GB left for my Mac OS X Yosemite for my initial configuration.
I need more space than ever now for my Mac OS and since I don't use my Windows 7 a lot, I thinking to remove my BootCamp partition and regain all the space.
Please advice what's the proper way for me to do that?

Back up your data, choose Utilities from the Finder's Go menu, and use the Boot Camp Assistant to return the drive to a single partition setup.

  • Remove 'wiki' and 'blog' but leave 'calendar'

Leopard Server 10.5.7: I'd like to have just a calendar available, not a blog or wiki. This does not seem possible. Workgroup Manager lets you deselect Wiki and Blog but leave Calendar selected for groups. When you do this and try to access via the web, you get the message that no group exists.
Another possible solution is to just delete 'wiki' and 'blog' from the top of each page. I've found that I can delete 'wiki', 'blog' and 'calendar' by deleting a section in default.xsl, but this has the side effect of also deleting the dates in the calender. I'm not stuck as to how to proceed. The text I was removing was in "class webapptoolbar" and was the three lines beginning with <xsl:for-each select="context/webAppToolbarLinks/item">
    Any suggestions?

    1. That will depend. I'm not sure since you are editing the default template sets. It is recommended that you create a custom theme so any changes you make will be isolated from an update.
    Look at this document: http://images.apple.com/server/macosx/docs/ExtendingYour_WikiServer.pdf
    2. Yes it is the list element with an id attribute of user_button, you could also use:
    .webapptoolbar #users_button {display:none;}
But the first one a gave you is more specific.
You can use the Firebug plugin for Firefox to check what styles are being applied to a given element.

  • I deleted my partition but can't install Windows 8.1 any more.

I've deleted my Windows partition in disk utility, but now every time  restart my MacBook Pro (2012, 13 Inch) without holding down the option key and  it says your PC needs to be repaired and the wininstall file is missing even though ive deleted my whole partition. When I do hold down the option key I can't go into windows because I've deleted it but I still see the EFI Boot partition. Now I want to install a better Windows version but I can't because when I enter the serial it says it can't verify it.
I have an older backup of my disk from before all this happened, so I've tried to erase my disk but every time I rebooted holding command and R, but every time I tried my mac shut down while loading the Apple sign.
    Please help!
    Raoul

    There are several possibilities.
    1. You do not have contiguous free disk space.
    2. BCA has failed, or you may have a Fusion drive which is causing problems.
    3. You have incorrect permissions on the disk.
    4. Can you boot in OS X Safe Mode - OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode? - Apple Support?

  • Recently installed windows 8 via bootcamp and mouse is freezing up on windows side, recently installed windows 8 via bootcamp and mouse is freezing up on windows side

I recently installed windows 8 via bootcamp and mouse pad is freezing up on the windows side. Are there any fixes out there for it.

If it is really not possible, I get it. But there are plenty of people that are running Windows 8 on the same model, that is powerfull enough to run Win 8. I'm actually running it, but until shut down or restart . Can't I edit Info.plst file alternative for Windows 8 like I did to allow BootCamp to image burn my USB on my model? I mean my model is same as the next one. I can't see why the drivers for mid 2010, won''t work on mine...

  • How Do I Remove Bootcamp and The Entire Windows Partition?

I have Windows running on my iMac with a partition. I want to remove it in its entirety to take the machine back to a 100% mac platform. Any thoughts?

    Easily done!
Run BootCamp Assistant.app and restore to a single partition.
As with all these kinds of operations, if you do not have a complete backup of Leopard, you should not do this, or if you do without a backup and "stuff" happens, just remember my post here.

  • Problem installing then removing Bootcamp and Windows XP on a MacBook Pro

    Hello
I've tried to install Windows XP on a bootcamp partition of a machine running Snow Leopard 10.6.8. I've made a FAT32 partition of 32 Gb with Bootcamp utility ( I've tried NTFS partition too ), I run the first part of the install of Windows which runs fine. When the computer reboot for the second part of the install, it stops with a disk error.
After several tries, I've decided to removed the Windows partition. I've used the bootcamp utility for that.  The partition is gone, but the computer still try to boot on Windows with, obviously, a disk error, and I have to press Alt to see the System partition and boot under Mac OS. Doing that confirm me that the Windows partition is gone, since I only see the system disk. Any idea to solve this problem ?
    Thank you

Select the Mac OS X system in the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences.

  • IPod touch AND iPod classic not detected by Windows 7 or iTunes, but both are charging fine via USB.

I already tried uninstalling and reinstalling all the Apple software on my computer but that didn't help whatsoever.  Both devices are fully charged, and I have tried different cables and USB ports, but to no avail.  When I check for the driver software in my Device Manager (in various categories, but most importantly, the Universal Serial Bus controllers), it doesn't appear, so I figure that might be the basis of the problem.  Is there somewhere that I can download the driver since it's not automatically installing when I plug in the iPods?

Do the USB ports work for for other devices?

I've tried it on many sites but always the same result, a new page but no detail. The header details says "search bookmarks and history". Very strange

Do you have that problem when running in the Firefox SafeMode? <br />

  • HFS+ partitions not being detected on Windows 7

    Hello Apple Discussions community,
I recently bought a Mid 2014 Retina Macbook Pro, and installed Windows 7 on it using Bootcamp, I installed the appropriate Bootcamp drivers including the one responsible for HFS+ support (verified that they were installed correctly by looking at the /Windows/System32/drivers directory), and all updates available for Windows, but the Mac OS X HFS+ partition doesn't show up in Windows Explorer as it would on my older MacBook Pro late 2011, is there anything I may have missed to get HFS+ partitions to show up?
Any help would be very much appreciated.
    Thank you in advance.

  • USB has power, but not detecting any USB drive. Also crazy trackpad.

I own a 2012 Macbook Pro, and I am running OS X Version 10.9.4 on it. Everything was working fine until last week, when the USB ports stopped working. Now, the USB ports still have power because the lights in my USB drive and external hard disk turn on when I insert them into the system. However, the OS X is not able to detect any of these devices as well as my USB mouse. I have Windows 7 installed on bootcamp, but there is no USB response in Windows 7 as well.
I have done the SMC and PRAM reset, as suggested on numerous other discussions, but there were no improvements.
To add to all this, the trackpad on my macbook started going berserk. The pointer has started to randomly click and drag, while I am not even touching the trackpad. It is extremely hard to move cursor to a particular folder, because the cursor will click and drag a lot of times, while it has reached its destination. Also, the trackpad acts insensitive in certain regions. I tried cleaning the trackpad (as suggested on other discussions), but the problem goes away only temporarily. It seems, after using it for a couple of hours, the problem is back again.
With USB and trackpad not responding, it is getting hard to pass the first week of school. I took it to IT department at my school, they checked it for a couple of minutes, and told me that I'll have to shell out $280 for sending it to Apple Depot. I'll really appreciate any kinda help!
    Thanks for your time!

    Hi @Ak7
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you are having trouble with your USB ports not recognizing most devices. I am happy to assist with this.
Since it just recently started to happen, I would normally recommend starting with a system restore to a point before the problem began. (say about a week ago or longer if possible) Unfortunately you have already done a reinstall, so there should not be any useful restore points to use.
Presumably you already backed up any data you could before reinstalling windows, and if so, then you could try a system recovery, which would restore the factory image of the notebook. Give it a try and let me know if it makes any difference.
