Removing a network alias

At the time I added my MacBook Pro to the LAN, I managed to set up two Network aliases. One is a standard one that permits file sharing. Unintentionally I also established a SMB/CIFS File System Authentication (SAMBA, I believe and useful with PCs). This gets in the way of the filesharing.
I want to remove the SAMBA alias, but I get a dialogue indicating that the alias "cannot be opened, because the original cannot be found." I am offered the choices of deleting or fixing the alias. I would like to delete it, but I am informed I don't have sufficient privileges. Am logged in as administrator, so I'm unsure of what I need to do to get rid of the alias.
Any help would be appreciated.

BDAqua, I noticed you suggesting the use of Xupport to force delete stuff in a few threads. Are you absolutely sure that it will not cause a problem? Without an explanation as to how it would work or indication that you are addressing the core problem of networking, I'm not sure I would dare to delete something the system tells me I can't.
What if it causes a bigger problem than what the poster had in the first place? I wouldn't want that to happen to me as I have a similar problem. Any reports?

  • I want to remove the network announcement, but it is no longer available in the last version

    Hi,
After updating to the latest version of the airport software, i cannot remove the network announcement that i added in the previous version.
How can i get rid of this?
    Cheers,

Your post does not mention whether you "updated" to the Lion operating system, but we will guess that this might be the case.
If yes, you should download and install AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion , which provides full functionality.
You can keep both AirPort Utility 5.6 and 6.0 on your Mac and use the one that you wish.

  • Accidentally removed my Network icon in my finder

I accidentally removed my Network icon from the finder panel. Anyway I can't get it back now and when I Apple K, I can't locate anything on the network anyway the only way to do this was to use the network icon when it was in the left area on the panel.
    any ideas please?

I think this works in 10.4 (but not in 10.5)
Click on the Desktop then top left Finder/Preferences
Check the 'Computer' item at the top then close the Preferences and open a new Finder window
Your computer 'name' should then be at the top of the left sidebar
Click on it and you should then see your hard drive and 'Network'
Drag 'Network' to the left sidebar

  • Broken network alias/Weird netstat results

After working fine for months, all of a sudden I can't connect to one particular system I have on my home network (it is a network attached storage device). The problem is only from one machine (I have 2 other Macs and they work fine). I also have other systems (including another identical storage device) that all still work fine. My network alias links for this device complain that they are broken. I can't connect regardless of the protocol I use -- SMB, FTP or HTTP. I can't even ping it as I get "no route to host".
I changed the IP address of the system to see if I could get around it that way -- no good. I checked the network tables (netstat -rn) and found that there are some curious entries for that device both before/after I changed its IP address:
    192.168.1.10 127.0.0.1 UHS 0 0 lo0
    192.168.1.15 link#4 UHLW 0 9 en0
These appear to be static routes stuck in the routing table that give erroneous routing information on how to travel to my storage device. Any idea how I get rid of these entries as, it seems, they are the key to solving the issues I'm seeing?

You can use the route command to manipulate your routing tables.
    sudo route delete 192.168.0.10
Or you can flush them all with route flush but you'd better be prepared to add the default gateway back (e.g. sudo route add default 192.168.0.1).
But that's more informational than anything, 'cause I don't think that will solve your problem. Something's advertising those routes and they'll probably show right back up. Maybe I'm wrong, give it a try.

  • Multilple TNS names files used in Connection Network Alias Dropdown

My network's TNS names directory has the latest tnsnames.ora file and also has several older versions named "tnsnames.ora.<date>". In SQL Developer Connections it appears all of them are read to create the Network Alias dropdown list. You can test this by making a copy of your tnsnames.ors file called tnsnames.ora.old1, etc. My guess is that SQL Developer is reading "tnsnames.ora*", not "tnsname.ora".
But I'm just a user, not a DBA admin. Is this a feature or a bug?
Its also possible that keeping the renamed old versions in the TNS names folder instead of a subfolder is just bad form and I need to get that behavior changed internally.
I'm running 1.5.4.59.40. I just installed patch 2 and the behavior is the same.

It's a feature. I think I remember some guys asking for support for this because some setups use various tnsnames.* files, but eventually a lot more users are complaining about this. Sqldev 2.0 will probably have changes in this area, so let's hope we will finally be able to choose our location manually...

  • Remove internal network . TMG 2010 SP2

    Hello,
I used to have a TMG with three networks: Internal, Perimeter, External.
Now, due to a change in the design, I would like to remove the internal network, but I cannot.
I thought it was harmless if I just removed the NIC (vmware) , but I am having some issues and I think it is best practise to remove such network (the network card is removed)
    I can't figure this out.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
Would you please elaborate the issues that you have encountered?
According to your description, it seems that you have configured the network template as a 3-leg perimeter and now you want to change it to a back firewall template.
Personally, I don’t think it is appropriate to just remove the internal network adapter and network range.
It is possible to change the network design after the initial installation by
launching the Getting Started Wizard. However, I am not sure if it is possible to launch the Getting Started Wizard in the TMG Management console for you now. If not, in these scenario, maybe you need to reinstall TMG and
    reconfigure the network template.
    Best regards,
    Susie

  • No TNS Network Alias drop-down list

I do not have Oracle installed on my laptop. I was able to connect to a 9i database at my college without having to install Oracle. I did this with SD 1.0. I just deleted my last installation and installed SD 1.1. Now cannot connect. In reviewing popular discussion thread, I don't know what to do.
Can I run SD 1.1 with Oracle 9i?
I am running SD 1.1 on Windows XP SP2. I have Net80 installed on my laptop with tnsnames.ora in c:\orant\net80\admin folder. I set a system environment variable TNS_ADMIN with the above folder as the value. c:\orant\bin and c:\orant are both in my path. I am trying to connect to a remote 9i 9.2.0.7.0 and have been able to do this with SD 1.0.
What must I do to populate the TNS Network Alias drop-down list?

Well done, B. The Net*) client I have made the connection OK using the Basic panel.
Thanks for your advice. I guess I'd better learn about what's involved in connecting, because I didn't know how to use the Basic panel in the first place. I've just been cutting and pasting using the tnsnames.ora file to support the connection. Would you have a suggestion to learn about the process of connecting?

how do I remove a network from airport please?

What is it you are trying to do? Your Airport will recognize and list any WiFi signal within its range. If your preferred network list doesn't include the network you are trying to remove it will just ignore it. If it is on your list just highlight the network and click the " - " button.

    Hi

I think this should be just the directory
    TNS_ADMIN=C:\DevSuiteHome_1\NETWORK\ADMIN
Are the entries in that tnsnames correct? SQLDeveloper will stop parsing the file if it encounters a syntax error, even although other tools can still use it.
What error do you get when you try to connect with the basic tab?
Status : Failure - test failed Io exception: The network adapter could not establish the connection
This error usually means a fundamental network problem - wrong host name for instance, or a firewall blocking connections.
    >
I know that the infomation for the basic connection is correct, for it works at home (on diffrent PC) with the same settings.
Can you do telnet hostname 1521? If you can connect, you won't get a response, but you may get a more informative error?

  • When drop .ps file into Acrobat Distiller message looking for network alias folder. Why?

    Hi,
    Anyone can help on this.
My system is OSX 10.6.4 on a MacBook Pro.
I have some window network Alias folders placed on my Desktop, created and placed there from my other office workers for easy excess to their hard disk. Like pick-up files and dropping files off without using emailing.
My problem is why? when ever I drop a .ps file into the Acrobat Distiller for converting .ps into .pdf file, a similar message asking for all the Alias folders, one at a time, will appear one after another (See attached). The .pdf file will only be converted and appear when all the Alias messages are click "OK" away.
In the past, I have done the .pdf conversion as mentioned above, no popping messages.
What must I do so that this kind of message do not appear again.
Obviously, if I delete all the Alias folders, the messages will not appear but I would rather like to know if I am missing something.
    Help.
    Thanks
    Jack

It could be that Distiller thinks some fonts are on the server: Check your font settings. It could be a corrupt preference file. It could be a cache problem. You can empty your cache using Applejack or Onyx.

  • How to remove a network activity for one employee from the worklist?

    Hi,
We are using the SAP project system where project resources are assigned network activities. In the worklist in the ESS timesheet, the assigned network activities are displayed for the employee. The problem is when several employees are assigned for a network activity, and one of them no longer should register hours on this activity. How can you remove the assignment (using dates etc.) for only one person so that the network activity no longer is present in his worklist in the timesheet?
    Regards,
    Petter

Well for this pernr you need to have a special coding to check for network and pernr.
other would be a simple way using cats0003 to validate data an employee records here you can have a individual check
for this pernr that he doesnt record for this activity and throw an error when he does! this is simpler

  • Removing Logical Networks and Subnets from Hyper-V Host Network Adapters that are greyed out

    Hello All
I am new to SCVMM 2012 R2 and I have create a Hyper-V Cluster and now creating Logical Networks and Port Profiles and Logical Switches. I have figured out how to create all of them properly now, but I have made some mistakes in the past. I have a Logical
Switch created and assigned to network adapters on the hosts. Now I am trying to add the other switches to other adapters, but I have associations on network adapters to Logical Switches and Subnets that are not correct and need to be removed so I can add
the correct ones, but in the console the network adapters that I need to work with the information is grayed out and I can't change the information.
I am not an expert at Powershell. Below you can see a Logical Network and Sunets associated
to a Network adapter. Can someone help figure out how to remove the information so I can assign the correct Logical Network?
I woul so much appreciate this. I know there is a way to do this in
PowerShell but I don't know Powershell that much. I
    am savoing all the
powershell scripts ever time I configure something in SCVMM but I have had no luck trying to

This shows that an Uplink profile associated with this host, links to these logical networks. In order to remove this successfully, you must remove the logical switch and uplink deployed to the hosts.
For a complete overview and guidance on the required configuration, have a look at the whitepaper we created.

  • Connecting to Windows network--alias problems

I can see all the connected PCs and servers, but when I click on the icon, I enter my user name and password, and then get the message that the original Alias cannot be found. Any ideas how to get onnected?

No that is your external IP address.
You need to use the internal IP addresses as assigned by your router.
    On the PC
    Start -> Run -> cmd
    type
    ipconfig
This will display the PC's internal network IP address
    On the Mac
System Preferences > Network > "Network Interface you are using" > TCP/IP
