Removing a previous installed version of MySQL

When I try to install a production version of MySQL after previously installing a beta version the Installer balks with the comment "Can't install because a newer version exists'.
I have removed /usr/local/mysql...beta and the link to it and the MySQL in PreferencePanes.
Are there other mysql files that the OS recognizes that would stop the installation?

Try the Unix forum under OS X Technologies. BTW, in Snow Leopard, all receipts are stored in /var/db/receipts/ and all you'll find in /Library/Receipts/ is the InstallHistory.plist file. Anything else is a holdover from Leopard and can be safely deleted.

  • Need to reinstall Photoshop CS2 but it can't find a previously installed version so won't reinstall

Photoshop CS2 told me there was a "major problem" and that I would need to reinstall the software to continue using it.
So I used the installer CD, but it told me it could not install because there was already a copy installed, which would need to be removed.
So I removed the old version and tried to reinstall but now it tells me it needs a previously installed version in order to reinstall.
Adobe "customer service"chat  is 100% useless on this, referred me to the 800 #, been on hold for over 45 miinutes now, and no relevant topics found on "help" forums.
For a multibillion dollar monopoly, you'd think they could hire a couple of customer service reps but I guess it's all DIY "support" here, so can anyone help?

So, you are NOT trying to reinstall an upgrade, but a purchased version (not in an upgrade path from one version to the next)?
If that is correct, there should be no request for a "previously installed version." That only appears when one is installing an upgrade.
Are you installing from physical media (a DVD), or from a download?
Sorry, I do not have an answer for you.
    Good luck,

I updated to new ios and now it is not syncing properly.  New songs are not showing up on the ipod display but when I view the device on my computer, they are in the playlist but there is a dashed circle beside the missing songs.  It previously synced perfectly before the IOS update.  How can i revert back to the previous installed version?

Downgrading the iOS is not supported by Apple.

    No.

  • How do I remove my previous cs version?

Hi. I do want to buy the new CC Version and remove the CS5 version from my windows 7 laptop but I am just wondering what is the safe way to do this?
    Thanks,

Windows Control Panel and Add/Remove Programs link to uninstall CS5
While you still have CS5, you DO want to DE-activate in case you ever want to install again

  • How can I uninstall a previously installed version of Aperature from another owner?

    Hi,
I purcased my iMac from a previous owner.  His version of Aperature is still on it - registered under his AppleID.  I would like to uninstall it as it is preventing me from using my own version of iPhoto.  How can I do this?  Would it be asvisable to uninstall it and then purchase a new version of Aperature and then convert my iPhoto library to Aperature?  Right now, iPhoto wont launch becuase it wants me to upgrade Aperature, but I don't own a registered copy to my Apple ID, so I can't upgrade it.
    My setup is:
    iMac 27" 12,2
    3.4 GHz Intel Core i7
    32GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2048MB
    OS X 10.9.2 (13C64)
    Aperature 3.2.4
    iPhoto 9.5.1
    Thank you!

The previous owner of that machine should have wiped it and install the original OS that shipped with the system leaving the system at the point where the new owner takes over and enters all there own information.
Before you go much further with this machine you should seriously consider backing up any new stuff you have done and wiping it and starting from scratch. If you keep the system like it is you  will be plagued with problems. Even doing OS updates will prove frustrating.
Right now the best you can do is to move the Aperture that is on the system into the trash, log into the App Store using your ID and buying Aperture. That should work but to be honest I have never had to do it so can;t say for sure.
You might want to look at this What to do before selling or giving away your Mac from Apple to read what they recommend.
    good luck

  • How do i rollback Firefox 8 to my previously installed version of firefox?

I have upgraded from Mac OSX Firefox Version 3.6something to 8. I prefer my 3.6something. Is there a way to rollback the version?

I want to roll back to ver 7.0 until the time when/if two add-ons are updated to be compatible with 8.0. Ver 3.6 is much further back than i want to go. I seemed to remember there used to be a page at mozilla.org to download ''any'' previous version. But i couldn't find anything like that now. Still version 7.0.1 is available at http://www.top10download.com/mozilla-firefox-7

  • Auto removal of previous A/V

Hi, I'm on System Center 2012 and I'm testing Endpoint Protection.
I like the fact that SCEP is able to remove a previously installed A/V application but we still use the McAfee agent for encryption. The McAfee agent has many other purposes than a simple A/V so I'd like to exclude it from the auto-removal feature. I want
to keep this feature enabled because I still want it to remove Trend OfficeScan.
Is it possible to keep this feature but exclude a specific component from it?
    Thanks,

Thanks for the answer. It's disappointing though as, like I said, the McAfee agent is not an Anti-Malware product. It only places itself in between the McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator server and the McAfee product which the anti-virus is a part of but it is
not mandatory so you can have many other McAfee product there not acting as an anti-malware.
But I understand it is not possible this way so I'll go with the deployment route.
    Regards,
The policy for removing Anti-Malware will only remove some of real-time Anti-Malwares which are as follow:
Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition version 10
    Symantec Endpoint Protection version 11
Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition version 12
    McAfee VirusScan Enterprise version 8
    Trend Micro OfficeScan
Microsoft Forefront Codename Stirling Beta 2
Microsoft Forefront Codename Stirling Beta 3
    Microsoft Forefront Client Security v1
    Microsoft Security Essentials v1
    Microsoft Security Essentials 2010
    Microsoft Forefront Endpoint Protection 2010
    Microsoft Security Center Online v1
    Based on
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg682067.aspx#BKMK_EndpointProtectionDeviceSettings
From above list if you enable this policy it should remove McAfee VirusScan Enterprise version 8 and it won't remove other McAfee products. I suggest do a simple test by enabling the policy to automatically remove and test it in few PCs and if it did
not removed your product, you could use the default policy , otherwise use the policy to manually remove your Anti-Malware using System Center.

  • I Beta tested 4.0 RC1 and now can not upgrade to 4.0. Error message is need to reboot to complete prior instalation. Have removed all previous versions of Firefox, rebooted and still same error message.

I Beta tested up to and including 4.0 RC1 without major problems. However I can not now upgrade to 4.0. Same error message time and again, "need to reboot to complete prior upgrade instalation". I rebooted several times, then tried first removing all previous versions of Firefox using both MS Add/Remove and then iolo System Mechanic, then again downloading 4.0. Even after rebooting same error message. I can not therefore install/use Firefox.

    Do a clean (re-)install:
    * Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 4.0: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
    * Don't remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere (not in the Firefox program folder) and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • SmartView 11.1.2 install being overwritten by previous uninstalled version

I am not sure how to explain this but my SmartView 11.1.2 install is being overwritten by the previous uninstalled version (11.1.1.3).
On our Windows 2008 server 32bit with all SPs installed, we had 11.1.1.3 installed and we uninstalled it. We then removed the c:\hyperion directory. We rebooted and then installed smartview 11.1.2.0 which appears to go to the c:\oracle\product\smartiew directory.
When the first new user logs in and opens Excel, a small program starts to run and SmartView 11.1.2.0 gets configured and Excel shows an "Smart View" tab.
Everything is fine until a user who previously was using Smartview 11.1.1.3 launches Excel... When they launch Excel it starts an installer which recreates the c:\hyperion directory and installs 11.1.1.3 and then Excel opens with a "Hyperion" tab.
The new users that previously had never used 11.1.1.3 are are still in 11.1.2.0 until they close Excel. The next time they open it they no longer have the 11.1.2.0 SmartView Tab but instead have the 11.1.1.3 Hyperion Tab.
Has anyone ever seen this before and/or have any ideas on how to stop it?

Note: I redid my steps one more time. The 11.1.2.0 version installs by default to c:\oracle\smartview not c:\oracle\product\smartview.
Also, I searched the entire server for .msi & .exe files and may have found the culprit. After running the following & selecting uninstall it appears I may have 11.1.2.0 working for all users:
    c:\Windows\Installer\ab630db.msi dated 7/30/2010 3:59pm author: Oracle Size: 7.223KB.
Edited by: Mike W on Sep 7, 2010 4:42 AM to denote status...
Edited by: Mike W on Sep 8, 2010 8:48 AM This may be resolved as finding the ab630db.msi may have cleared it up.

  • This iPad cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes then install the 64-bit version of iTunes

I have seen others post this same question but the answers provided does not resolve my problem. My iPad Air is running iOS 7.1.2. I have been using this same computer for three years. It has Windows 7 home premium, service pack 1,  64-bit Operating System, Intel 3.4GHZ computer and 16.0 GB .  I used this same computer with my iPad2 for several years. I purchased an iPad Air a year ago. I never had a problem with either iPad using iTunes. About a week ago, my computer would no longer recognize the iPad Air. I thought it must be a driver problem or iTunes somehow became corrupted. I uninstalled all of the Apple products except for iCloud and deleted any Apple software left in my Program Files and Program Files (x86). I then downloaded from Apple, iTunes64Setup.exe which is a 110,833 KB program. I installed the program without a problem. It installed Bonjour, Apple Software Update, Apple Application Support and iTunes. These programs I had previously uninstalled. I then brought up iTunes.  I now plugged in my iPad Air and a popup message appeared "This iPad cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes then install the 64-bit version of iTunes". OK, I did as instructed. I used the iTunes installer to remove iTunes then ran iTunes64Setup.exe. I brought up iTunes and got the same message. "This iPad cannot be used because the required software is nt installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes then install the 64-bit version of iTunes"  In general, I have found the Apple software to be robust and reliable. This situation however is very disappointing. I am hoping that someone has an answer that I can use to resolve my problem.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it, which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
The section Install missing components has advice on breaking down the iTunes installer into the individual .msi files which might prove useful if one component, such as Apple Mobile Device Support, won't install normally.
In your case I suggest you start with a clean download of the setup file using the direct link. If reinstalling AMDS alone doesn't work try tearing everything down again.

  • I recently downloade Firefox v6.0 but had to remove it via the Control Panel Add/Remove Program. When I tried to re-install it I keep getting an error messsage that said that I had to reboot to fully remove the previous copy of v6.0.

I recently downloade Firefox v6.0 but had to remove it via the Control Panel>Add/Remove Program. When I downloaded v6.0 again and tried to re-install it I keep getting an error messsage that said that I had to reboot to fully remove the previous copyof v6.0. However when I did reboot I get the same error message. I'm sort of stuck in a loop and can't figure out how I can re-install v6.0. I am running Windows XP on a Dell Inspiron 9300 laptop.

    Please do the following.
Click '''Help '''| '''Check For Updates'''. The option to update should appear and version 3.6.17 should download and install.
However, sometimes things go pear-shaped and you get version 3.5.19. If that happens, repeat the same steps to update to 3.6.17.
Once you have 3.6.17 installed, you'll get the opportunity to update to the current version which is 4.0.1 ''Please don't do that for the moment because you first of all have to update your plugins''. To do the latter, please do the following.
Go to http://www.java.com/en/ and install the latest version of Java.
Update Adobe Shockwave for Director via http://get.adobe.com/shockwave/
    Update Adobe Flash via http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
    Update Adobe Reader via http://get.adobe.com/reader/?promoid=BUIGO
For security details regarding the Adobe updates, see: http://www.adobe.com/support/security/advisories/apsa11-02.html
Once you've updated all those, go to '''Help '''| '''Check For Updates '''again to update to version 4.0.1

  • Regarding removing all previous versions of the Mocrosoft Server Speech Platform Runtime

While I was trying to install Kinect SDK Ver. 1.8, I was asked to remove all previous versions of the Mocrosoft Server Speech Platform Runtime.
Regarding this, I tried to find the program but I couldn't.
I am working on Windows Vista.
Any comments and solutions would be appreciated.
    Thanks,

    Hi Park,
I agree with Martin, please ask Vista Forum for help so that you can get more professional suggestions. For your convenience:

However I would like to share some information for you.
Based on my research on Kinect SDK Ver. 1.8, the supported OS as below:
Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows Embedded Standard 7
Maybe this is the root reason that why cannot install Kinect SDK Ver. 1.8 on Vista.

  • Removing all previous versions of IronPort

I have been tasked with automating the install of IronPort . It has come to my attention that many different versions of IronPort are already installed (going back to version1.x). Can anyone confirm if the current 7.x installer will recognize those very early versions and uninstall them, or failing that, if there is any kind of removal tool that will?
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Hello Mike,
the answer can be found in the release notes for the plugin:
To install the Cisco IronPort Email Security Plug-in, you need to uninstall any previous versions of Cisco IronPort Email security plug-ins that you may have installed. This includes:
    •    Any previous version of the Cisco IronPort Email Security Plug-in •    Any previous version of the Reporting Plug-in (also called the Complaint
    Plug-in)
    •    Any previous version of the Encryption Plug-ins (Desktop Encyrpt or Desktop Flag)
BTW, last version before the current Cisco Plugin (version 7.x), was 1.8, this big jump in versioning is caused because we combined a number of different appliacation (spam, encryption) into a single plugin. Also it was always nessesary to remove the previous version of a plugin before installing a new one, so this is why you'd only find one installed instance on an user's PC.
    Hope that helps,
    Andreas
