Removing acrobat reader 8.1.1

When following "Manually remove Adobe Reader (8.x on windows)", under Remove Adobe 8.0 registered files using the command prompt, I get "access is denied" when attempting to delete those 2 files. I think those 2 programs are running, but they do not show up in Task manger, processes.
System is windows XP professional, dual boot with Vista as the second choice at start up

I have had the same issue since allowing Acrobat Reader to update over the weekend. I have attempted to uninstall the 8.1.1 version and reinstall and have the same error message occur. I am running Windows Vista Home Premium on 2 separate home computers and both computers now have the same issue.
When I attempted to uninstall and find an older version to reinstall from the Adobe website, I was unsuccessful. The only option is to install the newest version, which does not work.
Any assistance you can provide would be appreciated as I am now unable to read pdfs at all.

  • Can't remove Acrobat Reader 8 icon from Finder view

Several weeks ago I downloaded and installed Acrobat Reader 8, deleting version 7.
Since then, if I double-click on the Finder icon in the Dock I see an Acrobat icon there along with icons for my other folders. If I click on it, the program opens.
The icon doesn't appear on my Desktop.
How can I get rid of it?

Ah, I seem to have solved the problem: when I double-click on the TRASH icon in the Dock and drag the Adobe icon from the left column of folder icons into the Trash area I got a "poof" animation and the Adobe is gone at last!

  • Acrobat Professional 9 and Acrobat Reader 9: cannot update, remove, or re-install ...

After I have downloaded Acrobat Professional 9.0 updates and Acrobat Reader 9 updates, both update installations fail.
    Acrobat Reader 9 problems
I thought that there could be a conflict between Acrobat Reader 9, which I have also installed, and Acrobat Professional 9.0, so I tried to remove Acrobat Reader 9, but the patch package could not be found. I then ran the Windows Install Cleanup tool, but Acrobat Reader 9 is still on my system. I now cannot reinstall it, nor can I really remove it
I’d like to remove Acrobat Reader 9 entirely because I already have Acrobat Professional 9.0, but how?
    Acrobat Professional 9.0 problems
When I try to remove Acrobat Professional 9.0 in order to re-install it from disk, I get the message that the patch package could not be found. When I insert the disk to try to repair Acrobat Professional 9.0, I get the message that the patch package could not be opened. When I try to use the Repair Acrobat Installation option in the Help menu of the program, nothing happens.
I’m hesitant to run the Windows Install Cleanup tool on Acrobat Professional 9.0 because of the problems I got with Acrobat Reader 9 after running the Windows Install Cleanup tool.
How can I re-install Acrobat Professional 9.0 from disk?

    Amanda,
As Van says, yes you can have both seleced at the same time. I suspect there are other issues on your machine that are creating your problems. FWIW, I too have been running FM9 on a win7 64-bit platform with no issues.
The Roaming Profile is used typicaly with remote logins across a WAN (wide area network), however, application specific gets stored there - depending upon the application. Since you've seemed to have resolved the issue by deleting (or disabling the profile, i.e. the apps won't look there) the Roaming profile folder, it sounds like there might have been something corrupt or erroneous in the Acrobat data folders. When you installed your FM versions, did you deselect the accompanying PDFcreator option? If not and you had an existing Acrobat installation, then some items would have been overwritten, creating some issues for you.

  • Can not accept license after installing Acrobat Reader 8 and removing 6

    To whom it may concern,
after installing Acrobat Reader 8, removing Acrobat Reader 6, and starting Acrobat Reader 8 the license agreemnet window appeared as aspected. The problem is it displays everything as far as I can see correctly, but it is not working in any way. I have to close the windows by clicking on the white cross in the title bar. I then receive the message, that I did not accept the license and therefore Acrobat Reader will be closed. And that happens when I click ok.
Hopefully someone over here as a tip who I can proceed. Thanks in advance!
    Best regards,
    Jochen

    Dear Claudio and Shari,
Liam's suggestions have been of value for me. The Acrobat Reader is up and running.
    Thank's!
    @Shari
I'm using Firefox as well. An the tip and tool form Liam helped.
Just give it a try. The Explorer is used by Windows for more than a simple browser.

  • How do I open a pdf on a web page in Safari without Acrobat Reader?

At the moment I have removed Acrobat Reader 10.3.1 because it conflicts with Safari. Preview is a perfectly fine pdf reader (and with lots of very nice features) but I don't see how I can make Preview open a pdf from a web page until it has been downloaded to file. And I have found at least one site that will not download to file before opening.

Right-click in the PDF when it's displayed in Safari and select Open with Preview from the popup menu. Depending on how the PDF is embedded in the web page, this may not be possible.

  • There is a problem with Adobe Acrobat/Reader. If its running exit and try again (6:6)

    Hi,
I am getting the above error message when I try to view a PDF document from within a website.
If I navigate to the folder location where the PDF is stored and launch it from there it will open without any problems. If I go to other PCs and try to launch the same files from the same website then they will be OK. It just appears to be from this one PC.
    Abode Acrobat 9.1
    Internet Explorer 8
    Windows 7 (32bit)
I think the issue is that someone has tried to install Adobe Reader 10 on the same PC and it has failed and left something behind (am sure I read somewhere that Adobe Reader and Acrobat can't be on the same PC as it causes issues).
I've checked C:\Program Files\Adobe and removed all references to Reader. Done the same to the Registry. Could it have installed anything anywhere else? Is there a way to make sure a failed install has been removed completely?
    Thanks,
    Bruce

    Hi Bruce33,
You can use the Acrobat cleaner tool to remove Acrobat / Reade completely from the machine.
You can download the tool from : http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
Also make sure you update Acrobat 9 to the latest patch i.e. 9.5.5 and check.
    Regards,
    Rave

  • Upgrading Acrobat Reader

I feel its time to upgrade my Acrobat Reader. I'm getting messages that some of the content of my forms are unable to be viewed with the my present version and I think some documents are not opening at all. When I check in Control Panel's Add or Remove, I see several Adobe versions, Acrobat 5.0, Acrobat Reader 3.01, and Adobe Flash Player ActiveX. I have a dialup connection to the Internet, using Windows XP Home Edition SP2, version 2002, with Internet Explorer 6.0.
I want to install a free version of Acrobat Reader, (not too large as I'm using a dialup connection), that will allow me to view my documents. I don't need any more than the most basic version that will allow me to do this and am asking for advice here.
Should I uninstall all of the above versions of Adobe from "Add or Remove" first before installing a newer version or do I just install a newer version leaving them alone? Which version should I install? Please be complete in your response as I'm a relative newbie at this. Thank you.

It looks like you have two different products. Adobe Acrobat 5 which you'll want to keep (it's used to create PDF's rather than just strictly view them) and Adobe Acrobat Reader 3 (which is what you want to upgrade.
Go to http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html and choose the proper OS and it will give you the download options (Which I believe will be Reader 8). Keep in mind that the download could be in the range of 40MB so it's rather large for dial-up.
After downloading and before actually installing, go to Add/Remove programs and remove Acrobat Reader 3 then install whichever newer version you've downloaded.

  • Acrobat Reader X crashes

    Hello,
I have encountered the following problem and would appreciate any help:
We recently deployed about 50 pcs to one of our customers. Acrobat Reader X 10.1.3 was preinstalled on the machines, and worked just fine on all clients but one.
On this Machine, Acrobat Reader X freezes upon closing and upon opening certain pdf files. It can then only be closed by terminating the process.
The problem only exists with this user account, it could not be recreated while using an administrative account.
So far, I uninstalled version 10.1.3, and installed 10.1.4 - the problem persisted.
I then removed Acrobat Reader with the Adobe Cleanup Utility and installed 10.1.4 - the problem persisted.
Windows Event Logs only states the standard hungapp event - is there a logfile specifically for the acrobat reader software somewhere ?
The pc is only a few months old, running windows xp with sp3.
Any help would be appreciated, as I could only install an alternative pdf reader software to help for now and I would like to stick to the company's standard software.
    Greetings,
    Mike

    Hi Mike,
Can you please let me know the following details:
    1. Does Adobe Reader crash if you just open the application (without opening any PDF) and just closing the same.
    2. How exactly did you install Adobe Reader 10.1.4? Was it using the installer directly from the Adobe RDC site?
    3. Can you please try and delete the entire folder C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 10.0\Reader\plug_ins and then perform a repair from within the Control Panel. Does this solve things.
    Thanks
    Ankit

  • Customization Wizard X - Uninstall Acrobat (Reader) X?

The Adobe Customization Wizard X has the option when generating msts for 'Removing Previous Versions of Acrobat' and 'Removing previous versions of Reader'.  Is there any way of having it remove version 10 installations as well?
For example, when generating the mst for Acrobat X, I would like the installation to remove Acrobat Reader X, if it were to exist on the machine, and vice versa.
I know I can likely accomplish this by other means (I am installing via GPO, and could set the software to uninstall when a machine falls out of scope), but in our instance, I think this option would be a much cleaner solution.

Reader installer with MST does not interfere with the Acrobat installations (any previous versions). Whereas, Acrobat installer with MST may interfere with the both Acrobat and Reader installations (any previous versions)
i.e. If we have both Acrobat and Reader installed on the machine, and we are creating Latest Reader's MST vias Cust Wizard. It can not uninstall any previous versions of Acrobat. The installer for (Latest version's) Full Reader has ability to remove any previous versions of Reader. i.e. We do not need to specifically go and check the "Remove Previous versions of Reader"
However, if we have Acrobat and Reader installed on the machine, and we are creating Latest Acrobat version's MST vias Cust Wizard. It can uninstall any previous versions of both Acrobat and Reader.
So, the Reader option is ruled out and we are left with only Acrobat installation. Can the Acrobat X MST's remove the Reader X (same version) installations ? The answer is "No" it can not remove the same version (i.e. Reader X) but can remove any previous versions of Reader.
    Hope, it helps.

  • Acrobat reader error 1500 still, no source

I am continually prompted to update acrobat reader from 9.3.1 to 9.3.2... I try and it fails: error 1500.
I try to manually load patch, it fails... says cannot find installation source.
I try to remove Acrobat Reader and fail... says cannot find installation source.
I try to WIndows Installer Cleanup... nothing happens.
We try calling for technical support... they say there is none because it's a free program--use the forum.
The original thread on error 1500 never provided any solution for me... and now it's locked.

  • 100% CPU Utilization by svchost.exe evidently due to Acrobat reader & Adobe players

I have been working on a PC that was rendered inoperable because svchost.exe pegged the CPU @ 100%. After working on it for a couple of hours, I reformatted the HD & restored the OS. In the process of re-installing programs, when I got to the Adobe products (Flash, Shockwave, Air & Acrobat reader) again svchost.exe was pegging the CPU @ 100%. So I removed the 4 above mentioned & restored the PC to just before the installation, and the PC was back to normal. Next I re-installed Acrobat reader, and svchost.exe pegged the processor again at 100%. After removing Acrobat reader & going back to the restore point, everything was normal again. The next time I tried just the Flash & Shockwave players, and pegged again. Would draw the same conclusion as me that there is a problem with the Adobe downloads? I have another PC on my bench that seems to have the same problem. If there is anyone from Adobe that would like to address this issue please contact me. [email protected]

This is a user-to-user forum, and it is very unlikely that someone "from Adobe" will contact you. It is not recommended that you post your email address in a public forum, as it will only attract spambots.
The fact that svchost is using high CPU resources (without any of the Adobe products actually running) indicates to me that you have something in your startup items that triggers svchost usage. Examine your startup list and eliminate anything that could doing that.

  • Acrobat X Pro install package does not remove Adobe Reader X

I am using the Adobe Customization Wizard X to deploy our Acrobat X Pro install. In the transform I have both options checked to removed previous versions of Acrobat and Reader.
The only version of Reader that does not get removed is Reader X. Has anyone else run into this? I've had version 8 and 9 get removed, but any system that has Reader X, keeps it, and Acrobat X Pro get's installed as well.
I understand Adobe will support that configuration, but I'd prefer to have just one PDF reader
    Any input is appreciated

Same problem in our environment. It seems, that Reader X is not understood as an old or minor version as it was in previous versions and therefore, both, Acrobat X and Reader X can coexist on a machine.

  • How do I remove a navigation pane in acrobat reader XI

How do I remove at all a navigation pane on the left  in acrobat reader XI? It is really very annoying remove it hundred times using the right mouse button.

Every time I open a new pdf file, there a navigation bar appears on the left (see screen). I do not need it and it really bothers when I working by place two parallel windows on the screen. For sure it can be removed by clicking the right mouse button. But it must be done every time, and it tires.
How can I make this navigation bar does not appear, I do not know. I looked on the internet, but found nothing. Probably, in principle, developers could leave the pane on the machine on default, but to make an easy way to remove it and save the settings for the future opening new files.

  • Customization of Acrobat Reader X - Remove Comment | Share

    Hello,
Im searching for a possibility to customize Acrobat Reader 10.
I need to remove the functions "Comment" and "Share" which are located on the right side of the tool bar.
Are their any registy keys I can use for this? The only possibility I currently see is using AppSense Environment Manager but we also use server farms which are not managed via AppSense.
    Kind regards

    Okay, I found the answer:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\10.0\Workflows]
    "bEnableAcrobatHS"=dword:00000000
