Removing Adobe Reader

I am using a PC with XP sp3.
I don't seem to be able to remove Adobe Reader 10.0.1 from my hard drive. When I try to use"MS's add/remove programs" to remove Reader, the msg I get is "feature is on a resource that is unavailable".  When I go to the actual file under Programs and try to put the Adobe file folder into the trash, the msg I get is "Cannot delete Identity-H".  (I can't find that file as a separate file in MS search.) What do I do?
I want to start over with a reinstall of v10.1.0 because I keep getting an "updating Adobe Reader" message every few days, and I sense that this too often.  Can my unremovable version of Adobe Reader have been compromised with a key logger or some virus that is sending out some of my data, rather than actually updating my installed version, as often as every few days?

Your Reader installation may be corrupted; use the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility (http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459) to remove the corrupted installation.

    Hi 8ublessed,
I will agree with Test Screen Name, there is very less information to figure out the root cause of the issue you are facing. If you want to remove Adobe Reader, please use the cleaner tool - http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html

This means that something in your registry is pointing to a drive that doesn't exist; see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/327763

  • Acrobat X Pro install package does not remove Adobe Reader X

I am using the Adobe Customization Wizard X to deploy our Acrobat X Pro install. In the transform I have both options checked to removed previous versions of Acrobat and Reader.
The only version of Reader that does not get removed is Reader X. Has anyone else run into this? I've had version 8 and 9 get removed, but any system that has Reader X, keeps it, and Acrobat X Pro get's installed as well.
I understand Adobe will support that configuration, but I'd prefer to have just one PDF reader
    Any input is appreciated

Same problem in our environment. It seems, that Reader X is not understood as an old or minor version as it was in previous versions and therefore, both, Acrobat X and Reader X can coexist on a machine.

  • Cannot remove adobe reader x10.1.7?

I am trying to find the reason why my computer requires re-booting every A.M. When I do a security scan everything appears O.K. except for one item which is quarantined. After searching the add and remove in my control panel I suspect the two items adobe reader and an update which cannot be removed. X10.1.7.  Am I on the right track?

My experience has taught me that there is NOTHING that can be put on a hard drive that CANNOT be removed.
Malwarebytes makes a little app caled "FileAssassin" that runs independent of your antivirus and will remove ANYTHING you select, permissions or not, read only or not, whatever it is, if you hit it with FileAssassin, it's GONE.
Before you go that route, however....
Download and run the Adobe Cleaner to remove ALL instances of Reader
    If that fails:

  • How do i completely remove adobe reader

I tried Adobe reader for a while but prefer Preview so I deleted Reader. There is nolonger any reference to it in Applications.
In Safari I frequently get a message to say that Adobe reader blocked access to this site (happens to many sites).
I override this to gain access.
I’ve looked under Safari’s preferences/security/extensions and there is no mention of Adobe reader. But under Security/internet plug-ins “manage web site settings” Adobe reader 11.0.04 is listed with some sites listed as allowed (presumably when I have overridden the message to say the that adobe reader had blocked access).
I find it annoying that this remain but can’t find a way to remove it entirely.
Can anyone suggest a solution which will see it gone?

    that helps a lot.
    I have an additional question:
    OSX Lion, safari 6.1
I use preview, which is always preselected
and adobe reader 9 for secure ebooks from the library
a few days ago I installed Adobe reader 11 next to the still open v9, because there presumably should be sth like print poster which splits posters into DIN A4 patterns.
Since then in safari I get this message too,
    - Adobe reader blocked access to this site (happens to many sites) -
    1 - if I delete both files
    AdobePDFViewer.plugin
    AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin
will I still be able to oben adobe reader, for a single stand alone file? (thou it ist anoying that adobe sends an update every 3 months.)
2 - is there a way to tell safari to use the preview plugin? (funny if not)
    thanks a lot
    PS
sorry, think this was a silly questions,
the plugins are in the folder Internet, so that should not change anything for stand alone files
but maybe question 2 is possible
