Removing ALL remnants of previous mouse drivers

How do I do this? I checked in the obvious locations "Library/Preferences" and deleted any files associated with whatever brand of mouse I was using, along with uninstallation of the software originally installed. My question is: Is there any other directories/folders that will have files associated with mice I'd need to delete? I ask because the apple mouse is behaving a bit screwy. It's either really SLOW, or REALLY fast. The cursor should be moving at the same speed all the time, not suddenly accelerate the way it's doing now. Any advice? I had been using a Logitech mouse with the Control Center software, after uninstallation I was using USB overdrive. That's also been uninstalled now.

Why don't you just use Spotlight and search for any files with similar names??

  • Second-hand MacBook - How to completely remove all traces of previous owner (inc. Apple ID) & start as clean as possible, while retaining factory software?

    Hey guys,
New to the forum and after a bit of advice.
Have just picked up my first MacBook from a friend and am wanting to start as clean/close to factory as possible, removing all traces of their Apple ID and Account info.
Have read a few posts and it seems that my MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2010) came pre-installed with Snow Leopard (10.6.3/10.6.4).
In Linc Davis post here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5350317
he says that "If the machine shipped with OS X 10.6, you need the gray installation discs that came with it. If you don't have the discs, order replacements from Apple."
My friend is adamant that he received no software with the purchase from new. Everything came pre-loaded.
So I've downloaded OS X Mavericks and created a bootable USB installer. If I do a clean install using this method, will that remove all traces of the previous owner (Apple ID and account info), allowing me to start as clean as possible while still giving me access to the original pre-loaded software that came with the MacBook from new? Once installed, can I then just add my own Apple ID and perform any updates to this software as normal?
Since I don't think it shipped with OS X 10.7 or later, I will be unable to boot into Internet Recovery to try and restore if necessary, before upgrading to Mavericks.
Thanks for any help. Hopefully it's not as complicated as it sounds!

    Yes and Yes
OK, so I'd still have access to iPhoto etc., even though all purchases would still be linked with friends Apple ID?
I don't quite understand how this works..
If I do a clean install, and my new Apple ID has no history behind it, how does it know what software was paid for/pre-installed if that account is no longer tied to this computer?

  • How to remove all remnants of Mountain Lion from an early 09 Mac Mini?

I have a 1 TB hard drive that was formaly in a late model 2012 Mac Mini that the Geinus's thought was faulty. So they R & R'd the drive, but I thought otherwise. I R & R'd the drive in a early 2009 Mac Mini and all was well until I decided to removed Litle Snitch 3.0 Using Back in Time 2. Well everything went south real quick! I've since tried my best reinstalling Snow leopard. For some reason either Mountain Lion remains somewhere in the computer. I've formatted many times, no good. Everytime the computer boots if I should hold down the option key I get Mountain Lion featutes! I can't get into target mode, I can't boot applejack, I can't boot off of DISKWARRIOR! I don't know what to do! Suggestions Please.

First, that cannot be an iBook G4 as that machine cannot run Snow Leopard let alone Mountain Lion.  To run Snow Leopard it has to be an Intel processor, not a G4.  What does it show as the Model Identifier in About This Mac, More Info, System Report, Hardware, Model Identifier?
Second, if you have erased the hard drive there should not be remnants of any prior content.  Even though Disk Warrior is saying nothing is wrong with the hard drive, it sounds as though there are problems.  You may want to consider simply replacing the hard drive so there are no questions about faults.  A good source is OWC, http://www.macsales.com where they also have on-line videos showing how to do the replacement.
Third, you could also try again to restart using the Snow Leopard DVD/CD and use Disk Utility on that install disk to erase again, and do it a couple times, then try to install.  If it continues to refuse, then it sounds as though there is a fault with the hard drive.

  • How to remove all traces of previous owner's name on my ibook?

I am the new owner of a used iBook. Instead of loading the original, outdated, 10.3.9 install DVD which came with the computer, I bought 10.4 and did a clean install (may have been just an upgrade?) Though I changed the Admin ID password from that of the previous owner's, and have no problem doing all admin tasks and using the computer fully and without hassles, I still cannot:
    1. get rid of the previous owner's name ("This computer is owned by xxx" appears on the finder's "home" windows)
    2. get rid of the previous owner's home folder
Do I have to first do a clean install with the original 10.3.9 disk before I can have a clean version of 10.4 free of the previous owner's name anywhere on my computer? Or is there a short cut, given that it seems ridiculous to erase 10.4, and step back in time, just to change the owner's name?
    Any help is appreciated!

While Kappy's advice is spot on, I would consider an erase and install. The iBook would probably be fine if you do what Kappy said. However any computer can suffer from a few corrupt files here and there, even if it is meticulously maintained. If your 'book's previous owner didn't bother to erase his/her home folder, I'd be willing to bet they didn't follow a regular schedule (or any schedule) of making sure the iBook was in top shape. It's overkill I admit, but if I bought a used Mac, I'd erase the HD and reinstall everything. Actually, if I sold my Mac, I'd erase everything and do a clean install before passing it on to a new owner. It could save you from doing the erase and install in a month once you've got everything setup just the way you want and a re-install would be more of a hassle.
But you'd probably be fine with what Kappy said. Just my 2 cents...

  • K9A Plat: Updating ATI Drivers...to remove all or not to remove all...

okay, im a little confused over this whole ATI updating deal.  My problem is that my VGA cards are ATI and ATI just came out with 8.6.  Now, as far as chipset, that does not seem to have updated, which leads me to my question.
As per ATI instructions (http://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&questionID=20870 , when updating my existing ATI graphics package, I am supposed to uninstall all existing ATI software before running the installer package.  Does this mean I have to remove all ATI shtuff (wont that remove my chipset package)...or is there a way to uninstall just the VGA card portion?  please assist as I am a little confused and dont want to melt my machine.
Basically, what im asking is how do I remove the ATI VGA package so I can update it without messing up my ATI chipset installation?

Quote from: BOSSKILLER on 25-June-08, 09:48:56
Why do you want to update them? For your old VGA "VGA:  Sapphire Radeon x1950 Pro" probably will bring you nothing more
Kinda like updating the OS...and I am already going to be calling MSI about my board (RAID issues) and one of the first things they always ask, even if it has nothing to do with the problem, is "Have you updated all your drivers?"  This is from experience and telling them no on any of them basically gets you where you where before you made the call.
Update software!!!  It's to help w/bugs in other parts of the app that existed in previous versions.  Not to say that I am experiencing any of these, however, if ATI says that 8.6 is the latest for my particular VGA setup then should I not trust that I should follow ATI's advice and update to the latest version.  If MSI had an update to the chipset package (that was more of a global) they would still put it out and reccomend you update.
Thats why I am going to update the VGA package.  And what if it was an update that would 'bring me more' from my VGA.  How do I follow ATI's instructions or does this mean I simply remove all ATI with their tool and re-install both VGA and chipset?
Additionally, I will check the driversweeper package, but I was looking for more of an explanation of how to follow ATI's instructions for updating VGA without screwing my chipset.
I am sure, however, that driversweeper will prove to be a great tool in my arsenal!!!  thnx BOSSKILLER!!!

  • I Beta tested 4.0 RC1 and now can not upgrade to 4.0. Error message is need to reboot to complete prior instalation. Have removed all previous versions of Firefox, rebooted and still same error message.

I Beta tested up to and including 4.0 RC1 without major problems. However I can not now upgrade to 4.0. Same error message time and again, "need to reboot to complete prior upgrade instalation". I rebooted several times, then tried first removing all previous versions of Firefox using both MS Add/Remove and then iolo System Mechanic, then again downloading 4.0. Even after rebooting same error message. I can not therefore install/use Firefox.

    Do a clean (re-)install:
    * Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 4.0: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
    * Don't remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere (not in the Firefox program folder) and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • Removed Facebook App - Lost all of my previously synced emails

    Hi All,
Not sure if im posting in the right section but if not please let me know.
Got a Curve 8900 in the uk on orange and was having a few problems with the calendar (when you added a new appointment it showed as a facebook calendar appointment no matter which book you used), so i removed the facebook app to see if that was causing the problem.
Once i had restarted all of my previously synced emails have gone including all of my saved messages, is ther any way i can get this information back? Any ideas why this has happened?
    Thanks

    ok, so do this:
On your BlackBerry device, go to:
    1. Options > Advanced > Host Routing Table > Menu > Register.
    2. Resend your service books from your carrier BIS site:
    From your handheld device:   http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB15402
Go to the Personal Email Set Up icon and log in. Then under Help!, select Service Books, then select Send service Books.
    From your desktop PC:  http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB02830
North American Carriers - scroll down to select your carrier
WorldWide Carriers - Find your carrier on the list
    3. With the BlackBerry device powered ON, remove the battery a few seconds and then reinsert the battery to reboot. This reboot, even if you have already done this, is often needed to install the service books.

  • Regarding removing all previous versions of the Mocrosoft Server Speech Platform Runtime

While I was trying to install Kinect SDK Ver. 1.8, I was asked to remove all previous versions of the Mocrosoft Server Speech Platform Runtime.
Regarding this, I tried to find the program but I couldn't.
I am working on Windows Vista.
Any comments and solutions would be appreciated.
    Thanks,

However I would like to share some information for you.
Based on my research on Kinect SDK Ver. 1.8, the supported OS as below:
Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows Embedded Standard 7
Maybe this is the root reason that why cannot install Kinect SDK Ver. 1.8 on Vista.

The Apple ID and Password that was Originally used to Activate the iDevice is required.
If you cannot get this information from the seller

You need to return the Device for a refund, as you will not be able to re-activate it.

  • Need to know how to remove ALL previous Outlook settings in Registry and file locations (cross posted)

Problem: I cannot get a newly installed Outlook 2013 to connect to the [online Office 365] server with old [non-domain] logon profile. That is my issue, and what I'd like to fix. (There's some services and settings on the old profile
that cannot be easily duplicated. Also, I'm just enough annoyed by this to ask for suggestions.)
Background: I upgraded an existing Office 2007 install of several years back to Office 2013 on an continuously used [non-domain] user profile (I needed connections to several Exchange accounts at various domains I remotely admin
and was tired of logging on through OWA, so it was time to upgrade). Up to Sunday last, I have never had issues with Outlook and Office 365 connections to that account; upgrading Office 2013 "killed" my outlook.office365.com connection to emails.
Testing: I created a new [non-domain] logon profile, and Outlook 2013 connects to my outlook.office365.com account just fine with the new logon profile. To repeat:
there were NO connectivity issues in connecting to my Office 365 account in the
new [test] logon profile with Outlook 2013, and using Outlook 2013 on the new [non-domain] profile.
The problem is profile specific, to an older existing profile (I'd like to use).
Just FYI: my [vanity] domain tests just fine with the Exchange 365 online tools. Office 365 works. OWA works. Outlook 2013 works (in the new logon profile). Mobile devices work.
There are no major problems with the domain name in MXToolbox, or Microsoft Remote Connectivity Tester. Both Windows and Office are fully patched on my workstation. There's no malware.
The problem is something in my older logon profile. Something somewhere locally to that logon and/or Outlook-specific profile is keeping it from logging into the [Office 365] mail server. I just get the typical "cannot connect to
    the server" error.
What's Needed: So what I need is a link to a webpage (or pages) that details ALL [existing] Outlook/Exchange settings that are profile specific ...so I can
manually remove them from the Registry, from the drive, etc.
...something on the order of "...remove all profiles under
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem" and "...delete all files in
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook" (neither of which fixed the issue, whatever the real issue may be ...but that's all I found so far that seemed pertinent). Anyways, "stuff"
    like that.
Alternatively, if someone knows what Registry keys, other settings, etc., I can export/import from the test logon profile to my "real" logon profile(s), that would be worth a shot, and greatly appreciated.
Or maybe just some google search suggestions that might find the above links (listing error message contents hasn't been useful: too many hits).
Me: I'm a sys admin with over 30 years experience. I'm not looking for suggestions on how to set up an Exchange account, or an Office 365 account, or to setup a new mail profile or logon profile (or to remove either of those), or to add
a new email account (manually or with auto-discover), or to remove an old account. None of that applies and/or has worked in this case.
Thanks in advance for your interest. I really need a knowledgeable wizard, since I'm looking for a solution to a complex issue. My own googling and troubleshooting has just turned up the usual noob' stuff. At this point, I'm at a loss. The well is dry.
    Update:
This question is cross-posted from the general "answers" forum (at the suggestion of a moderator).
    Update: I also came across
this page of "advanced" Outlook settings (and it hasn't helped so far, either).

I too, for over 30 days have been trying to find an answer as my situation is as similar as it gets.  I too have tried all and everything as you have.
How I wish there would have been an answer to your question.  It would have answered mine as well.
Seems typical to microsoft "help" unless it is the usual noob response and/or "more clarification" (I with no tech degree understood exactly what you refer to) the only response is well, just no response......

I had typed out an detailed explanation in response to your question, and when I went to upload it there was an error message,
This is what happened when the phone was syncing. It only allowed the "option" to restore after that.  Just like my original message to you, all of it disappeared when trying it resolve and discover what was the error. I had not clicked on either helpful or correct answer and when I explored what they were I got the same result.  I am  person that uses my apple products in limited ways as I need them. It is this type of frustrating result that keeps my use limited.

  • HELP! Is there any way to remove the remnant of an old Word file  from OS 9.2.2?

I know this sounds bizarre, but I've spent the last 6 hours trying to remove a non-existant file from the iBook I bought in 2002. I have already tried Microsoft Support, but am stuck because I can't remember the details of the info I used the one and only time I created an account with them in order to ask a single question several year ago, and am unable to provide them with a new email address that's acceptable to them for a single-time  contact.
Besides, since the problem is on a Mac iBook, I'm hoping  I'll have more success in this community.
Although I bought the iBook 12 years ago, I did so on a whim, and never really used it for the purpose I envisioned, which included working on a couple of projects while I was away from home. In anticipation of those projects I loaded copies of the software I typically used onto the iBook . . . including Office 2001, which I apparently used to create several personal documents, which I saved on the same device.
Three or four years later, when my desktop Power Mac G4 was showing signs of trouble, I saved the most important documents  to the iBook for safekeeping . . . and a few years later, did the same when the tray on the optical drive failed and I decided it was more cost-effective to replace than repair it.
Since then, the iBook has been in clear sight of my desk, but buried under piles of papers, until I rediscovered it last week . . . and since it's still in perfect condition, decided to look for a buyer. So far the few documents I created on the iBook plus the several hundred I had stored there have all been removed — except for the remnants of the half dozen files I created in Word.
I thought I was rid of them, but since they still show up in a list of documents when I open Word, my guess is there  must  be a "graveyard" somewhere on my iBook where the bones of dead files reside for eternity (or until the iBook itself is trashed).
There is no sign of them (or anything else) in the trash can  . . . and when I click on their names, an error message informs me that it can't find the files, but I'm welcome to search for them myself.
I'm hoping someone in this forum can tell me where to look. . . . Since I'm pretty sure that even though all the other files have been deleted,  there must be a directory of some  sort still holding all or part of those  documents, as well, I'm also wondering if there is some way to perform a clean sweep of all the created files, without removing the core software and third party apps — before I send the iBook onto a new owner.
The active  operating system on the iBook is 9.2.2 — although I think it also came with an early version of OS 10 pre-loaded.
The Word software came with Office 2001, but I think it is version 5.1.
If there's a solution, I hope it's relatively easy, because the thought of  writing scripts  scares me.

Not sure what's happening with this thread, but in the last 15 minutes, Safari closed down twice — for reasons  apparently indirectly related to our discussion, but also  to a couple of sentences borrowed from  a Word document I had just written and was attempting to paste into this response
To pick up from yesterday . . . Thanks again for your suggestions. After lunch, I did follow the first one, but unfortunately, it didn't work. But since I've always hated conceding to defeat without a decent fight (especially when it comes to a Mac)  — I spent the next 5-6 hours trying to understand why I couldn't open those  documents!!  I never did find the answer, but think I at least found a work-around.
Just to clarify, when I looked at the list at the bottom of the File menu again, I realized there were nine of them (not just the 5-6 I had mentioned. From their titles, I also realized I had just seen them recently, while combing thru and culling  the several hundred  files I had saved to desktop Macs during those previously  mentioned crises . . . And since  the iBook couldn't find them on its drive . . . . thinking the docs might be missing critical information, I started by transferring  them back on a thumb drive.
Like magic, I suddenly could read them, but still was unable to delete from from the iBook . . . until thru a series of quirky and convoluted maneuvers, I managed to  delete all the content from each document and save them with their original names . . . copied the empty documents from my thumb drive to my iBook . . . re-opened them to confirm that they could now see the original (but now empty files)  . . .  saved and renamed them Document 1-9  in that order.. . . put copies of each into a new folder for safekeeping on both  the iMaBool desktop and  thumb drive . . . trashed the folder on the iBook desktop (knowing I still had backups on the thumb drive)  . . .and Eureka! Documents  1-9 are still on the File Menu, but when opened, they all are now blank.
As for re-installing  the original operating system, while I agree it's a good idea, it's been years since I last did a clean install, and can't remember  if OS 9.2 allowed selective reinstalls. So rather than run the risk of removing  ALL the third party software currently on the iBook, since my plan all along was to give the next owner all 5 MS Office disks (original install, 3 reinstall disks and separate hardware diagnostic disk), I think I'll leave that option to him/her.
Can't say it was fun, but ultimately the time spent  probably was worthwhile, if only  because it provided a valuable learning opportunity.
Thanks again for your suggestions and  attention. (How could I give up after you took the time to offer them?)

  • Removing Delegations from a previous DC

One of my client's environments have been having DNS issues, where users occasionally could not resolve certain network objects. The PDC is running Server 2008 R2, and serves the AD, DNS, DHCP, File services, and (for some horrible reason) Exchange.
I ran dcdiag /test:dns to try to get a better look at what was going on with the service. Here are the errors it presented, where xx.yyy is the client's domain:
    TEST: Delegations (Del)
Error: DNS server: dh-server.xx.yyy IP: <Unavailable>
    [Missing glue A record]
    TEST: Dynamic update (Dyn)
Warning: Failed to delete the test record dc-diag-test-record in zone xx.yyy
What troubles me, is dh-server is the previous PDC that was removed 3-4 years ago, before I took over the client. How can I remove this delegation from my DNS, for a DC that physically no longer exists?
The record for dh-server.xx.yyy still exists in AD, but not in Sites and Services, nor can I find any record of it in our DNS or DHCP.
Thank you all for sharing your wisdom!

    Hi,
Use DNS mmc and look for records belonging to that old server especially in the nameservers tab, then remove any remnants entries. Also look in the primary zone (xx.yyy) and see if you have any delegation(s) or any other records, where you might use that
obsolete server as entry and remove it.
    Hope this helps.
    Regards,
    Calin
