Removing an Oracle Home

What is the best way to remove an Oracle Home?
After removing all the products in a Home, I want to remove this Oracle Home. I can do it by editing the Windows Registry, but I don't think it's safe.

It would have been safer to use the Oracle Home Selector ( software ) developped by Oracle that allows to remove or properly delete the Home.
It however worths to use it even if all your files have manually been deleted.

  • Remove an oracle home entry from the central repository

Does anyone know how to remove an oracle home entry from the central repository (inventory.xml file), after the oracle home in question has been deleted. It is left behind and I want to clean it up.
    thanks

I went to the link you have posted and it did not help me.
I cannot get rid of my Oracle Home directory. When I attempt to delete this folder, I
    get an error message:
oci.dll ...is write protected or in use..
So I deleted this oci.dll file. Then I rebooted and tried to delete the OraHome directory (folder)
again, and I get the SAME error!!
    Thanks for any advice.

  • Remove / Reuse Oracle Home

An installation of Oracle 10gR2 failed in silent mode. So, I ran the deinstallation script and now want to rerun the installation but I'm getting the error: "Oracle Home with name already exists at location...Please specify another location for Oracle Home." The directory where we want to install the software is empty. What is it that we are missing in order to install the software in the directory? How do we remove the Oracle_home that was not successfully used in the failed installation?
The server is a solaris server. I know how to accomplish this on a Windows platform server.
    Thanks.

There are no eroneous entries in the oratab file. At this point we are just looking to install the 10gr2 software. Here is the error that we are receiving:
SEVERE:OUI-10136:An Oracle Home with name OraDbHome2 already exists at location /u01/oracle/product/10.2.0. Please specify another location for Oracle Home.
All we are looking to do is remove any references to the directory where we want to install the software and re-run the installation.

  • Installing & Uninstalling Oracle Home

We have installed multiple Oracle Versions in same machine like below.
    Ora9i_db_Hom
    - Oracle 9i Database 9.2.0.2.0
    - Oracle Universal Installer 10.1.0.2.0
    - Oracle 9iR2 Patch Set 9.2.0.5
    - Oracle 9iR2 Patch Set 9.2.0.8
    OraDb11g_home1
    - Oracle Database 11g 11.2.0.1.0
    Ora_9205_Home
    - Oracle 9i Database 9.2.0.2.0
    - Oracle Universal Installer 10.1.0.2.0
    - Oracle 9iR2 Patch Set 9.2.0.5
    - Oracle 9iR2 Patch Set 9.2.0.8
    OraDB10g_Home1
    - Oracle Database 10g 10.2.0.1.0
    - Oracle Database 10g Release 2 Patch Set 3 10.2.0.4.0
The reason for this installation was to upgrade 9i & 10g Database to 11g. We upgraded all the database to 11g and its running on 11g now. Now I would like to remove the old versions (9i & 10g).
    My Question is,
    1. If I Remove 9i Oracle Home using OUI, will it effect any of the database that is running on the machine?
    2. For some reason if I want to install 9i again after uninstalling, will that be a problem?

Well, the obvious answer about databases being affected has to include any 9i database if the 9i home/software is removed. Other than that, no, assuming none of the other databases have any dependencies related to 9i (e.g., database links).
If you think you may have to reinstall 9i, don't remove it in the first place. If you can afford the disk space to keep it, what is the harm in keeping it on the system? You really don't want the brain damage of messing around with older versions of OUI.

  • Remove Oracle home 2 only

OS: SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 8
    Oracle DB: 10.1.0.2.0
    Hello All,
I have two oracle home on single box.
    For my Database
    /opt/oracle/product/10.1.0/db_1For HTML_DB
/opt/oracle/product/10.1.0/ccdI'd like to remove ccd home.
can any one tell me the secure command to remove all objects under ccd only?
I have deinstall ccd home product from HTML_DB cd but still >/opt/oracle/product/10.1.0/ccd and its child objects are exits.
Please note: I do not want to remove any thing from >/opt/oracle/product/10.1.0/db_1.
    Regards,
    D

1st Off use the Oracle runInstaller to remove the software and the home for the home you want to get rid of.
Then (as it doesn't actually remove all teh directories and files) do an rm -rf /opt/oracle/product/10.1.0/ccd
also you may need to check things like the following files (usually in /etc or /usr/local/bin) oratab oraenv emtab for references to the instance you have deleted - also beware any .profile or .bash_profile entries which may have now redundant Paths etc in them.

  • CRS install fails Oracle home incompatibility checks  ( 10G )

    Hi,
I'm trying to install RAC for 10.2.0 . The first step is to install cluster Ready Services ( On red hat linux ) . When it does the product specific prequisite checks, it fails on "Checking for Oracle home incompatibilities".
I get the error " Oracle clusterware cannot be installed into an existing oracle home".
I did a previous attempt at an install which failed. I have completely deleted the
/oracle/product/10.2.0/crs directory which was previously created.
If I check the environment variables, I get :
    [oracle@rac1 db_1]$ env | grep -i home
    HOME=/oracle
    ORACLE_HOME=/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1
So, in my thinking there is no trace now of a previous home for CRS.
So why am I getting the error ??
    Thanks
    George

It seems taht you have not cleared the inventory..As menioned earlier use OUI to remove the oracle_home from inventory. In case you do not wish to use the existing ORACLE_HOME=/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1 or any other Oracle Installation on this server, then you can go ahead and remove the inventory itself.
You can use Note:239998.1 for the various files to be removed for cleaning up CRS..

  • Two oracle home in System

Previously I have used oracle 9i Client. After that I have installed Oracle 10 g client. Now In my machinne , have two oracle homes(Oracle 9i and 10g ).I want delete the Oracle 9i home from my machine.
    Help me.
    Thanks,

Technically it's safe to remove 9i ORACLE_HOME without affecting 10g.
However sometime you might have some application compiled with old 9i installation and depend on it.
Make a backup of 9i home before remove it just in case.

I would like to remove the 8.0.6 Oracle Home from the central inventory after completing an R12 upgrade. Using the 10.1.3 OUI, I am able to remove the 9iAS Oracle Home from the inventory, but the 8.0.6 Oracle Home does not have a checkbox that allows OUI to deinstall. I thought there was some 8.0.6 process that would do the inventory deregistration.

I found 8.0.6 $ORACLE_HOME/orainst. Using orainst, I could remove all software except the reports server, that throws the following error:

  • Separate 2 databases from one oracle home

    Here's the situation:
"prod and test databases are sharing the same oracle home"
I want to create separate oracle home for these databases, any suggestions on how to proceed will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi C,
Oracle Home means that it can have multiple Domains inside it and under each Domains you can have one Admin server and n-number of managed servers. For better understating her is the directory structure
    Oracle Home
    |
    Domain-1= Admin Server , Manage Server-1, MS-2 ....... MS-n
    Domain-2= Admin Server , Manage Server-1, MS-2 ....... MS-n
    Domain-n = Admin Server , Manage Server-1, MS-2 ....... MS-n
Now you can deploy the your App-1 and App-2 under any Domain on different Managed servers or you can even deploy each application under different domains but to answerer your question
Ans-1 Yes, it possible to have multiple instance configured from one oracle home.
Ans-2 Yes, after you configured one instance, you can re-run again and add/remove components
    Hope above information helped you

  • How to clone 11gr2 grid and oracle homes

    Hi,
By mistake I have installed the software and the database under the same disk /u01. I should had installed the software under /u02 and the database + grid infrastructure for standalone server + Oracle restart under /u01.
My database is 11gR2 on Linux Redhat server.
I have installed Grid Infrastructure for standalone server and the database in /u01.
How can I clean clone all these components from /u01 to /u02? I mean the components are:
    - Grid Infrastructure for standalone server under grid user.
    - Oracle Restart under grid user.
    - Oracle software and Oracle database.

    Hi, all:
Is it possible to remove OC4J_Demos and/or home components?
I have encountered the big problem that the repository is not in

If I try to resync with the repository the I got the following

    hello,
SQLPLUS is looking for the OH, if not null, to find home path for Oracle DB10G, and the oc4j wants OH give it the path for <oc4j_home>, but if you modify lightly the oc4j.cmd which is under <oc4j_home>\bin you can specify the value for J2EE_HOME instead of use OH\j2ee\home, but you can't delete the OH value because of the script is looking for its existence even if you have specify the path for JH, so the latest things to do is to set OH to the value looking for by SQLPLUS (which is for me <oracle_install>\ora92 ), now SQLPLUS use the OH (it don't really need it but you can't delete it) and the oc4j run without problem because of it find it path and don't send alert while OH is not null.
It's not really the good solution but it's really esay to do and you don't have to modify your installation
