Removing attachments not always succeeds

Question

Most of the times, when I've selected a message which contains attachments and then click Remove Attachments things go well: Mail informs me that the attachments have been removed by showing something like:
[The attachment someattachedfilename has been manually removed]
Some times, though, after it's supposed to have done it, Mail still shows the attached file in the message, say, a jpg image. The email message size has dropped in the message list, but the image still shows in the message viewer, as if nothing has been removed. Thinking that this might be some cache-related issue, I restarted Mail, and then the previously attached (but now removed) file shows up in the message viewer in the form of a blue cube icon of sorts.
What gives?
I've got Mail 3.2 (919/919.2).

Alex,
I do not experience this when removing attachments. The fact that you do likely points to problems with your index of messages (called the Envelope Index). You should rebuild your Inbox, or if this is happening in more than one mailbox, see the following about forcing reindexing:
