Removing back cover no captive screws?

Several months ago my toddler stuck something in my imac g5 with isight's slot drive.
Today, I had problems starting the computer as it remains on the grey loading screen and never goes to the log-in page.
I recently read up on how to remove the back cover. There are no captive screws on the bottom panel of mine. There are 5 screws that come out and then when I go to lift the back cover the whole LCD screen with components removes from it's plastic housing. The cover is not opening up?
Can someone please help me? Please? I feel like I'm going crazy!

I'm afraid that unless your can get your iMac into Target Disk Mode you will have to rely on the tech to remove your drive and copy it. Actually, if they are working on the optical drive and the logic board, there;s no reason why you should lose your data, but to be on the safe side, ask the techs to copy your drive to another one.

  • MSi 2260 All-in-one: Removing the back cover

Does anyone know how to remove the back cover of the All-in-one? I've removed the stand, all the screws round the edges, and the plastic cover at the top, all to no avail. I don't want to force anything. The machine is out of warranty, and it's getting slow and noisy so I thought whilst I rebuilt it I might replace the main H/D with a solid state drive. Not a very good start then when I can't even remove the back!
    thanks
    qb

I just recently replaced the hard drive in mine.  You do not have to remove the stand.  Lay it screen down on a towel.  Remove 8 screws (1 under the warranty sticker).
The tricky part is removing the front of the DVD tray without breaking it, but it is possible.  Straighten out a paper clip and push it in the little hole in the DVD tray--the door will open--then use a small knife to release the hooks that hold the DVD tray cover to the DVD tray.  Careful, don't break it!

  • How do I remove the cover to access the back of my 5c and insert the sim

How do I remove the cover of my 5c in order to access the back of the phone to insert the sim?

You DON'T remove the cover to access and insert the sim card in the the phone.
The sim card tray on an iPhone is either at the top of the phone or on the side of the phone - just look at the top and then use the sim card tool that came with your phone and this will open the sim card tray.  You have no need to take the back off your phone whatsoever and has already been pointed out, if you do so, you warranty is voided, as the casing of iPhones are NOT designed to be removed.

  • Removing the back cover

    Hi all,
Well, we have the ever-popular, iMac G5 that won't power up issue. No sound, no video, the light turns on. The one-year warranty expired on 2/17/07 and it's not in the first generation iMacs covered by Apple's extended repair for this issue.
We are interested in diagnosing in more detail but are having a hecka time getting the back cover off. Funny how the user's manual simply states: raise the foot and lift the back cover off. Sure.
Anyway, anyone have some back cover removal tips or tricks? We've got some old credit cards we can ruin but aren't having much luck with those either.
    Thanks.

    Instructions for opening case:
    1. Place handset in left hand (screen down)
    2. Place left thumb just under groove that comes from camera
    3. Place right thumb at the bottom of case so that the top of the thumb can press the button but bottom of thumb will push very bottom of case down.
    4. with both thumbs working together push down and up with right thumb and up with left thumb.
Case SHOULD click open, if the button has moved up inside the back case the plastic springs have bent or broken and the unit needs to go into a CNSP.

Hi, I just tried doing what you suggest but am not quite sure what groove you mean in respect of the groove that comes from the camera. From the side this phone looks like it is three layers and I am not sure which bit/s are supposed to slide anyway now. My button is now half pushed underneath the back of the 'back' but is still sort of moving up and down if pressed on, but I just cannot budge the back or what I think is the back in any way whatsoever. My thumb is short and I cannot push the button down and push the back with the same thumb! Unfortunately taking the phone to a shop is not an option and I need the phone for business for Monday. I am scared of breaking it by using force. Someone has mentioned a knack and a way of getting it off but has not said how apart from yourself.Message Edited by binarycape on 03-Mar-2007

  • Nokia 2730 back cover impossible to remove

I just bought this phone and have spent 20+mins trying to open the back cover. I did push down and slide downwards towards the bottom of the phone but it just won't move. Youtube videos show this being done seamlessly. What's wrong with my phone?

    Hi,
According to your description, seems the dutch language has already been set to the primary language, but the layout remains incorrect. I suggest you manually set the input method via
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Language\Advanced settings
Under "Override for default input method", choose the keyboard layout you'd like to be your default keyboard, and then tap or click
    Save. check the result.
Regarding to removing the English language,
You will not be able to remove your primary display language, set a different language as your primary display language first instead. (though you mentioned that you've set dutch as primary language, I type this here to make a
    confirmation)
Removing a language from your list does not uninstall its language pack. So you should uninstall it first before removing the language from your list.

  • How can I remove the back cover for my ipod?

I need to remove the cover because my ipod seems to be suffering from a hardrive problem. It used to just cycle through all the songs in a playlist or randomly play 5 seconds and skip to the next song, but now it just makes a whirring noise when I try to turn it on and cannot get past the apple logo.
Sometimes I get the little unhappy ipod logo and the support website but thats it.
Iv tried going into diagnostic mode and attempting to run a few tests. It failed a USB test in this mode so i think that may be one of the problems with it.
Does anyone know of a fool proof way of removing the case so I can dis/reconnect the harddrive?
      Windows XP

Before you remove the back cover of your iPod - which will loss the warranty
    Read the following
he Sad iPods icon or folder with an exclamation mark are the toughest problems to deal with, and must do a Restore in order to fix it. However, when your iPod is showing this icon, it is probably too late for your computer to recognize the iPod.
    1. Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) and it would conquer most iPod issues.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
    2. Try to put the iPod into Disk Mode if it fails to appear on the desktop
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
    Still can't see your iPod?
Several things could keep iPod from appearing in iTunes or in the Desktop/Finder when you connect it to your PC/Mac. The most likely causes are listed below in logical order. Check from the top of the list to see if that is what's keeping iPod from appearing.
    3. Try to wait 30 minutes while iPod is charging.
    4. Try another known-good FireWire or USB through Dock Connector cable.
    5. Try another known-good FireWire or USB port on your computer .
    6. Try to disconnect all devices from your computer's FireWire and USB ports.
    7. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. We've found that in many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
    8. Try to do an Erase (Disk Utility) on a Mac computer or a format with a PC (Disk Management tool) but ensure you choose the right Drive (your iPod not your Hard Disk of your computer). You may need to plug and unplug your iPod with the computer for several attempts, and switching around Format and Restore, and hope out of sudden, it will get recognized.
    9. Diagnostic mode solution – which I copied from a thread of a post from thinktwice
“Then I cam across this special Diganostics Mode that you can get to by resetting and then while the Apple is showing pressing the Select and backwards keys simultaneously. It bring up and weird Diagnostic utility witha a abunch of tests. Here is what I did
    - I tried the 5in1 test and got and error on Firewire.
    - I did the HDD R/W and surprisingly it passed.
    - I went on to the HDD scan. This supposedly tkaes acouple of minute so I waited. I think 4-5 dots appeared then nothing. The iPod started to get hot. THe disk was spinning away. After a while the battery got very low. THis test chews up the battery. So I escaped out by resetting and went to connect it to a power source.
My USB was dangling out of my computer and I was too lazy to get the Firewire AC adapter thing going so I connected expecting the whole lockup thing with iTunes. Surprise. IT was recognized immediately and has been working like a champ. So go figure.
Details on Diag mode can be found at http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/index.shtml
10.Let me ask you a question, if an iPod with no iPod software with it. When your connect it with a computer, what would happen?
Yeah, the computer will treat it as a fresh external hard disk, which will get force mounted, the computer will ask you to format the iPod. It does not really matter the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted iPod software on the iPod, after that the computer will recognize it.
Once it has been completed, eject your iPod, open the iPod updater and interestingly, you will able to do the Restore this time.
Base on the above, that's why I suggest Windows users who experience trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac machine or vice versa. PC computer will not recognize a Mac formatted iPod, but it will get mounted in an attempt to format your iPod.
But, if none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired. You can arrange for service at the iPod Service Website.
I have just read an interesting solution about the Sad iPod, it does make sense but the warranty will be waived once you open the iPod, I would not do it myself as I am not good on doing this

I want to know how to remove the back cover of my HP Product name: HP Pavilion Sleekbook 15 to install new memory?  All the HP website shows is how to remove memory covers.  Unfortunately, with newer models like mine, the whole back cover needs to be removed.  I have tried unsuccessfully to remove it but so far all that I have succeeded in doing is to scratch my cover.  So can anyone help???

    Hi,
The procedure is detailed starting on Page 67 of your Maintenance & Service Guide.
Note:  I don't work for HP, but looking at the degree of disassembly required, I would say the procedure may well void the conditions of warranty.

  • A2109 - What is the best way to remove the cover that hides the MicroSD card

    Hello.
I have tried to remove the cover that hides the MicroSD card with little success.  So that I don't destroy it, what is the best way you have found to remove it.  Thanks.

    hi ourtech,
From the back, remove the two screws at the left and right side. For the bezel, try to use the plastic prying tool in this order:
    1. From volume key to the left (I/O ports)
    2. From volume key to power key
    3. From the side without screws to I/O
    4. From power key downwards
Also, be careful when removing the plastic near the volume button to avoid breaking the bezel.
    Hope this helps.

  • How do I get the back cover off?

Hey guys I just bough a new GE70 2PE Apache Pro (Ge70 2PE-010US to be precise) and I want to add an SSD to it. How do I get the back cover off so I can open it up?

    Quote from: TheSarge;102473
I figured it out. What was stumping me is that there's a screw under the god dam "Warranty Sticker."
By the way, I am not happy that MSI made the retarded decision to replace the Windows Context Menu keyboard key with a second "\" key and move it next to the space bar. There's already a "\" key on the keyboard, MSI; Why the hell would I want two of them? Any idea how to rectify this idiocy?
I've never really use this Windows Context Menu key.. so this never bothers me.
but think you can ask why they have this design, I don't really notice it until you bring it up.
I remember they have a online system.

  • Are there any problems using a back cover.

I want to protect the back of my iPad from scratches. Are there any problems using a skin or cover on the back?

Is it  ok to cover the back of iPad 2? Won't it affect the cooling system? Coz I don't see any ventilation point and it may be the back metal plate itself which brings out the heat. I purchased a "Targus" back cover from apple store and it fits perfectly and beautifully also very comfortable to handle but I removed it thinking that it might harm., also Apple hasn't introduced any sort of back cover either, only the smart cover for the screen they have, may be coz the back is designed to be open to the air.

  • Z1 COMPACT REPLACEMENT BACK COVER.

Sony Mobile! I bought my xperia z1 compact and it easily scratches itself. I want to replace the back cover because it acquired so many scratches in just a week of placing it in my pocket! The front i removed the asf! I called the service center here in Manila to inquire about the back cover replacement and it is 2500 pesos!!!! And they will add a 750 pesos labor!! This is not good! This is not how you provide support for replacement parts if i am within warranty! I think 2500 pesos replacement for the back cover is expensive and an additional 750 for the labor is robbery! We need a discount if we are within warranty! Call me 63998 971 8019! Btw we are mislead that it is scratch resistant! It is not!!!

    I'm sorry to hear that.
I suggest that you raise this with your local support team to get further information about the warranty and how to proceed with this in the best possible way:
