Removing Background From Picture Problem

I'm not an expert with Photoshop and am having a problem removing the background from the picture below. The Selected area doesn't stay within the circular cream colored area but always goes outside and fills up the whole square except for the middle hole area. How can I remove the background?

It sounds like you are trying to use something like Quick Select and maybe Refine edge.  The problem is that you don't have enough contrast for the work well.  You can temporarily increase contrast with a Levels adjustment layer using setting like below
Having made the selection, go back to the original layer to apply the selection.
But that is still not the best way to select with your image.  The Pen tool would make a better job, but there is a learning curve in using that.  You could just use the elliptical Marquee tool for the center hole.  Remember you don't need to do the entire selection in one go.
lastly, you'd have made life easier if you took the photograph with the flange hanging from fishing line against a bright white BG.  That's what we call the 'Shoot it Again filter'
Good luck.  It soon gets easier

  • Removing background from picture

Hi I m automodeliste and I need create my own decals .My question is how can I remove the background from the picture of the real car staying only whith the text that I want.
    I'm using the photoshop cs6.
    Thanks

If I am understanding your question correctly you can just use the quick selection tool in the tool bar on the left side of the screen towards the top. Zoom into the image if you have to, then simply click on the image until it is highlighted by a doted line to the desired amount of image you want. Then you can do whatever you want with it. Or for a little more advanced user you can use the pen tool by point and click. Going around the image and just connecting the dots as you go. With the image completely selected by making it aroung to where you started you can then do whatever else you want. With a little practice you can even use the pen tool to make custom curves and make font follow those curves this is a very cool feature I use a lot doing vinyl decals myself. Hope this was helpful.

  • I'm trying to remove the background from pictures and PDFs.

Hello All, this is the 3rd or 20th time I've tried removing backgrounds. I install water equipment for a living and try to manage my website on my own. Each time my products change, my suppliers send me literature in PDF format. Sometimes I'm installing the equipment before I have the literature. I take pictures of every install I perform and would love to use my pictures without the dirty basement in the background.
I've spent hours trying to work with just one picture. All that fine detail, erasing, and zooming in and out, then click! I lose it, or can't save it, or it just doesn't work. I've watched tutorials, and watched it done right in front of me (on a PC) at my print shop. I thought I'd ask this community, because I've had 100% luck on here everytime.
So, can I use the same software to remove images from PDFs and backgrounds from pictures? Which do you recommend? I have Adobe Photoshop CS2 and Adobe ImageReady CS2. I also have Gimp that I downloaded for Mac. Since I've never been successful with any of them, I'm not sure which one is wasting my time.
    Thank You,
    Steve

Extracting images and removing backgrounds can be very complicated. There are many different techniques and methods for doing it: the trick is finding the right one for the image you're working on. Every image is different and what may work for one may not work for another. You can do all of the basic techniques in Photoshop CS2, though it's a little easier in newer versions. I'd recommend going through as many online tutorials on image extraction as you can tolerate. There are hundreds of them. (While I find him annoying to listen to, Russell Brown has made some excellent tutorials on the subject. Try this one to start.
While it is possible to edit an image embedded in a PDF, you really need Acrobat Pro  to do it. Acrobat sends the image to Photoshop, where it can be edited, and then Photoshop sends it back to Acrobat after you're done. Or you can save it as a separate file. In the 20+ years I've used Adobe's stuff, I've never done that. It's usually much easier to do a screen capture of the image and then work on that copy. (There are some sizing and magnification issues involved with this, however.)
In Photoshop, pay particular attention to Quick Mask mode, learn how masking works, how to make a selection based on a color range, how to use the Pen Tool to make a path that can be used as a selection, and how to save and load selections. Getting a clean extraction takes a lot of practice and it's almost never quick or easy, but it's worth the effort to learn how to do it well.

  • Remove background from Smart Build images

    Hi,
I've just started creating my first project with Keynote, and so far it's terrific. The question I have is, is it possible to use the alpha tool, or something similar to remove backgrounds from images that I'm using for a smart builds effect.
    Thanks,
    Dave

    Welcome to the discussions, Decaffeinated1.
The problem you're seeing is specifically with how Keynote copies images. Neither Pages nor Numbers has this problem. The problem and the solution is described here.
    http://www.keynoteuser.com/news/?p=256
Basically, your choice is to copy through Pages or Numbers (or iWeb) OR to copy another object which will force Keynote to adhere to the transparency set with Instant Alpha.

  • Removing background from text?

Hi All. I am a very new user to Flash and know my question is
probably extremely basic but I can't figure out what I'm doing
    wrong.
I am trying to place fading text on top of an image and when
I create the animation, it places it on a white (specified)
background. The animation I have created is on its own layer. So my
question would be, how do I remove the background from my text? I
would like a transparent background so my text fades in right on
    top of my image.
Right now, the initial image with falling snow starts and
about 25 frames in, it turns to white and the text fades in...how
do i get rid of the white so the text fades in and you are still
able to see the image and the falling snow?
I am very very new to Flash (3 days in) and although this is
a ridiculously easy task to perform in photoshop, I cannot grasp
how to do it in flash cs4. Thank you, in advance, for any help I
may receive. I'm trying hard to learn this medium...

Select the textfield on the stage and see if the icon remains
unselectable... if so, what version of Flash are you using (I'm
    just curious if it's CS4)?
Another way to remove the textfield background/border is thru
actionscript. The textfield must have an instance name to be able
to do this. Let's say you name it tFeld. In a timeline layer for
actions, select the first frame of the actions layer where the
textfield appears on the timeline below it (I only assume it's on a
layer below somewhere) anmd type the following in the actionscript
    editor window:
    tField.background = false;
    tField.border = false;
If none of the above works, then I have a feeling I'm
misinterpretting the scenario. I'm assuming the textfield includes
its own background at that there isn't some other background
involved that you area talking about.

  • Removing background from plastic wrap

    Hi all,
I need to remove the background from this image while keeping the straw and plastic wrap. Have looked all over for a tutorial, but no luck. Any help on how to do this would be much appreciated!
    Thanks in advance,

I guess it depends on your goal.
If you just want to change the background you might get away with just using the multiply blending mode.
If you want a seperate transparent file you could try something like this:
    1.duplicate the layer
    2. select all
    3. edit>copy
    4. add a layer mask (press the layer mask icon at the bottom of the layers panel)
    5. alt click on the layer mask
    6. edit>paste
    7. image>adjustments>invert
    8. apply the layer mask (right click on the layer mask and press apply layer mask)
    9.Select>Deselect
    10. Layer>matting>remove white matte
You might add a drop shadow to bring out the plastic more.

  • Removing background from video(2)

I want to remove the background from video easily and live,
using green screen like they do in most forecasts at tv news.
(where they display the forecast map...)
    Is it possible?

FCP isn't a live switcher...it is a Non Linear Editing machine. You must first capture the footage, key it, then output.

  • Removing background from line drawing

I'm desperate to find out how I can removing the background from a line drawing, leaving only the lines.

Couple of additional tricks that can help in cleaning the image before using the magic wand. Open Levels and set a white point on the background using the white point eye dropper. This can clean up some stray marks. You can also use Threshold (filter>adjustments>threshold)to better separate the lines from the background.

  • How to remove shadows from pictures

    Hello,
I`m new to this forum and also i have no knowledge about photoshop.
My question is how can I remove shadows from the pictures ?
    Thanks in advantage

There are a number of ways to manipulate images to lessen the effects of shadows, ranging from doing something like Image - Adjust - Shadows/Highlights to selecting specific parts and doing spot editing.
Can you please be more specific about what it is you want to do?  Maybe post a small sample image here (using the little camera icon just above where you type) showing the shadows you'd like to remove.

  • One-to-many relationship - remove item from collection problem

The ArrayCollection keeps folders tree - subtree of folder is kept in children property and is also ArrayCollection. This collection is fed by 'folders' custom assembler defined like this:
Assembler works with adding and deleting top level objects of collection.
Also, when I add new object to children property LCDS issues createItem for new object and then updateItem for children property of parent so everything is fine - new object is persisted and relationship is correct.
When I remove item from children collection ONLY updateItem on assembler is issued, so object is not deleted from repository. Why this managed reletionship works for adding new object to children collection but doesnt work for deleting?

  • How to remove background from image?

    Hello folks.
I am trying to incorporate some business logos into a brochure I am creating. The problem is, most of these logos have a white background. How can I remove this and make a transparent background?
    Thanks!

Blend modes are your friend. always keep in mind that Multiply, screen and overlay affect the white, black and gray depending which one you choose.
Attached is a blend mode example from photoshop using a black to white gradient.  The normal layer fills the document with.the blend layers on top with the gradient inverted.
This example is text naming the solid color backgrounds blended over a gradient.

  • How does one remove dates from pictures?

    Thanks in advance!!

I accidentally set my camera to show the date on each picture. When I uploaded the pictures to my computer, I am unable to remove the dates from each picture. Is there a way to do this without having to use a "blemish" tool?
You can not - you had the camera include the date as a part of the image so the only way to remove it is to retouch it out with a photo editing program - it is no different than removing a power line or a person from the photo - it is part of the image

  • Removing Audio From Video (Problem 2) !!!HELP!!!

I have succesfully managed to remove audio and add new audio to an (avi) video. However, when I tried to do the same thing with an new (mpeg) video/ soundtrack. Logic did not allow me to extract audio from video or give me the option to de-select audio tracks when bouncing. So when I extract video with audio I get the old audio track plus the new audio combined. Is it do with the video format? can I convert video formats in logic? many thanks, Ben.

open in quicktime, then click save as and save as a .mov file. This should work. Not sure why this is happening though. Let me know if this works...
Please remember the helpful and solved problem....
